Chondroblastoma in the long bone diaphysis:a report of two cases with literature review

To investigate the clinical characteristics of chondroblastoma with an emphasis on lesions located in the long bone diaphysis,we reviewed the clinical data of 7 patients with histologically proven chondroblastoma treated in tianjin Medical University Cancer Hospital and Fudan University Cancer Hospital between January 1995 and May 2009.There were two rare cases of chondroblastoma in the long bone diaphysis.One patient with a lesion in the tibial diaphysis underwent intralesional curettage and bone grafting,and the postoperative bone function was measured as excellent according to the Enneking scoring system.The patient was still alive upon follow-up at 60 months.The other patient with a lesion in the humeral diaphysis underwent resection,and the postoperative bone function was excellent at 48 months,at which there was no evidence of recurrence or metastasis.Thus,except for the distinctive site of the long bone diaphysis,which made diagnosis difficult,the patients' ages,symptoms,X-ray and CT images,treatment,and prognosis were in accordance with typical lesions in the epiphysis and metaphysis.The diagnosis of chondroblastoma in the long bone diaphysis significantly depends on histopathologic characteristics.

Hydrogenation reaction is one of the pillars of the chemical industry for the synthesis of drugs and fine chemicals.To achieve high catalytic performance,it is still highly desirable for constructing novel supported metal catalysts.Different from conventional supports like metal oxides,zeolites and carbon materials,metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)as the emerging porous materials have exhibited great potential to host metal nanoparticles(NPs)for achieving hydrogenation reactions with high catalytic efficiency,due to their unique porous structures.Recently,many progresses have been made,and thus,it is necessary to summarize the recent progresses on confining metal NPs inside MOFs for hydrogenation reactions.In this review,we first introduced the general synthesis methods for confining noble metal NPs inside MOFs.Then,the applications of noble metal NPs/MOFs catalysts in hydrogenation reactions were summarized,and the synergistic catalytic performances among noble metal NPs,metal nodes,functional groups,and pore channels in MOFs were illustrated.Subsequently,the hydrogen spillover effect involved in the hydrogenation reactions was discussed.Finally,we provide an outlook on the future research directions and challenges of confining noble metal NPs inside MOFs for hydrogenation reactions.

The detailed structures of the volcanic edifice and plumbing system of the early Permian Tarim flood basalt were investigated by three-dimensional seismic imaging. The images show that the Tarim flood basalt erupted from central volcanoes distributed along major faults. The uppermost magma formed a single lava lobe with a volume of *0.74 km3 and an aspect ratio of 50,implying a sheet flow eruption with a high effusion rate. At the subsurface level, all central volcanoes, irrespective of size, had a separate pipe-like feeder vent. Only thirteen dikes were identified at shallow depths of \100 m below the lava surface; deeper dikes were even rarer. The pipelike plumbing system and the paucity of dilational dikes were different from the typical plumbing system of flood basalt provinces on Earth, which are normally buoyancycontrolled dike–sill networks. A gas-driven vigorous eruption can be inferred from the imaged structure, which means that the Tarim flood basalt may have carried and released a large proportion of volcanic gas, similar to some mafic volcaniclastic deposit-bearing continental flood basalt provinces.

Identifying potential flavonoid biosynthesis regulator in Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim. by genome-wide characterization of the MYB transcription factor gene family

Plant MYB transcription factors(TFs) play crucial roles in regulating the biosynthesis of flavonoids but current analysis on their role in Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim.(ZBM) is far from comprehensive. In this study, we identified 270 MYB genes in ZBM and divided them into four subfamilies. The R2 R3-MYB(ZbMYB) category contained 251 genes and was classified into 33 subfamilies according to their phylogenetic results and sequence similarity. These subfamilies included 24 subgroups containing both MYBs of ZBM plants and AtMYBs, and nine subgroups containing only ZBM MYBs or AtMYBs. ZbMYBs with similar functions clustered into the same subgroup, indicating functional conservation. The subcellular localization analysis predicted that most ZbMYB genes were found in the nucleus. The transposed duplications appeared to play a major role in the expansion of the MYB gene family in ZBM. Through phylogenetic analysis and transcriptome profiling, it was found that 28 ZbMYB genes may regulate the biosynthesis of flavonoids in ZBM, and these genes expression presented distinct temporal and spatial expression patterns. In different fruit development stages of ZBM, the expression patterns of EVM0042160 and EVM0033809 genes obtained by qRT-PCR analysis are very similar to the flavonoid and anthocyanin content curves in ZBM. Further correlation analysis showed that the content of flavonoids in different fruit development stages and the transcript abundance levels of 28 ZbMYB genes have different degrees of correlation relationship. These results indicated that the ZbMYB genes might be involved in the flavonoid metabolic pathway. This comprehensive and systematic analysis of MYB family genes provided a solid foundation for further functional analysis of MYB TFs in ZBM.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies. The poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer patients is mainly attributed to low diagnostic rate at the early stage, highly aggressive nature coupled with the inadequate efficacy of current chemotherapeutic regimens. Novel therapeutic strategies are urgently needed for pancreatic cancer. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important regulatory role in key processes of cancer development. The aberrant expression of miRNAs is often involved in the initiation, progression, and metastasis of pancreatic cancer. The discovery of tumor suppressor miRNAs provides prospects for the development of a novel treatment strategy for pancreatic cancer. We reviewed recent progress on the understanding of the role of miRNAs in pancreatic cancer, highlighted the efficient application of miRNAs-based therapies for pancreatic cancer in animal models and clinical trials, and proposed future prospects. This review focuses on the promise of integrating miRNAs into the treatment of pancreatic cancer and provides guidance for the development of precision medicine for pancreatic cancer.

Electronic voting has partially solved the problems of poor anonymity and low efficiency associated with traditional voting.However,the difficulties it introduces into the supervision of the vote counting,as well as its need for a concurrent guaranteed trusted third party,should not be overlooked.With the advent of blockchain technology in recent years,its features such as decentralization,anonymity,and non-tampering have made it a good candidate in solving the problems that electronic voting faces.In this study,we propose a multi-candidate voting model based on the blockchain technology.With the introduction of an asymmetric encryption and an anonymity-preserving voting algorithm,votes can be counted without relying on a third party,and the voting results can be displayed in real time in a manner that satisfies various levels of voting security and privacy requirements.Experimental results show that the proposed model solves the aforementioned problems of electronic voting without significant negative impact from an increasing number of voters or candidates.

Background:Acer griseum Pax is an endangered species endemic to China with both ornamental and economic value.However,the lack of information on its genome size and characteristics hinders further work at the genome level.Methods:This paper applied bioinformatics methods to predict the characteristics and patterns of the A.griseum genome,providing an important basis for formulating its whole-genome sequencing scheme.This study also characterized the simple sequence repeats(SSRs)of A.griseum,laying the foundation for the development and application of genome-wide SSR markers.In this study,PE150 sequencing was performed by the BGI MGISEQ platform,and the sequence files were analyzed by the K-mer method to estimate the characteristic information by GCE software.Results:The genome size was finally determined to be 739.63 Mb,its heterozygosity ratio was 1.33%,and the repetition ratio was 65.68%.A total of 825,960 SSR loci were identified in the assembled genome sequence,and primers were successfully designed for 526,020 loci.To verify the effectiveness of these primers,100 pairs of primers were randomly selected and synthesized,and 81 pairs successfully amplified the target fragments.Fourteen pairs of primers with good polymorphism were selected for principal component analysis of 31 A.griseum individuals from two populations,showing favorable heterozygosity and PIC values.According to the findings,these SSRs might identify genetic variations based on geographic areas.Conclusion:It is suggested that Illumina+PacBio assembly strategy should be used for whole-genome sequencing due to the high heterozygosity rate and high repetition rate of the genome.In addition,the SSR primers designed in batches in this study laid a foundation for the in-depth study of population structure and population maintenance mechanism of A.griseum,which is helpful for the effective conservation and sustainable utilization of this germplasm resource.

Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia leading to cardiogenic stroke.Without membranous sructure between epicardial adipose tissue and atrial myocardium,epicardial adipose tissue directly covers the surface of the atrial myocardium.The formation of an epicardial adipose tissue inflammatory microenvironment,fibrosis,infiltration by epicardial adipose tissue,autonomic dysfunction and oxidative stress are important mechanisms that trigger and maintain atrial fibrillation.Those mechanisms are reviewed herein.
