Freeze-thaw cycles and associated geomorphology in a post-glacial environment:current glacial,paraglacial,periglacial and proglacial scenarios at pico de Orizaba volcano,Mexico

The glacial history of pico de Orizaba indicates that during the Last Glacial Maximum,its icecap covered up to~3000 m asl;due to the air temperature increasing,its main glacier has retreated to 5050 m *** retraction of the glacier has left behind an intense climatic instability that causes a high frequency of freeze-thaw cycles of great intensity;the resulting geomorphological processes are represented by the fragmentation of the bedrock that occupies the upper parts of the *** is a notable lack of studies regarding the fragmentation and erosion occurring in tropical high mountains,and the associated geomorphological risks;for this reason,as a first stage of future continuous research,this study analyzes the freezing and thawing cycles that occur above 4000 m asl,through continuous monitoring of surface ground *** results allow us to identify and characterize four zones:glacial,paraglacial,periglacial and *** was found that the paraglacial zone presents an intense drop of temperature,of up to~9℃ in only sixty *** rock fatigue and intense freeze-thaw cycles that occur in this area are responsible for the high rate of rock disintegration and represent the main factor of the constant slope dynamics that occur at the *** activity decreases,both in frequency and intensity,according to the distance to the glacier,which is where the temperature presents a certain degree of stability,until reaching the proglacial zone,where cycles are almost non-existent,and therefore there is no gelifraction *** geomorphological processes have resulted in significant alterations to the mountain slopes,which can have severe consequences in terms of risk and water.

Rice stem borer(Chilo agamemnon Bles.)is a primary insect pest of rice and is a major limiting factor to rice *** for insect-resistant crop varieties has been an economic way of integrated pest management(IpM)as it offers a viable and ecologically acceptable *** study was aimed to evaluate rice genotypes for their resistance against rice stem *** parental genotypes with twenty one F1 crosses were evaluated for genotypic variation in field *** of variance revealed significant differences for the studied traits in almost all crosses and *** addition,the mean squares of parents versus their crosses were signifi-cant for stem borer resistance and other associated ***,both general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA)variances were highly significant for all characters studied in the F1 *** on GCA,4 genotypes(Sakha101,Gz6903-3-4-2-1,Gz9577-4-1-1 and Hassawi)exhibited highly significant negative values for stem borer resistance(–0.53,–1.06,–0.18 and–0.49,respectively)indicating they are the best combiners for stem borer *** on SCA analysis,nine cross combinations showed highly significant negative effects for stem borer ***,the cross Giza178Hassawi was the best combination with significantly highest value for early *** addition,seven crosses showed highly significant negative SCA for plant height *** the other hand,for panicle length,number of primary branches/panicle,panicle weight and 1000-grain weight,seven,four,eight and six crosses showed highly significant positive SCA,*** result further revealed that the non-additive dominance genetic variance was higher than the additive variance for all evaluated traits indicating that non-additive genetic variances have a role in their *** broad-sense heritability estimates were high for all the studied *** stem borer resistance was significantly correl

A series of novel s-triazolothiadiazoles 3a-h were prepared by condensation reaction of substituted amino triazoles 1a-b with n-phethaloyl-L-amino acids 2a-d in the presence of the phosphoroxy chloride （pOC13） as an anhydrous reagent. The structure of all synthesized compounds was confirmed by IR, 1H nMR, arid 13C nMR spectroscopy.

Selective monotetrahydropyranylation of symmetrical diols using p_20_5/Si0_2 under solvent-free conditions and their depyranylation

Selective protection of one of the hydroxyl group in 1, n-symmetrical diols is achieved by p2O5/SiO2-catalyzed reaction of the diol with dihydropyran under solvent-free conditions at room temperature. This selective protection is simple and it occurred under economically cheap conditions in high yield. The deprotected diol is simply obtained by refluxing of this compound in methanol using the same catalyst without any byproduct formation or additional purifications.

pure and Disiline-doped (6,0) AIn nanotube: A Computational DFT Study on the nMR parameters

nuclear Magnetic Resonance （nMR） parameters including isotropic and anisotropic chemical shielding parameters （CSI, CSA） and electronic structures were calculated using Density Functional Theory （DFT） for Disiline-doped Aluminum nitride nanotubes （Disiline-AlnnTs）. The 27Al and 15n nuclear magnetic resonance （nMR） was calculated by means of the GIAO, CSGT, and IGAIM methods. Geometry optimizations were carried out at the B3LYp/6-311＋G＊ level of theory using the Gaussian 98 program suite. The calculated parameters indicate that the Al and n atoms located at the mouths of nanotube have the smallest and largest chemical shielding isotropic （CSI） values among those of other identical ones, respectively. In the Disiline-doped model, the nMR parameters of those nuclei directly bonded to the C and Si atoms show significant changes, while other nuclei changes are inferior.

Modeling the impacts of temperature and precipitation changes on soil CO_2 fluxes from a Switchgrass stand recently converted from cropland

Switchgrass（panicum virgatum L.） is a perennial C_4 grass native to north America and successfully adapted to diverse environmental conditions. It offers the potential to reduce soil surface carbon dioxide（CO_2） fluxes and mitigate climate change. However, information on how these CO_2 fluxes respond to changing climate is still lacking. In this study, CO_2 fluxes were monitored continuously from 2011 through 2014 using high frequency measurements from Switchgrass land seeded in 2008 on an experimental site that has been previously used for soybean（Glycine max L.） in South Dakota, USA. DAYCEnT, a process-based model, was used to simulate CO_2 fluxes. An improved methodology CpTE[Combining parameter estimation（pEST） with ＂Trial and Error＂ method] was used to calibrate DAYCEnT. The calibrated DAYCEnT model was used for simulating future CO_2 emissions based on different climate change scenarios. This study showed that：（i） the measured soil CO_2 fluxes from Switchgrass land were higher for 2012 which was a drought year, and these fluxes when simulated using DAYCEnT for long-term（2015–2070） provided a pattern of polynomial curve;（ii） the simulated CO_2 fluxes provided different patterns with temperature and precipitation changes in a long-term,（iii） the future CO_2 fluxes from Switchgrass land under different changing climate scenarios were not significantly different, therefore, it can be concluded that Switchgrass grown for longer durations could reduce changes in CO_2 fluxes from soil as a result of temperature and precipitation changes to some extent.

Cryptosporidium parvum oocyst directed assembly of gold nanoparticles and graphene oxide

Understanding the interactions between inorganic nanomaterials and biological species is an important topic for surface and environmental chemistry. In this work, we systematically studied the oocysts of Cryptosporidium pa r v u m as a model protozoan parasite and its interaction with gold nanoparticles (Aunps) and graphene oxide (GO). The as-prepared citrate-capped Aunps adsorb strongly on the oocysts leading to a vivid color change. The adsorption of the Aunps was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Heat treatment fully inhibited the color change, indicating a large change of surface chemistry of the oocysts that can be probed by the Aunps. Adding proteases such as trypsin and proteinase K partially inhibited the color change. DnA-capped Aunps, on the other hand, could not be adsorbed by the oocysts. GO was found to wrap around the oocysts forming a conformal shell reflecting the shape of the oocysts. Both citratecapped Aunps and GO compromised the membrane integrity of the oocysts as indicated by the propidium iodide staining experiment, and they may be potentially used for inactivating the oocysts. This is the first example of using nanomaterials to probe the surface of the oocysts, and it suggests the possibility of using such organisms to template the assembly of nanomaterials.

Appropriate knowledge of the parental cultivars is a pre-requisite for a successful breeding *** study characterized fruit yield,quality attributes,and molecular variations of ten tomato cultivars during three consecutive generations under greenhouse *** 86,Castle Rock,and Red Star cultivars showed the highest fruit yield(kg/plant),total phenolic compounds(TpC),and sap *** component analysis categorized the evaluated fruit yield into three groups based on their quality attributes.A robust positive correlation appeared among traits inside each group.A positive correlation was likewise noticed between the first and the second ***,a negative correlation was detected between the first,the second and the third *** profiling,using seven inter-simple sequence repeat(ISSR)primers,produced 60 loci,including 49 polymorphic *** molecular analysis also pinpointed the highest genetic similarity(0.92)between p73 and Moneymaker,while the lowest genetic similarity(0.46)was observed between Castle Rock and *** cultivars p73 and Moneymaker showed the lowest genetic distance(2.24),while the highest genetic distance(5.92)was observed between Super Marmand and peto86,on the one hand,and between Castle Rock and Moneymaker,on the other *** chemical analysis of fruit sap indicated the highest levels of TpC,total flavonoids,anthocyanin,ascorbic acid and total soluble solids in peto 86 and Castle Rock *** analysis of tomato cultivars based on morphological and molecular attributes indicated four distinct *** 86,Castle Rock,and Red star cultivars can be recommended for the tomato hybridization breeding programs in the future,with other tomato cultivars as potentially high-yielding parents.

High-dose-rate intraluminal brachytherapy during preoperative chemoradiation for locally advanced rectal cancers

AIM:To determine the feasibility and safety of high dose rate intraluminal brachytherapy(HDR-ILBT) boost during preoperative chemoradiation for rectal ***:Between 2008 and 2009,thirty-six patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(≥ T3 or n+),were treated initially with concurrent capecitabine(825 mg/m2 oral twice daily) and pelvic external beam radiotherapy(EBRT)(45 Gy in 25 fractions),then were randomized to group A;HDR-ILBT group(n = 17) to receive 5.5-7 Gy×2 to gross tumor volume(GTV) and group B;EBRT group(n = 19) to receive 5.4 Gy×3 fractions to GTV with *** patients underwent total mesorectal ***:Grade 3 acute toxicities were registered in 12 patients(70.6%) in group A and in 8(42.1%) in group *** pathologic response of T stage(ypT0) in group A was registered in 10 patients(58.8%) and in group B,3 patients(15.8%) had ypT0(p phincter preservation was reported in 6/9 patients(66.7%) in group A and in 5/10 patients(50%) in group B(p ponse was 68.15% and 66.04% in Group A and B,*** a median follow up of 18 mo,late grade 1 and 2 sequelae were registered in 3 patients(17.6%) and 4 patients(21.1%) in the groups A and B,***:HDR-ILBT was found to be effective dose escalation technique in preoperative chemoradiation for rectal cancers,with higher response rates,downstaging and with manageable acute toxicities.
