Lymphangioma of the gallbladder in childhood： a case report and review of the literature

Lymphangiomas are malformations of the lymphatic system, which is a common disease in children, usually superficial in body, but seldom seen in visceral organs. We present the case of a child with lymphangioma of the gallbladder. Also we reviewed the literatures. A 2-year-6-month-old boy complained of progressing difficulty in walking for 6 months. Cerebral MRI showed abnormal signals in the white matter suggesting leukodystrophy. Ultrasound of abdomen showed a mixed-echoic mass in the site of galJbJadder. CT scan showed an enlarged gaiJbJadder with increased density. Bloodcounting, liver function, and alpha fetal protein were within normal range. Exploratory laparotomy was done in order to rule out malignancy. The liver was found normal at surgery, and the gallbladder looked enlarged and deformed. The gallbladder wall was thick and edematous, and adherent with liver. The gallbladder was excised. Pathological examination gave the diagnosis as lymphangioma of the gallbladder wall. The postoperative recovery was uneventful. There was no evidence of recurrence. Searching in literatures, three cases of lymphangioma of gallbladder in adults were found. According to the pathology of lymphangioma and the anatomy of gallbladder, the outcome of this disease should be benign and may be symptomless throughout the life. No death was reported due to lymphangioma of gall bladder, nor severe complications endangering life at any age. The only indication for surgery in the reported cases was to rule out the risk of being malignancy. If MRI or other means can make a definite preoperative diagnosis of lymphangioma, being a stable lesion, surgery would be unnecessary unless there is a progressive organic obstruction causing repeated infection or persistent abdominal pain.

Based on Siewert classification, adenocarcinomas of the esophagogastric junction （AEGs） have different behaviors of perigastric-mediastinal nodal metastasis. Siewert type I AEGs have higher incidence of mediastinal nodal metastasis than those of type H or III, especially at middle-upper mediastinum. With regard to the necessity of mediastinal lymphadenectomy, theoretically, transthoracic esophagogastrectomy with complete mediastinal lymphadenectomy is suggested for Siewert type I AEGs, while transhiatal total gastrectomy with lower mediastinal and D2 perigastric lymphadenectomy is a standard surgery for type II-III AEGs. Nevertheless, the mediastinal nodal metastasis is an independent factor of poor prognosis for any type of AEG.

In order to examine the effects of structure stability on the degradation behaviors of multiphase La0.7Mg0.3Ni3 alloy,changes of the crystal structure and hydrogen storage properties after gas-solid cycling were investigated in *** structural analysis identifies that（La,Mg）Ni3（PuNi3-type） phase transforms to amorphous,i.e.,hydrogen-induced amorphization（HIA） occurs whereas LaNi5（CaCu5-type）,（La,Mg）2Ni7（Ce2Ni7-type）,and（La,Mg）5Ni19（Pr5Co19-type） phases still keep crystalline upon hydriding/dehydriding *** amorphization remarkably affects both the gas-solid and electrochemical storage *** plateau of PCT curves becomes narrow and steep with ***,the maximum electrochemical capacity decreases notably after gas-solid hydrogenation *** electrochemical capacity reduction could be ascribed to both drop of the maximum storage capacity and the slope of plateau induced by partial *** direct electrochemical cycling,it is suggested that the capacity decay is mainly attributed to HIA in the initial stage.

Silver or copper ions are often chosen as antibacterial agents. But a few reports are concerned with these two antibacterial agents for preparation of antibacterial stainless steel （SS）. The antibacterial properties and corrosion resistance of AISI 420 stainless steel implanted by silver and copper ions were investigated. Due to the cooperative antibacterial effect of silver and copper ions, the Ag/Cu implanted SS showed excellent antibacterial activities against both Gram-negative Escherichia coli （E. coli） and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus （S. aureus） at a total implantation dose of 2~ 1017 ions/cm2. Electrochemical polarization curves revealed that the corrosion resistance of Ag/Cu implanted SS was slightly enhanced as compared with that of un-implanted SS, The implanted layer was characterized by X-ray photoelec- tron spectroscopy （XPS）. Core level XPS spectra indicate that the implanted silver and copper ions exist in metallic state in the implanted layer.

Individualized proximal margin for early gastric cancer patients

There is no robust evidence to define a safe proximal margin by distance for early gastric cancer (EGC). The discussion on resection margin should not only focus on the oncologic safety, but also the postgastrectomy quality of life. The distance 1-10 mm is only acceptable for those endoscopic treatment fit EGC patients. For endoscopic unfit EGC cases, if the borderline of tumor is able to be clearly determined intraoperatively, the distance 1-3 cm is recommended for proximal resection margin. If there is any uncertainty on the tumor borderline, the distance 3-5 cm should be considered for proximal margin. (C) 2014 Baishideng Publishing Group Inc. All rights reserved.

The medium-temperature T dependence of the jet transport coefficient̂q was studied via the nuclear modification factor RAA(p_(T))and elliptical flow parameter v_(2)(p_(T))for large transverse momentum p_(T) hadrons in high-energy nucleus-nucleus *** a next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD parton model for hard scatterings with modified fragmentation functions due to jet quenching controlled by q,we check the suppression and azimuthal anisotropy for large p_(T) hadrons,and extract q by global fits to RAA(pT)and v_(2)(pT)data in A+A collisions at RHIC and LHC,*** numerical results from the best fits show that q∕T^(3) goes down with local medium-temperature T in the parton jet *** with the case of a constant q∕T^(3),the going-down T dependence of q∕T^(3) makes a hard parton jet to lose more energy near T_(c) and therefore strengthens the azimuthal anisotropy for large pT *** a result,v_(2)(p_(T))for large pT hadrons was enhanced by approximately 10%to better fit the data at RHIC/*** the first-order phase transition from QGP to the hadron phase and the additional energy loss in the hadron phase,v_(2)(p_(T))is again enhanced by 5-10%at RHIC/LHC.

Background Minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy （MIVAT） has received increasing attention for malignant thyroid diseases. The aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of MIVAT with conventional open thyroidectomy （CT） for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma （PTMC）. Methods Thirty-one patients were treated with MIVAT and 37 with CT. Their pathological characteristics, surgical complications, 5-year postoperative thyroglobulin （TG） and ultrasonic results were followed up. Results All the patients took levothyroxine for suppressing thyroid stimulating hormone （TSH） after surgery, and were followed up with measurement of serum TG and neck ultrasonography at intervals of 6 or 12 months. There was no statistically significant difference between the CT and MIVAT groups for sex ratio, operation time, positive lymph nodes, complications and prognosis, but the MIVAT group had better cosmetic results. Conclusions MIVAT did not differ significantly from CT for PTMC after 5 years follow-up, but it did have better cosmetic results. MIVAT is a safe and valid surgical technique for selected cases.

Fibre reinforced polymer composites have become a new generation of structural materials due to their unique advantages such as high specific strength,designability,good dimensional stability and ease of large-area monolithic ***,the problem of interfacial bonding between the resin matrix and the fibres limits the direct use of reinforcing fibres and has become a central difficulty in the development of basalt fibre-epoxy *** paper proposes a solution for enhancing the strength of the fibre-resin interface using maize starch nanocrystals,which are highly yield and ***,in this paper,corn starch nanocrystals(SNC)were prepared by hydrolysis,and were deposited on the surface of basalt fibers by electrostatic *** that,in order to maximize the modification effect of nano-starch crystals on the interface,the basalt fiber-epoxy resin composite samples were prepared by mixing in a pressureless molding *** test results shown that the addition of basalt fibers alone led to a reduction in the strength of the *** of 0.1 wt%SNC on the surface of basalt fibers can make the strength consistent with pure epoxy *** the adsorption amount of SNC reached 0.5 wt%,the tensile strength of the samples was 23.7%higher than that of pure epoxy *** is due to the formation of ether bond homopolymers between the SNC at the fibre-epoxy interface and the epoxy resin,which distorts the originally smooth interface,leading to increased stress concentration and the development of *** enhances the binding of basalt *** conclusions of this paper can provide an effective,simple,low-cost and non-polluting method of interfacial enhancement modification.
