Axial-flow pumps are widely employed in urban flood control and drainage pumping stations.The inlet vortex is one factor that seriously threaten the safe,stable and efficient operation of axial-flow pump units.In this paper,the vortex recognition performances of two vortex identification methods,the Q—criterion and Liutex methods,are compared based on an axial-flow pump,and the interactions between the impeller and vortex are explored.A flat plate vortex generator is installed in front of the impeller to continuously induce a stable vortex.The numerical simulation results show that the Liutex method can not only simultaneously identify strong and weak vortices but also reduce the influence of shear force at the sidewall.The vortex and the impeller influence each other.Under the influence of rotating blades,the vortex changes from a low frequency to the blade frequency,and the vortex significantly changes the tangential velocity inside the impeller.The accuracy of the numerical simulation results is verified by experiments on the external and internal characteristics.

Preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy,combined with total mesorectal excision,has become the standard treatment for advanced localized rectal cancer(RC).However,the biological complexity and heterogeneity of tumors may contribute to cancer recurrence and metastasis in patients with radiotherapy-resistant RC.The identification of factors leading to radioresistance and markers of radiosensitivity is critical to identify responsive patients and improve radiotherapy outcomes.MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are small,endogenous,and noncoding RNAs that affect various cellular and molecular targets.miRNAs have been shown to play important roles in multiple biological processes associated with RC.In this review,we summarized the signaling pathways of miRNAs,including apoptosis,autophagy,the cell cycle,DNA damage repair,proliferation,and metastasis during radiotherapy in patients with RC.Also,we evaluated the potential role of miRNAs as radiotherapeutic biomarkers for RC.

Small auxin up RNA(SAUR) is a large gene family that is widely distributed among land plants. In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the SAUR family was performed in sweet cherry, and the potential biological functions of PavSAUR55 were identified using the method of genetic transformation. The sweet cherry genome encodes 86 SAUR members, the majority of which are intron-less. These genes appear to be divided into seven subfamilies through evolution. Gene duplication events indicate that fragment duplication and tandem duplication events occurred in the sweet cherry. Most of the members mainly underwent purification selection pressure during evolution. During fruit development, the expression levels of Pav SAUR16/45/56/63 were up-regulated, and conversely, those of Pav SAUR12/61were down-regulated. Due to the significantly differential expressions of PavSAUR13/16/55/61 during the fruitlet abscission process, they might be the candidate genes involved in the regulation of physiological fruit abscission in sweet cherry. Overexpression of PavSAUR55 in Arabidopsis produced earlier reproductive growth, root elongation, and delayed petal abscission. In addition, this gene did not cause any change in the germination time of seeds and was able to increase the number of lateral roots under abscisic acid(ABA) treatment. The identified SAURs of sweet cherry play a crucial role in fruitlet abscission and will facilitate future insights into the mechanism underlying the heavy fruitlet abscission that can occur in this fruit crop.

The highly diverse genus Trichoderma has provided many formulations that are alternatives to the chemical pesticides in agriculture.The present study was undertaken to investigate the biocontrol potential of eight Trichoderma species,T.atrobrunneum,T.guizhouense,T.paratroviride,T.pyramidale,T.rufobrunneum,T.simmonsii,T.thermophilum and T.viridulum,against the phytopathogenic fungus Rhizoctonia solani.Trichoderma isolates were first evaluated in vitro by dual culture tests for their antagonism,mycoparasitic ability and antifungal activity against R.solani.Their growth promoting potential was further assessed in relation to phosphate solubilization,indole acetic acid and siderophore production.Five of the isolates were selected and evaluated for their abilities to prompt plant growth and to control R.solani infecting Vigna unguiculata(cowpea)seedlings in vivo.Two most effective isolates,T.guizhouense 9185 and T.simmonsii 8702,significantly(P<0.05)reduced the disease severity incidences(36.6 and 45.0%,respectively)and promoted plant growth,which have good prospects for application.

Background:Despite improvements in disease diagnosis,treatment,and prognosis,breast cancer is still a leading cause of cancer death for women.Compelling evidence suggests that targeting cancer stem cells(CSCs)have a crucial impact on overcoming the current shortcomings of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.In the present study,we aimed to study the effects of T cells and a critical anti-tumor cytokine,interferon-gamma(IFN-γ),on breast cancer stem cells.Methods:BALB/c mice and BALB/c nude mice were subcutaneously injected with 4T1 tumor cells.Tumor growth and pulmonary metastasis were assessed.ALDEFLOUR™assays were performed to identify aldehyde dehydrogenase^(bright)(ALDH^(br))tumor cells.ALDH^(br)cells as well as T cells from tumor-bearing BALB/c mice were analyzed using flow cytometry.The effects of CD8^(+)T cells on ALDH^(br)tumor cells were assessed in vitro and in vivo.The expression profiles of ALDH^(br)and ALDH^(dim)4T1 tumor cells were determined.The levels of plasma IFN-γwere measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,and their associations with the percentages of ALDH^(br)tumor cells were evaluated.The effects of IFN-γon ALDH expression and the malignancy of 4T1 tumor cells were analyzed in vitro.Results:There were fewer metastatic nodules in tumor-bearing BALB/c mice than those in tumor-bearing BALB/c nude mice(25.40 vs.54.67,P<0.050).CD8^(+)T cells decreased the percentages of ALDH^(br)4T1 tumor cells in vitro(control vs.effector to target ratio of 1:1,10.15%vs.5.76%,P<0.050)and in vivo(control vs.CD8^(+)T cell depletion,10.15%vs.21.75%,P<0.001).The functions of upregulated genes in ALDH^(br)4T1 tumor cells were enriched in the pathway of response to IFN-γ.The levels of plasma IFN-γdecreased gradually in tumor-bearing BALB/c mice,while the percentages of ALDH^(br)tumor cells in primary tumors increased.IFN-γat a concentration of 26.68 ng/mL decreased the percentages of ALDH^(br)4T1 tumor cells(22.88%vs.9.88%,P<0.050)and the protein levels of aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1 in 4T1 tumor cells(0

The Effect of Pore Solution on the Hysteretic Curve of Expansive Soil under Cyclic Loading

A dynamic triaxial instrument was used to study the effects of different concentrations of sodium chloride and stress amplitudes on the dynamic properties of an expansive soil under cyclic loading.In particular,four parameters were considered in such a parametric investigation,namely,hysteresis curve morphology characteristic non-closure degreeεp,the ratio of the short and long axisα,the slope of the long axis k and the enclosed area S.The results show that with an increase in the sodium chloride concentration,the soil particle double electric layer becomes thinner,the distance between soil particles decreases,and the whole sample becomes denser.Theεp-N,α-N and S–N relation curves all show a decreasing trend.The ratio of plastic deformation to total deformation grows with increasing the dynamic stress amplitude,and the curves show an upwards trend.The k-N relationship curve displays an increasing trend with the concentration and a general downwards trend as the dynamic stress amplitude is made higher.This also indicates that sodium chloride solutions can improve the engineering properties of expansive soil to a certain extent.With an increase in the vibration times N,the shape of the hysteretic curve becomes narrower,and the whole soil exhibits a cyclic strain hardening.With the help of an exponential function,a model is introduced to predict the relationship between the concentration and the hysteretic curve.

Tubing collars’influence on hydrodynamic behavior of annular duct flow has been investigated using Particle Image Velocity(PIV)technology.PIV has become an efficient method for complex transient flows visualization.A water flow loop with two replaceable variable cross-sections(VCS),75-90 mm and 90-110 mm,in a 129 mm inner diameter(ID)pipe was used.The whole field of the variable cross-section annulus(VCSA)was visualized,including forward-facing step(FFS),narrow annulus(NA),and backwardfacing step(BFS)flow.The VCSA ratio and Reynolds(Re)number influence on streamline distribution,velocity distribution,and turbulence intensity were discussed.Results showed that the recirculation is easier to form in BFS than FFS flow under the same condition.The VCSA ratio affects the formation of recirculation zones and the location of the reattachment point.Reynolds number mainly affects BFS flow by influencing the main velocity component-axial velocity.The turbulence intensity is relatively high in BFS than FFS flow and is larger at y/h>1.0 than y/h<1.0.Furthermore,the streamwise cohere nt structures reveal that the first two modes are predominant and represent the main characteristics of the flow by proper orthogonal decomposition(POD)method.

Following the current rapid development of the Internet of Things(IoT)and wireless condition monitoring systems,energy harvesters which use ambient energy have become a key part of achieving an energy-autonomous system.Miniature wind energy harvesters have attracted widespread attention because of their great potential of power density as well as the rich availability of wind energy in many possible areas of application.This article provides readers with a glimpse into the state-of-the-art of miniature wind energy harvesters.The crucial factors for them to achieve high working efficiency under lower operational wind speed excitation are analyzed.Various potential energy coupling mechanisms are discussed in detail.Design approaches for broadening operational wind-speed-range given a variety of energy coupling mechanisms are also presented,as observed in the literature.Performance enhancement mechanisms including hydrodynamic configuration optimization,and non-linear vibration pick-up structure are reviewed.Conclusions are drawn and the outlook for each coupling mechanisms is presented.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effects of the wenshen Jianpi recipe(温肾健脾方,WJR)on immune reconstruction and natural killer(NK)cells in immunological non-responders(INRs)of people living with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)(PLWH)and propose new therapeutic strategies for HIV.METHODS:Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment principle“invigorating Qi and warming Yang in the spleen and kidneys”,WJR combined with antiretroviral therapy(ART)therapy was performed in a randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled study of 60 patients with non-responders.The randomized process was executed by the Clinical Evaluation Center of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.Sixty patients who met the inclusion criteria obtained random numbers(that is the drug number)was randomly divided into a treatment group and a placebo control group according to a 1∶1 ratio.CD4+T cell counts and natural killer(NK)cells counts were evaluated at baseline and 12-week,24-week follow-ups.RESULTS:Four participants received random numbers and did not enter the group due to the patient’s own reasons.A total of 56 patients were enrolled,including 28 in the treatment group and 28 in the control group.CD4+T cell counts in the treatment group were significantly increased at week 24(P=0.01<0.05),which were significantly higher than those in the control group(P=0.01<0.05).Although no significant differences were observed between two groups,the CD56bri CD16-NK cell counts in the treatment group were significantly increased after duration.and CD56dim CD16+NK cell counts in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group after 24 weeks of treatment(P=0.025<0.05).As compared with the control group,the treatment group had significantly lower CD56neg CD16+NK cell counts after 24 weeks of treatment(P=0.023<0.05).CONCLUSIONS:WJR promotes the immune reconstruction of INRs and redistribution of NK cell subsets,notably decreasing CD56neg CD16+NK cell counts in INRs.However,the redistribution of NK cell subsets is not beneficial for imm
