Drought generally has significant impacts on *** is essential to quantitatively evaluate the relationship between crop production and drought degree to provide technical support for drought disaster *** this study,a drought degree index that can reflect the changes in precipitation,evapotranspiration,and soil moisture was developed on the basis of crop yield reduction *** drought scenarios were set up to simulate the effects of meteorological drought on drought degree of crops at different growth stages.A cusp catastrophe model was constructed to analyze the mutation characteristics of the drought degree of maize at different growth stages under different meteorological drought ***'an City in China was selected as the study area,and summer maize was selected as the research *** and crop yield data from 1951 to 2010 were used as the fundamental data to investigate drought degree mutation of summer *** results show that,under the meteorological drought conditions at the emergence-jointing stage,drought degree may change abruptly,and soil moisture content at the sowingemergence,jointing-tasseling,and tasseling-mature stages should be kept higher than 39%.

The future storage systems are expected to contain a wide variety of storage media and layers due to the rapid development of NVM(non-volatile memory)*** NVM-based read caches,many kinds of NVM devices cannot stand frequent data updates due to limited write endurance or high energy consumption of ***,traditional cache algorithms have to update cached blocks frequently because it is difficult for them to predict long-term popularity according to such limited information about data blocks,such as only a single value or a queue that reflects frequency or *** this paper,we propose a new MacroTrend(macroscopic trend)prediction method to discover long-term hot blocks through blocks'macro trends illustrated by their access count *** then a new cache replacement algorithm is designed based on the MacroTrend prediction to greatly reduce the write amount while improving the hit *** conduct extensive experiments driven by a series of real-world traces and find that compared with LRU,MacroTrend can reduce the write amounts of NVM cache devices significantly with similar hit ratios,leading to longer NVM lifetime or less energy consumption.

A series of novel tetrahydro-4H-pyrano[3,2-c]pyridines（3a-3p） were synthesized and found to possess potent antiproliferative activity against leukemia K562 cells in vitro. Preliminary bioassay indicates that compounds 3a and 3e afford the best activity, the IC50 values of them were 6.93 and 7.51μg/mL, respectively, which were lower than that of the anticancer drug 5-FU（1C50=8.56μg/mL）. To reduce the toxicity of compounds 3a-3p to the prolife- ration of normal bematopoietic cells, a tumor targeted CD14 monoclonal antibody（McAb） was used in conjugation with compounds 3a--3p to get conjugates 4a--4p, respectively. The inhibitory activities of conjugates 4a--4p toward K562 cells were discovered to approach those of compounds 3a--3p. In the presence of CD14 McAb, tumor cells were found to be much more susceptible to conjugates 3a--3p than normal hematopoietic cells. Therefore, the toxicity of conjugates 4a--4p to normal hematopoietic cells declined obviously. For example, as for the toxicity of compound 3a compared with that of compound 4a, the value of ICs0 increased from 35.90 μmol/L to 39.52 μmol/L.

The Palmer drought severity index(PDSI) is physically based with multivariate concepts, but requires complicated calibration and cannot easily be used for multiscale comparison. Standardized drought indices(SDIs), such as the standardized precipitation index(SPI) and standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index(SPEI), are multiscalar and convenient for spatiotemporal comparison, but they are still challenged by their lack of physical basis. In this study, a hybrid multiscalar indicator, the standardized Palmer drought index(SPDI), was used to examine drought properties of two meteorological stations(the Beijing and Guangzhou stations) in China, which have completely different drought climatologies. The results of our case study show that the SPDI is correlated with the well-established drought indices(SPI, SPEI, and PDSI) and presents generally consistent drought/wetness conditions against multiple indicators and literature records. Relative to the PDSI, the SPDI demonstrates invariable statistical characteristics and better comparable drought/wetness frequencies over time and space. Moreover,characteristics of major drought events(drought class, and onset and end times) indicated by the SPDI are generally comparable to those detected by the PDSI. As a physically-based standardized multiscalar drought indicator, the SPDI can be regarded as an effective development of the Palmer drought indices, providing additional choices and tools for practical drought monitoring and assessment.

AIM: To explore the protective effects of melatonin (Mel) on the abnormal phosphorylation of neuronal cytoskeletal proteins. METHODS: We generated a neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cell system in which cytoskeletal proteins are abnormally phosphorylated resulting in microtubule disruption due to the marked inhibition of protein phosphatase activities by okadaic acid (OA). RESULTS: OA-induced declines in cell viability and mitochondrial metabolic activity were remarkably prevented by Mel. In addition, the hyperphosphorylation/accumulation of neurofilament- (NF-) H/M subunits and the disruption of microtubules, induced by OA, were significantly inhibited by Mel. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest multiple protective functions of Mel against a series of pathological lesions known to culminate in AD, including abnormal phosphorylation of cytoskeletal proteins, microtubule disassembly and mitochondrion-initiated cell toxicity.
