Purpose:To describe the development of a Compendium for estimating the energy costs of activities in adults>60 years(OA Compendium).methods:Physical activities(PAs)and their metabolic equivalent of task(mET)values were obtained from a systematic search of studies published in 4 sport and exercise databases(Pubmed,Embase,SPORTDiscus(EBSCOhost),and Scopus)and a review of articles included in the 2011 Adult Compendium that measured PA in older adults.mET values were computed as the oxygen cost(VO_(2),mL/kg/min)during PA divided by 2.7 m L/kg/min(mET_(60+))to account for the lower resting metabolic rate in older adults.Results:We identified 68 articles and extracted energy expenditure data on 427 PAs.From these,we derived 99 unique Specific Activity codes with corresponding mET_(60+)values for older adults.We developed a website to present the OA Compendium mET_(60+)values:https://pacompendium.com.Conclusion:The OA Compendium uses data collected from adults>60 years for more accurate estimation of the energy cost of PAs in older adults.It is an accessible resource that will allow researchers,educators,and practitioners to find mET_(60+)values for older adults for use in PA research and practice.

This prospective multicenter phase II study evaluated the clinical efficacy of neoadjuvant nivolumab-exclusive(N)and nivolumab–chemotherapy(N/C)combinations based on PD-L1 expression.Eligible patients exhibited resectable clinical stage IIA–IIIB(AJCC 8th edition)NSCLC without EGFR/ALK alterations.Patients received either mono-nivolumab(N)or nivolumab+nabpaclitaxel+carboplatin(N/C)for three cycles based on PD-L1 expression.The primary endpoint was the major pathological response(mPR).Key secondary endpoints included the pathologic complete response(pCR),objective response rate(ORR),and event-free survival(EFS).Baseline PD-L1 expression and perioperative circulating tumor DNA(ctDNA)status were correlated with pCR and EFS.Fifty-two patients were enrolled,with 46 undergoing surgeries.The mPR was 50.0%(26/52),with 25.0%(13/52)achieving pCR,and 16.7%and 66.7%for patients with PD-L1≥50%in N and N/C groups,respectively.Thirteen(25.0%)patients experienced grade 3 or higher immune-related adverse events during neoadjuvant treatment.Patients with post-neoadjuvant ctDNA negativity was more likely to have pCR(39.1%)compared with those remained positive(6.7%,odds ratio=6.14,95%CI 0.84-Inf,p=0.077).With a median follow-up of 25.1 months,the 18-month EFS rate was 64.8%(95%CI 51.9–81.0%).For patients with ctDNA–vs.ctDNA+,the 18m-EFS rate was 93.8%vs 47.3%(HR,0.15;95%CI 0.04,0.94;p=0.005).Immunochemotherapy may serve as an optimal neoadjuvant treatment even for patients with PD-L1 expression≥50%.ctDNA negativity following neoadjuvant treatment and surgery could help identify superior pathological and survival benefits,which requires further confirmation in a prospective clinical trial(NCT04015778).

metallic nanoglasses are made of amorphous grains that are separated by lower-density amorphous boundaries,which have been proposed to enhance plasticity through the deflection of cracks and shear bands at interfaces.It has been difficult to experimentally control grain size and interfacial structure to understand their roles in plastic deformation.Here,we fabricate bulk nanoglasses via compaction and sintering of colloidally synthesized amorphous iron-boride nanoparticles.These nanoglasses have amor-phous grains with diameters from 116 nm to 576 nm and were tested using nanoindentation and mi-cropillar compressions.The nanoglass with a grain size of 576 nm shows the highest elastic modulus and hardness of 101 GPa and 7.4 GPa,respectively.Transmission electron microscopy reveals that nanocrys-tals form within the nanoglasses during compaction.Higher nanocrystal density correlates with higher nanoparticle crystallization enthalpy,an increase in plasticity,and a decrease in yield strength.Plastic strain of 5.0%,yield strength of 3.8 GPa,and ultimate compressive strength of 2.7-3.8 GPa were achieved.We show that the compaction of colloidal metallic glass nanoparticles results in robust bulk samples,with mechanical properties similar to that of other iron-based bulk metallic glasses.

Background： Cellular non-coding RNAs are extensively modified post-transcriptionally, with more than 100 chemically distinct nucleotides identified to date. In the past five years, new sequencing based methods have revealed widespread decoration of eukaryotic messenger RNA with diverse RNA modifications whose functions in mRNA metabolism are only beginning to be known. Results： Since most of the identified mRNA modifying enzymes are present in the nucleus, these modifications have the potential to function in nuclear pre-mRNA processing including alternative splicing. Here we review recent progress towards illuminating the role of pre-mRNA modifications in splicing and highlight key areas for future investigation in this rapidly growing field. Conclusions： Future studies to identify which modifications are added to nascent pre-mRNA and to interrogate the direct effects of individual modifications are likely to reveal new mechanisms by which nuclear pre-mRNA processing is regulated.

AIm: To assess the patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) patients. mETHODS: Fifty-one consecutive patients (21 male, 30 female, 61.0 ± 10.3 years) with proven PNETs were studied. An SF-12 questionnaire capable of exploring the physical (PCS) and mental (mCS) aspects of daily life was used. Four questionnaires were also used [12 items General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12) for non-psychotic psychiatric disorders, State Trait AnxietyInventory (STAI) Y-1 and Y-2 for anxiety and BDI-for depressive symptoms] to explore the psychological aspects of the disease. Forty-four sex-and age-matched Italian normative subjects were included and evaluated using the SF-12, STAI Y-1 and Y-2 questionnaires.RESULTS: Seven patients refused to participate to the study; they were clinically similar to the 44 participants who agreed to complete the questionnaires. PNET patients had a PCS score (44.7 ± 11.0) were not signifi cantly different from the norms (46.1 ± 9.9, P = 0.610), whereas the mCS score was signifi cantly lower in patients (42.4 ± 13.0) as compared to the norms (48.2 ± 9.8, P = 0.036). GHQ-12 identified 11 patients (25.0%) as having non-psychotic psychiatric disorders.The STAI scores were similar in the patients and inthe normative population. Finally, BDI-identifiedeight patients (18.2%) with moderate depression and 9 (20.5%) with mild depression whereas 27 patients (61.4%) had no depression.CONCLUSION: The PNET patients had a good physical but an impaired mental component of their quality of life; in addition, mild or moderate depressive symptoms are present in about 40% of PNET patients.

Radiotherapy for locally advanced pancreatic cancer is technically difficult and frequently associated with high-grade digestive toxicity.Helical tomotherapy(HT)is a new irradiation modality that combines megavoltage computed tomography imaging for patient positioning with intensity-modulated fan-beam radiotherapy.Its recent availability opens new fields of exploration for pancreatic radiotherapy as a result of its ability to tailor very well-defined dose distributions around the target volumes.Here,we report the use of HT in two patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer. Doses to the bowel,kidneys and liver were reduced significantly,which allowed for excellent treatment tolerance without any high-grade adverse effects in either patient.

Equine-assisted interventions for veterans with servicerelated health conditions: a systematic mapping review

Background:Evidence-based treatments for service-related health conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD),depression,and traumatic brain injury(TBI)are not effective for all veterans.Equine-assisted interventions are emerging as an additional treatment modality,but little is known regarding the safe and effective delivery of these interventions.This study aimed to describe the following features of the body of literature concerning equineassisted interventions among veterans:1)veterans who have participated in equine-assisted interventions;2)specific characteristics of equine-assisted interventions in veterans;and 3)the specific characteristics of research on equineassisted interventions in veterans.methods:We conducted a systematic mapping review of peer-reviewed literature reporting on equine-assisted interventions among veterans between 1980 and 2017.Searches of nine databases yielded 3336 unique records,six of which met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed.Data relevant to the study aims were extracted and analyzed.Results:Equine-assisted interventions among veterans disproportionately targeted psychosocial outcomes and yielded promising results.The detailed methods of EAI varied in the reported studies,ranging from communicating with the horse to mounted exercises.There was also great diversity in outcome measurement.The state of theoretical development regarding the mechanisms by which equine-assisted interventions benefit the veteran population is currently underdeveloped.Studies provided insufficient detail with respect to the description of the intervention,reasons for attrition,and the dose-response relationship.Conclusions:Scientific development of equine-assisted interventions targeting psychosocial outcomes among veterans is warranted to establish their efficacy.Targeted outcomes should be expanded,including outcomes more closely aligned with the nature of polytraumatic injuries.Future research must also emphasize the theoretical development of equine-assisted interventions for veter

A novel method for haplotype phasing in families after joint estimation of recombination fraction and linkage disequilibrium is developed. Results from monte Carlo computer simulations show that the newly developed E.m. algorithm is accurate if true recombination fraction is 0 even for single families of relatively small sizes. Estimates of recombination fraction and linkage disequilibrium were 0.00 （SD 0.00） and 0.19 （SD 0.03） for simulated recombination fraction and linkage disequilibrium of 0.00 and 0.20, respectively. A genome fragmentation phasing strategy was developed and used for phasing haplotypes in a sire and 36 progeny using the 50 k Illumina BeadChip by： a） estimation of the recombination fraction and LD in consecutive SNPs using family information, b） linkage analyses between fragments, c） phasing of haplotypes in parents and progeny and in following generations. Homozygous SNPs in progeny allowed determination of paternal fragment inheritance, and deduction of SNP sequence information of haplotypes from dams. The strategy also allowed detection of genotyping errors. A total of 613 recombination events were detected after linkage analysis was carried out between fragments. Hot and cold spots were identified at the individual （sire level）. SNPs for which the sire and calf were heterozygotes became informative （over 90%） after the phasing of haplotypes. Average of regions of identity between half-sibs when comparing its maternal inherited haplotypes （with at least 20 SNP） in common was 0.11 with a maximum of 0.29 and a minimum of 0.05. A monte-Carlo simulation of BTA1 with the same linkage disequilibrium structure and genetic linkage as the cattle family yielded a 99.98 and 99.94% of correct phases for informative SNPs in sire and calves, respectively.

BACKGROUND Femoroacetabular impingement(FAI)is a predisposing factor for secondary osteoarthritis of the hip joint.The two extensively described impingement mechanisms of FAI are CAm and Pincer-type.Initially managed conservatively,operative intervention should be offered to the persistently symptomatic patient.The measurement of the alpha angle is considered a standard method of assessing the severity of pathology in Cam-type FAI on pre-operative plain radiographs.The radiological correction of the alpha angle has not been previously compared between different surgical approaches.We hypothesize that there is no difference in alpha angle correction between Ganz surgical hip dislocation and the anterior mini-open approach.AIm To compare the magnitude of alpha angle correction achieved by using the Ganz surgical hip dislocation and the anterior mini-open approach.mETHODS This is a retrospective study assessing seventy-nine patients identified in a 5-year period.These patients had preoperative radiographic evidence of FAI and underwent surgery by a single surgeon at our institution,a tertiary care center.Patients with missing radiographic documentation,radiographs with insufficient quality which then precluded accurate measurement of the angleα,a diagnosed congenital condition,isolated type II pathology(Pincer),and history of prior surgery were excluded from the study.Either the Ganz surgical hip dislocation or the anterior mini open approach was used.Postoperative radiographic evaluation of the alpha angle between the two surgical methods was done and corrected for age and gender using two-sample t-tests and Chi-square analyses.RESULTS A total of 79 patients met the inclusion and exclusion criteria.Forty-seven males(mean age of 35.3,range 16-53)and 32 females(mean age 36.7,range 16-60)were enrolled.Forty-seven patients underwent the anterior mini-open approach,and 32 underwent the Ganz surgical hip dislocation.There were no significant differences in age between the two surgical groups or in pre-and post-operative
