Associations between walking parameters and subsequent sleep difficulty in older adults: A 2-year follow-up study

Purpose: This 2-year follow-up study aimed to examine the associations between total volume, frequency, duration, and speed of walking with subsequent sleep difficulty in older ***: A total of 800 older adults aged 65 years and over participated in the first survey in 2012 and 511 of them were followed 2 years *** 5-item Athens Insomnia Scale(AIS-5) was used to measure sleep difficulty. Frequency, duration, and speed of outdoor walking were self-reported. Walking speed was assigned a metabolic equivalent value(MET) from 2.5 to 4.5. Total walking volume in MET-h/week was calculated as frequency × duration × speed. Negative binomial regressions were performed to examine the associations between volume and components of walking with subsequent sleep difficulty with covariates of age, sex, education, marital status, living arrangement, smoking, alcohol consumption, mental health, Charlson Index, exercise(excluding walking), and sleep difficulty at ***: Participants with low walking volume had a higher level of sleep difficulty 2 years later compared with those with high walking volume(incident rate ratios = 1.61, p = 0.004). When speed, frequency, and duration of walking were simultaneously entered into 1 model, only walking speed was significantly associated with subsequent sleep difficulty(after the model was adjusted for covariates and baseline sleep difficulty).Sensitivity analyses showed that walking duration emerged as a significant predictor among 3 walking parameters, with 2-year changes of sleep scores as dependent ***: Total amount of walking(especially faster walking and lasting for more than 20 min) is associated with less subsequent sleep difficulty after 2 years among older adults.

Visualization of the protective role of estrogen against female liver fibrosis via an ER viscosity NIR fluorescent probe

Endoplasmic reticulum(ER) viscosity has emerged as a new potential biomarker for hepatic fibrosis(HF). Herein, we report the first ER-targeting viscosity-responsive near-infrared(NIR) fluorescent probe HBT-PP for investigations of HF *** twisted intramolecular charge transfer(TICT) and the excited state intramolecular proton transfer(ESIPT) are combined to endow HBT-PP with the selective response towards viscosity(～62-fold) and a super large stokes shift(～320 nm). HBT-PP mainly targets organelle ER and is able to image the drug-or alcohol-induced viscosity elevation in living cells. Significantly,HBT-PP was successfully applied to visualize the gender difference in HF and the protective role of estrogen in restraining HF progression. Of note, after 10 min of stain with HBT-PP, HF lesions showed a stage-based response, indicating the potential of this probe in fast and early diagnosis of HF. These results clearly demonstrated the promising application of HBT-PP as a new tool for exploring ER viscosity-involved physiological and pathological processes.

Ovarian endometrioma（OE）, also known as “chocolate cysts,” is a cystic mass that develops in the ovaries due to endometriosis and is a common gynecological condition characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, leading to symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, and infertility. However, the precise molecular and cellular mechanisms driving this pathophysiology remain largely unknown, posing challenges for diagnosis and treatment. Here, we employed integrated single-cell transcriptomic profiling of over 52,000 individual cells from endometrial tissues of OE patients and healthy donors and identified twelve major cell populations. We identified notable alterations in cell type-specific proportions and molecular signatures associated with OE. Notably, the activation of IGFBP5+macrophages with pro-inflammatory properties, NK cell exhaustion, and aberrant proliferation of IQCG+and KLF2+epithelium are key features and may be the potential mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of OE. Collectively, our data contribute to a better understanding of OE at the single cell level and may pave the way for the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

High-Order Extended Kalman Filter Design for a Class of Complex Dynamic Systems with Polynomial Nonlinearities

A novel High-order extended Kalman Filter(HEKF) is designed for a class of complex dynamic systems with polynomial nonlinearities. The state and measurement models are represented by multidimensional high-order polynomials, respectively. All highorder polynomials in the state model are defined as implicit variables. By combining original variables with implicit variables, the state model is equivalently formulated to be a pseudo-linear form. By modeling dynamic relationship between implicit variables and combining original variables with all implicit variables, a new linear augmented state model is established correspondingly. The measurement model can be equivalently formulated as a linear form. On the basis of the new linear state and linear measurement models, the HEKF is designed and derived in *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed estimator.

A Novel Step-by-Step High-Order Extended Kalman Filter Design for a Class of Complex Systems with Multiple Basic Multipliers

A novel step-by-step linearization high-order Extended Kalman filter SH-EKF is designed for a class of nonlinear systems composed of linear functions and the product of several separable basic functions. The basic functions in the state and measurement models are defined as latent variables; the state and measurement models are equivalently formulated into pseudo-linear models based on the combination of the original variable and the latent variables; latent variables are regarded as new variables,and a dynamic linear model between each latent variable and other latent variables with original state is established;the measurement model is rewritten into the first-order linear product form between the current state and each latent variable; latent variables are solved by Kalman filter step by step, and a stepwise linearized high-order extended Kalman filter is designed. Illustration examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new algorithm.

Maximum Correntropy High-Order Extended Kalman Filter

In this paper, a novel maximum correntropy high-order extended Kalman filter(H-MCEKF) is proposed for a class of nonlinear non-Gaussian systems presented by polynomial form. All high-order polynomial terms in the state model are defined as implicit variables and regarded as parameter variables; the original state model is equivalently formulated into a pseudo-linear form with original variables and parameter variables; the dynamic relationship between each implicit variable and all variables is modeled, then an augmented linear state model appears by combing with pseudo-linear state model; similarly, the nonlinear measurement model can be equivalently rewritten into linear form; once again, the statistical characteristics of non-Gaussian modeling error are described by mean value and variance based on their finite samples; combing original measurement model with predicted value regarded as added state measurement, a cost function to solve the state estimation based on maximum correntropy criterion(MCC) is constructed; on the basis of this cost function, the state estimation problem can be equivalently converted into a recursive solution problem in the form of Kalman filter, in which the filter gain matrix is solved by numerical iteration though its fixed-point equation; illustration examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new algorithm.

Asymptotic Formulae for Brillouin Index on Riemannian Manifolds

The effect of multi-orifice plate configuration on bubble detachment volume

The multi-orifice plate gas sparger, mainly composed of a multi-orifice plate and a gas chamber, is one of the most common sparger *** aeration performance of multi-orifice plate has a close relation with the multiorifice plate *** addition, the weeping phenomenon has a considerable influence on the gas chamber condition which affects the bubble detachment volume *** paper conducts a set of visual experiments to study the influence of multi-orifice configuration and gas chamber condition on the aeration performance of gas *** multi-orifice plate, an improved theoretical model is proposed which considers the wave effect of the previous bubbles generated from adjacent orifices and the variance of the number of active bubbling orifice.A parameter is proposed to evaluate the aeration performance in order to overcome the difficulty caused by the randomness of bubble formation *** experimental results suggest that the gas chamber filled with water is in favor of large bubble *** influence of the pitch of orifice on aeration performance can only be observed in high-restricted *** to the theoretical model and experimental results, the influences of gas flow rate and the number of open orifices on the aeration performance are analyzed and a design criterion for the number of open orifice is proposed.

Bubble coalescence reduces specific area and weakens the work performance of bubble column. The bubble coalescence near gas sparger which is caused mainly by bubble growing is different from the ones occurring in major liquid. Bubble coalescence efficiency near gas sparger is influenced by many factors including sparger configuration, gas flow rate, bubble deformation, solution composition, etc. This work has conducted a set of visual experiments to study the coalescence characteristics near multi-orifice plate. The experiment parameters cover a wide range of conditions including large scope of gas flow rate,different kinds of solution and orifice configurations. The experimental results suggest that coalescence time is applicable to reflect the influence of the pitch of orifices and gas flow rate on bubble coalescence efficiency. As the number of orifices increases, bubble coalescence efficiency is reduced by the disturbance from the bubbles at adjacent orifices. A hindering coefficient is used to consider the hindering effect of additives on bubble coalescence efficiency. Finally a new calculation expression is established to predict bubble coalescence efficiency near multi-orifice plate whose fundamental form is based on the logistic curve of binary response. The calculated values that refer to this calculation expression are well consistent with the experimental results.

In this paper, an algorithm for unconstrained optimization that employs both trust region techniques and curvilinear searches is proposed. At every iteration, we solve the trust region subproblem whose radius is generated adaptively only once. Nonmonotonic backtracking curvilinear searches are performed when the solution of the subproblem is unacceptable. The global convergence and fast local convergence rate of the proposed algorithms are established under some reasonable conditions. The results of numerical ＇experiments are reported to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.
