Summary What is already known about this topic?Government used mobility restrictions to help contain the first wave of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)across cities in China.The restrictions were lifted during times of non-zero incidence in response to a return to work order that went into effect on February 10,2020.What is added by this report?The effect of lifting mobility restrictions on COVID-19 death rate and incidence varied by city,with smaller increases or even reductions in cities with low community connectivity and small floating volume,and larger increases in cities with high community connectivity and large floating volume.Effects on recovery rates were similar across cities.What are the implications for public health practice?City-specific mobility restriction lifting is likely to be beneficial.Two indexes,community connectivity and floating volume,can inform the design of city-specific mobility restriction lifting policies.

Association between influenza vaccination and SARS-CoV-2 infection and its outcomes: systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:World Health Organization recommends that influenza vaccines should benefit as much of the population as possible,especially where resources are limited.Corona virus disease 2019(COVID-19)has become one of the greatest threats to health systems worldwide.The present study aimed to extend the evidence of the association between influenza vaccination and COVID-19 to promote the former.Methods:In this systematic review,four electronic databases,including the Cochrane Library,PubMed,Embase,and Web of Science,were searched for related studies published up to May 2022.All odds ratios(ORs)with 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were pooled by meta-analysis.Results:A total of 36 studies,encompassing 55,996,841 subjects,were included in this study.The meta-analysis for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection provided an OR of 0.80(95%CI:0.73–0.87).The statistically significant estimates for clinical outcomes were 0.83(95%CI:0.72–0.96)for intensive care unit admission,0.69(95%CI:0.57–0.84)for ventilator support,and 0.69(95%CI:0.52–0.93)for fatal infection,while no effect seen in hospitalization with an OR of 0.87(95%CI:0.68–1.10).Conclusion:Influenza vaccination helps limit SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe outcomes,but further studies are needed.Registration:PROSPERO,CRD42022333747.

Background:Healthcare workers(HCWs)were the priority group for influenza vaccination,in China during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 influenza seasons.However,vaccination rates in HCWs have always been low.This study investigated influenza vaccination status among Chinese HCWs and analyzed the factors driving vaccination.Methods:We provided electronic questionnaires to HCWs from January 27,2022 to February 21,2022,using the WeChat platform"Breath Circles".HCWs who received the link could also forward it to their colleagues.Binary logistic regression models were used to analyze vaccination-associated factors among HCWs.Results:Among the 1697 HCWs surveyed,vaccination coverage was 43.7%(741/1697)during the 2020/2021 influenza season,and 35.4%(600/1697)during the 2021/2022 influenza season,as of February 21,2022.Additionally,22.7%(385/1697)and 22.1%(358/1697)of HCWs reported that their workplaces implemented a free vaccination policy for all employees during the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 influenza seasons.HCWs who were required to be vaccinated according to hospital regulations,and whose hospitals implemented the free influenza vaccine policy were more likely to be vaccinated(2020/2021 and 2021/2022;P<0.05).In addition,the economic level of the HCWs'province(2021/2022,P<0.05)and the HCWs’knowledge about vaccination and willingness to get vaccinated,such as active learning about vaccines(2020/2021,P<0.05),supportive attitude toward vaccination for all HCWs(2020/2021 and 2021/2022;P<0.05),also had an impact on vaccine coverage.Conclusions:A free influenza vaccination policy and workplace required vaccination are effective in improving influenza vaccination coverage among HCWs.Influenza vaccination coverage of Chinese HCWs remained low and showed a downward trend after the COVID-19 outbreak.Further effective measures,such as advocacy campaigns,free vaccine policies,and on-site vaccination could be implemented to improve influenza vaccination coverage.

Along with the changes in China's development stage and internal and external conditions,sci-techinnovation has become the core driving force for China's high-quality economic development in the new era.From the perspective of financedriven technological progress,this paper constructs an endogenous growth DSGE model to analyze the relationship between financial resource allocation,technological progress,and economic growth.This study proves the counter-cyclicality of technological innovation in China,and finds that the allocation of financial resources between enterprises'productive investment and innovation investment can affect economic growth by changing the scale of factor inputs and technological progress rate,and that there is a see-saw relationship between these two effects,with thelatter dominant.On that basis,this paper explains the dynamic transmission mechanism among finance,technology and economy.During theeeconomic expansion period,enterprises expand their production scale,financial resources providemoreesupport to productive investment,with less support to innovation investment,thus the technological progress rate goes down;and during the economic contraction period,enterprises reduce their production scale,ffinancial resources cut support to productive investmentand turn to innovation investment,SO technologicalpl rogress rategoes up.The implications of this study on policy are as follows:when faced with new contradictions and challenges in the current development stage,China should get a grip on the new development pattern,seize new opportunities,further deepen financial reforms,optimize the financial resource allocation mechanism,encourage innovation investment,and give full play to the role ofequity markets in supporting corporate R&D and innovation.Meanwhile,coupling with prudent and moderate macro-control policies,China should provide a positive macroenvironment for corporate innovation,stimulate corporate on innovation demand,promote technological progress,andboost high-quality economic devel

Quantitative Analysis of the Effectiveness of Antigen-and Polymerase Chain Reaction-Based Combination Strategies for Containing COVID-19 Transmission in a Simulated Community

The number of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases continues to surge,overwhelming healthcare systems and causing excess mortality in many countries.Testing of infectious populations remains a key strategy to contain the COVID-19 outbreak,delay the exponential spread of the disease,and flatten the epidemic curve.Using the Omicron variant outbreak as a background,this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of testing strategies with different test combinations and frequencies,analyze the factors associated with testing effectiveness,and optimize testing strategies based on these influencing factors.We developed a stochastic,agent-based,discrete-time susceptible–latent–infectious–recovered model simulating a community to estimate the association between three levels of testing strategies and COVID-19 transmission.Antigen testing and its combination strategies were more efficient than polymerase chain reaction(PCR)-related strategies.Antigen testing also showed better performance in reducing the demand for hospital beds and intensive care unit beds.The delay in the turnaround time of test results had a more significant impact on the efficiency of the testing strategy compared to the detection limit of viral load and detection-related contacts.The main advantage of antigen testing strategies is the short turnaround time,which is also a critical factor to be optimized to improve PCR strategies.After modifying the turnaround time,the strategies with less frequent testing were comparable to daily testing.The choice of testing strategy requires consideration of containment goals,test efficacy,community prevalence,and economic factors.This study provides evidence for the selection and optimization of testing strategies in the post-pandemic era and provides guidance for optimizing healthcare resources.

In 1948,the World Health Organization(WHO)identified three dimensions of human health—physical wellbeing,mental wellbeing,and social wellbeing.^([1])Physical wellbeing is distinguished by the absence of disease as well as the active pursuit of fitness,while mental wellbeing is distinguished by a lack of depressive symptoms and the presence of calm and happy mental states.The notion of social wellbeing arose following World War II and emerged from a belief that good health not only entailed wellness of the body and mind but also required a society in which sexism,chauvinism,and extremism ceased to exist.This concept recognized individual responsibility for living in peace and contributing to the welfare of others.The definition of health as a composite of these three facets—physical wellbeing,mental wellbeing,and social wellbeing—has been adopted since then.

In this work,a multi-scale pore network with fractures is developed against experimental data in a wide range of degrees of water saturation.The pore network is constructed based on the measured microstructure information at several length scales.The gas transport is predicted by different gas transport equations(e.g.Javadpour,dusty gas model(DGM),Civan and Klinkenberg),which can consider the fundamental physics mechanisms in tight porous media,such as Knudsen diffusion and viscous flow.Then,the model is applied to simulating the gas permeability of the Callovo-Oxfordian(COx)claystone.The predicted gas permeability is basically in good agreement with the experimental data under different degrees of water saturation.Then the effects of micro-fissures are studied.The results suggest that this model can predict the gas flow in other tight porous media as well and can be applied to other fields such as carbon capture and storage.
