Effects of organic acids on heavy metal release or immobilization in contaminated soil

In order to explicit the environmental activity of heavy metals affected by different organic acids in soil,a batch incubation experiment was explored to investigate the influence of high relative molecular mass organic acid(HMWOA)(humic acid and fulvic acid)and low relative molecular mass organic acid(LMWOA)(threonic acid and oxalic acid)on the release or immobilization of Pb,Cu and Cd in *** showed that LMWOA,especially threonic acid,had a good performance in the release of Pb,Cu and Cd from soils,and decrease in the fractions of HOAc-extractable,reducible and oxidable Pb,Cu and ***,HMWOA,especially humic acid,decreased the release of Pb,Cu and Cd,while it increased the fractions of HOAc-extractable,reducible and oxidable Pb,Cu and Cd,indicating that HMWOA can immobilize heavy *** release of Pb,Cu and Cd caused by LMWOA was attributed to the dissociation of soil organic matter and amorphous iron oxides since the total organic carbon and the water-soluble iron *** immobilization of Pb,Cu and Cd by HMWOA was attributed to the adsorption onto HMWOA followed by amorphous iron since HMWOA resulted in a significant decrease of zeta potential and an increase of amorphous iron *** can be concluded that LMWOA has a potential application in soil washing remediation,while HMWOA can be used in the immobilization remediation for heavy metals contaminated soils.

Synthesis of phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads for Pb(Ⅱ) and Cd(Ⅱ) sorption and immobilization in aqueous solutions

The phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads were successfully synthesized based on sodium alginate, calcium dihydrogen phosphate and sodium hydrogen carbonate. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were conducted to characterize the morphology and structure of the phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads. The effects of pH and the initial concentration of the metal ions on Pb(II) and Cd(II) sorption by the beads were investigated. The optimal pH values for Pb(II) and Cd(II) sorption are 4.0 and 5.5, respectively. The optimal initial concentrations of Pb(II) and Cd(II) are 200 mg/L and 25 mg/L, correspondingly, and the removal efficiencies are 94.2% and 80%,respectively. The sorption mechanism is that the heavy metal ions accessed the beads firstly due to the large surface area, combinedwith OH?, and then precipitated with phosphate radical, which was proven by FTIR and XRD. The sorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) isfitted to Langmuir isotherm model with R2 values of 0.9957 and 0.988, respectively. The sorption capacities of Pb(II) and Cd(II) are263.16 mg/g and 82.64 mg/g, respectively. The results indicate that the phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads could be appliedto treating Pb(II)/Cd(II)-containing wastewater and it could be implied that the synthesized beads also could be used as a kind of soil ameliorant for remediation of the heavy metal contaminated paddy soil.

Prognostic roles nutritional index in patients with resectable and advanced biliary tract cancers

BACKGROUND Biliary tract cancer(BTC)is a rare,aggressive malignancy with increasing inci-dence and poor *** preoperative prognostic factors is crucial for effective risk-benefit assessments and patient *** prognostic nutritional index(PNI),which reflects immune-inflammatory and nutritional status,has shown prognostic value in various cancers,but its significance in BTC remains *** To assess the prognostic value of the preoperative PNI in BTC patients,with a focus on overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS).METHODS Comprehensive searches were conducted in the PubMed,EMBASE,and Web of Science databases from inception to April *** primary outcomes of interest focused on the associations between the preoperative PNI and the prognosis of BTC patients,specifically OS and disease-free survival(DFS).Statistical analyses were conducted via STATA 17.0 *** Seventeen studies encompassing 4645 patients met the inclusion ***-analysis revealed that a low PNI was significantly associated with poorer OS[hazard ratio(HR)1.91,95%CI:1.59-2.29;P<0.001]and DFS(HR 1.93,95%CI:1.39-2.67;P<0.001).Subgroup analyses revealed consistent results across BTC subtypes(cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer)and stages(resectable and advanced).Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of these findings,and no significant publication bias was *** This study demonstrated that a low preoperative PNI predicts poor OS and DFS in BTC patients,highlighting its potential as a valuable prognostic *** prospective studies are needed to validate these findings and enhance BTC patient management.

Preceding crop rotation systems shape the selection process of wheat root-associated bacterial communities

Impact of depressed left ventricular function on outcomes in patients with three-vessel coronary disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

Background Patients with multivessel coronary artery disease and depressed left ventricular ejection fraction （LVEF） represent a high risk group of patients for coronary revascularization. There are limited data on percutaneous coronary intervention treatment in this population. Methods Among a cohort of 4335 patients with three-vessel disease with or without left main disease undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, 191 patients had LVEF 〈40% （low ejection fraction （EF）） and 4144 patients had LVEF _〉40%. In-hospital and long-term outcomes were examined according to LVEF. Results The estimated two-year rates of major adverse cardiac events, cardiac death, and myocardial infarction were significantly higher in the low EF group （19.64% vs. 8.73%, Log-rank test： P 〈0.01; 10.30% vs. 1.33%, Log-rank test： P 〈0.01, and 10.32% vs. 2.28%, Log-rank test： P 〈0.01 respectively）, but there was no difference in the rates of target vessel revascularization （6.18% vs. 6.11%, Log-rank test： P=0.96）. Using the Cox proportional hazard models, LVEF 〈40% was a significant risk factor for cardiac death, myocardial infarction, and major adverse cardiac events （OR （95% CI）： 4.779 （2.369-9.637）, 2.673 （1.353-5.282）, and 1.827 （1.187-2.813） respectively）, but was not a statistically significant risk factor for target vessel revascularization （OR （95% CI）： 1.094 （0.558-2.147））. Conclusion Among patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for multivessel coronary artery disease, left ventricular dysfunction remains associated with further risk of cardiac death in-hospital and during long-term follow-up.

目的:建立不同血氧饱和度影响主肺动脉压力变化的离体模型,为进一步探索肺动脉高压机制提供研究平台。方法:取新西兰大耳白兔20只,随机选取5只作为正常对照组。其余15只分离肺动脉后将血管置于培养液中,并接入体外循环系统;以新鲜肝素化兔血灌流培养48 h,灌注压力维持40 mm Hg(1 mm Hg=0.133 k Pa);期间通过调节膜肺给氧量控制血氧饱和度,建立3个模型组(n=5):高饱和度组(90%~100%)、中饱和度组(65%~75%)、低饱和度组(40%~50%)。转流结束后获取离体血管和正常对照组兔肺血管行病理形态分析、肺动脉组织IPP6.0定量分析以及匀浆一氧化氮含量分析比较。结果:3个模型组转机时间均达到48 h,压力稳定控制在40 mm Hg,血氧饱和度由高到低分别为(97.94±1.01)%、(72.14±12.85)%、(43.83±8.71)%(P<0.05)。病理分析结果显示:与正常对照组兔肺动脉相比,3个模型组离体培养的肺动脉管壁均明显增厚;随着血氧饱和度降低,3个模型组离体培养的肺动脉弹力纤维逐渐增多、增粗,差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论:本实验建立了不同血氧饱和度影响主肺动脉压力变化的离体血管模型。
