Clustering Property of Wolf-Rayet Galaxies in the SDSS

We have analysed, for the first time, the clustering properties of Wolf-Rayet （W-R） galaxies, using a large sample of 846 W-R galaxies selected from the Data Release 4 （DR4） of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey （SDSS）. We compute the cross-correlation function between W- R galaxies and a reference sample of galaxies drawn from the DR4. We compare the function to the results for control samples of non-W-R star-forming galaxies that are matched closely in redshift, luminosity, concentration, 4000-A break strength and specific star formation rate （SSFR）. On scales larger than a few Mpc, W-R galaxies have almost the same clustering amplitude as the control samples, indicating that W-R galaxies and non-W-R control galaxies populate dark matter haloes of similar masses. On scales between 0.1-1 h^-1 Mpc, W-R galaxies are less clustered than the control samples, and the size of the difference depends on the SSFR. Based on both observational and theoretical considerations, we speculate that this negative bias can be interpreted by W-R galaxies residing preferentially at the centers of their dark matter haloes. We examine the distribution of W-R galaxies more closely using the SDSS galaxy group catalogue of Yang et al., and find that -82% of our W-R galaxies are the central galaxies of groups, compared to -74% for the corresponding control galaxies. We find that W-R galaxies are hosted, on average, by dark matter haloes of masses of 10^12.3M⊙, compared to 10^12.1M⊙ for centrally-located W-R galaxies and 10^12.7M⊙ for satellite ones. We would like to point out that this finding, which provides a direct observational support to our conjecture, is really very crude due to the small number of W-R galaxies and the incompleteness of the group catalogue, and needs more work in future with larger samples.

We report the discovery of a peculiar X-ray transient,EP240408a,by Einstein Probe （EP） and follow-up studies made with EP,Swift,NICER,GROND,ATCA and other ground-based multiwavelength *** new transient was first detected with Wide-field X-ray Telescope （WXT） on board EP on April 8th,2024,manifested in an intense yet brief X-ray flare lasting for *** flare reached a peak flux of 3.9×10-9erg cm-2s-1in 0.5-4 ke V,～300 times brighter than the underlying X-ray emission detected throughout the *** and more precise follow-up observations by EP/FXT,Swift and NICER confirmed the finding of this new *** X-ray spectrum is non-thermal in 0.5-10 ke V,with a power-law photon index varying *** X-ray light curve shows a plateau lasting for ～4 d,followed by a steep decay till becoming undetectable ～10 d after the initial *** on its temporal property and constraints from previous EP observations,an unusual timescale in the range of 7-23 d is found for EP240408a,which is intermediate between the commonly found fast and long-term *** counterparts have been found in optical and near-infrared,with the earliest observation at 17 h after the initial X-ray detection,suggestive of intrinsically weak emission in these *** demonstrate that the remarkable properties of EP240408a are inconsistent with any of the transient types known so far,by comparison with,in particular,jetted tidal disruption events,gamma-ray bursts,X-ray binaries and fast blue optical *** nature of EP240408a thus remains an *** suggest that EP240408a may represent a new type of transients with intermediate timescales of the order of～10 *** detection and follow-ups of more of such objects are essential for revealing their origin.

Exploring the effects of sowing date and ecological points on the yield of semi-winter wheat is of great *** study aims to reveal the effects of sowing date and ecological points on the climate resources associated with wheat yield in the Rice–Wheat Rotation *** six sowing dates,the experiments were carried out in Donghai and Jianhu counties,Jiangsu Province,China using two semi-winter wheat varieties as the objects of this *** basic seedlings of the first sowing date (S1) were planted at 300×10^(4)plants ha^(-1),which was increased by 10%for each of the delayed sowing dates (S2–S6).The results showed that the delay of sowing date decreased the number of days,the effective accumulated temperature and the cumulative solar radiation in the whole growth *** yields of S1 were higher than those of S2 to S6 by 0.22–0.31,0.5–0.78,0.86–0.98,1.14–1.38,and 1.36–1.59 t ha^(–1),*** a given sowing date,the growth days increased as the ecological point was moved north,while both mean daily temperature and effective accumulative temperature decreased,but the cumulative radiation *** a result,the yields at Donghai County were 0.01–0.39 t ha–1lower than those of Jianhu County for the six sowing *** effective accumulative temperature and cumulative radiation both had significant positive correlations with *** average temperature was significantly negatively correlated with the *** decrease in grain yield was mainly due to the declines in grains per spike and 1 000-grain weight caused by the increase in the daily temperature and the decrease in the effective accumulative temperature.

Background:Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)undergoing surgical resection still have a high 5-year recurrence rate(~60%).With the development of laparoscopic hepatectomy(LH),few studies have compared the efficacy between LH and traditional surgical approach on *** objective of this study was to establish a nomo-gram to evaluate the risk of recurrence in HCC patients who underwent ***:The clinical data of 432 patients,pathologically diagnosed with HCC,underwent LH as initial treatment and had surgical margin>1 cm were *** significance of their clinicopathological features to recurrence-free survival(RFS)was assessed,based on which a nomogram was constructed using a training cohort(n=324)and was internally validated using a temporal validation cohort(n=108).Results:Hepatitis B surface antigen(hazard ratio[HR],1.838;P=0.044),tumor number(HR,1.774;P=0.003),tumor thrombus(HR,2.356;P=0.003),cancer cell differentiation(HR,0.745;P=0.080),and microvascular tumor invasion(HR,1.673;P=0.007)were found to be independent risk factors for RFS in the training cohort,and were used for con-structing the *** C-index for RFS prediction in the training cohort using the nomogram was 0.786,which was higher than that of the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer TNM classification(C-index,0.698)and the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system(C-index,0.632).A high consistency between the nomogram prediction and actual observation was also demonstrated by a calibration *** improved predictive benefit in RFS and higher threshold probability of the nomogram were determined by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis,which was also confirmed in the validation cohort compared to other ***:We constructed and validated a nomogram able to quantify the risk of recurrence after initial LH for HCC patients,which can be clinically implemented in assisting the planification of individual postoperative surveil-lance

Various SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses have been increasingly identified in pangolins,showing a potential threat to *** we report the infectivity and pathogenicity of the SARS-CoV-2-related virus,PCoV-GX/P2V,which was isolated from a Malayan pangolin(Manis javanica).PCoV-GX/P2V could grow in human hepatoma,colorectal adenocarcinoma cells,and human primary nasal epithelial *** replicated more efficiently in cells expressing human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(hACE2)as SARS-CoV-2 *** intranasal inoculation to the hACE2-transgenic mice,PCoV-GX/P2V not only replicated in nasal turbinate and lungs,but also caused interstitial pneumonia,characterized by infiltration of mixed inflammatory cells and multifocal alveolar *** population immunity established by SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination may not protect people from PCoV-GX/P2V *** findings further verify the hACE2 utility of PCoV-GX/P2V by in vivo experiments using authentic viruses and highlight the importance for intensive surveillance to prevent possible cross-species transmission.

Background:A new staging system for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)associated with portal vein tumor thrombus(PVTT)was developed by incorporating the good points of the BCLC classification of HCC,and by improving on the currently existing classifications of HCC associated with ***:Univariate and multivariate analysis with Waldχ2 test were used to determinate the clinical prognostic factors for overall survival(OS)in patients with HCC and PVTT in the training *** the conditional inference trees analysis was applied to establish a new staging ***:A training cohort of 2,179 patients from the Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital and a validation cohort of 1,550 patients from four major liver centers in China were enrolled into establishing and validating a new staging *** system was established by incorporating liver function,general health status,tumor resectability,extrahepatic metastasis and extent of *** staging system had a good discriminatory ability to separate patients into different stages and *** median OS for the two cohorts were 57.1(37.2-76.9),12.1(11.0-13.2),5.7(5.1-6.2),4.0(3.3-4.6)and 2.5(1.7-3.3)months for the stages 0 to IV,respectively(P<0.001)in the training *** corresponding figures for the validation cohort were 6.4(4.9-7.9),2.8(1.3-4.4),10.8(9.3-12.4),and 1.5(1.3-1.7)months for the stages II to IV,respectively(P<0.001).The mean survival for stage 0 to 1 were 37.6(35.9-39.2)and 30.4(27.4-33.4),respectively(P<0.001).Conclusions:A new staging system was established which provided a good discriminatory ability to separate patients into different stages and substages after *** can be used to supplement the other HCC staging systems.

Lower hybrid current drive experiments on the HT-7 device have been carried out by scanning the following parameters: central line averaged electron density (ne = 0.6 - 2.0 × 1019m-3) and toroidal magnetic field (Bt = 1.62 - 2.0 T). The dependence of current drive efficiency on these parameters has been studied and the experimental curves of current drive efficiency as a function of ne and Bt have also been obtained. From these experimental results, it can be seen that current drive efficiency rises with the increase of toroidal magnetic field. As plasma density increases, the current drive efficiency first increases to a certain value, then gradually decreases, that is, there exists an optimized density regime where a better drive efficiency can be obtained. The analysis shows that the current drive efficiency is mainly affected by wave accessibility and impurity concentration, and the competition of these two factors determines the current drive efficiency.
