Effects of huangqi and bear bile on recurrent parotitis in children:a new clinical approach

Objective:To evaluate the pharmacological effects of traditional Chinese medicine,bear bile capsule and huangqi granule,on recurrent parotitis in ***:In this prospective,controlled,and randomized study,a total of 151 young children were divided into three groups:Group A included massaging the children's parotid region and melting vitamin C in their mouth daily;Group B included swallowing bear bile capsule and huangqi granule daily;and Group C included massages and vitamin C as prescribed in Group A,and traditional Chinese medicine as prescribed in Group *** were treated individually for one month and then a follow-up study was conducted for 1 to 3.5 *** of variance(ANOVA) and Ridit analysis were employed for statistical ***:The recurrence rate decreased in every group,but was significantly more in Groups B and C when compared to Group *** recurrences significantly decreased(Phuangqi and bear bile could be a novel clinical approach for treating recurrent parotitis in children.

The generation of various β-chiral sulfones bearing chiral cyclic sulfinamides through photoredox-catalyzed sulfur dioxide insertion with asymmetric radical cyclization is described. This method features a broad substrate scope and excellent stereospecificity. Computational studies reveal that the dispersion interaction between sulfinyl group and CH2SO2Ph group plays a crucial role in the stereoselectivity control.

The autonomy and property of atoms/molecules adsorbed on the surface of a microcantilever can be probed by measuring its resonance frequency shift due to *** resonance frequency change of a cantilever induced by chemisorption is theoretically studied. Oxygen chemisorbed on the Si(100) surface is taken as a representative *** demonstrate that the resonant response of the cantilever is mainly determined by the chemisorption-induced bending stiffness variation,which depends on the bond configurations formed by the adsorbed atoms and substrate *** study is helpful for optimal design of microcantilever-based sensors for various applications.

When the rotary blood pumps are used as ventricular assist devices,the pump flow rate will have a pulsatile component even at a constant impeller rotational speed due to the remaining beating of the natural ***,previous studies on the in vitro hemolysis evaluation of a rotary blood pump have always been conducted under steady states and this pulsation was not taken into *** this study,the hemolysis in a centrifugal blood pump is evaluated under the pulsatile flow condition in *** required time-varying flow rate is obtained by conducting a system simulation of the pump-assisted cardiovascular system,and realized by controlling a pulsation unit in the *** results of our tests indicate a significant increase in hemolysis under the pulsatile flow condition compared with the non-pulsatile *** reveal the flow characteristics responsible for the higher hemolysis,transient computational fluid dynamic simulations are then *** study suggests that traditional hemolysis evaluation under the steady states may not fully represent the hemolytic performance in the clinical *** the ventricular assist pumps at the design stage,eliminating the concern about the extra hemolysis under the pulsatile condition will be helpful for the subsequent in vivo experiments.

The volatile oil was extracted from water caltrop by steam distillation; it was then analyzed by GC-MS to obtain 16 components, 8 of which were identified. Apocynin was the most abundant one, accounting for 81.41% of the total oil. The in vitro inhibitory effects of the volatile oil on SMMC-7721, MCF-7, Hela, HL-60 cells, and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells（PBMC） were investigated via the MTT method. The morphological changes of the tumor cells were observed and the apoptosis of HL-60 cells was detected by flow cytometry. The proliferation of the tumor cells could be significantly inhibited and the apoptosis of HL-60 cells could be induced by the volatile oil. The proliferation inhibition effect of the volatile oil on HL-60 tumor cells and the induction of the apoptosis of ilL-60 cells had dose-dependent feature.

Elemental Composition and Geochemical Characteristics of Iron-Manganese Nodules in Main Soils of China

Elemental composition and geochemical characteristics of iron-manganese nodules from nine main soils in China were studied by chemical and multivariate statistical analyses to better understand the reactions and functions of iron-manganese nodules in soils and sediment. Compared to the corresponding soils, Mn, Ba, Cd, Co and Pb had strong accumulation, Ni had moderate accumulation, while Ca, Cu, Fe, Na, P, Sr and Zn accumulated to a minor degree in the iron-manganese nodules. In contrast, Si, Al, K, Mg and Ti were reduced in the iron-manganese nodules. The contents of Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn were positively and significantly correlated with that of MnO2 in the iron-manganese nodules, while the contents of Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn were positively and significantly correlated with that of Fe2O3 in soils. Based on a principle component analysis, the elements of iron-manganese nodules were divided into four groups: 1) Mn, Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Li, Ni, Pb and Zn that were associated with Mn oxides, 2) Fe, Cr and P that were associated with Fe oxides, 3) Si, K, and Mg that were included in the elemental composition of phyllosilicate, and 4) Ca, Na, Al and Ti that existed in todorokite, birnessite, lithiophorite and phyllosilicate. It was suggested that accumulation, mineralization and specific adsorption were involved in the formation processes of soil iron-manganese nodules.

In this paper,we propose a numerical method for turning point problems in one dimension based on Petrov-Galerkin finite element method(PGFEM).We first give a priori estimate for the turning point problem with a single boundary turning *** we use PGFEM to solve it,where test functions are the solutions to piecewise approximate dual *** prove that our method has a first-order convergence rate in both L∞h norm and a discrete energy norm when we select the exact solutions to dual problems as test *** results show that our scheme is efficient for turning point problems with different types of singularities,and the convergency coincides with our theoretical results.

Forms and Balance of Nitrogen and Phosphorus in Cage Culture Waters in Guangdong Province, China

In order to approach the characteristics of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution caused by cage culture and the balance of nitrogen and phosphorus during the process of cage culture, a monitoring was conducted in Daya Bay of Guangdong Province, China from April 2002 to Jane 2003. The results show that the concentrations of total nitrogen （TN） in the waters at the sites with five and ten years of cage culture history are 1.8 and 2.3 times of that at control site respectively. Ammonium （NH3-N） is the main form of nitrogen in spring while nitrate （NO~） in winter. The concentrations of TN, total dissolved nitrogen （TDN） and dissolved organic nitrogen （DON） are highest in autumn. The concentration of phosphorus increases with the increasing of the culturing time, among which phosphate （ PO^-34） increases most obviously. The concentrations of total phosphorus （TP） and total dissolved phosphorus （TDP） are highest in autumn. The nitrogen and phosphorus are accumulated significantly in the sediment of cage culture area. The model of N balance in the cage culture area： bait （70.62%）＋ fry （0.28%）＋ input by tide （14.8%）＋ release from sediment 04.3%） = harvest of adult fish （12.07%）＋ deposition into sediment （28.75%）＋ output by tide （56.18%）＋ others （3.00%）. The model of P balance： bait （83.11%）＋ fry （0.17%）＋ input by tide （12.23%）＋ release from sediment （4.49%） = harvest of adult fish （8.43%）＋ deposition into sediment （48.59%）＋ output by tide （41.94%）＋ others （1.04%）. In one fish growth year, the contents of nitrogen and phosphorus in harvest of adult fish are only 17.0% and 10.1% of the contents of nitrogen and phosphorus in fish bait and fry, wherein 83% of nitrogen and more than 89% of phosphorus in fish bait became marine pollutants.

Establishing the relationship between vibrotactile parameters and perceived intensity（PI） is of great significance in the regulation of desired sensations, which contribute to haptic interfaces in practical applications. Coin eccentric rotating mass（ERM） motors are routinely utilized due to their lightweight design and efficient ability to evoke strong tactile sensations. By adjusting input voltages, ERMs can yield different stimuli, but the effects of their physical properties on PI remain ***, we developed the physical model of the ERM-skin system and optimized the parameters affecting PI. Moreover, the relationship between stimulus and perception was derived based on Fechner?s law. Three experiments were conducted on fifteen subjects（ten males and five females, aged 24.40 ± 2.87 years） to identify the vibration parameters and corresponding PI to verify the proposed PI model. ERMs in this study were attached to phantom skin/forearm with slim adhesive tape to minimize the interference. Experiment 1 performed vibration calibration with ERM attached to the skin phantom to simulate the actual configuration. Then, the relative and absolute PI of subjects on specific stimuli were acquired in Experiments 2 and *** fitting reliability of the proposed PI model was evaluated on fifteen subjects with R2of 0.73 ± 0.07 and root mean squared error（RMSE） of 1.35 ± 0.28. Overall, the proposed PI model established the quantitative relationship between stimulus parameters（vibration parameters and physical parameters） and subjective PI, which provided theoretical support for ERM optimization and vibrotactile modulation.
