Te-Pei Feng(冯德培,1907–1995),was a famous Chinese neurophysiologist and also one of the pioneers of modern physiological researches in China(Fig.1).He mainly studied chemical transmission at the neuromuscular junction,the biological characteristic of high and low contraction speed muscles,and the long-term potentiation(LTP)function of the brain(Jin,2007).Richard Wuyin Tsien(钱永佑)of Stanford University highly valued Feng’s contributions to neurology in China,stating that,“It is safe to say that the past and the future of neuroscience in China would be very different had professor Feng not provided leadership,by dint of organization,persuasion and strong personal example.Moreover,Feng’s remarkable life and career spanned a lengthy epoch of history,in both the world and scientific arenas。

Plasmonic nanomaterials are sources of light,heat and electrons at nanometer scale.Given the outstanding performance in harvesting and converting solar energy under visible light irradiation,hybrid nanomaterials with plasmonic activity have recently emerged as a new class of advanced photocatalysts.Because of the enhanced charge-separation at hybrid interfaces,the hybrids usually exhibit higher catalytic activity compared with their monometallic counterparts.Here,we review the recent progress on synthesis of plasmonic hybrid nanomaterials and their applications in photocatalysis,including H2 production,CO_(2) reduction and N2 fixation.We hope this review will give systematic and valuable reference on plasmonic solar to chemical energy conversion.

The microstructure evolution and precipitation behavior of Al-Mg-Si alloy during initial aging were studied using hardness testing, conductivity testing, differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM). The results show that the precipitation sequence of the Al-Mg-Si alloy during initial aging can be represented as: supersaturated solid solution → spherical Mg/Si clusters → needle-like Guinier Preston(GP) zone → β″. Clusters are completely coherent with the Al matrix. The GP zone with relatively complete independent lattice parameters that differ slightly from the Al matrix parameters, is oriented along the direction of Aland lying on {111}Alplane. The strength of the Al-Mg-Si alloy is greatly enhanced by the threedimensional strain field that exists between the β″ phase and the two {200}Alplanes. After aging at 170 ℃ for 6 h, the hardness reaches the peak of 127 HV and remains for a long time. At this stage, the electrical conductivity keeps relatively stable due to the formation of coherent precipitates(Mg/Si clusters/GP zones) and the reduction in solute atom concentration in the Al matrix. The severe coarsening and decreased number density of the β″ phase during the over-aging stage result in a significant decrease in the hardness.

The rise of high-speed railway induces an increased probability of serious derailment accidents of operating high-speed trains during earthquakes.A two-and-half-dimensional finite element model(2.5D FEM)was developed to investigate the ground vibration under combined seismic and high-speed train loads.Numerical examples were demonstrated and the proposed method was turned out to provide an effective means for estimating ground vibration caused by high-speed train load during earthquakes.The dynamic ground displacement caused by combined seismic and high-speed train loads increases with the increase of the train speed,and decreases with the increase of the stiffness of ground soil.Compared with the seismic load alone,the coupling effect of the seismic and high-speed train loads results in the low-frequency amplification of ground vibration.The moving train load dominants the medium–high frequency contents of the ground vibration induced by combined loads.It is observed that the coupling effects are significant as the train speed is higher than a critical speed.The critical train speed increases with the increase of the ground stiffness and the intensity of the input earthquake motion.

Experimental study on shock interaction control of double wedge in high-enthalpy hypersonic flow subject to plasma synthetic jet

The hypersonic shock-shock interaction flow field at double-wedge geometries controlled by plasma synthetic jet actuator is experimentally studied in a Ma = 8 high-enthalpy shock tunnel with the purpose of exploring a novel technique for reducing surface heat flux in a real flight environment. The results demonstrate that increasing the discharge energy is advantageous in eliminating the shock wave, shifting the shock wave interaction point, and shortening the control response time. The oblique shock wave can be completely removed when the actuator's discharge energy grows from 0.4 J to 11.5 J, and the displacement of the shock wave interaction point increases by 124.56%, while the controlled response time is shortened by 30 μs. Besides, the reduction in diameter of the jet exit is firstly proved to have a negative impact on energy deposition in a working environment with incoming flow, which reduces the discharge energy and hence decreases the control effect. The shock wave control response time lengthens when the jet exits away from the second wedge. Along with comparing the change in wall heat flux at the second wedge over time, the control effect of plasma synthetic jet actuator with and without inflation is also analyzed. When plasma synthetic jet works in inflatable mode, both the ability to eliminate shock waves and the shifting effect of the shock wave interaction point are increased significantly, and the wall heat flux is also reduced.

Developing wheat that acquires and uses phosphorus(P)more efficiently is a promising and low-cost solution for increasing grain yield and reducing P-related environmental impacts.The present study identified agronomic and physiological traits that contribute to genetic variation in the P acquisition,remobilization,and utilization efficiency of 11 wheat cultivars from southwest China grown in P-deficient purple lithomorphic soil(Olsen P=4.7)with balanced(75 kg P ha^(−1))and excess P(120 kg P ha^(−1))supplies.On average,soil P deficiency(–P)reduced root P uptake(17.0%–60.8%),P remobilization(33.9%–52.8%),dry mass yield(11.5%–39.2%),and grain yield(17.7%–54.4%).Balanced P(+P)increased grain yield via increased plant biomass rather than increased HI.–P increased phosphorus uptake efficiency(PUpE,4.5-fold),phosphorus utilization efficiency(PUtE,1.25-fold),and phosphorus use efficiency(PUE,5.4-fold)compared with those under+P,and PUtE explained most(58.1%–60.8%)of the genetic variation in PUE under both–P and+P.The high root P uptake of P-efficient cultivars under–P was regulated by root surface area and root length density in the 0–10 cm soil layer but not in the 10–20 and 20–40 cm soil layers,suggesting that a topsoil foraging strategy is a more economical approach than deeper root exploration for increasing P uptake.Root P uptake before anthesis and P remobilization after anthesis were critical for increasing the PUtE of wheat,given that P-efficient cultivars showed higher Pn(net photosynthetic rate)and sucrose levels than P-inefficient cultivars.Pn reduction by–P resulted from decreased Gs and Ci,and high evapotranspiration under+P increased shoot P%by increasing root P uptake.Genetic variation in the source-to-sink ratio was observed in consequence of a+P-induced allometric increase in sucrose in leaves and kernels.Owing to these beneficial effects,+P increased the kernel N and P yields of the 11 cultivars by 9.9%–52.4%and 12.3%–48.8%,respectively.The findings of this study could help improve wheat in future breed

Tumor chemoprevention and treatment are two approaches aimed at improving the survival of patients with cancers.An ideal anti-tumor drug is that which not only kills tumor cells but also alleviates tumor-causing risk factors,such as precancerous lesions,and prevents tumor recurrence.Chinese herbal monomers are considered to be ideal treatment agents due to their multi-target effects.Astragaloside has been shown to possess tumor chemoprevention,direct anti-tumor,and chemotherapeutic drug sensitization effects.In this paper,we review the effects of astragaloside on tumor prevention and treatment and provide directions for further research.

Background: Solid organ transplant (SOT) activities, such as liver transplant, have been greatly influenced by the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Immunosuppressed individuals of liver transplant recipients (LTRs) tend to have a high risk of COVID-19 infection and related complications. Therefore, COVID-19 vaccination has been recommended to be administered as early as possible in LTRs. Data sources: The keywords "liver transplant", "SARS-CoV-2", and "vaccine" were used to retrieve articles published in PubMed. Results: The antibody response following the 1st and 2nd doses of vaccination was disappointingly low, and the immune responses among LTRs remarkably improved after the 3rd or 4th dose of vaccination. Although the 3rd or 4th dose of COVID-19 vaccine increased the antibody titer, a proportion of patients remained unresponsive. Furthermore, recent studies showed that SARS-CoV-2 vaccine could trigger adverse events in LTRs, including allograft rejection and liver injury. Conclusions: This review provides the recently reported data on the antibody response of LTRs following various doses of vaccine, risk factors for poor serological response and adverse events after vaccination.
