Four previously unreported diarylheptanoids(1a/1b-2a/2b),one undescribed sesquiterpenoid(8),one new diterpenoid(12),and twelve known analogs were isolated from the fruits of Alpinia *** structural elucidation of these compounds was achieved through a comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data,single-crystal X-ray diffraction,electronic circular dichroism(ECD),and modified Mosher's *** mixtures(1a/1b,2a/2b,3a/3b,4a/4b,and 5a/5b)were separated on a chiral column using acetonitrile-water mixtures as *** them,compounds 3a/3b and 4a/4b were isolated as optically pure enantiomers in the initial chiral ***,most of the isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory effects against the production of nitric oxide(NO)and interleukin-6(IL-6)in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced RAW264.7 ***,2 and 4 showed significant inhibitory activities against NO production with IC50 values of 33.65 and 9.88μmol·L^(-1)(hydrocortisone:IC_(50)34.26μmol·L^(-1)),***,they also partially reduced the secretion of IL-6.

Accurate theoretical predictions of desired properties of materials play an important role in materials research and *** learning(ML)can accelerate the materials design by building a model from input *** complex datasets,such as those of crystalline compounds,a vital issue is how to construct low-dimensional representations for input crystal structures with chemical *** this work,we introduce an algebraic topology-based method,called atom-specific persistent homology(ASPH),as a unique representation of crystal *** ASPH can capture both pairwise and many-body interactions and reveal the topology-property relationship of a group of atoms at various *** with composition-based attributes,ASPH-based ML model provides a highly accurate prediction of the formation energy calculated by density functional theory(DFT).After training with more than 30,000 different structure types and compositions,our model achieves a mean absolute error of 61 meV/atom in cross-validation,which outperforms previous work such as Voronoi tessellations and Coulomb matrix method using the same ML algorithm and *** results indicate that the proposed topology-based method provides a powerful computational tool for predicting materials properties compared to previous works.

The 3 P F2 superfluidity of neutron and proton is investigated in isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach and the BCS theory by adopting the Argonne V14 and the Argonne V18 nucleonnucleon interactions. We find that pairing gaps in the 3PF2 channel predicted by adopting the AV14 interaction are much larger than those by the AV18 interaction. As the isospin-asymmetry increases, the neutron 3 pF2 superfluidity is found to increase rapidly, whereas the proton one turns out to decrease and may even vanish at high enough asymmetries. As a consequence, the neutron 3pF2 superfluidity is much stronger than the proton one at high asymmetries and it predominates over the proton one in dense neutron-rich matter.

Fungal corneal ulcer is one of the leading causes of corneal blindness in developing *** scars such as leukoplakia are formed due to inflammation,oxidative stress and non-directed repair,which seriously affect the patients'subsequent visual and life *** this study,drawing inspiration from the oriented structure of collagen fibers within the corneal stroma,we first proposed the directional arrangement of CuTA-CMHT hydrogel system at micro and macro scales based on the 3D printing extrusion method combined with secondary *** played an antifungal role and induced oriented repair in therapy of fungal corneal *** results showed that it effectively inhibited Candida albicans,Aspergillus Niger,Fusarium sapropelum,which mainly affects TNF,NF-kappa B,and HIF-1 signaling pathways,achieving effective antifungal *** importantly,the fibroblasts interacted with extracellular matrix(ECM)of corneal stroma through formation of focal adhesions,promoted the proliferation and directional migration of cells in vitro,induced the directional alignment of collagen fibers and corneal stromal orthogonally oriented repair in *** process is mainly associated with MYLK,MYL9,and ITGA3 ***,the downregulation the growth factors TGF-βand PDGF-βinhibits myofibroblast development and reduces scar-type ECM production,thereby reducing corneal *** also activates the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway,promoting corneal *** conclusion,the oriented CuTA-CMHT hydrogel system mimics the orthogonal arrangement of collagen fibers,inhibits inflammation,eliminates reactive oxygen species,and reduces corneal leukoplakia,which is of great significance in the treatment of fungal corneal ulcer and is expected to write a new chapter in corneal tissue engineering.

Transforming growth factor-β1 （TGF-β1） has been identified as one of the most important fibrogenic cytokines associated with Peyronie＇s disease （PD）. The mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 7 （SMAD7） is an inhibitory Smad protein that blocks TGF-J3 signaling pathway. The aim of this study was to examine the anti-fibrotic effect of the SMAD7 gene in primary fibroblasts derived from human PD plaques. PD fibroblasts were pretreated with the SMAD7 gene and then stimulated with TGF-β1. Treated fibroblasts were used for Western blotting, fluorescent immunocytochemistry, hydroxyproline determination, and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate nick-end labeling assays. Overexpression of the SMAD7 gene inhibited TGF-β1-induced phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of SMAD2 and SMAD3, transdifferentiation of fibroblasts into myofibroblasts, and quashed TGF-β1-induced production of extracellular matrix protein and hydroxyproline. Overexpression of the SMAD7 gene decreased the expression of cyclin D1 （a positive cell cycle regulator） and induced the expression of poly （ADP-ribose） polymerase 1, which is known to terminate Smad-mediated transcription, in PD fibroblasts. These findings suggest that the blocking of the TGF-β pathway by use of SMAD7 may be a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of PD.

Phosphorus speciation and colloidal phosphorus responses to short-term cessation of fertilization in a lime concretion black soil

Long-term excessive application of mineral fertilizer has led to soil acidification and phosphorus(P) accumulation, increasing the risk of P loss and environmental pollution, and cessation of fertilization is widely considered as a cost-effective management strategy to relieve this situation;however, how such cessation influences P speciation and concentrations in a bulk soil and colloidal fractions and whether decreasing P concentration might maintain soil fertility remain unclear. In this study, the effects of long-term fertilization(ca. 40 years) and short-term cessation of fertilization(ca. 16 months) on inorganic, organic,and colloidal P in lime concretion black soil were investigated using P sequential fractionation and31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. After long-term fertilization, available P, dicalcium phosphate, iron-bound P, orthophosphate monoesters, and orthophosphate diesters increased significantly, but soil p H decreased by ca. 2.8 units, indicating that long-term fertilization caused soil acidification and P accumulation and changed P speciation markedly. In contrast, short-term fertilization cessation increased soil p H by ca. 0.8 units and slightly reduced available and inorganic P. Available P after fertilization cessation was 22.9–29.8 mg kg-1, which was still sufficient to satisfy crop growth requirements. Additionally, fertilization cessation increased the proportions of fine colloids(100–450 nm, including nontronite and some amorphous iron oxides) and drove a significant release of iron/aluminum oxide nanoparticles(1–100 nm) and associated P with orthophosphate and pyrophosphate species. In summary, short-term fertilization cessation effectively alleviated soil acidification and inorganic P accumulation, while concomitantly maintaining soil P fertility and improving the potential mobilization of P associated with microparticles.

Remediation of Ni^(2+)-contaminated water using iron powder and steel manufacturing byproducts

Steel manufacturing byproducts and commercial iron powders were tested in the treatment of Ni^2＋-contaminated water. Ni^2＋ is a priority pollutant of some soils and groundwater. The use of zero-valent iron, which can reduce Ni^2＋ to its neural form appears to be an alternative approach for the remediation of Ni^2＋-contaminated sites. Our experimental data show that the removal efficiencies of Ni^2＋ were 95.15% and 94.68% at a metal to solution ratio of 20 g/L for commercial iron powders and the steel manufacturing byproducts in 60 min at room temperature, respectively. The removal efficiency reached 98.20% when the metal to solution ratio was 40 g/L for commercial iron powders. Furthermore, we found that the removal efficiency was also largely affected by other factors such as the pHs of the treated water, the length of time for the metal to be in contact with the Ni^2＋-contaminated water, initial concentrations of metal solutions, particle sizes and the amount of iron powders. Surprisingly, the reaction temperature appeared to have little effect on the removal efficiency. Our study opens the way to further optimize the reaction conditions of in situ remediation of Ni^2＋ or other heavy metals on contaminated sites.
