A new interacting capillary bundle model on the multiphase flow in micropores of tight rocks

Surfactants are widely used in the fracturing fluid to enhance the imbibition and thus the oil recovery rate. However, current numerical models cannot capture the physics behind capillary imbibition during the wettability alteration by surfactants. Although the interacting capillary bundle(ICB) model shows potential in characterizing imbibition rates in different pores during wettability alteration, the existing ICB models neglect the influence of wettability and viscosity ratio on the imbibition behavior, making it difficult to accurately describe the oil-water imbibition behavior within the porous media. In this work,a new ICB mathematical model is established by introducing pressure balance without assuming the position of the leading front to comprehensively describe the imbibition behavior in a porous medium under different conditions, including gas-liquid spontaneous imbibition and oil-water *** the pore size distribution of a tight rock is known, this new model can predict the changes of water saturation during the displacement process in the tight rock, and also determine the imbibition rate in pores of different sizes. The water saturation profiles obtained from the new model are validated against the waterflooding simulation results from the CMG, while the imbibition rates calculated by the model are validated against the experimental observations of gas-liquid spontaneous imbibition. The good match above indicates the newly proposed model can show the water saturation profile at a macroscopic scale while capture the underlying physics of the multiphase flow in a porous medium at a microscopic scale. Simulation results obtained from this model indicate that both wettability and viscosity ratio can affect the sequence of fluid imbibition into pores of different sizes during the multiphase flow, where less-viscous wetting fluid is preferentially imbibed into larger pores while more-viscous wetting fluid tends to be imbibed into smaller pores. Topology optimization of chiral metamaterials with application to underwater sound insulation

Chiral metamaterials have been proven to possess many appealing mechanical phenomena,such as negative Poisson's ratio,high-impact resistance,and energy *** work extends the applications of chiral metamaterials to underwater sound *** chiral metamaterials with low acoustic impedance and proper stiffness are inversely designed using the topology optimization *** acoustic impedance enables the metamaterials to have a high and broadband sound transmission loss(STL),while proper stiffness guarantees its robust acoustic performance under a hydrostatic *** proof-of-concept demonstrations,two specimens are fabricated and tested in a water-filled impedance *** results show that,on average,over 95%incident sound energy can be isolated by the specimens in a broad frequency range from 1 k Hz to 5 k Hz,while the sound insulation performance keeps stable under a certain hydrostatic *** work may provide new insights for chiral metamaterials into the underwater applications with sound insulation.

MPI/OpenMP-Based Parallel Solver for Imprint Forming Simulation

In this research,we present the pure open multi-processing(OpenMP),pure message passing interface(MPI),and hybrid MPI/OpenMP parallel solvers within the dynamic explicit central difference algorithm for the coining process to address the challenge of capturing fine relief features of approximately 50 *** such precision demands the utilization of at least 7 million tetrahedron elements,surpassing the capabilities of traditional serial programs previously *** mitigate data races when calculating internal forces,intermediate arrays are introduced within the OpenMP *** helps ensure proper synchronization and avoid conflicts during parallel ***,in the MPI implementation,the coins are partitioned into the desired number of *** division allows for efficient distribution of computational tasks across multiple *** simulation examples are conducted to compare the three solvers with serial programs,evaluating correctness,acceleration ratio,and parallel *** results reveal a relative error of approximately 0.3%in forming force among the parallel and serial solvers,while the predicted insufficient material zones align with experimental ***,speedup ratio and parallel efficiency are assessed for the coining process *** pureMPI parallel solver achieves a maximum acceleration of 9.5 on a single computer(utilizing 12 cores)and the hybrid solver exhibits a speedup ratio of 136 in a cluster(using 6 compute nodes and 12 cores per compute node),showing the strong scalability of the hybrid MPI/OpenMP programming *** approach effectively meets the simulation requirements for commemorative coins with intricate relief patterns.

Feasibility Study on Recovering Human-Occupied Vehicle with An Offshore Crane

Launching and recovering human-occupied vehicles(HOVs)has always been a challenging *** current recovery process requires staff to manually complete the tethering task,which is inefficient and endangers the lives of *** paper suggests moving the recovery position from the surface to underwater at approximately half the wavelength of the water depth(30−50 m underwater),where the HOV experiences less environmental *** ROV equipped with a ultra-short baseline beacon(USBL)and a manipulator was used to complete the tethering ***,a shackle customized to the shape of the manipulator’s gripper is fitted to the end of the cable to simplify the tethering *** investigate the dynamic response of recovering the HOV using this suggested method,a comprehensive numerical model is developed in this *** effects of wind,surface waves,ocean currents,and nonlinear interaction between the installation vessel and the HOV are quantitatively *** results show that the proposed recovery method can reduce the motion amplitude of the HOV and that the wave has the greatest influence on the dynamic response of the HOV during the recovery *** model provides better insight into the proposed HOV recovery method and confirms the effectiveness of the heave compensation *** proposed approach aims to enhance safety and operational efficiency by reducing direct human involvement in the recovery process and mitigating potential *** finding holds particular significance,especially in environmentally sensitive areas,where reducing the impact on the surrounding ecosystem is crucial.

Data-driven Wasserstein distributionally robust chance-constrained optimization for crude oil scheduling under uncertainty

Crude oil scheduling optimization is an effective method to enhance the economic benefits of oil *** uncertainties,including uncertain demands of crude distillation units(CDUs),might make the production plans made by the traditional deterministic optimization models infeasible.A data-driven Wasserstein distributionally robust chance-constrained(WDRCC)optimization approach is proposed in this paper to deal with demand uncertainty in crude oil ***,a new deterministic crude oil scheduling optimization model is developed as the basis of this *** Wasserstein distance is then used to build ambiguity sets from historical data to describe the possible realizations of probability distributions of uncertain demands.A cross-validation method is advanced to choose suitable radii for these ambiguity *** deterministic model is reformulated as a WDRCC optimization model for crude oil scheduling to guarantee the demand constraints hold with a desired high probability even in the worst situation in ambiguity *** proposed WDRCC model is transferred into an equivalent conditional value-at-risk representation and further derived as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming *** case studies from a real-world refinery are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed ***-of-sample tests demonstrate that the solution of the WDRCC model is more robust than those of the deterministic model and the chance-constrained model.

Slag corrosion is one of the main factors of the damage of refractory,and its primary manifestations involve the melting of refractory in slag and the slag penetration into refractory,both of which are highly related to the wetting behavior between slag and *** high-temperature wettability could be characterized by parameters including the surface tension,adhesion work,and spreading coefficient of the slag on refractory surface,and it could be suppressed by altering the slag/refractory interface,thus resulting in an improved anti-corrosion *** this,the key knowledges of the slag corrosion,theory of wetting behavior and test of high-temperature contact angle were firstly ***,the major factors influencing the high-temperature slag wetting behavior were discussed based on the aspects of slag composition,refractory composition,and surface ***,the future research direction was proposed in this field.

To understand the mechanism of the interfacial reaction between high-Mn and high-Al steel and MgO refractory,a series of laboratory experiments as well as thermodynamic calculations were *** effects of Mn and Al contents in the steel and the reaction time on the interfacial reaction were *** was observed that the erosion of the MgO refractory is caused by the reaction of Al and Mn in the steel with MgO in the refractory,which would lead to the formation of(Mn,Mg)O·Al_(2)O_(3) spinel and(Mn,Mg)O solid *** formation mechanism of the spinel and solid solution is as *** Al in the steel firstly reacts with MgO in the refractory to generate MgO·Al_(2)O_(3) spinel,and then,the spinel reacts with Mn in the steel to form(Mn,Mg)O·Al_(2)O_(3) ***,the MnO in the spinel reacts with the MgO in the inner refractory to form(Mn,Mg)O solid *** addition,only(Mn,Mg)O·Al_(2)O_(3) spinel is present in the interfacial reaction layer of the refractory when the Al content in the steel is sufficient.
