Evaluating the influence of sarcopenia and myosteatosis on clinical outcomes in gastric cancer patients undergoing immune checkpoint inhibitor

BACKGROUND The development and progression of gastric cancer(GC)are closely linked to the nutritional status of *** immunotherapy has been demonstrated to be clinically effective,the relationships of sarcopenia and myosteatosis with the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)in patients with gastric cancer remain to be *** We performed a retrospective study of patients who were undergoing immuno-therapy for *** the evaluation of sarcopenia,the optimal cut-off value for the skeletal muscle index was established using receiver operating characteristic analysis of data obtained from pre-treatment computed tomography images at the L3 vertebral *** was defined using the mean skeletal muscle density(SMD),with a threshold value of<41 Hounsfield units(HU)for patients with a body mass index(BMI)<25 kg/m^(2)and<33 HU for those with a BMI≥25 kg/m^(2).The log-rank test was used to compare progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS),and a Cox proportional hazard model was used to identify prognostic *** were developed to predict the PFS and OS of patients on the basis of the results of multivariate *** We studied 115 patients who were undergoing ICI therapy for GC,of whom 27.4%had sarcopenia and 29.8%had *** with sarcopenia or myosteatosis had significantly shorter PFS and OS than those without these ***,both sarcopenia and myosteatosis were found to be independent predictors of PFS and OS in patients with GC administering an *** prediction models created for PFS and OS were associated with C-indexes of 0.758 and 0.781,*** The presence of sarcopenia or myosteatosis is a reliable predictor of the clinical outcomes of patients with GC who are undergoing treatment with an ICI.

Dynamic Crosslinked Phosphorescent Poly(vinyl alcohol)-Terpyridine Films with Enhanced Mechanical Properties and Tunable Shape Memory

Achieving versatile room temperature phosphorescence （RTP） materials, especially with tunable mechanical properties and shape memory is attractive and essential but rarely reported. Here, a strategy was reported to realize multi-functional RTP films with multicolor fluorescence, ultralong afterglow, adjustable mechanical properties, and shape memory through the synergistic dynamic interaction of lanthanide（LnⅢ）-terpyridine coordination, borate ester bonds, and hydrogen bondings in a poly（vinyl alcohol）(PVA) matrix. By varying the amount of borax,the mechanical properties of the films could be finely controlled due to the change of crosslinking degree of dynamic borate ester bonds in *** assembly and disassembly of borate ester bonds upon the trigger of borax and acid were applied as reversible linkage to achieve programmable shape memory behavior. In addition, the films displayed both fascinating multicolor fluorescence and ultralong afterglow characteristics due to the presence of Ln III doping and confinement of terpyridine in PVA. This study provides a new avenue to impart modulable mechanical strength and shape memory to RTP materials.

Red-emitting at about 640nm from self-assembled In0.55Al0.45As/Al0.5Ga0.5As quantum dots grown on GaAs substrate by molecular beam epitaxy are demonstrated.A doublepeak structure of photoluminescence(PL)spectra from quantum dots was observed,and a bimodal distribution of dot sizes was also confirmed by an atomic force micrograph(AFM)image for uncapped *** the temperature and excitation intensity dependence of PL spectra,it is found that the double-peak structure of PL spectra from quantum dots is strongly correlated to the two predominant quantum dot *** into account the quantum-size effect on the peak energy,it is proposed that the high(low)energy peak results from a smaller(larger)dot family,and this result is identical to the statistical distribution of dot lateral size from the AFM image.

Effect of oxide inclusions on MnS precipitates and tensile mechanical property of high-strength low-alloy steel

The key role of oxide inclusions on the microstructure and mechanical property of a high-strength low-alloy steel was *** field emission scanning electron microscope equipped with energy-dispersive spectrometry was used to characterize MnS *** inclusions play an important role in the shape control of MnS *** oxides fovored to decrease the size and the aspect ratio of MnS *** less oxide inclusions in the steel,approximately over 16.7%MnS precipitates were with aspect ratio a>5 and pure MnS precipitates accounted for 75.9%in ***,with more oxide inclusions in the steel,only 7.4%MnS precipitates were with a>5 and pure MnS precipitates accounted for 60.1%in *** of MnS by oxide inclusions improved the strength and inhibited the *** oxide inclusions in the steel increased the yield strength and tensile strength of the steel in both longitudinal and transverse directions,and lowered the anisotropy of the mechanical property.

Global-local combined features to detect pain intensity from facial expression images with attention mechanism

The estimation of pain intensity is critical for medical diagnosis and treatment of *** the development of image monitoring technology and artificial intelligence,automatic pain assessment based on facial expression and behavioral analysis shows a potential value in clinical *** paper reports a framework of convolutional neural network with global and local attention mechanism(GLA-CNN)for the effective detection of pain intensity at four-level thresholds using facial expression ***-CNN includes two modules,namely global attention network(GANet)and local attention network(LANet).LANet is responsible for extracting representative local patch features of faces,while GANet extracts whole facial features to compensate for the ignored correlative features between *** the end,the global correlational and local subtle features are fused for the final estimation of pain *** under the UNBC-McMaster Shoulder Pain database demonstrate that GLA-CNN outperforms other state-of-the-art ***,a visualization analysis is conducted to present the feature map of GLA-CNN,intuitively showing that it can extract not only local pain features but also global correlative facial *** study demonstrates that pain assessment based on facial expression is a non-invasive and feasible method,and can be employed as an auxiliary pain assessment tool in clinical practice.

Cutting tools are known as the“productivity”of the manufacturing industry,which affects the production efficiency and quality of the workpiece,and has become the focus of research and attention in academia and ***,traditional cutting tools often suffer from adhesion or wear during the cutting process,which considerably reduces the cutting efficiency and service life of the tools,and makes it difficult to meet current production *** solve the above problems,scholars have introduced bionics into the tool’s design,applying the microscopic structure of the biological surface to the tool surface to alleviate the tool’s *** paper mainly summarizes the research progress of bionic textured cutting ***,categorize whether the bionic texture design is inspired by a single organism or multiple ***,it is discussed that the non-smooth surface of the biological surface has five characteristics:hydrophilic lubricity,wear resistance,drag reduction and hydrophobicity,anti-adhesion,and arrangement,and the non-smooth structure of these different characteristics are applied to the surface of the tool is designed with bionic ***,the cutting performance of bionic textured cutting tools is *** anti-friction and wear-resisting mechanism of bionic textured cutting tools is ***,some pending problems and perspectives have been proposed to provide new inspirations for the design of bionic textured cutting tools.

Establishment of the benchmarking tool for evaluating the operation of biorepositories for pathogenic resource using a modified Delphi method

In recent years, as the infectious diseases caused by pathogens such as novel coronavirus and mpox (formerly called monkeypox) spread globally, the significance of identification, preservation, and sharing of pathogenic resources become prominent. Along with the rapid development of biorepositories, it is imperative to evaluate their operation in a scientific manner. By using the literature review and modified Delphi method, this study develops a benchmarking tool for the comprehensive evaluation of the operation of biorepositories for pathogenic resources. The effective response rates of both rounds of expert surveys were 100 %. The authority coefficients (Cr) were 0.82 and 0.85, respectively, manifesting the reliability of consultation results. In the second-round survey, the Kendall’s coefficient of concordance (Kendall’s W) of all indicators ranged from 0.09 to 0.31 (P weights of the four primary indicators allocated through the ranksum ratio method, namely organizational structure, management requirements, biobanking capacity, and sharing capacity, were 30.50 %, 30.08 %, 25.45 %, and 13.97 %, respectively. The benchmarking tool established in this study provides references for the comprehensive evaluation of the operation and puts forward advice for the sustainable development of biorepositories for pathogenic resources.

Intestinal failure-associated liver disease(IFALD)is a common complication of long-term parenteral nutrition that is associated with significant morbidity and *** is mainly characterized by cholestasis in children and steatohepatitis in ***,there is no effective approach to prevent or reverse the *** cell death(RCD)represents a fundamental biological paradigm that determines the outcome of a variety of liver *** cell death is reclassified into several types,based on the mechanisms and morphological *** evidence has linked different modes of RCD,such as apoptosis,necroptosis,ferroptosis,and pyroptosis to the pathogenesis of liver *** studies have shown that different modes of RCD are present in animal models and patients with *** the pathogenic roles of cell death may help uncover the underlying mechanisms and develop novel therapeutic strategies in *** this review,we discuss the current knowledge on how RCD may link to the pathogenesis of *** highlight examples of cell death-targeted interventions aiming to attenuate the disease,and provide perspectives for future basic and translational research in the field.

Using deep neural networks coupled with principal component analysis for ore production forecasting at open-pit mines

Ore production is usually affected by multiple influencing inputs at open-pit ***,the complex nonlinear relationships between these inputs and ore production remain *** becomes even more challenging when training data(*** haulage information and weather conditions)are *** machine learning(ML)algorithms,deep neural network(DNN)is a superior method for processing nonlinear and massive data by adjusting the amount of neurons and hidden *** study adopted DNN to forecast ore production using truck haulage information and weather conditions at open-pit mines as training *** the prediction models were built,principal component analysis(PCA)was employed to reduce the data dimensionality and eliminate the multicollinearity among highly correlated input *** verify the superiority of DNN,three ANNs containing only one hidden layer and six traditional ML models were established as benchmark *** DNN model with multiple hidden layers performed better than the ANN models with a single hidden *** DNN model outperformed the extensively applied benchmark models in predicting ore *** can provide engineers and researchers with an accurate method to forecast ore production,which helps make sound budgetary decisions and mine planning at open-pit mines.

A disk I/O optimized system for concurrent graph processing jobs

In order to analyze and process the large graphs with high cost efficiency,researchers have developed a number of out-of-core graph processing systems in recent years based on just one commodity *** the other hand,with the rapidly growing need of analyzing graphs in the real-world,graph processing systems have to efficiently handle massive concurrent graph processing(CGP)***,due to the inherent design for single graph processing job,existing out-of-core graph processing systems usually incur unnecessary data accesses and severe competition of I/O bandwidth when handling the CGP *** this paper,we propose GraphCP,a disk I/O optimized out-of-core graph processing system that efficiently supports the processing of CGP *** proposes a benefit-aware sharing execution model to share the I/O access and processing of graph data among the CGP jobs and adaptively schedule the graph data loading based on the states of vertices,which efficiently overcomes above challenges faced by existing out-of-core graph processing ***,GraphCP adopts a dependency-based future-vertex updating model so as to reduce disk I/Os in the future *** addition,GraphCP organizes the graph data with a Source-Sorted Sub-Block graph representation for better processing capacity and I/O access *** evaluation results show that GraphCP is 20.5×and 8.9×faster than two out-of-core graph processing systems GridGraph and GraphZ,and 3.5×and 1.7×faster than two state-of-art concurrent graph processing systems Seraph and GraphSO.
