Is traumatic meniscal lesion associated with acute fracture morphology changes of tibia plateau? A series of arthroscopic analysis of 67 patients

BACKGRouND Computed tomography(CT)has become a routine preoperative examination for tibial plateau fractures(TPFs).Assessing the location of the fragment and intercondylar eminence fracture can provide clinicians with valuable information;however,the evaluation of traumatic meniscal lesion(TML)and arthroscopic management are controversial.AIM To predict TML by three-dimensional skeletal anatomy changes in unilateral TPF and bilateral TPF on preoperative thin layer CT.METHODS Acute fracture of tibial plateau patients undergoing arthroscopic surgery between December 2017 and December 2019 were included in this retrospective study.The type,zone,and location of TMLs were diagnosed based on the operation records and/or arthroscopic videos.Measurement of three-dimensional fracture morphology included the following:Frontal fragment width of plateau,sagittal fragment subsiding distance(FSD),sagittal fracture line distance,sagittal posterior tibial slope,and transversal area ratio of fragment area)on preoperative CT three-dimensional plane.The correlation of TML with skeletal values was calculated according to unicondylar TPFs and bicondylar TPFs.RESULTS A total of 67 patients were enrolled in this study,among which 30 patients had TMLs,lateral/medial(23/7).FSD was a particularly positive factor to predict TML,with odds ratio of 2.31(1.26-5.63).On sagittal view of CT,FSD degree of 8 mm and posterior tibial slope exceeding 11.74°implied enhanced risk of TML in bicondylar TPFs.On coronal view,once fragment width of plateau surpassed 3 cm,incidence of TML reached 100%.On transverse view,area ratio of fragment as enhanced risk of 5.5%and FSD>4.3 mm for predicting TML were observed in unicondylar TPFs.CONCLUSION TML can be predicted by different parameters on preoperative CT views according to unicondylar fractures and bicondylar TPFs.

Low profile cavity-embedded ultra-wideband UHF array antenna with end-fire beams

A low-profile,vertically polarized,ultra-wideband array antenna with end-fire beams operating in an ultra-high frequency(UHF)band is developed in this paper.The array antenna consists of 1×16 log-periodic top-hat loaded monopole antenna arrays and is feasible to embed into a shallow cavity to further reduce the array height.Capacitance is introduced in the proposed antenna element to reduce profile height and the rectangular top hats are carefully designed to minimize the transverse dimension.Simulated results show that when the antenna array operates in a frequency range of 300 MHz-900 MHz,the end-fire radiation pattern achieves±45°scanning range in the horizontal plane.Then prototypes of the proposed end-fire antenna element and a uniformly spaced linear array(1×2)are fabricated and validated.The end-fire antenna array should be suitable for airborne applications where low-profile and conformal scanning phased antenna arrays with end-fire radiations are required.This design is attractive for airborne platform applications that are used to search,discover,identify,and scout the aerial target with vertically polarized beams.

Solid surfaces usually reach thermodynamic equilibrium through particle exchange with their environment under reactive conditions.A prerequisite for understanding their functionalities is detailed knowledge of the surface composition and atomistic geometry under working conditions.Owing to the large number of possible Miller indices and terminations involved in multielement solids,extensive sampling of the compositional and conformational space needed for reliable surface energy estimation is beyond the scope of ab initio calculations.Here,we demonstrate,using the case of iron carbides in environments with varied carbon chemical potentials,that the stable surface composition and geometry of multielement solids under reactive conditions,which involve large compositional and conformational spaces,can be predicted at ab initio accuracy using an approach that combines the bond valence model,Gaussian process regression,and ab initio thermodynamics.Determining the atomistic structure of surfaces under working conditions paves the way toward identifying the true active sites of multielement catalysts in heterogeneous catalysis.

Analysis of metabolic characteristics of metabolic syndrome in elderly patients with gastric cancer by non-targeted metabolomics

BACKGRouND The relationship between metabolic syndrome(MetS)and gastric cancer(GC),which is a common metabolic disease,has attracted much attention.However,the specific metabolic characteristics of MetS in elderly patients with GC remain unclear.AIM To investigate the differentially abundant metabolites and metabolic pathways between preoperative frailty and MetS in elderly patients with GC based on nontargeted metabolomics techniques.METHODS In this study,125 patients with nonfrail nonmeal GC were selected as the control group,and 50 patients with GC in the frail group were selected as the frail group.Sixty-five patients with GC combined with MetS alone were included in the MetS group,and 50 patients with GC combined with MetS were included in the MetS group.Nontargeted metabolomics techniques were used to measure plasma metabolite levels by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.Multivariate statistical analysis was performed by principal component analysis,orthogonal partial least squares,pattern recognition analysis,cluster analysis,and metabolic pathway annotation.RESULTS A total of 125 different metabolites,including amino acids,glycerophospholipids,sphingolipids,fatty acids,sugars,nucleosides and nucleotides,and acidic compounds,were identified via nontargeted metabolomics techniques.Compared with those in the control group,there were 41,32,and 52 different metabolites in the MetS group,the debilitated group,and the combined group,respectively.Lipid metabolites were significantly increased in the MetS group.In the weak group,amino acids and most glycerol phospholipid metabolites decreased significantly,and fatty acids and sphingosine increased significantly.The combined group was characterized by significantly increased levels of nucleotide metabolites and acidic compounds.The alanine,aspartic acid,and glutamate metabolic pathways were obviously enriched in the asthenic group,and the glycerol and phospholipid metabolic pathways were obviously enriched in the combined group.CONCLUSION

Recent studies have shown that cellular levels of polyamines(PAs)are significantly altered in neurodegenerative diseases.Evidence from in vivo animal and in vitro cell experiments suggests that the cellular levels of various PAs may play important roles in the central nervous system through the regulation of oxidative stress,mitochondrial metabolism,cellular immunity,and ion channel functions.Dysfunction of PA metabolism related enzymes also contributes to neuronal injury and cognitive impairment in many neurodegenerative diseases.Therefore,in the current work,evidence was collected to determine the possible associations between cellular levels of PAs,and related enzymes and the development of several neurodegenerative diseases,which could provide a new idea for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases in the future.

Design study of charge-stripping scheme of heavy ion beams for HIAF-BRing

Charge strippers play an essential role in heavy-ion accelerators by stripping the projectile ions to higher charge states to enhance the acceleration efficiency downstream of the stripper.In the high-energy mode of the booster ring(BRing)of the high-intensity heavy-ion accelerator facility,the pre-accelerated ions from the iLinac will be stripped by a carbon foil to higher charge states and then injected into the BRing.The key parameters of the stripper and stripped ions were calculated,and the influence of stripping on the beam quality was discussed.To get high stripping efficiencies,the foil thicknesses and resultant charge state distributions for the typical ions were determined by the code ETACHA.The equilibrium thickness was obtained for the U beam,while the stripper thicknesses for the Xe and Kr beams were determined based on a compromise between the stripped charge states and the stripping efficiency.The energy loss,energy straggling,and emittance growth due to stripping have a non-negligible impact on the transport of the stripped beams and the injection of the ring.Therefore,these parameters were simulated by GEANT4.In addition,the foil’s temperature evolution,which greatly affects the foil lifetime,was simulated by ANSYS.The maximum temperature of the foil bombarded by the U and Xe beams with the nominal parameters will exceed the safe value in terms of the impact of evaporation on the foil’s lifetime.Given the foil temperature constraint,the highest tolerable beam intensity and the injected ion number into the ring were derived for different beam sizes.The results of this paper will present important reference data for the optimization design and commissioning of the beamline and injection to the BRing for the stripped ions.

A regression approach for seismic first-break picking

The picking efficiency of seismic first breaks(FBs) has been greatly accelerated by deep learning(DL)technology. However, the picking accuracy and efficiency of DL methods still face huge challenges in low signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) situations. To address this issue, we propose a regression approach to pick FBs based on bidirectional long short-term memory(Bi LSTM) neural network by learning the implicit Eikonal equation of 3D inhomogeneous media with rugged topography in the target region. We employ a regressive model that represents the relationships among the elevation of shots, offset and the elevation of receivers with their seismic traveltime to predict the unknown FBs, from common-shot gathers with sparsely distributed traces. Different from image segmentation methods which automatically extract image features and classify FBs from seismic data, the proposed method can learn the inner relationship between field geometry and FBs. In addition, the predicted results by the regressive model are continuous values of FBs rather than the discrete ones of the binary distribution. The picking results of synthetic data shows that the proposed method has low dependence on label data, and can obtain reliable and similar predicted results using two types of label data with large differences. The picking results of9380 shots for 3D seismic data generated by vibroseis indicate that the proposed method can still accurately predict FBs in low SNR data. The subsequent stacked profiles further illustrate the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method. The results of model data and field seismic data demonstrate that the proposed regression method is a robust first-break picker with high potential for field application.

Association between the cumulative triglyceride-glucose index and the recurrence of atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency catheter ablation

BACKGRouND Triglyceride-glucose(TyG)index values are a new surrogate marker for insulin resistance.This study aimed to explore the relationship between cumulative TyG index values and atrial fibrillation(AF)recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation(RFCA).METHODS A total of 576 patients with AF who underwent RFCA at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University were included in this study.The participants were grouped based on cumulative TyG index values tertiles within 3 months after ablation.Cox regression and restricted cubic spline analyses were used to determine the relationship between cumulative TyG index values and AF recurrence.The predictive value of all risk factors was assessed by receiver operating curve analysis.RESULTS There were 375 patients completed the study(age:63.23±10.73 years,64.27%male).The risk of AF recurrence increased with increasing cumulative TyG index values tertiles.After adjusting for potential confounders,patients in the medium cumulative TyG index group[hazard ratio(HR)=4.949,95%CI:1.778–13.778,P=0.002]and the high cumulative TyG index group(HR=8.716,95%CI:3.371–22.536,Poup.The restricted cubic spline regression model also showed an increased risk of AF recurrence with increasing cumulative TyG index values.When considering cumulative TyG index values,left atrial diameter,and lactate dehydrogenase levels as a comprehensive factor,the model could effectively predict AF recurrence after RFCA[area under the curve(AUC)=0.847,95%CI:0.797–0.897,Poutcome prediction for AF recurrence.

Oxygen evolution reaction（OER） catalysts are the key core materials that determine the performance of fuel cells,metal-air batteries,electrolytic water decomposition,and other applications.In this work,a green lignin-based non-precious metal OER catalyst was prepared by a simple strategy.Firstly,c arboxylated lignin was used to complex Ni and Co in situ,and then they were placed with sodium hypophosphite in the same tube furnace for upstream and downstream high-temperature calcination to construct a lignin carbon-based Ni-Co bimetallic OER catalyst（NiCoP@C）.The synthesized catalyst is a porous bimetallic phosphide with a three-dimensional network structure and high-density electrochemical active sites.NiCoP@C exhibited favorable catalytic activity for the oxygen evolution reaction（OER） with overpotential of 280 mV at 10 mA·cm-2and a Tafel slope of 77 mV·dec-1.Additionally,it exhibited remarkable durability during usage.Density functional theory（DFT） calculations revealed that by leveraging the distinctive structure of transition metal phosphide nanoparticles incorporated into a reticulated substrate,the NiCoP@C catalyst offered an increased number of active sites for OER catalysis,significantly enhancing its stability during practical applications.The present study broadens the utilization pathways of biomass to "turn waste into treasure," aligning the development concept of green sustainable development.

Centrifugal pumps are widely used in the metallurgy,coal,and building sectors.In order to study the hydraulic characteristics of a closed impeller centrifugal pump during its shutdown in the so-called power frequency and frequency conversion modes,experiments were carried to determine the characteristic evolution of parameters such as speed,inlet and outlet pressure,head,flow rate and shaft power.A quasi-steady-state method was also used to further investigate these transient behaviors.The results show that,compared to the power frequency input,the performance parameter curves for the frequency conversion input are less volatile and smoother.The characteristic time is longer and the response to shutdown is slower.The quasi-steady-state theoretical head-flow curves match the experimental head-flow curves more closely at low flow rates when the frequency conversion input is considered.Moreover,in this case,the similarity law predicts the hydraulic performance more accurately.
