Effects of host identity on the gut microbiota:A comparative study on three microtinae species

Background:Gut microbiota exert an immense effect on host health and host environmental adaptation.Furthermore,the composition and structure of gut microbiota are determined by the environment and host genetic factors.However,the relative contribution of the environment and host genetic factors toward shaping the structure of gut microbiota has been poorly understood.Methods:In this study,we characterized the fecal microbial communities of the closely related voles Neodon fuscus,Lasiopodomys brandtii,and L.mandarinus after caged feeding in the laboratory for 6 months,through high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics analysis.Results:The results of pairwise comparisons of N.fuscus vs.L.brandtii and L.mandarinus vs.L.brandtii revealed significant differences in bacterial diversity and composition after domestication.While 991 same operational taxonomic units(OTUs)were shared in three voles,there were 362,291,and 303 species-specific OTUs in N.fuscus,L.brandtii,and L.mandarinus,respectively.The relative abundances of Proteobacteria and Prevotella,which are reported to be enriched in high-altitude populations,were significantly higher in high-altitude N.fuscus than in low-altitude L.brandtii after domestication.Firmicutes,which produce various digestive enzymes for energy metabolism,and Spirochaetes,which can degrade cellulose,were found in higher abundance in subterranean L.mandarinus than that in L.brandtii which dwells on the earth surface.Conclusion:Our findings showed that some components of gut microbiota still maintained dominance even when different host species are reared under the same environmental conditions,suggesting that these bacteria are substantially influenced by host factors.

Despite its dual role in determining cell fate in a wide array of solid cancer cell lines, autophagy has been robustly shown to suppress or kill acute myeloid leukemia cells via degradation of the oncogenic fusion protein that drives leukemogenesis. However, autophagy also induces the demise of acute leukemia cells that do not express the known fusion protein, though the molecular mechanism remains elusive. Nevertheless, since it can induce cooperation with apoptosis and differentiation in response to autophagic signals, autophagy can be manipulated for a better therapy on acute myeloid leukemia.

Dear editor,According to the China’s National Standard Diagnostic Criteria of Occupational Diseases,occupational acute chemical poisoning refers to the short-term exposure of workers to several chemicals during production,resulting in corresponding organ damage.Herein,we report a case of chemical eye injuries and aspiration pneumonia caused by acute chemical poisoning in the chemical industry.

BACKGROUND Pipeline dredging agents are new household deep cleaning products used to dredge blockages in kitchen and bathroom pipeline caused by grease,hair,vegetable residue,paper cotton fibre,and other organic substances.Pipeline dredging agents are corrosive chemicals that can cause poisoning through corrosive damage to the digestive tract;however,this has not been reported clinically.Therefore,this report emphasises that oral pipeline dredging agent poisoning can cause corrosive damage to the digestive tract and may have serious health consequences.CASE SUMMARY A 68-year-old man consumed liquor(200 m L) at approximately 13:00 on April 22,2021.At approximately 16:00,his family found him unresponsive with blackened lips,blood spots in the corners of the mouth,and blood stains on the ground,as well as an empty bottle of a pipeline dredging agent.One hour later,he was admitted to the emergency department of a local hospital.Considering the empty bottle,he was suspected to have sustained severe corrosive damage to the digestive tract and was transferred to our department at 23:15 on April 22,2021.He developed dysphagia and intermittent fever and experienced difficulty in opening his mouth throughout his hospital stay.The patient’s condition gradually stabilised.However,he suddenly developed respiratory failure on day 12,and endotracheal intubation and ventilator-assisted ventilation were performed.However,the patient died after 1.5 h despite emergency rescue efforts.CONCLUSION Pipeline dredging agents are highly corrosive and may cause corrosive damage to the digestive tract and asphyxia upon consumption.

Objective:Peritoneal fibrosis(PF)is the main cause of declining efficiency and ultrafiltration failure of the peritoneum,which restricts the long-term application of peritoneal dialysis(PD).This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells-derived exosomes(BMSC-Exos)on PF in response to PD.Methods:Small RNA sequencing analysis of BMSC-Exos was performed by second-generation sequencing.C57BL/6J mice were infused with 4.25%glucose-based peritoneal dialysis fluid(PDF)for 6 consecutive weeks to establish a PF model.A total of 36 mice were randomly divided into 6 groups:control group,1.5%PDF group,2.5%PDF group,4.25%PDF group,BMSC-Exos treatment group,and BMSC-Exos+TP53 treatment group.Reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-qPCR)was performed to measure the expression level of miR-27a-3p in BMSC-Exos and peritoneum of mice treated with different concentrations of PDF.HE and Masson staining were performed to evaluate the extent of PF.The therapeutic potential of BMSC-Exos for PF was examined through pathological examination,RT-qPCR,Western blotting,and peritoneal function analyses.Epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)of HMrSV5 was induced with 4.25%PDF.Cells were divided into control group,4.25%PDF group,BMSC-Exos treatment group,and BMSC-Exos+TP53 treatment group.Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to measure cell viability,and transwell migration assay was used to verify the capacity of BMSC-Exos to inhibit EMT in HMrSV5 cells.Results:Small RNA sequencing analysis showed that miR-27a-3p was highly expressed in BMSC-derived exosomes compared to BMSCs.The RT-qPCR results showed that the expression of miR-27a-3p was upregulated in BMSC-Exos,but decreased in PD mice.We found that PF was glucose concentration-dependently enhanced in the peritoneum of the PD mice.Compared with the control mice,the PD mice showed high solute transport and decreased ultrafiltration volume as well as an obvious fibroproliferative response,with markedly increas

In this paper,we present a new class of spatially coupled codes obtained by using both non-recursive and recursive block-oriented superposition.The resulting codes are termed as bidirectional block Markov superposition transmission(BiBMST)codes.Firstly,we perform an iterative decoding threshold analysis according to protograph-based extrinsic information transfer(PEXIT)charts for the BiBMST codes over the binary erasure channels(BECs).Secondly,we derive the generator and parity-check matrices of the BiBMST codes.Thirdly,extensive numerical results are presented to show the advantages of the proposed BiBMST codes.Particularly,our numerical results show that,under the constraint of an equal decoding latency,the BiBMST codes perform better than the recursive BMST(rBMST)codes.However,the simulation results show that,in finite-length regime,negligible performance gain is obtained by increasing the encoding memory.We solve this limitation by introducing partial superposition,and the resulting codes are termed as partially-connected BiBMST(PC-BiBMST)code.Analytical results have confirmed the advantages of the PC-BiBMST codes over the original BiBMST codes.We also present extensive simulation results to show the performance advantages of the PC-BiBMST codes over the spatially coupled low-density parity-check(SC-LDPC)codes,spatially coupled generalized LDPC(SC-GLDPC)codes,and the original BiBMST codes in the finite-length regime.

Background:Delivery room resuscitation assists preterm infants,especially extremely preterm infants(EPI)and extremely low birth weight infants(ELBWI),in breathing support,while it potentially exerts a negative impact on the lungs and outcomes of preterm infants.This study aimed to assess delivery room resuscitation and discharge outcomes of EPI and ELBWI in China.Methods:The clinical data of EPI(gestational age[GA]livery room resuscitation and risk factors for delivery room intubation(DRI).The secondary outcomes were survival rates,incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD),and risk factors for BPD.Results:A cohort of 952 preterm infants were enrolled.The incidence of DRI,chest compressions,and administration of epinephrine was 55.9%(532/952),12.5%(119/952),and 7.0%(67/952),respectively.Multivariate analysis revealed that the risk factors for DRI were GAlivery room(OR,0.273;95%CI,0.160–0.467)were preventive factors for BPD(all Plivery room resuscitation and management of respiratory complications are imperative during early management of the health of EPI and ELBWI.

Modulating reversible isomerization of hydrophobic dyes in aqueous solutions is greatly desired. Here we report on reversible isomerization of solvatochromic donor-acceptor Stenhouse adducts(DASAs) in water through the confinement from dendritic oligoethylene glycols(OEGs). Dendronization of DASAs with dendritic OEGs affords them characteristic thermoresponsiveness. These dendronized DASAs spontaneously isomerize in water from hydrophobic linear state into hydrophilic cyclic state at room temperature due to the strong hydration. However, hydrophobic microenvironment through thermally dehydration and collapse of the dendritic OEGs at elevated temperatures confines hydration of the DASA moieties and mediates their interactions with the collapsed hydrophobic OEG domains, affording their isomerization recovery in water efficiently from the hydrophilic cyclic state into the hydrophobic linear state. The confinement-mediated reversible isomerization of DASA moieties in water can be repeated through alternative photo-irradiation and thermal dehydrations, exhibiting excellent fatigue resistance.

Finite Element Method for Transient Electric Field by Using Indirect Laplace Transform with High Accuracy

This paper focuses on the finite element method in the complex frequency domain(CFD-FEM)for the transient electric field.First,the initial value and boundary value problem of the transient electric field under the electroquasistatic field in the complex frequency domain is given.In addition,the finite element equation and the constrained electric field equation on the boundary are derived.Secondly,the indirect algorithm of the numerical inverse Laplace transform is introduced.Based on it,the calculation procedures of the CFD-FEM are illustrated in detail.Thirdly,the step response,zero-state response under the positive periodic square waveform(PPSW)voltage,and the zero-input response by the CFD-FEM with direct algorithm and indirect algorithm are compared.Finally,the reason for the numerical oscillations of the zero-state response under the PPSW voltage is analyzed,and the method to reduce oscillations is proposed.The results show that the numerical accuracy of the indirect algorithm of the CFD-FEM is more than an order of magnitude higher than that of the direct algorithm when calculating the step response of the transient electric field.The proposed method can significantly reduce the numerical oscillations of the zero-state response under the PPSW voltage.The proposed method is helpful for the calculation of the transient electric field,especially in the case of frequency-dependent parameters.
