Biodegradable Polypeptide-based Vesicles with Intrinsic Blue Fluorescence for Antibacterial Visualization

Fluorescence imaging has been an indispensable tool to provide dynamic information about the localization and quantity of ***,due to the intrinsic hollow structure and modularized biofunctionalities,polymer vesicles have been widely applied in biomedical ***,most polymer vesicles are embedded with organic fluorophores for fluorescence imaging,which have certain drawbacks such as leakage and possible ***,we present a biodegradable polypeptide-based vesicle with intrinsic blue fluorescence without introducing any fluorophore for real-time visualization of antibacterial *** modular design to integrate multiple functional fragments,poly(ε-caprolactone)-block-poly(tryptophan)-block-poly(lysine-stat-phenylalanine)[PCL25-b-PTrp2-b-P(Lys13-statPhe4)]was synthesized,where PCL chains form the hydrophobic membrane,P(Lys-stat-Phe)and PTrp provide intrinsic fluorescence and broadspectrum antibacterial *** is noteworthy that the fluorescence emission was shifted from invisible ultraviolet range of amino acids to visible range(emission maximum at 436 nm),which makes it possible to visualize the antibacterial *** addition,through utilizing the intrinsic fluorescence of vesicles,confocal fluorescent imaging of vesicles with bacteria validated the specific adhesion of vesicle towards bacteria,and the bacterial death through membrane ***,we provided a novel approach to developing biodegradable fluorescent polypeptide-based vesicles for real-time visualization of antibacterial process.

Association between Vitamin D Insufficiency and the Risk for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnant Chinese Women

Objective To investigate the association between vitamin D deficiency and risk of gestational diabetes rnellitus （GDM） in pregnant Chinese women. Methods A nested case-control study was conducted. Clinical and biochemical data were analyzed for 200 subjects with GDM and 200 subjects with normal glucose tolerance （NGT）. Results The median （interquartile range） serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D （25OHD） levels were 22.39 （17.67, 29.38） and 25.86 （19.09, 34.88） nmol/L in the GDM and NGT groups, respectively. Rates of 25OHD deficiency or insufficiency were significantly higher in the GDM group than in the NGT group. Subjects with 25OHD levels 〈25 nmol/L had a 1.g-fold higher risk of GDM compared with subjects with higher vitamin D levels. In the GDM group, serum 25OHD was independently associated with HbAlc and insulin resistance after adjusting for confounding factors. In the NGT group, serum 25OHD was independently associated with fasting plasma glucose and systolic blood pressure after adjusting for maternal age and other confounding factors. Conclusion 2SOHD insufficiency is very common in Chinese women. Low 25OHD status may be associated with insulin resistance and act as a risk factor for GDM.

Single-particle detection of cholesterol based on the host-guest recognition induced plasmon resonance energy transfer

Plasmon resonance energy transfer(PRET) occurs between the plasmonic nanoparticles(NPs) and organic dyes forming donor-acceptor pairs, which has great potential in quantitative analytical chemistry because of its excellent sensitivity under dark-field microscopy(DFM). Herein, we introduce supramolecular β-cyclodextrin(β-CD) to design a host-guest recognition plasmonic nano-structure modified gold nanoparticles(GNPs), while GNPs and rhodamine molecule(RB) act as the donor and acceptor, respectively. In the presence of the target cholesterol, due to the stronger binding of cholesterol with β-CD, RB molecules are released, inducing the inhibition of PRET, as well as the increase of the scattering intensity of *** proposed strategy achieves a linear range from 0.02 μmol/L to 2.0 μmol/L for cholesterol detection,and reaches a limit of detection(LOD) of 6.7 nmol/L. This host-guest recognition strategy can easily integrate receptor-donor pair into one nanoparticle, which simplifies the construction of the PRET platform,and further provides an effective approach for PRET-based analytical applications. Afterwards, the proposed PRET strategy was successfully applied for the detection of cholesterol in serum samples with high sensitivity and specificity. The proposed method provides an effective clinically potential means for the detection of cholesterol and other disease-related biomarkers.

TIMP-1 Promotes Expression of MCP-1 and Macrophage Migration by Inducing Fli-1 in Experimental Liver Fibrosis

Analysis of Spherical Polyelectrolyte Brushes by Small Angle X-ray Scattering

Spherical polyelectrolyte brushes （SPBs） with PS core and poly（acrylic acid）（PAA） brushes were prepared and analyzed by SAXS in this article. A radial electron density profile of SPB was brought up, which fits well with the SAXS result and shows a core-shell structure. The effect of pH on SPB form was represented by SAXS and it proves that the chains of SPB will stretch in response to increased pH owning to the increased electrostatic repulsion. SPBs immobilized with magnetic nanoparticles or bovine serum albumin （BSA） were prepared and analyzed by SAXS as well. SAXS could characterize the changes of electron density inside brushes of SPBs due to the immobilization of magnetic nanoparticles or BSA. This provides significant supports for further application of immobilized metal nanoparticles or proteins.

Left atrial area index predicts adverse cardiovascular events in patients with unstable angina pectoris

Background The left atrial size has been considered as a useful marker of adverse cardiovascular outcomes. However, it is not well known whether left atrial area index （LAAI） has predictive value for prognosis in patients with unstable angina pectoris （UAP）. This study was aimed to assess the association between LAAI and outcomes in UAP patients. Methods We enrolled a total of 391 in-hospital patients diag- nosed as UAP. Clinical and echocardiographic data at baseline were collected. The patients were followed for the development of ad- verse cardiovascular （CV） events, including hospital readmission for angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction （AMI）, congestive heart failure （CHF）, stroke and all-cause mortality. Results During a mean follow-up time of 26.3±8.6 months, 98 adverse CV events occurred （84 hospital readmission for angina pectoris, four AMI, four CHF, one stroke and five all-cause mortality）. In a multivariate Cox model, LAAI [OR： 1.140, 95% CI： 1.01±1.279, P = 0.026], diastolic blood pressure （OR： 0.976, 95% CI： 0.956-0.996, P = 0.020） and pulse pressure （OR 1.020, 95% CI： 1.007-1.034, P = 0.004） were independent predictors for adverse CV events in UAP patients. Conclusions LAAI is a predictor of adverse CV events independent of clinical and other echocardiographic parameters in UAP patients.

Using a process-oriented methodology to precisely evaluate temperature suitability for potato growth in China using GIS

A process-oriented methodology to conduct precise evaluation temporally and spatially on temperature suitability for potato growth was applied in China. Arable lands in China were gridded with 1 km×1 km geographic units, and potential potato phenology in each unit was automatically identified in terms of the potato planting initial temperature and effective accu- mulated temperature. A temperature thermal response coefficient model was used to compute a temperature suitability value for each day of potato phenology in each geographic unit. In addition, five temperature suitability ranking methods were applied to define suitable areas：（1） upper fourth quantile, （2） median, （3） expected value＋1/4 standard deviation, （4） expected value＋1/2 standard deviation, （5） expected value＋1 standard deviation. A validation indicator was innovated to test the effectiveness of the five ranking methods. The results showed that from a strict degree point of view, the five methods sequence was as follows： 1=3〉4〉2〉5, with a and c determined as the two best ranking methods. For methods 1 and 3, the suitable potato growing area was 1 of 57.76× 10^4 km2. In addition, the suitable, areas were spatially coincident with the main potato producing counties. The study output technically supports the proposal from China＇s government that there is a large potential area to grow winter-ploughed potato in South China because the potential suitable area for growing potato is approximately 2×10^7 ha. In southeast Heilongjiang and east Jilin, where it is hilly and mountainous, there are still some potentially suitable areas for potato growing accounting for nearly 2.32×10^6 ha. The authors suggest to optimize the agricultural regionalization and layout in China and to adjust the cropping pattern structure.

Mechanisms of strength-plasticity enhancement and stress-induced phase transition in a medium-carbon low-alloy steel

A medium-carbon low-alloy steel with designed chemical composition was *** steel exhibits an excellent product of strength and elongation value of 31,832 MPa%through quenching and partitioning treatment,with a tensile strength of 1413 MPa and elongation of 22%.X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy characterizations confirm that the retained austenite in the specimens undergoes stress-induced phase transformation to the martensite and hexagonal phases,namely the transformation-induced plasticity(TRIP)effect is *** TRIP effect,triggered by the stress-induced phase transition of retained austenite,is responsible for the excellent mechanical properties obtained in the *** further investigating the stress-induced phase transition mechanism,thermodynamic methods are *** free energy of face-centered cubic-Fe,ε-Fe,ω-Fe and body-centered cubic-Fe associated with the stress-induced phase transition was calculated using molecular dynamics simulations,and a calculation method of strain energy in thermodynamic units for the stress-induced martensitic transformation is *** final results reveal the process and thermodynamic mechanism of stress-induced martensitic transformation in medium-carbon steels,in which the hexagonal phase can participate in the process as an intermediate product.

Diverse and abundant microfossils, such as palynomorphs, algae and Ostracoda, were collected from lower Cretaceous strata of Lishu depression, located in southeastern Songliao basin, and were identified and classified in order to provide relevant, detailed records for paleoclimate research. The early Creta- ceous vegetation and climate of southeastern Songliao basin have been inferred from the analysis of palynomorph genera, algae and Ostracoda of the LSI and SW110 wells. The lower Cretaceous strata include, in ascending stratigraphic order, the Shahezi, Yingcheng and Denglouku formations. Palyno- logical assemblages for each formation, based on biostratigraphic and statistical analyses, provide an assessment of their longitudinal variations. During deposition of the Shahezi Formation, the climate was mid-subtropical. Vegetation consisted of coniferous forest and herbage. During deposition of the Ying- cheng Formation, the climate was south Asian tropical. Vegetation consisted mainly of coniferous forest and herbal shrub. In addition, fresh and saline non-marine water dominated the lacustrine setting during deposition of these formations. Deposition of the Denglouku Formation, however, occurred under a hot and dry tropical climate. The vegetation was mostly coniferous forest and lake waters became saline. Palaeoclimate variation is correlated by the lake level change and the development of sedimentary facies. Palaeoclimate contribute to the formation of hydrocarbon source rocks and reservoir.
