AIM:To screen mutations in the retinitis pigmentosa 1(RP1) gene and the rhodopsin(RHO) gene in Chinese patients with retinitis pigmentosa sine pigmento(RPSP)and describe the genotype-phenotype relationship of the mutations.·METHODS:Twenty affected,unrelated Chinese individuals with RPSP(4 autosomal dominant RPSP,12autosomal recessive RPSP and 4 unknown inheritance pattern) were recruited between 2009 and *** clinical features were determined by complete ophthalmologic *** chain reaction(PCR) and direct DNA sequencing were used to screen the entire coding region and splice junctions of the RP1gene and the RHO *** cosegregation analysis and population frequency studies were performed for patients with identified mutations.·RESULTS:Five variants in the RP1 gene and one in the RHO gene were detected in 20 *** missense changes(rs444772,rs446227,rs414352,rs441800) and one non-coding variant(rs56340615) were common SNPs and none of them showed a significant relationship with RPSP.A missense mutation p.R1443W was identified in the RP1 gene in three affected individuals from a family with autosomal dominant RPSP and was found to cosegregate with the phenotype in this family,suggestive of *** addition,population frequency analysis showed the p.R1443W mutation was absent in 300 healthy controls.·CONCLUSION:The identification of p.R1443W mutationcosegregating in a family with autosomal dominant RPSP highlights an atypical phenotype of the RP1 gene mutation,while RHO gene is not associated with the pathogenesis of RPSP in this *** our knowledge,this is the fist mutation identified to associate with RPSP.

Emulsification is one of the important mechanisms of surfactant flooding. To improve oil recovery for low permeability reservoirs, a highly efficient emulsification oil flooding system consisting of anionic surfactant sodium alkyl glucosyl hydroxypropyl sulfonate(APGSHS) and zwitterionic surfactant octadecyl betaine(BS-18) is proposed. The performance of APGSHS/BS-18 mixed surfactant system was evaluated in terms of interfacial tension, emulsification capability, emulsion size and distribution, wettability alteration, temperature-resistance and salt-resistance. The emulsification speed was used to evaluate the emulsification ability of surfactant systems, and the results show that mixed surfactant systems can completely emulsify the crude oil into emulsions droplets even under low energy conditions. Meanwhile,the system exhibits good temperature and salt resistance. Finally, the best oil recovery of 25.45% is achieved for low permeability core by the mixed surfactant system with a total concentration of 0.3 wt%while the molar ratio of APGSHS:BS-18 is 4:6. The current study indicates that the anionic/zwitterionic mixed surfactant system can improve the oil flooding efficiency and is potential candidate for application in low permeability reservoirs.

The development of effective and stable electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in acidic electrolytes is a significant *** this work,homogeneous Pt nanodendrites(Pt NDs)with a PtIr shell were successfully synthesized by a two-step wet chemical *** open three-dimensional(3D)dendritic structure exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic characteristics,exposing as many active sites as ***,by alloying Ir with Pt on the surface,catalytic activity was greatly enhanced while ensuring extremely high *** surface-enriched platinum nanodendritic catalysts(Pt@PtIr NDs)outperformed the control samples and the commercial *** acidic HER test,Pt@PtIr NDs had a lower overpotential(22 mV)than Pt NDs(26 mV)and commercial Pt/C(31 mV)at 10 mA/cm^(2),and the activity of Pt@PtIr NDs remained consistent even after undergoing a continuous durability test for at least 168 h,which was much superior to the performance of commercial Pt/C(10 h)under identical test *** study revealed that the application of 3D Pt dendritic metal alloys may offer a chance for the development of enhanced electrocatalysts in acidic HER.

In the domain of high-performance engineering polymers, the enhancement of mechanical flexibility in poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) resins has long posed a significant challenge. A novel molecular structure, designated as PP-He-IS, wherein imide rings and an aliphatic hexylene chain are covalently incorporated into the PPS backbone to enhance its flexibility, is introduced in this study. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are employed to systematically explore the effects of diversifying the backbone chain structures by substituting phenyl units with alkyl chains of varying lengths, referred to as PP-A-IS where “A” signifies the distinct intermediary alkyl chain configurations. Computational analyses reveal a discernable decrement in the glass transition temperature (Tg) and elastic modulus, counterbalanced by an increment in yield strength as the alkyl chain length is extended. Notably, the PP-He-IS variant is shown to exhibit superior yield strength while simultaneously maintaining reduced elastic modulus and Tg values, positioning it as an advantageous candidate for flexible PPS applications. Mesoscopic analyses further indicate that structures such as PP-He-IS, PP-Pe-IS, and PP-Bu-IS manifest remarkable flexibility, attributable to the presence of freely rotatable carbon-carbon single bonds. Experimental validation confirms that a melting temperature of 504 K which is lower than that of conventional PPS, and lower crystallinity are exhibited by PP-He-IS, thereby affording enhanced processability without compromising inherent thermal stability. Novel insights into the strategic modification of PPS for mechanical flexibility are thus furnished by this study, which also accentuates the pivotal role played by molecular dynamics simulations in spearheading high-throughput investigations in polymer material modifications.

The absence of efficient and durable catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction（OER） is the main obstacle to hydrogen production through water splitting in an acidic ele ***,we report a controllable synthesis method of surface IrOxwith changing Au/Ir compositions by constructing a range of sub-10-nm-sized core-shell nanocatalysts composed of an Au core and AuxIr1-xalloy *** particular,Au@Au0.43Ir0.57exhibits 4.5 times higher intrinsic OER activity than that of the commercial Ir/*** X-ray-based spectroscopies,electron microscopy and density functional theory calculations revealed a balanced binding of reaction intermediates with enhanced *** water-splitting cell using a load of 0.02 mgIr/cm2of Au@Au0.43Ir0.57as both anode and cathode can reach 10 mA/cm2at 1.52 V and maintain activity for at least194 h,which is better than the cell using the commercial couple Ir/C‖Pt/C（1.63 V,0.2 h）.
