Two novel seco-polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols(PPAPs),hyperbenzones A(1)and B(2),were isolated from the roots of Hypericum beanii,together with one known biosynthetic congener 3.Compound 1 incorporates a 6/5/5 ring system with an unprecedented spiro[bicyclo[3.3.0]octane-3,1'-cyclohexane]-2,2'-dione motif.The structures of 1 and 2 were determined by a combination of high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy(HRESIMS),nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectroscopic analyses,gage-independent atomic orbital(GIAO)NMR chemical shift calculation with DP4+analyses,electronic circular dichroism(ECD)calculation,and X-ray diffraction analysis.A 1,2-seco retroClaisen rearrangement from a bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane PPAP precursor and following chemodivergent radical cascade cyclizations are proposed as the key steps in the biosynthetic pathway to yield compounds 1 and2.Biological investigations indicated that compounds 1 and 3 could decrease intracellular lipid accumulation in a palmitic acid-induced nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)cell model.

Spirolindemers A and B,unprecedented lindenane sesquiterpenoid dimer(1)and trimer(2)equipped with oxaspiro[4.5]decane unit,were discovered from the medicinal plant Chloranthus henryi.Their structures including absolute configurations were achieved by HRMS,NMR,ECD,X-ray diffraction analyses,and quantum chemical calculations.Biogenetically,hetero-and homo-Diels-Alder additions may dominate the formation of oxaspiro[4.5]decane and spiro[4.5]decane skeletons,respectively.Compound 1 showed anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the expression of iNOS and COX-2.

In recent years, covalent organic frameworks(COFs) are evolving as a novel kind of porous materials for catalysis and molecular separation, gas adsorption, etc. Various functional building blocks have been explored to tune the pore channels, including the pore size and structures. In this article, a new terphenyl(TP) based COF(TP-COF) was developed via a “two-in-one” strategy by using a symmetric A2B2monomer, i.e., 4,4''-diamino-2',5'-diformyl-1,1':4',1''-terphenyl(DADFTP). The pore size of TP-COF was only 0.99 nm by shortening the arm length of the DADFTP monomer. Freestanding, continuous and ultrathin COF films could be facilely prepared at the air-liquid interface through the modified Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. TP-COF films exhibited high rejection of over 90% for dyes removal.

Background:Traumatic brain injury,one of the leading causes of death in adults under 40 years of age in the world,is frequently caused by mechanical shock,resulting in diffuse neuronal damage and long-term cognitive dysfunction.Many existing TBI animal models revival with expensive equipment or special room are needed or the processes of operations are complex and not easy to be widely used.Therefore,a simpler TBI model needs to be designed.Methods:Our TBI model is an innovation of the modeling method through air guns shutting rubber bullets.A core facet is the application of our designed rubber bullet impact device.It could focus the hitting power to the fixed site of the brain,thus triggering a mild closed head injury.Moreover,the degree of damage can be adjusted by the times of shots.Results:Our model induced blood-brain barrier leakage and diffused neuronal damage.Besides,it led to an increased level of Tau phosphorylation and resulted in cognitive dysfunction within several weeks post-injury.Conclusion:Our TBI model is not only simple and time-saving but also can simulate mild brain injuries in clinical.It is suitable for exploring pathobiological mechanisms as well as a screening of potential therapies for TBI.

Mood disorders/psychosis have been associated with dysfunctions in the default mode network(DMN).However,the relative contributions of DMN regions to state and trait disturbances in pediatric bipolar disorder(PBD)remain unclear.The aim of this study was to investigate the possible mechanisms of PBD through brain imaging and explore the influence of psychotic symptoms on functional alterations in PBD patients.Twenty-nine psychotic and 26 non-psychotic PBD patients,as well as 19 age-and sex-matched healthy controls underwent a restingstate functional MRI scan and the data were analyzed by independent component analysis.The DMN component from the fMRI data was extracted for each participant.Spearman's rank correlation analysis was performed between aberrant connectivity and clinical measurements.The results demonstrated that psychotic PBD was characterized by aberrant DMN connectivity in the anterior cingulate cortex/medial prefrontal cortex,bilateral caudate nucleus,bilateral angular gyri,and left middle temporal gyrus,while non-psychotic PBD was not,suggesting further impairment with the development of psychosis.In summary,we demonstrated unique impairment in DMN functional connectivity in the psychotic PBD group.These specific neuroanatomical abnormalities may shed light on the underlying pathophysiology and presentation of PBD.

As ecologically fragile areas,coastal zones are affected by both anthropogenic activities and climate change.However,the impacts of these factors on large nearshore mammals,such as Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins(IPHDs,Sousa chinensis),are poorly understood.Here,modeling revealed that the suitable habitats of IPHDs are affected mainly by the sea surface temperature(SST),and the habitat suitability decreases as the distance to the nearest coastline increases.In addition,anthropogenic activities involving demersal fishing,contamination and shipping have narrowed IPHD habitats and reduced the habitat suitability.We found that climate change will further narrow suitable habitats located farther than 7 km from coastlines and trigger habitat losses in the eastern Taiwan Strait by 2090-2100 under the Representative Concentration Pathway(RCP)8.5 scenario.The projected decreases in habitat suitability and area emphasize the urgency of establishing connected marine protected areas(MPAs)while considering climate change,intergovernmental cooperation,and public involvement.

Two-dimensional(2D)molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))holds great potential for various applications such as electronic devices,catalysis,lubrication,anti-corrosion and so on.Thermal evaporation is a versatile thin film deposition technique,however,the conventional thermal evaporation techniques face challenges in producing uniform thin films of MoS_(2) due to its high melting temperature of 1375℃.As a result,only thick and rough MoS_(2) films can be obtained using these methods.To address this issue,we have designed a vacuum thermal evaporation system specifically for large-scale preparation of MoS_(2) thin films.By using K2MoS4 as the precursor,we achieved reliable deposition of uniform polycrystalline MoS_(2) thin films with a size of 50 mm×50 mm and controllable thickness ranging from 0.8 to 2.4 nm.This approach also allows for patterned deposition of MoS_(2) using shadow masks and sequential deposition of MoS_(2) and tungsten disulfide(WS_(2)),similar to conventional thermal evaporation techniques.Moreover,we have demonstrated the potential applications of the obtained MoS_(2) thin films in field effect transistors(FETs),memristors and electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).

Background Pediatric bipolar disorder(PBD)has been proven to be related to abnormal brain structural connectivity,but how the abnormalities in PBD correlate with gene expression is debated.Objective This study aims at identification of cell-type-specific gene modules based on cortical structural differences in PBD.Methods Morphometric similarity networks(MSN)were computed as a marker of interareal cortical connectivity based on MRI data from 102 participants(59 patients and 43 controls).Partial least squares(PLS)regression was used to calculate MSN differences related to transcriptomic data in AHBA.The biological processes and cortical cell types associated with this gene expression profile were determined by gene enrichment tools.Results MSN analysis results demonstrated differences of cortical structure between individuals diagnosed with PBD and healthy control participants.MSN differences were spatially correlated with the PBD-related weighted genes.The weighted genes were enriched for“trans-synaptic signaling”and“regulation of ion transport”,and showed significant specific expression in excitatory and inhibitory neurons.Conclusions This study identified the genes that contributed to structural network aberrations in PBD.It was found that transcriptional changes of excitatory and inhibitory neurons might be associated with abnormal brain structural connectivity in PBD.

Research on ad-hoc network connectivity has mainly focused on asymptotic results in the number of nodes in the network. For a one-dimensional ad-hoc network G1, assuming all the nodes are independently uniform distributed in a closed interval [0, Z]（z ∈ R^＋）, we derive a generic formula for the probability that the network is connected. The finite connected ad-hoc networks is analyzed. And we separately suggest necessary conditions to make the ad-hoc network to be connected in one and two dimensional cases, facing possible failed nodes （f-nodes）. Based on the necessary condition and unit-disk assumption for the node transmission, we prove that the nodes of the connected two-dimensional ad-hoc networks （G2） can be divided into at most five different groups. For an f-node no in either of the five groups, we derive a close formula for the probability that there is at least one route between a pair of nodes in G2 -- {no}.

Exosomes are small extracellular vesicles that contain a potpourri of nucleic acids,including microRNAs(miRNAs).Importantly,exosomes and these miRNAs are actively secreted from multiple cell populations and play a critical role in intercellular communication.The exosomal miRNA profile reflects the cellular pathophysiological status and modulates multiple biological processes.Accumulating evidence indicates that exosomes and miRNAs are biomarkers for disease diagnosis and may have therapeutic targets.Research studies on exosomal miRNAs have brought new insights into understanding autoimmune diseases.This article summarizes the detection methodologies and updates the potential applications of exosomal miRNAs in autoimmune diseases.
