Retroperitoneal teratoma resection assisted by 3-dimensional visualization and virtual reality:A case report

The effects of stereotactic body radiotherapy on peripheral natural killer and CD3~+CD56~+ NKT-like cells in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Background: Both natural killer(NK) and CD3+CD56+ natural killer T(NKT)-like cells play critical roles in the antitumor response. This study aimed to explore the effects of stereotactic body radiotherapy(SBRT) on peripheral NK and NKT-like cells in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), and to identify possible surface markers on these cells that correlate with the prognosis. Methods: Twenty-five HCC patients were prospectively enrolled in our study, and 10 healthy individuals were served as healthy controls. Flow cytometry was used to determine the counts and the percentages of peripheral NK and NKT-like cells, cells with certain receptors, and cells with intracellular interferon-γand TNF-α secretion at different time points, including time points of prior to SBRT, at post-SBRT, and 3-month and 6-month after treatment. The Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test was applied for survival analysis. Results: The peripheral NKT-like cells was increased at post-SBRT. Meanwhile, elevated levels of inhibitory receptors and reduced levels of activating receptors of NK cells were also observed in NK cells at post-SBRT, but the levels was not significantly different at 3-month and 6-month as compared with the baseline levels. Lower percentage of NKp30+ NK cells before SBRT and higher percentage of CD158b + NK cells after SBRT were associated with poor progression-free survival. In addition, higher percentage of CD3+CD56+ NKT-like cells was associated with a higher overall survival rate in HCC patients. Conclusions: SBRT has an apparent effect on both peripheral NK and CD3+ CD56+ NKT-like cells. Lower percentage of NKp30 + NK cells before SBRT and higher percentage of CD158b + NK cells after SBRT are correlated with poor patients' PFS. Higher percentage of CD3+ CD56+ NKT-like cells is associated with higher OS in HCC patients.

Interannual succession of phytoplankton community in a canyon-shaped drinking water reservoir during the initial impoundment period:Taxonomic versus functional groups

During the initial impoundment period of a canyon-shaped reservoir,the water body fluctuated violently regarding water level,hydrological condition,and thermal *** variations may alter the structure of phytoplankton community,resulting in algal blooms and seriously threatening the ecological security of the *** is of great significance to understand the continuous changes of phytoplankton in the initial impoundment period for the protection of reservoir water ***,a two-year in-situ monitoring study was conducted on water quality and phytoplankton in a representative canyonshaped reservoir named Sanhekou and the interannual changes of phytoplankton community and its response to environmental changes during the initial impoundment period were discussed at taxonomic versus functional classification *** results showed that the total nitrogen and permanganate index levels were relatively high in the first year due to rapid water storage and heavy rainfall input,and the more stable hydrological conditions in the second year promoted the increase of algae density and the transformation of community,and the proportion of cyanobacteria increased *** succession order of phytoplankton in the first year of the initial impoundment periodwas Chlorophyta-Bacillariophyta-Chlorophyta,or J/F/X1-P/MP/W1-A/X1/MP,*** the succession order in the second year was Cyanobacteria/Chlorophyta-Bacillariophyta-Chlorophyta,or L_(M)/G/P-P/A/X1-X1/J/*** temperature,relativewater column stability,mixing depth,and pHwere crucial factors affecting phytoplankton community *** study revealed the interannual succession law and driving factors of phytoplankton in the initial impoundment period and provided an important reference for the operation management and ecological protection of canyon-shaped reservoirs.

Cloning and Analysis of the Promoter Region of Rat uPA Gene

Objective To clone and analyze the promoter sequence of rat urokinase plasminogen activator protein gene. Methods The genomic DNA was extracted from rat testicular tissue. According to urokinase plasminogen activator, the gene sense primer and antisense primer of uPA gene were designed and synthesized, then Touch-Down PCR were performed. After proper purification, the PCR product was sequenced, analyzed with the promoter prediction software and compared with the DNA sequence of rattuas urokinase plasminogen activator. Results The cloned uPA gene was about 1 572 bp in length, which contained a full open-reading frame with 21 bp in length exons, and the upper region of transcriptional start was 1 551 bp in length which was eucaryon transcriptional control area. The 5＇ UTR had a promoter region including a non-responsive TATA-box. Not only the GC-box binding region was found in this gene, but also active protein I （AP1） and SP1 were seen in other regions. Conclusion A 1 572 bp uPA gene fragment （GenBank accession No.X65651） was obtained from rat genomic DNA library, containing eucaryon transcriptional control area with a promoter region, non-conspicuous TATA-box, GC-box and an extron. A non-responsive TATA-box is located at the upper -30 region.

The Chinese Society of Hepatology developed the current guidelines on the management of hepatic encephalopathy in cirrhosis based on the published evidence and the panelists’ consensus. The guidelines provided recommendations for the diagnosis and management of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) including minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) and overt hepatic encephalopathy, emphasizing the importance on screening MHE in patients with end-stage liver diseases. The guidelines emphasized that early identification and timely treatment are the key to improve the prognosis of HE. The principles of treatment include prompt removal of the cause, recovery of acute neuropsychiatric abnormalities to baseline status, primary prevention, and secondary prevention as soon as possible.

Background and Aims:There are no comparative studies on the efficacy of hepatic resection(HR)and CyberKnife stereotactic body radiation therapy(CK-SBRT)plus transhepatic arterial chemotherapy embolization(TACE)in the treatment of large hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Therefore,this study aimed to compare the efficacy of HR and CKSBRT+TACE in large ***:A total of one hundred and sixteen patients were selected from November 2011 to December *** them,50 were allocated to the CKSBRT+TACE group and 66 were allocated to the HR *** Kaplan-Meier method was applied to calculate overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS)*** score matching was performed to control for baseline differences between the ***:Thirtysix paired patients were selected from the CK-SBRT+TACE and HR *** propensity score matching,the 1-,2-and 3-year OS rates were 83.3%,77.8%and 66.7%in the HR group and 80.6%,72.2%and 52.8%in the CKSBRT+TACE group,*** 1-,2-and 3-year PFS rates were 71.6%,57.3%and 42.3%in the HR group and 66.1%,45.8%and 39.3%in the CK-SBRT+TACE group,respectively(OS:p=0.143;PFS:p=0.445).Both a high platelet count and low alpha-fetoprotein value were revealed as influencing factors in improving OS and ***:CK-SBRT+TACE brought local effects that were similar to those of HR in HCC patients with a large and single ***,the liver injury occurrence rate was acceptable in both groups.

Removal of arsenic from water by silver nanoparticles and Fe-Ce mixed oxide supported on polymeric anion exchanger

By encapsulating nanoscale particles of goethite(α-FeO(OH)),hydrous ceric oxide(CeO_(2)·H_(2)O,HCO)and silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)in the pores of polystyrene anion exchanger D201,a novel nanocomposite FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 was prepared for the effective removal of arsenic from *** isotherm study shows that FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 has excellent adsorption performance for As(III)and As(V),with an increased adsorption capacity of As(III)to 40.12 mg/g compared to that of 22.03 mg/g by the composite adsorbent without AgNPs(FeO(OH)-HCO-D201).The adsorption kinetics data showed that the sorption rate of FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 for As(III)is less than that for As(V),and the adsorption of As(III)and As(V)were consistent with the pseudo-second-order model and the pseudofirst-order model,*** or basic conditions are favored for the adsorption of As(III/V)by FeO(OH)-*** with nitrate/chloride/bicarbonate,sulfate/silicate/phosphate showed more remarkable inhibition of arsenic removal by FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201,whereas natural organic matter showed no interference to the arsenic *** As(V)adsorption involved different interactions such as electrostatic attraction and surface complexation,while the adsorption of As(III)involved the part oxidization of As(III)to As(V)and the simultaneous adsorption of As(III)and As(V).In addition to the Ce(IV)in CeO_(2)·H_(2)O acted as an oxidant,the synergistic effect ofα-FeO(OH)and AgNPs also contributed to the oxidization of As(III)to As(V).Moreover,the reusable property suggested that this FeO(OH)-HCO-Ag-D201 nanocomposite has great potential for arsenic-contaminated water purification.
