Effect of Acupuncture on Endometrial Blood Flow in Women Undergoing in vitro Fertilization Embryo Transfer: A Single Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective: To evaluate the effect of manual acupuncture on endometrial blood flow parameters by three-dimensional(3D) power Doppler ultrasound in women undergoing in vitro fertilization embryo transfer(IVF-ET). Methods: Seventy patients undergoing IVF-ET were equally randomized into traditional or sham acupuncture treatment group for totally 4 days(from the day of oocyte aspiration to the day of embryo transfer) of treatment by random envelope method at the Reproductive Medicine Center and Outpatient Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medicine College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2013 to December 2015. Patients in the traditional acupuncture group accepted traditional acupuncture methods with manual acupuncture, and Zhongji(CV3), Qihai(CV 6), Sanyinjiao(SP6), Taichong(LR 3), Tianshu(ST 25), Guilai(ST 29) and Zusanli(ST 36) were chosen. Patients at the sham acupuncture group accepted shallow acupuncture methods at 4 non-meridian points at each shoulder and upper arm. Outcome measures included endometrial ultrasonic indices such as vascularization index(VI), flow index(FI) and vascularization flow index(VFI), endometrial thickness and volume, subendometrial VI(sVI), subendometrial FI(sFI), subendometrial VFI(sVFI), implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate, live birth rate and number of live births. Results: Finally, 34 patients in the traditional acupuncture group and 35 in the sham acupuncture group completed this trial. VI, FI and VFI of the traditional acupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the sham acupuncture group(P0.05). An improved deep dilated convolutional neural network for seismic facies interpretation

With the successful application and breakthrough of deep learning technology in image segmentation,there has been continuous development in the field of seismic facies interpretation using convolutional neural networks. These intelligent and automated methods significantly reduce manual labor, particularly in the laborious task of manually labeling seismic facies. However, the extensive demand for training data imposes limitations on their wider application. To overcome this challenge, we adopt the UNet architecture as the foundational network structure for seismic facies classification, which has demonstrated effective segmentation results even with small-sample training data. Additionally, we integrate spatial pyramid pooling and dilated convolution modules into the network architecture to enhance the perception of spatial information across a broader range. The seismic facies classification test on the public data from the F3 block verifies the superior performance of our proposed improved network structure in delineating seismic facies boundaries. Comparative analysis against the traditional UNet model reveals that our method achieves more accurate predictive classification results, as evidenced by various evaluation metrics for image segmentation. Obviously, the classification accuracy reaches an impressive 96%. Furthermore, the results of seismic facies classification in the seismic slice dimension provide further confirmation of the superior performance of our proposed method, which accurately defines the range of different seismic facies. This approach holds significant potential for analyzing geological patterns and extracting valuable depositional information.

Viral encephalitis continues to be a significant public health concern.In our previous study,we discovered a lower expression of antiviral factors,such as IFN-β,STING and IFI16,in the brain tissues of patients with Rasmussen's encephalitis(RE),a rare chronic neurological disorder often occurred in children,characterized by unihemispheric brain atrophy.Furthermore,a higher cumulative viral score of human herpes viruses(HHVs)was also found to have a significant positive correlation with the unihemispheric atrophy in RE.Type I IFNs(IFN-I)signaling is essential for innate anti-infection response by binding to IFN-α/βreceptor(IFNAR).In this study,we infected WT mice and IFNAR-deficient A6 mice with herpes simplex virus 1(HSV-1)via periocular injection to investigate the relationship between IFN-I signaling and HHVs-induced brain lesions.While all mice exhibited typical viral encephalitis lesions in their brains,HSV-induced epilepsy was only observed in A6 mice.The gene expression matrix,functional enrichment analysis and protein-protein interaction network revealed four gene models that were positively related with HSV-induced epilepsy.Additionally,ten key genes with the highest scores were identified.Taken together,these findings indicate that intact IFN-I signaling can effectively limit HHVs induced neural symptoms and brain lesions,thereby confirming the positive correlation between IFN-I signaling repression and brain atrophy in RE and other HHVs encephalitis.

Polysaccharides from Chinese herbal medicine:a review on the hepatoprotective and molecular mechanism

Polysaccharides,predominantly extracted from traditional Chinese medicinal herbs such as Lycium barbarum,Angelica sinensis,Astragalus membranaceus,Dendrobium officinale,Ganoderma lucidum,and Poria cocos,represent principal bioactive constituents extensively utilized in Chinese medicine.These compounds have demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory capabilities,especially anti-liver injury activities,while exhibiting minimal adverse effects.This review summarized recent studies to elucidate the hepatoprotective efficacy and underlying molecular mechanisms of these herbal polysaccharides.It underscored the role of these polysaccharides in regulating hepatic function,enhancing immunological responses,and improving antioxidant capacities,thus contributing to the attenuation of hepatocyte apoptosis and liver protection.Analyses of molecular pathways in these studies revealed the intricate and indispensable functions of traditional Chinese herbal polysaccharides in liver injury management.Therefore,this review provides a thorough examination of the hepatoprotective attributes and molecular mechanisms of these medicinal polysaccharides,thereby offering valuable insights for the advancement of polysaccharide-based therapeutic research and their potential clinical applications in liver disease treatment.

Polycytosine RNA-binding protein 1 regulates osteoblast function via a ferroptosis pathway in type 2 diabetic osteoporosis

BACKGROUND Recently,type 2 diabetic osteoporosis(T2DOP)has become a research hotspot for the complications of diabetes,but the specific mechanism of its occurrence and development remains unknown.Ferroptosis caused by iron overload is con-sidered an important cause of T2DOP.Polycytosine RNA-binding protein 1(PCBP1),an iron ion chaperone,is considered a protector of ferroptosis.AIM To investigate the existence of ferroptosis and specific role of PCBP1 in the development of type 2 diabetes.METHODS A cell counting kit-8 assay was used to detect changes in osteoblast viability under high glucose(HG)and/or ferroptosis inhibitors at different concentrations and times.Transmission electron microscopy was used to examine the morpho-logical changes in the mitochondria of osteoblasts under HG,and western blotting was used to detect the expression levels of PCBP1,ferritin,and the ferroptosis-related protein glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4).A lentivirus silenced and overex-pressed PCBP1.Western blotting was used to detect the expression levels of the osteoblast functional proteins osteoprotegerin(OPG)and osteocalcin(OCN),whereas flow cytometry was used to detect changes in reactive oxygen species(ROS)levels in each group.RESULTS Under HG,the viability of osteoblasts was considerably decreased,the number of mitochondria undergoing atrophy was considerably increased,PCBP1 and ferritin expression levels were increased,and GPX4 expression was decreased.Western blotting results demonstrated that infection with lentivirus overexpressing PCBP1,increased the expression levels of ferritin,GPX4,OPG,and OCN,compared with the HG group.Flow cytometry results showed a reduction in ROS,and an opposite result was obtained after silencing PCBP1.CONCLUSION PCBP1 may protect osteoblasts and reduce the harm caused by ferroptosis by promoting ferritin expression under a HG environment.Moreover,PCBP1 may be a potential therapeutic target for T2DOP.

A reweighted damped singular spectrum analysis method for robust seismic noise suppression

(Multichannel) Singular spectrum analysis is considered as one of the most effective methods for seismic incoherent noise suppression. It utilizes the low-rank feature of seismic signal and regards the noise suppression as a low-rank reconstruction problem. However, in some cases the seismic geophones receive some erratic disturbances and the amplitudes are dramatically larger than other receivers. The presence of this kind of noise, called erratic noise, makes singular spectrum analysis(SSA) reconstruction unstable and has undesirable effects on the final results. We robustify the low-rank reconstruction of seismic data by a reweighted damped SSA(RD-SSA) method. It incorporates the damped SSA, an improved version of SSA, into a reweighted framework. The damping operator is used to weaken the artificial disturbance introduced by the low-rank projection of both erratic and random noise. The central idea of the RD-SSA method is to iteratively approximate the observed data with the quadratic norm for the first iteration and the Tukeys bisquare norm for the rest iterations. The RD-SSA method can suppress seismic incoherent noise and keep the reconstruction process robust to the erratic disturbance. The feasibility of RD-SSA is validated via both synthetic and field data examples.

Intelligent representation method of image flatness for cold rolled strip

Real flatness images are the bases for flatness detection based on machine vision of cold rolled strip.The characteristics of a real flatness image are analyzed,and a lightweight strip location detection(SLD)model with deep semantic segmentation networks is established.The interference areas in the real flatness image can be eliminated by the SLD model,and valid information can be retained.On this basis,the concept of image flatness is proposed for the first time.An image flatness representation(IFAR)model is established on the basis of an autoencoder with a new structure.The optimal structure of the bottleneck layer is 16×16×4,and the IFAR model exhibits a good representation effect.Moreover,interpretability analysis of the representation factors is carried out,and the difference and physical meaning of the representation factors for image flatness with different categories are analyzed.Image flatness with new defect morphologies(bilateral quarter waves and large middle waves)that are not present in the original dataset are generated by modifying the representation factors of the no wave image.Lastly,the SLD and IFAR models are used to detect and represent all the real flatness images on the test set.The average processing time for a single image is 11.42 ms,which is suitable for industrial applications.The research results provide effective methods and ideas for intelligent flatness detection technology based on machine vision.

Square-root topological insulators recently discovered are intriguing topological phases.They possess topological properties inherited from the squared Hamiltonian and exhibit double-band structures.The mechanism of the square root was generalized to 2^(n)-root topological insulators,giving rise to more band gaps.In this study,we describe the experimental realization of onedimensional 2^(n)-root topological insulators in photonic waveguide arrays using the archetypical Su-Schrieffer-Heeger(SSH)model.Topological edge states with tunable numbers are clearly observed under visible light.In particular,we visualized the dynamic evolutions of the light propagation by varying the sample lengths,which further proved the localization and multiple numbers of edge states in 2^(n)-root topological systems.The experiment,which involves constructing 2^(n)-root topological photonic lattices in various geometric arrangements,provides a stable platform for studying topological states that exhibit a remarkable degree of flexibility and control.

Semiannual oscillation,annual oscillation,quasibiennial oscillation,and solar cycle variation of the OH airglow emission in the mesopause region

The vertically integrated emission rate,centroid altitude,peak emission rate,and peak height of the hydroxyl(OH)airglow were calculated from Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics(TIMED)/Sounding of the Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry(SABER)observations to study the seasonal and interannual variations in the intensity and location of the OH emission.The emission rate is inversely proportional to the height of the emission,with the semiannual oscillation dominating at low latitudes and the annual oscillation dominating at higher latitudes.The OH emission is modulated by the quasibiennial oscillation at the equator,and the quasibiennial oscillation signal is weak at other latitudes.We represented the vertical transport of atomic oxygen by using atomic oxygen concentrations obtained from a global atmospheric model,the Specified Dynamics Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model with thermosphere and ionosphere eXtension simulations.Compared with the amplitudes of the migrating diurnal tide(DW1)calculated from temperature data observed by TIMED/SABER,we found that both the vertical transport of atomic oxygen and DW1 amplitudes in the equatorial region exhibit semiannual oscillation and quasibiennial oscillation,which have a strong correlation with the variations in the amplitude and phase of semiannual oscillation and quasibiennial oscillation in OH emission.It is likely that the DW1 affects the vertical transport of atomic oxygen that is involved in the reaction to produce O3,thus affecting the OH emission.We analyzed the relationship between OH emission and solar activity by using the solar radio flux at 10.7 cm as a proxy for solar activity.The results showed that the OH emission is well correlated with solar activity,and the modulation of OH emission by solar activity has a significant latitudinal variation.The small correlation between emission height and solar activity indicates that solar activity modulates OH emission mainly through chemical rather than dynamic processes.

Numerical Investigations on the Resonance Errors of Multiscale Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for One-Dimensional Stationary Schrödinger Equation

In this paper,numerical experiments are carried out to investigate the impact of penalty parameters in the numerical traces on the resonance errors of high-order multiscale discontinuous Galerkin(DG)methods(dong et al.in J Sci Comput 66:321–345,2016;dong and Wang in J Comput Appl Math 380:1–11,2020)for a one-dimensional stationary Schrödinger equation.Previous work showed that penalty parameters were required to be positive in error analysis,but the methods with zero penalty parameters worked fine in numerical simulations on coarse meshes.In this work,by performing extensive numerical experiments,we discover that zero penalty parameters lead to resonance errors in the multiscale DG methods,and taking positive penalty parameters can effectively reduce resonance errors and make the matrix in the global linear system have better condition numbers.
