Based on the hindcast of the severest 75 tropical cyclones (hereafter is called TCs) which affected Tonkin Gulf in history, the present paper gives sea surface wind and wave extreme parameters at 38 points corresponding to (1/2)×(1/2)?grid in the Gulf. The research increases our understanding of the meteo-ocean conditions on the whole area and provides basic data for ocean environmental research and engineering design.

Application of Computed Tomographic Colonography in Diagnosis of Colonic Polyps

Objective To assess the clinical values of computed tomographic colonography （CTC） in diagnosis of colonic polyps. Methods Forty-two patients who were clinically suspicious of colonic polyps or underwent colonic polyps screening received examinations with both CTC and conventional colonoscopy. Sixteen- or 64-slice spiral computed tomography and professional imaging processing techniques were used for evaluation. Per-polyp and per-patient results were analyzed. Those by per-polyp were subsequently divided into ≥10 mm group, 5-10 mm group, and ≤5 mm group. Sensitivity, positive predictive value （PPV）, specificity, negative predictive value （NPV）, and accuracy were calculated using statistical method for diagnostic studies, with conventional colonoscopy as a gold standard. Results Ninety and 61 polyps were found by CTC and conventional colonoscopy, respectively. The per-polyp sensitivity/PPV were 80.3%/55.6% in total, and 100%/92.9%, 93.8%/65.2%, and 68.8%/ 41.5% in the ≥10 mm group, 5-10 mm group, and ≤5 turn group, respectively. The per-patient sensitivity, PPV, specificity, NPV, and accuracy were 97.1%, 89.5%, 42.9%, 75.0%, and 88.1%, respectively. Conclusion CTC can clearly reveal the morphology of colonic polyps and be used as a routine monitoring method for the clinical diagnosis of polyps.

The mechanisms of magnetoreception have been proposed as the magnetitebased, the chemical radical-pair and biocompass model, in which magnetite particles, the cryptochrome (Cry) or iron-sulfur cluster assembly 1 (IscA1) may be involved. However, little is known about the association among the molecules. Here we investigated the molecular characterization and the mRNA expression of IscA1 in different developmental stages, tissues and magnetic fields in the migratory brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens. NlIscA1 contains an open reading frame of 390 bp, encoding amino acids of 129, with the predicted molecular weight of 14.0 kDa and the isoelectric point of 9.10. Well-conserved Fe-S cluster binding sites were observed in the predicted protein. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated NlIscA1 to be clustered into the insect's IscA1. NlIscA1 showed up-regulated mRNA expression during the period of migration. The mRNA expression of NlIscA1 could be detected in all the three tissues of head, thorax and abdomen, with the highest expression level in the abdomen. For the macropterous migratory Nilaparvata lugens, mRNA expression of NlIscA1 and N. lugens cryptochromel (Nlcry1) were up-regulated under the magnetic fields of 5 Gauss and 10 Gauss in strength (vs. local geomagnetic field), while N. lugens cryptochrome 2 (Nlcry2) remained stable. For the brachyterous non-migratory Nilaparvata lugens, no significant changes were found in mRNA expression of NlIscA1, Nlcry1 and Nlcry2 among different magnetic fields. These findings preliminarily reveal that the expression of NlIscA1 and Nlcry1 exhibited coordinated responses to the magnetic field. It suggests some potential associations among the putative magneto-sensitive molecules of cryptochrome and iron-sulfur cluster assembly.

The geomagnetic field(GMF)is well documented for its essential role as a cue used in animal orientation or *** evidence indicates that the absence of GMF(mimicked by the near-zero magnetic field,NZMF)can trigger stress-like responses such as reduced body weight,as we have previously shown in the brown planthopper,Nilaparvata *** this study,we found that consistent with the significantly decreased body weight of newly emerged female(—14.67%)and male(—13.17%)adult ***,the duration of the phloem ingestion feeding waveform was significantly reduced by 32.02%in 5th instar nymphs reared under the NZMF versus ***,5th instar nymphs that exhibited reduced feeding had significantly higher glucose levels(+16.98%and+20.05%;24 h and 48 h after molting),which are associated with food aversion,and expression patterns of their appetite-related neuropeptide genes(neuropeptide F,dow regulated overall;short neuropeptide F,dowregulated overall;adipokinetic hormone up-regulated overall;and adipokinetic hormone receptor,down-regulated overall)were also altered under the absence of GMF in a manner consistent with diminishing ***,the expressions of the potential magnetosensor croptochromes(Crys)were found significantly altered under the absence of GMF,indicating the likely upstream signaling of the Cry-mediated magnetoreception *** findings support the hypothesis that strong changes in GMF intensity can reduce adult body weight through affecting insect feeding behavior and underlying regulatory processes including appetite *** results highlight that GMF could be necessary for the maintenanee of energy homeostasis in insects.

Second near-infrared(NIR-II)window optical molecular imaging kicks off a new revolution in high-quality imaging in vivo,but always suffers from the hurdles of inevitable tissue autofluorescence background and NIR-II probe ***,we prepare a Förster resonance energy transfer-based ratiometric NIR-II window hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)sensor through the combination of an H_(2)S-responsive NIR-II cyanine dye(acceptor,LET-1055)and an H_(2)S-inert rhodamine hybrid polymethine dye(donor,Rh930).This sensor not only exhibits high sensitivity and selectivity,but also shows rapid reaction kinetics(~20 min)and relatively low limit of detection(~96 nM)toward H_(2)S,allowing in vivo ratiometric NIR-II fluorescence imaging of orthotopic liver and colon tumors and visualization of the drug-induced hepatic H_(2)S *** findings provide the potential for advancing the feasibility of NIR-II activity-based sensing for in vivo clinical diagnosis.

USING OF MULTISLICE HELICAL CT COLONOGRAPHY IN PATIENTS WITH MALIGNANT LESIONS OF COLON

Objoctive To investigate the techniques and clinical applications ofmultislice helical computed tomography （CT） colonography in colonic lesions. Methods Fifty-nine patients with malignant lesions of colon underwent volume scanning using multislice helical CT. Four types of reconstruction including CT virtual colonoscopy （CTVC）, shaded surface display （SSD）, Raysum, and multiple planar reconstruction （MPR） were used for image post-processing. The results were compared with those of colonoscopy and pathology. Results Multislice helical CT colonography detected 54 colorectal carcinomas, 4 adenomas with focal carcinoma, 1 non-Hodgkin＇s lymphoma （NHL）. The lesions＇ number, size, location, morphology, stricture of intestinal cavity, infiltration, and metastasis were shown satisfactorily by multislice helical CT colonography. Whole colon could be shown in all patients. CT colonography displayed 4 synchronous colonic tumors, 1 ascending colon carcinoma combined with left renal carcinoma among 54 patients with colonic carcinomas. The accuracy of location of CT colonography was 100%. There were 9 cases that CT showed the tumor location was different from the finding of conventional colonoscopy, while all of the CT location were proven exact by operation. CT colonography also displayed the infiltration of serous layer and fatty tissue in 45 cases; 21 cases matched the pathological results in all the 24 cases of suspicious lymph node metastasis, the sensitivity was 87.5%, the specificity was 90.6%; 9 cases hepatic metastasis, 2 ovarian metastasis, and 1 double adrenal gland metastasis. Conclusions Multislice helical CT colonography is effective in preoperative diagnosis, location, stage, and making treatment plan of colorectal carcinoma. It can display the portion not seen during colonoscopy and may have an adjunctive role.

Cryptochromes （CRYs） are blue and UV light photoreceptors, known to play key roles in circadian rhythms and in the light-dependent magnetosensitivity of insects. Two novel cryptochrome genes were cloned from the brown planthopper, and were given the designations of Nlcryl and Nlcry2, with the accession numbers KM108578 and KM108579 in GenBank. The complementary DNA sequences ofNlcryl andNlcry2 are 1935 bp and 2463 bp in length, and they contain an open reading frame of 1629 bp and 1872 bp, encoding amino acids of 542 and 623, with a predicted molecular weight of 62.53 kDa and 70.60 kDa, respectively. Well-conserved motifs such as DNA-photolyase and FAD-binding-7 domains were observed in Nlcry1 and Nlcry2. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated the proteins of Nlcry1 and Nlcry2 to be clustered into the insect＇s cryptochrome 1 and cryptochrome 2, respectively. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction showed that the daily oscillations of messenger RNA （mRNA） expression in the head of the brown planthopper were mild for Nlcryl, and modest for Nlcry2. Throughout all developmental stages, Nlcryl and Nlcry2 exhibited extreme fluctuations and distinctive expression profiles. Cryptochrome mRNA expression peaked immediately after adult emergence and then decreased subsequently. The tissue expression profiles of newly emerged brown planthopper adults showed higher expression levels of CRYs in the head than in the thorax or abdomen, as well as significantly higher levels of CRYs in the heads of the macropterous strain than in the heads of the brachypterous strain. Taken together, the results of our study suggest that the two cryptochrome genes characterized in the brown planthopper might be associated with developmental physiology and migration.
