Variation Characteristics of Root Traits of Different Alfalfa Cultivars under Saline-Alkaline Stress and their Relationship with Soil Environmental Factors

Soil salinization is the main factor that threatens the growth and development of plants and limits the increase of *** is of great significance to study the key soil environmental factors affecting plant root traits to reveal the adaptation strategies of plants to saline-alkaline-stressed soil *** this study,the root biomass,root morphological parameters and root mineral nutrient content of two alfalfa cultivars with different sensitivities to alkaline stress were analyzed with black soil as the control group and the mixed saline-alkaline soil with a ratio of 7:3 between black soil and saline-alkaline soil as the saline-alkaline treatment *** the same time,the correlation analysis of soil salinity indexes,soil nutrient indexes and the activities of key enzymes involved in soil carbon,nitrogen and phosphorus cycles was carried *** results showed that compared with the control group,the pH,EC,and urease(URE)of the soil surrounding the roots of two alfalfa cultivars were significantly increased,while soil total nitrogen(TN),total phosphorus(TP),organic carbon(SOC),andα-glucosidase activity(AGC)were significantly decreased under saline-alkaline *** was no significant difference in root biomass and root morphological parameters of saline-alkaline tolerant cultivar GN under saline-alkaline *** number of root tips(RT),root surface area(RS)and root volume(RV)of AG were reduced by 61.16%,44.54%,and 45.31%,respectively,compared with control *** ratios of K^(+)/Na^(+),Ca^(2+)/Na^(+)and Mg^(2+)/Na^(+)of GN were significantly higher than those of AG(pweight(RFW)and dry weight(RDW),root length(RL),RV and RT of alfalfa were positively regulated by soil SOC and TN,but negatively regulated by soil pH,EC,and URE(p<0.01).Root Ca^(2+)/Na+ratio was significantly positively correlated with soil TN,TP and SOC(p<0.01).The absorption of Mg and Ca ions in roots is significantly negatively regulated by soilβ-glucosidase ac

Body size induced changes in metabolic carbon of soil nematodes under N deposition and precipitation regime change in a temperate grassland

Background Global climate change has resulted in precipitation regimes exhibiting an increasing trend in rainfall intensity but a reduction in its frequency. Nitrogen(N) deposition is a crucial component of the global N cycling. Nematode body size is a trait that responds to climate change and is used as a standard trait-based indicator in soil community analysis. Variations in body size influence metabolic carbon(C). We examined the ways by which body size and metabolic C of nematodes respond to changing precipitation regimes and how N deposition regulates these responses by an 8-year manipulative *** Nematode body size was indicated by the community-weighted mean(CWM) mass. We quantified C metabolism components of soil nematodes including production C, respiration C, and corresponding C use efficiency(CUE) under different precipitation intensities and N addition in a semi-arid steppe on the Mongolian Plateau. The Mantel test was used to determine the correlations between CWM, CUE and environmental factors. The partial least squares path modeling(PLS-PM) was conducted to quantify direct or indirect contributions among latent *** We found that heavy precipitation intensity increased the CWM mass of total nematodes and omnivorespredators without N addition. N addition decreased CWM mass of bacterivores across all the precipitation intensity treatments. Stronger precipitation intensities might be favorable for nematode production and respiration C. Variations in the nematode CWM mass drove the CUE to change with N *** Our findings provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying nematode body size and C metabolism, and highlight that explorative studies, such as manipulative experiments, are needed to identify traits underlying size-related effects and to investigate how they affect CUE of nematodes. Topological and superconducting properties of monolayered CoN and CoP:A first-principles comparative study

Two-dimensional systems that simultaneously harbor superconductivity and nontrivial band topology may serve as appealing platforms for realizing topological superconductivity with promising applications in fault-tolerant quantum ***,based on first-principles calculations,we show that monolayered Co N and Co P with the isovalent Fe Se-like structure are stable in freestanding form,even though their known bulk phases have no resemblance to *** two systems are further revealed to display intrinsic band inversions due to crystal field splitting,and such orderings are preserved with the inclusion of spin-orbit coupling(SOC),which otherwise is able to open a curved band gap,yielding a non-zero Z2 topological invariant in each *** a mechanism of topologicalization is distinctly contrasted with that identified recently for the closely related monolayers of CoX(X=As,Sb,Bi),where the SOC plays an indispensable role in causing a nontrivial band ***,we demonstrate that,by applying equi-biaxial tensile strain,the electron-phonon coupling strength in monolayered CoN can be significantly enhanced,yielding a superconducting transition temperature(Tc)up to 7-12 K for the Coulomb pseudopotential ofμ*=0.2-0.1,while the CoP monolayer shows very low Tc even under pronounced *** different superconducting behaviors can be attributed to different variations in lattice softening and electronic density of states around the Fermi level upon *** central findings enrich the understanding of different mechanisms of band inversions and topologicalization and offer platforms for achieving the coexistence of superconductivity and nontrivial band topology based on two-dimensional systems.

Alignment of inertialess spheroidal particles in flow-structure-dominated regions of turbulent channel flow:shape effect

The alignment of elongated fibers and thin disks is known to be significantly influenced by the presence of fluid coherent structures in near-wall turbulence(cui et al.2021).However,this earlier study is confined to the spheroids with infinitely large or small aspect ratio,and the shape effect of finite aspect ratio on the alignment is not *** current study investigates the shape-dependent alignment of inertialess spheroids in structure-dominated regions of channel *** utilizing an ensemble-averaged approach for identifying the structure-dominated regions,we analyze the eigensystem of the linear term matrix in the Jeffery equation,which is governed by both particle shape and local fluid velocity *** contrast to earlier conventional analysis based on local vorticity and strain rate,our findings demonstrate that the eigensystem of the Jeffery equation offers a convenient,effective,and universal framework for predicting the alignment behavior of inertialess spheroids in turbulent *** leveraging the eigensystem of the Jeffery equation,we uncover a diverse effect of fluid coherent structures on spheroid alignment with different particle ***,we provide explanations for both shape-independent alignments observed in vortical-core regions and shape-dependent alignments around near-wall streamwise vortices.

A stable and highly active core‐shell heterostructure electrocatalyst is essential for catalyzing oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Here,a dual‐trimetallic core‐shell heterostructure OER electrocatalyst that consists of a NiFeWS_(2)inner core and an amorphous NiFeW(OH)_(z)outer shell is designed and synthesized using in situ electrochemical *** electrochemical measurements of different as‐synthesized catalysts with a similar mass loading suggest that the core‐shell Ni_(0.66)Fe_(0.17)W_(0.17)S_(2)@amorphous NiFeW(OH)_(z)nanosheets exhibit the highest overall performance compared with that of other bimetallic reference catalysts for the ***,the nanosheet arrays were in situ grown on hydrophilic‐treated carbon paper to fabricate an integrated three‐dimensional electrode that affords a current density of 10 mA cm^(−2)at a small overpotential of 182 mV and a low Tafel slope of 35 mV decade^(−1)in basic *** Faradaic efficiency of core‐shell Ni_(0.66)Fe_(0.17)W_(0.17)S_(2)@amorphous NiFeW(OH)_(z)is as high as 99.5%for *** scanning electron microscope,transmission electron microscope,and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses confirm that this electrode has excellent stability in morphology and elementary composition after long‐term electrochemical ***,density functional theory calculations further indicate that the core‐shell heterojunction increased the conductivity of the catalyst,optimized the adsorption energy of the OER intermediates,and improved the OER *** study provides a universal strategy for designing more active core‐shell structure electrocatalysts based on the rule of coordinated regulation between electronic transport and active sites.

circRNA3669 promotes goat endometrial epithelial cells proliferation via miR-26a/RCN2 to activate PI3K/AKT-mTOR and MAPK pathways

The development of receptive endometrium(RE) from pre-receptive endometrium(PE) for successful embryo implantation is a complex dynamic process in which the morphology and physiological states of the endometrial epithelium undergo a series of significant changes, including cell proliferation and apoptosis. However, the molecular mechanisms are not yet fully understood. In this study, a higher circRNA3669 level was observed in PE than in RE of goats. Functional assays revealed that this overexpression promoted the proliferation of goat endometrial epithelial cells(GEECs) by activating the expression of genes related to the PI3K/AKT-mTOR and MAPK pathways,thereby inhibiting apoptosis in vitro. Furthermore, circRNA3669 functioned as a competing endogenous RNA(ceRNA) to upregulate Reticulocalbin-2(RCN2) expression at the post-transcriptional level by interacting with and downregulating miR-26a in GEECs. In addition, RCN2, which is highly expressed in the PE of goats, was found to be regulated by β-estradiol(E2) and progesterone(P4). Our results demonstrated that RCN2 also affected the key proteins PI3K, AKT, mTOR, JNK, and P38 in the PI3K/AKT-mTOR and MAPK pathways, thereby facilitating GEECs proliferation and suppressing their apoptosis in vitro. Collectively, we constructed a new circRNA3669-miR-26aRCN2 regulatory network in GEECs, which further provides strong evidence that circRNA could potentially play a crucial regulatory role in the development of RE in goats.
