Colonoscopy plays an important role in detecting colorectal neoplasms in patients with gastric neoplasms

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC)and colorectal cancer(CRC)are the fifth and third most common cancer worldwide,respectively.Nowadays,GC is reported to have a potential predictive value for CRC,especially for advanced CRC.AIM To evaluate the necessity of colonoscopy for gastric neoplasm(GN)patients.METHODS Four databases,including PubMed,EMBASE,the Cochrane Library,and Ovid,were used to perform the search strategy on May 2,2023.The prevalence of colorectal neoplasms(CRN)and baseline characteristics were compared between the neoplasm group and the control group.Continuous variables are expressed as the mean difference and standard deviation.Relationships of categorical variables in the two groups are expressed as odds ratios(OR)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs).Subgroup analysis according to different kinds of GNs was conducted for more in-depth analysis.The results of this study are represented by forest plots.Publication bias was evaluated by a funnel plot.All data analyses were performed by STATA SE 16.0 software.RESULTS A total of 3018 patients with GNs and 3905 healthy controls(age and sex matched)were enrolled for analysis.After comparing the prevalence of CRNs between the two groups,CRNs were detected significantly more frequently in GN patients than in controls(OR=1.69,95%CI=1.28 to 2.23,I^(2)=85.12%,P=0.00),especially in patients with GC(OR=1.80,95%CI=1.49 to 2.18,I^(2)=25.55%,P<0.1).Moreover,other risk factors including age(OR=1.08,95%CI=1.00 to 1.17,I^(2)=90.13%,P=0.00)and male sex(OR=2.31,95%CI=1.26 to 4.22,I^(2)=87.35%,P=0.00),were related to the prevalence of CRNs.For patients in the GN group,body mass index(BMI,OR=0.88,95%CI=0.80 to 0.98,I^(2)=0.00%,P=0.92)and smoking(OR=1.03,95%CI=1.01 to 1.05,I^(2)=0.00%,P=0.57)were protective and risk factors for CRNs,respectively.CONCLUSION Patients are recommended to undergo colonoscopy when diagnosed with GNs,especially GC patients with a low BMI and a history of smoking.

Sensing properties and mechanisms of LaF3–Co3O4nanorods for low-concentration methanol detection

Methanol is one of the characteristic gases that distinguish between healthy individuals and lung cancer（LC） lesions in exhaled human breath.Its concentration in exhaled breath is generally below one part per million(1×10-6).The second-phase composite is widely regarded as one of the methods to improve the gas-sensing performance of metal oxide semiconductor （MOS） materials.In this study,LaF3DCo3O4was synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method to enhance its low-concentration methanol gas-sensing performance.5 at%LaF3DCo3O4nanorods exhibited excellent methanol detection performance,including a wider linear detection concentration range (0.2×10-6D5×10-6),a response value exceeding 4.0for 1×10-6methanol at 275°C and 75%relative humidity（RH）,long-term stability （maximum deviation within 15%over 2 weeks）,and excellent selectivity.The mechanism of performance enhancement was studied using various techniques,and density functional theory.The specia spinel structure of Co3O4,the high ionic migration of F-in LaF3,the larger specific surface area of 5 at%LaF3DCo3O4nanorods,and the generated crystal defects all explain the excellent methanol gas-sensing property.This work provides a novel route to prepare MOS composite materials for low-concentration methanol gas detection.

Thermodynamic nature of black holes in coexistence region

Studying the system state of coexistence regions will peek into to reveal microscopic interactions between different phases of a thermodynamic system.However,there is no effective method to study thermodynamic nature of the coexistence black hole regions for the failure of the equation of state.Aiming at these coexistence states,in this work,we develop a general approach by introducing two new ratio parameters.The first one is the ratio of the horizon radii of the saturated coexistence small and large black holes,and the second one measures that of the small black hole molecule number to the total molecule number.We demonstrate that the first parameter can serve as an order parameter to characterize the first-order phase transition.The study also shows that the black hole state in the coexistence region is uniquely determined by these two introduced parameters bounded between 0 and 1.These results are quite significant in the analytical study of phase transition and the microscopic nature of black hole in the coexistence regions.

Causal Association Between Tea Consumption and Gout:A Mendelian Randomization Study

Objective Evidence from prospective studies on the consumption of tea and risk of gout is conflicting and limited.We aimed to investigate the potential causal effects of tea intake on gout using Mendelian randomization(MR).Methods Genome-wide association studies in UK Biobank included 349376 individuals and successfully discovered single-nucleotide polymorphisms linked to consumption of one cup of tea per day.Summary statistics from the Chronic Kidney Disease Genetics consortium included 13179 cases and 750634 controls for gout.Two-sample MR analyses were used to evaluate the relationship between tea consumption and gout risk.The inverse-variance weighted(IVW)method was used for primary analysis,and sensitivity analyses were also conducted to validate the potential causal effect.Results In this study,the genetically predicted increase in tea consumption per cup was associated with a lower risk of gout in the IVW method(OR:0.90;95%CI:0.82–0.98).Similar results were found in weighted median methods(OR:0.88;95%CI:0.78–1.00),while no significant associations were found in MR-Egger(OR:0.89;95%CI:0.71–1.11),weighted mode(OR:0.80;95%CI:0.65–0.99),and simple mode(OR:1.01;95%CI:0.75–1.36).In addition,no evidence of pleiotropy was detected by MR-Egger regression(P=0.95)or MR-PRESSO analysis(P=0.07).Conclusion This study provides evidence for the daily consumption of an extra cup of tea to reduce the risk of gout.

Ultra-high-rate Bi anode encapsulated in 3D lignin-derived carbon framework for sodium-ion hybrid capacitors

Bismuth(Bi),as an alloy-based anode material,has attracted much atte ntion in the developme nt of sodiumion hybrid capacitors(SIHCs)due to its high theoretical capacity.However,the volume expansion of the Bi-based anode during the sodiation/desodiation process results in limited rate capability.In the present work,a porous Bi-based composite was constructed by a one-step hydrothermal method,and Bi was encapsulated in ligninderived nitrogen-doped porous carbon(Bi@LNPC)after carbonization.The obtained Bi nanoparticles could effectively adapt to the strain and shorten the diffusion distance of Na^(+).In addition,porous carbon skeleton provides a rigid conductive network for electronic transportation.Therefore,the assembled sodium-ion half-cell with Bi@LNPC anode shows ultra-high-rate capability.When the current density was enhanced from 0.1 to 50 A·g^(-1),the specific capacity decreased slightly from 351.5 to 342.8 mAh·g^(-1).Even at an extremely high current density of 200 A·g^(-1),it retains 81.3%capacity retention when compared to a current density of 1 A·g^(-1).The SIHCs assembled by Bi@LNPC show a high energy density of 63 Wh·kg^(-1).This work provides an effective method for developing high-rate Bi anode materials for sodium-ion hybrid capacitors(SIHCs)and sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).

In the determination of the Earth gravity field in satellite geodesy, the inclination functions represent the projection of data observed along the orbital plane of a satellite orbit into the sphere in the terrestial reference frame. The inclination functions in this work is studied from a group theoretical perspective. The inclination functions are proved to generate a representation of the SO(3) group. An orthogonal relation of the inclination functions is derived and some recurrence relations for the inclination functions are given, based on which an algorithm to calculate the inclination functions is proposed.

The modulation of metal-support interfacial interaction is significant but challenging in the design of high-efficiency and high-stability supported catalysts.Here,we report a synthetic strategy to upgrade Cu-CeO_(2)interfacial interaction by the pyrolysis of mixed metal-organic framework(MOF)structure.The obtained highly dispersed Cu/CeO_(2)-MOF catalyst via this strategy was used to catalyze water-gas shift reaction(WGSR),which exhibited high activity of 40.5μmolCOgcat^(-1).s^(-1)at 300℃and high stability of about 120 h.Based on comprehensive studies of electronic structure,pyrolysis strategy has significant effect on enhancing metal-support interaction and then stabilizing interfacial Cu^(+)species under reaction conditions.Abundant Cu^(+)species and generated oxygen vacancies over Cu/CeO_(2)-MOF catalyst played a key role in CO molecule activation and H2O molecule dissociation,respectively.Both collaborated closely and then promoted WGSR catalytic performance in comparison with traditio nal supported catalysts.This study shall offer a robust approach to harvest highly dispersed catalysts with finely-tuned metal-support interactions for stabilizing the most interfacial active metal species in diverse heterogeneous catalytic reactions.

Observation of gapless corner modes of photonic crystal slabs in synthetic translation dimensions

Second-order topological photonic crystals support localized corner modes that deviate from the conventional bulk-edge correspondence.However,the frequency shift of corner modes spanning the photonic band gap has not been experimentally reported.Here,we observe the gapless corner modes of photonic crystal slabs within a parameter space by considering translation as an additional synthetic dimension.These corner modes,protected by topological pumping in synthetic translation dimensions,are found to exist independently of the specific corner configuration.The gapless corner modes are experimentally imaged via the near-field scanning measurement and validated numerically by full-wave simulations.We propose a topological rainbow with gradient translation,demonstrating the ability to extract and separate specific frequency components of light into different spatial locations.Our work contributes to the advancement of topological photonics and provides valuable insights into the exploration of gapless corner modes in synthetic dimensions.

Ultrathin surface coating of Cu enabling long-life Zn metal anodes

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries （AZIBs） are regarded as promising energy storage devices due to their low cost,high capacity,and ecological safety.Nevertheless,the severe dendritic growth and side reactions hinder their practical applicability significantly.Herein,an ultrathin Cu coating layer （～200 nm） is decorated on zinc foils via filtered cathodic vacuum arc deposition technology,aiming to achieve high-performance AZIBs.The Cu layer effectively suppresses chemical corrosion and hydrogen evolution reactions and enables preferential （002） Zn deposition during the stripping/plating cycles.Consequently,the Cu@Zn anode represents an elongated cycle life over 4,000 h at 2 mA·cm-2/2 mAh·cm-2.Even in conditions of high current density of 5 and 10 mA·cm-2,the Cu@Zn anode shows prolonged cycling stability exceeding 4000 and 2000 h,respectively.Such advantages also bring high Coulombic efficiency of 99.87% under 5 mAh·cm-2in Cu@Ti||Zn half-cell over 1500 cycles.Moreover,the Cu@Zn||MnO2full cell demonstrates a superior cyclability with a specific capacity of 203 mAh·g-1after 500 cycles a1 A·g-1.

Identification and functional analysis of CG3526 in spermatogenesis of Drosophila melanogaster

Spermatogenesis is a critical part of reproduction in insects;however,its molecular mechanism is still largely unknown.In this study,we identified a testis-specific gene CG3526 in Drosophila melanogaster.Bioinformatics analysis showed that CG3526 contains a zinc binding domain and 2 C2H2 type zinc fingers,and it is clustered to the vertebrate really interesting new gene(RING)family E3 ubiquitin-protein ligases.When CG3526 was knocked down by RNA interference(RNAi),the testis became much smaller in size,and the apical tip exhibited a sharp and thin end instead of the blunt and round shape in the control testis.More importantly,compared to the control flies,only a few mature sperm were present in the seminal vesicle of C587-Gal4>CG3526 RNAi flies.Immunofluorescence staining of the testis from CG3526 RNAi flies showed that the homeostasis of testis stem cell niche was disrupted,cell distribution in the apical tip was scattered,and the process of spermatogenesis was not completed.Furthermore,we found that the phenotype of CG3526 RNAi flies’testis was similar to that of testis of Stat92E RNAi flies,the expression level of CG3526 was significantly downregulated in the Stat92EF06346 mutant flies,and the promoter activity of CG3526 was upregulated by STAT92E.Taken together,our results indicated that CG3526 is a downstream effector gene in the JAK-STAT signaling pathway that plays a key role in the spermatogenesis of Drosophila.
