The World Health Organization(WHO)has declared the outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus,known as 2019-nCoV,a pandemic,as the coronavirus has now infected over 2.6 million people globally and caused more than 185,000 fatalities as of April 23,*** disease 2019(COVID-19)causes a respiratory illness with symptoms such as dry cough,fever,sudden loss of smell,and,in more severe cases,difficulty *** date,there is no specific vaccine or treatment proven effective against this viral *** and accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 is thus critical to curbing its spread and improving health *** transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)is commonly used to detect the presence of *** techniques,such as recombinase polymerase amplification(RPA),loopmediated isothermal amplification(LAMP),clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR),and microfluidics,have allowed better disease ***,as part of the effort to expand screening capacity,we review advances and challenges in the rapid detection of COVID-19 by targeting nucleic acids,antigens,or *** also summarize potential treatments and vaccines against COVID-19 and discuss ongoing clinical trials of interventions to reduce viral progression.

最小体积覆盖椭球问题是一个基本的凸优化问题.本文给出最小体积覆盖椭球问题的新性质—对算法依坐标轴光滑性,据此提出一种坐标轴下降算法来计算最小体积覆盖椭球并证明该算法的收敛速度是全局次线性收敛且局部线性收敛的.从计算时间角度来看,该算法优于经典的Frank-Wolfe算法,并且这种优势对于高维数据集尤为明显.更进一步,我们发现该算法在计算最小体积覆盖椭球问题方面比随机坐标轴下降算法更有优势.最后通过大规模数值算例测试来验证我们得到的理论结果.

This review compares the different types of membrane processes for air *** main categories of membrane-based dehumidification are identified–membrane contactors using porous membranes with concentrated liquid desiccants,separative membranes using dense membrane morphology with a pressure gradient to drive the separation of moisture from air,and adsorptive membranes using nanofibrous membranes which adsorb and capture moisture to realise *** upon the importance of dehumidification and humidity control for urban sustainability and energy efficacy,this review critically analyses and recognizes the three unique categories of membrane-based air dehumidification ***,the discussion is broken into three sections-one for each category-discriminating in terms of the driving force,membrane structure and properties,and its performance *** will notice that despite having the same objective to dehumidify air,the polymers used amongst each category differs to suit the operating requirements and optimize dehumidification *** the end of each section,a performance table or summary of dehumidifying membranes in its class is *** final section concludes with a comparative review of the three categories on membrane-based air dehumidification technologies and draw inspiration from parallel research to rationalise the potential and innovative use of promising materials in membrane fabrication for air dehumidification.

With Chinese medicine(CM)gaining popularity in recent years,researchers and clinicians have put in much interest and effort into the makings and effects of it,especially after the recent announcement of World Health Orgnitation's incorporation of CM into mainstream medical *** herb has complex properties,coming from its pharmacological properties and the Chinese medical principles of organ-directed,taste and dynamic orientational *** use of individual herb in CM is rare,where various herbs/ingredients are mostly found in a prescribed *** fully reveal the effects of CM is a great *** complexity of various herbs in combined effect,the absorption and utility rate by the body,uniqueness of individual physique,sub-types of pathological behaviors and time-line progression of the healing process add on to the complication of understanding the full effect of *** theories such as pathophysiology guidance,pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic compatibility method,and Global Systems Biology for Integrative Genomics,Proteomics and Metabolomics,which interactively provide a wider scope,more details,with the consideration of development time-line,may shed more light to revealing the full picture of the effects of compatibility prescription.

Multivariate adaptive regression splines and neural network models for prediction of pile drivability

Piles are long, slender structural elements used to transfer the loads from the superstructure through weak strata onto stiffer soils or rocks. For driven piles, the impact of the piling hammer induces compression and tension stresses in the piles. Hence, an important design consideration is to check that the strength of the pile is sufficient to resist the stresses caused by the impact of the pile hammer. Due to its complexity, pile drivability lacks a precise analytical solution with regard to the phenomena *** situations where measured data or numerical hypothetical results are available, neural networks stand out in mapping the nonlinear interactions and relationships between the system’s predictors and dependent responses. In addition, unlike most computational tools, no mathematical relationship assumption between the dependent and independent variables has to be made. Nevertheless, neural networks have been criticized for their long trial-and-error training process since the optimal configuration is not known a priori. This paper investigates the use of a fairly simple nonparametric regression algorithm known as multivariate adaptive regression splines（MARS）, as an alternative to neural networks, to approximate the relationship between the inputs and dependent response, and to mathematically interpret the relationship between the various parameters. In this paper, the Back propagation neural network（BPNN） and MARS models are developed for assessing pile drivability in relation to the prediction of the Maximum compressive stresses（MCS）, Maximum tensile stresses（MTS）, and Blow per foot（BPF）. A database of more than four thousand piles is utilized for model development and comparative performance between BPNN and MARS predictions.

Crohn's disease in adults: Observations in a multiracial Asian population

AIM： To determine the demography and clinical presentation of CD and secondly to determine any differences in the prevalence between the different ethnic groups in a multiracial Asian population. METHODS： Patients with CD who were seen in 2001- 2003 in the University of Malaya Medical Centre （UMMC） were enrolled in this study. Prevalence of disease was calculated for the group as a whole and by race with hospital admissions per ethnic group as the denominator. RESULTS： Thirty-four patients were diagnosed to have CD. Basic demographic data of patients; male：female 17：17; mean age 29.1 years （±13.5 years）; ethnic group： Malays 5 （14.7%）, Chinese 12 （35.3%） and Indians 17 （50%）. Twenty-six （76.5%） were diagnosed under the age of 40 and 8 （23.5%） were diagnosed over the age of 40. Location of the disease was as follows： ileocolonic 13 （38.2%）, terminal ileum only 9 （26.5%）, colon only 8 （23.5%）, and upper gastrointestinal 4 （11.8%）. Sixteen （47.1%） had penetrating disease, 9 （26.5%） had stricturing disease and 9 （26.5%） had nonpenetrating and non-stricturing disease. The hospital admission prevalence of CD was 26.0 overall, Indians 52.6, Chinese 6.9, and Malays 9.3 per 10^5 admissions per ethnic group. The difference between Indians and Malays： [OR 5.67 （1.97, 17.53）P〈 0.001] was statistically significant but not between the Indians and the Chinese [OR 1.95 （0.89, 4.35） P= 0.700]. The difference between the Chinese and the Malays was also not statistically significant. [OR 2.90 （0.95, 9.42）P= 0.063]. CONCLUSION： The clinical presentation of CD is similar to the Western experience. Although the overall prevalence is low, there appears to be a clear racial predominance among the Indians.

Separation of organic mixture is an inevitable process in most modern industrial processes. In the quest for a more sustainable and efficient separation, solvent-resistant nanofiltration(SRNF) has emerged as a promising answer. This is because SRNF is a membrane-based process which offers the key advantages of high efficacy and low energy intensity separation. In particular, polymer-based membranes can offer compelling opportunities for SRNF with unprecedented cost-effectiveness. As a result, intensive research efforts have been devoted into developing novel polymer-based membranes with solvent-resistant capacities as well as exploring potential applications in different types of industries. In this review, we aim to give an overview of the recent progress in the development of the state-of-the-art polymer-based membranes for SRNF in the first section. Emerging nanomaterials for mixed matrix and thin film nanocomposite membranes are also covered in this section. This is followed by a discussion on the current status of membrane engineering and SRNF membrane commercialization. In the third section, we highlight recent efforts in adopting SRNF for relevant industrial applications such as food, bio-refinery, petrochemical, fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries followed by separations of enantiomers in stereochemistry, homogeneous catalysis and ionic liquids. Finally, we offer a perspective and provide deeper insights to help shape future research direction in this very important field of SRNF.

Lead-free ferroelectric K_(0.5)Na_(0.5)NbO_(3)(KNN)films with different thicknesses were prepared by polyvinlypyrrolidone(PVP)-modified chemical solution deposition(CSD)*** residual stresses were studied with two methods of X-ray diffraction(XRD)and nanoindentation *** was found that the tensile stress occurs in KNN films with small thickness of 1.3μm after all kinds of stresses were neutralized,which is mainly originated from the interaction across grain *** increasing the thickness to 2.5μm and above it,the residual stress changed from tensile stresses to compressive stresses,and the compressive stress decreased with the thickness *** results could explain why a thicker KNN film can show improved electrical properties and the larger the thickness,the better the ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties.
