Effects of rat urotensin Ⅱ on coronary flow and myocardial eNOS protein expression in isolated rat heart

AIM: To examine the effects of urotensin Ⅱ, a recently discovered endogenous peptide, on coronary flow (CF), cardiac function, and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression in isolated rat hearts. METHODS: Heart was isolated and perfused retrogradely via the aorta in Langendorff mode. Rat urotensin Ⅱ was administered in the perfusion solution. The eNOS content in myocardium was determined by Western blot. RESULTS: Rat urotensin Ⅱ had no effect on the heart rate, left ventricular systolic pressure, left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, or ±dp/dtmax. While rat urotensin Ⅱ dose-dependently increased CF. CF was increased by 11.43 %, 6.67 %, 6.62 %, 6.56 %, 6.36 %, and 5.86 % respectively in a time-dependent manner at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 min after injection of rat urotensin II 6.66×10-2μg. AIM: The present study was designed to test a hypothesis that nonfatal ventricular arrhythmia such as ventricularpremature beats (VPB) is a contributing factor in the elevation of blood pressure variability (BPV). METHODS:Blood pressure (BP) and electrocardiogram were continuously recorded. The relation between VPB and BPV wasobserved under conscious state in chronic myocardial infarction (MI) rats one month after ligation of the leftcoronary artery, and further verified under anesthetized state in rat model of ventricular arrhythmia produced byacute intravenous infusion of aconitine. RESULTS: MI rats exhibited a big difference in the count and pattern ofVPB, and were divided into no VPB, occasional VPB, and frequent VPB groups. Among the three groups, therewere no differences in BP, heart period (HP), and MI size. However, BPV was markedly higher in frequent notoccasional VPB rats, and HP variability (HPV) was larger in both frequent and occasional VPB rats, when comparedwith no VPB rats. In the whole population of MI rats, BPV was positively correlated with VPB and HPV, not withBP, HP and MI size. Infusion of aconitine had no effect on BP, HP, BPV, and HPV during the period without *** VPB after several minutes of aconitine infusion induced significant increase in BPV and HPV with nochange in BP and HP. BPV was also positively correlated with VPB and HPV, not with BP and HP. Hemodynamicsin aconitine-evoked ventricular tachycardia was characterized as lower BP, higher BPV, and higher ***: High BPV can be caused by frequent not occasional VPB in rats.

The global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),as of 8 May 2021,has surpassed 150700000 infections and 3279000 deaths *** indicates that SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be detected on particulate matter(PM),and COVID-19 cases are correlated with levels of air ***,the mechanisms of PM involvement in the spread of SARS-CoV-2 remain poorly ***,we found that PM exposure increased the expression level of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)and transmembrane serine protease 2(TMPRSS2)in several epithelial cells and increased the adsorption of the SARS-CoV-2 spike *** of PM in a hACE2 mouse model significantly increased the expression of ACE2 and Tmprss2 and viral replication in the ***,PM exacerbated the pulmonary lesions caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection in the hACE2 *** conclusion,our study demonstrated that PM is an epidemiological factor of COVID-19,emphasizing the necessity of wearing anti-PM masks to cope with this global pandemic.

Electrochemical conversion of hypertoxic trivalent arsenic to value-added metallic arsenic can not only contribute to pollution abatement,but also resources reutilization,therefore being widely *** reduction of trivalent arsenic as a promising way is widely ***,the high efficiency conversion is retarded by the sluggish reduction kinetics of AsO33−and fierce evolution of side products of both H_(2)and toxic AsH_(3).Herein,by using the sodium citrate as the additive,the current efficiency for metal arsenic production is increased greatly from 60%to 91%,with the accompanied evolution of hypertoxic AsH_(3)being restrained from 0.15 Nm^(3)/t_(As)to 0.022 Nm^(3)/t_(As),promising a high-efficiency and green *** electrochemical tests and electrode surface characterizations aswell as DFT calculations indicate that the added sodium citrate promotes both the diffusion of reactive AsO_(3)^(3−)towards the cathode and its subsequent adsorption on the Ti cathode,contributing to smoother reduction for generating metal arsenic,with the evolution of toxic AsH_(3)being hindered at the same *** results can provide new insights for the highefficiency and greener conversion of hypertoxic trivalent arsenic to value-added metallic arsenic.

Carbon materials are widely recognized as highly promising electrode materials for various energy storage system *** tar residues(CTR),as a type of carbon-rich solid waste with high value-added utilization,are crucially important for the development of a more sustainable *** this study,we employed a straightforward direct carbonization method within the temperature range of 700-1000℃to convert the worthless solid waste CTR into economically valuable carbon materials as anodes for potassium-ion batteries(PIBs).The effect of carbonization temperature on the microstructure and the potassium ions storage properties of CTR-derived carbons(CTRCs)were systematically explored by structural and morphological characterization,alongside electrochemical performances *** on the co-regulation between the turbine layers,crystal structure,pore structure,functional groups,and electrical conductivity of CTR-derived carbon carbonized at 900℃(CTRC-900H),the electrode material with high reversible capacity of 265.6m Ah·g^(-1)at 50 m A·g^(-1),a desirable cycling stability with 93.8%capacity retention even after 100 cycles,and the remarkable rate performance for PIBs were ***,cyclic voltammetry(CV)at different scan rates and galvanostatic intermittent titration technique(GITT)have been employed to explore the potassium ions storage mechanism and electrochemical kinetics of *** indicate that the electrode behavior is predominantly governed by surface-induced capacitive processes,particularly under high current densities,with the potassium storage mechanism characterized by an“adsorption-weak intercalation”*** work highlights the potential of CTR-based carbon as a promising electrode material category suitable for high-performance PIBs electrodes,while also provides valuable insights into the new avenues for the high value-added utilization of CTR.

It has been reported that the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway plays a key role in the pathogenesis of ischemic *** a result,the development of drugs targeting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway has attracted increasing attention from *** article reviews the pathological mechanisms and advancements in research related to the signaling pathways in ischemic stroke,with a focus on the PI3K/AKT signaling *** key findings include the following:(1)The complex pathological mechanisms of ischemic stroke can be categorized into five major types:excitatory amino acid toxicity,Ca^(2+)overload,inflammatory response,oxidative stress,and apoptosis.(2)The PI3K/AKT-mediated signaling pathway is closely associated with the occurrence and progression of ischemic stroke,which primarily involves the NF-κB,NRF2,BCL-2,mTOR,and endothelial NOS signaling pathways.(3)Natural products,including flavonoids,quinones,alkaloids,phenylpropanoids,phenols,terpenoids,and iridoids,show great potential as candidate substances for the development of innovative anti-stroke medications.(4)Recently,novel therapeutic techniques,such as electroacupuncture and mesenchymal stem cell therapy,have demonstrated the potential to improve stroke outcomes by activating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway,providing new possibilities for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with ischemic *** investigations should focus on the direct regulatory mechanisms of drugs targeting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and their clinical translation to develop innovative treatment strategies for ischemic stroke.
