Gossypium, as the one of the biggest genera, the most diversity, and the highest economic val.e in fiel. crops, is assuming an increasingl. important rol. in studies on pl.nt taxonomy, pol.pl.idization, phyl.geny, cytogenetics, and genomics. Here we update and provide a brief summary of the emerging picture of species rel.tionships and diversification, and a set of the designations for individual.genomes and chromosomes in Gossypium. This cytogenetic and genomic nomencl.ture wil. facil.tate comparative studies worl.wide, which range from basic taxonomic expl.ration to breeding and germpl.sm introgression.

Previous research suggests that Gossypium has undergone a 5-to 6-fol. mul.ipl.cation fol.owing its divergence from Theobroma. However, the number of events, or where they occurred in the Mal.aceae phyl.geny remains unknown. We anal.zed transcriptomic and genomic data from representatives of eight of the nine Mal.aceae subfamil.es. Phyl.genetic anal.sis of nucl.ar data pl.ced Dombeya(Dombeyoideae) as sister to the rest of Mal.adendrina cl.de, but the pl.stid DNA tree strongl. supported Durio(Hel.cteroideae) in this position. Intraspecific Ks pl.ts indicated that al. sampl.d taxa, except Theobroma(Byttnerioideae), Corchorus(Grewioideae), and Dombeya(Dombeyoideae), have experienced whol. genome mul.ipl.cations(WGMs). Quartet anal.sis suggested WGMs were shared by Mal.oideae-Bombacoideae and Stercul.oideae-Til.oideae, but did not resol.e whether these are shared with each other or Hel.cteroideae(Durio).Gene tree reconcil.ation and Bayesian concordance anal.sis suggested a compl.x history. Al.ernative hypotheses are suggested, each invol.ing two independent autotetrapl.id and one al.opol.pl.id event. They differ in that one entail. an al.opol.pl.id origin for the Durio l.neage,whereas the other invokes an al.opol.pl.id origin for Mal.oideae-Bombacoideae. We highl.ght the need for more genomic information in the Mal.aceae and improved methods to resol.e compl.x evol.tionary histories that may incl.de al.opol.pl.idy, incompl.te l.neage sorting, and variabl. rates of gene and genome evol.tion.

Through expl.ring potential.anal.gies between cotton seed trichomes （or cotton fiber） and arabidopsis shoot trichomes we discovered that CesAs from either the primary or secondary wal. phyl.genetic cl.des can support secondary wal. thickening. CesA genes that typical.y support primary wal. synthesis, AtCesA 1,2,3,5, and 6, underpin expansion and secondary wal. thickening of arabidopsis shoot trichomes. In contrast, apparent orthol.gs of CesA genes that support secondary wal. synthesis in arabidopsis xyl.m, AtCesA4,7, and 8, are up-regul.ted for cotton fiber secondary wal. deposition. These concl.sions arose from：（a） anal.zing the expression of CesA genes in arabidopsis shoot trichomes; （b） observing birefringent secondary wal.s in arabidopsis shoot trichomes with mutations in AtCesA4, 7, or 8; （c） assaying up-regul.ted genes during different stages of cotton fiber devel.pment; and （d） comparing genes that were *** with primary or secondary wal. CesAs in arabidopsis with genes up- regul.ted in arabidopsis trichomes, arabidopsis secondary xyl.m, or cotton fiber during primary or secondary wal. deposition. Cumul.tivel., the data show that：（a） the xyl.m of arabidopsis provides the best model.for secondary wal. cel.ul.se synthesis in cotton fiber; and （b） CesA genes within a ＂cel. wal. tool.ox＂ are used in diverse ways for the construction of particul.r special.zed cel. wal.s.

This paper presents a new method for obtaining network properties from incompl.te data sets. Probl.ms associated with missing data represent wel.-known stumbl.ng bl.cks in Social.Network Anal.sis. The method of “estimating connectivity from spanning tree compl.tions” (ECSTC) is specifical.y designed to address situations where onl. spanning tree(s) of a network are known, such as those obtained through respondent driven sampl.ng (RDS). Using repeated random compl.tions derived from degree information, this method forgoes the usual.step of trying to obtain final.edge or vertex rosters, and instead aims to estimate network-centric properties of vertices probabil.stical.y from the spanning trees themsel.es. In this paper, we discuss the probl.m of missing data and describe the protocol. of our compl.tion method, and final.y the resul.s of an experiment where ECSTC was used to estimate graph dependent vertex properties from spanning trees sampl.d from a graph whose characteristics were known ahead of time. The resul.s show that ECSTC methods hol. more promise for obtaining network-centric properties of individual. from a l.mited set of data than researchers may have previousl. assumed. Such an approach represents a break with past strategies of working with missing data which have mainl. sought means to compl.te the graph, rather than ECSTC’s approach, which is to estimate network properties themsel.es without deciding on the final.edge set.

Al.opol.pl.idy is an important process in pl.nt speciation, yet newl. formed al.opol.pl.id species typical.y suffer from extreme genetic bottl.necks. One escape from this impasse might be homoeol.gous meiotic pairing, during which homoeol.gous exchanges(HEs) generate phenotypical.y variabl. progeny. However,the immediate genome-wide patterns and resul.ing phenotypic diversity generated by HEs remain l.rgel. unknown. Here, we anal.zed the genome composition of 202 phenotyped eupl.id segmental.al.opol.pl.id individual. from the fourth sel.ed generation fol.owing chromosomal.doubl.ng of reciprocal.F1 hybrids of crosses between rice subspecies, using whol.-genome sequencing. We describe rampant occurrence of HEs that, by overcoming incompatibil.ty or conferring superiority of hetero-cytonucl.ar interactions, generate extensive and individual.zed genomic mosaicism across the anal.zed tetrapl.ids. We show that the resul.ing homoeol.g copy number al.eration in tetrapl.ids affects known-function genes and their compl.x genetic interactions, in the process creating extraordinary phenotypic diversity at the popul.tion l.vel.fol.owing a singl. initial.hybridization. Our resul.s il.uminate the immediate genomic l.ndscapes possibl. in a tetrapl.id genomic environment, and underscore HE as an important mechanism that fuel. rapid phenotypic diversification accompanying the initial.stages of al.opol.pl.id evol.tion.

The aim was to characterize thyroid function in Hispanic hypertensive popul.tion. Retrospective study of 1,023 individual. was performed, in which 68.23% had hypertension （74.21% women） and 37.25% had thyroid pathol.gy. Age, weight, bl.od pressure, biochemical.measurements were recorded, mean age： 53.02 ± 14.80 yr, mean weight： 83.05 ±16.95 kg, thyrotropin-stimul.ting hormone （TSH） hypertensive patients： 5.55±1.63 μUI/ml.and without hypertension： 3,72 ± 1.60 μUI/ml. TSH range concentration distributed by sex indicates： 1.50-2.49 μUI/ml.men, 2.50-5.01 μUI/ml.women. TSH categories vs. age were positivel. associated （r = ＋ 0.114, P = 0.044） and hypertension by age was al.o correl.ted （r = ＋ 0.178, P = 0.0001）. Significant positive association we found between TSH and diastol.c bl.od pressure （r = ＋ 0.197, P = 0.008）. Systol.c and diastol.c bl.od pressure vs. age were positivel. increasing （r = ＋ 0.410,p = 0.0001; r = ＋0.285, P = 0.0001, respectivel.）. Preval.nce of thyroid pathol.gy in hypertensive subjects are hyperthyroidism 5.87%; hypothyroidism 20.34% （5.73% subcl.nic） and autoimmune disease 6.25%. High percentage of hypertensive popul.tion has concomitant thyroid diseases, more common in women （50-70 years）. Systematic surveil.ance for occul. thyroid dysfunction in patients with hypertension coul. prevent future cardiovascul.r disease.
