Severe pathological manifestation of cerebral amyloid angiopathy correlates with poor outcome from cerebral amyloid angiopathy related intracranial hemorrhage

Background Cerebral amyloid angiopathy （CAA） is one of the main causes of spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage （ICH）. No established link is available between pathological scores of CAA and its outcome. This study aimed to identify the correlations between pathological severity and poor postoperative outcome in the Chinese population. Methods Between May 2006 and April 2011, 367 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for CAA-related ICH in 71 hospitals throughout the mainland of China were enrolled in this study. Twelve months after surgery, we evaluated these patients＇ outcomes according to the modified Rankin Scale （mRS） and statistically correlated risk factors （demographics, medical history, pathological results, and surgical details） that are associated with a favorable （mRS 〈3） and poor （mRS 〉3） outcome groups. Results Risk factors for poor postoperative outcome in 367 patients with CAA-related ICH included advanced age （OR 1.034, 95% CI 1.001-1.067, P=0.042）, CAA pathology severity （OR 2.074, 95% CI 7.140-16.25, P 〈0.001）, lobar hematoma （OR 0.225, 95% CI 0.104-0.486, P 〈0.001）, presence of intraventricular hemorrhage （OR 0.478, 95% CI 0.229-1.001, P=0.050）, and/or subarachnoid hemorrhage （OR 2.629, 95% CI, 1.051-6,577, P=0.039）. Conclusions Poor postoperative outcome of patients with CAA-related ICH was more related to the severe pathological manifestation instead of other factors. Prior ischemia may present an early stage of CAA.

Synthesis, structure and photocatalysis properties of two 3D Isostructural Ln (Ⅲ)-MOFs based 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid

Two new 3 D metal-organic frameworks（MOFs） named [Pr2（PDA）3-3 H2 O]-H2 O（1） and[Nd2（PDA）3-3 H2 O] H2 O（2） [2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid（H2 PDA）] were synthesized by solvothermal method. They were characterized by elemental analyses（EA）, infrared spectroscopy（FT-IR）, thermogravimetric analysis（TG）, photocatalysis performance and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies（XRD）.The XRD analysis indicated that MOFs（1） and（2） both belong to the monoclinic system with space group P2（1）/C. The structural model were drawn by the diamond software, and the structure revel that MOFs（1） and（2） adopt three-dimensional（3 D） frameworks constructed by cross-linking of one-dimensional（1 D） infinite chain secondary building unit（SBU） by 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid and hydrogen bond as linker. These frameworks feature channels inside which coordinated H20 solvent molecules are located. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that both MOFs are thermally stable, the photocatalytic evaluation showed the materials have a good prospect in degration methylene blue. As for complex1, the decomposition efficiency of Methylene blue was about 91.08% after 130 min and the complex 2 reach 90.45% after 160 min under the sun light.

Temperature‐dependent electric field distribution in±800 kV valve‐side bushing insulation for a converter transformer

The electric field distribution is determined for the design and long‐term performance of bushing yet gets complicated when coupled with temperature due to the highly tem-perature‐dependent conductivity of insulation.An electrothermal coupling model is established based on a�800 kV converter transformer valve‐side bushing.The measured temperature‐dependent conductivity of insulation is adopted and fitted.The electric field distribution inside a condenser core under the influence of temperature was investigated,and the related mechanism was analysed,considering the different voltage forms,loading currents,and changeable ambient conditions.The temperature gradient within the condenser core is verified,and the electric field migration is observed.It is indicated that the electric field strength shows a strong dependence on temperature and increases along the radial direction.The maximum field strength appears at the outmost shield layer under the operating voltage and the load current 4500 A,which is higher than that under the DC long‐term withstand voltage of 1455 kV without thermal stress.The increased load current,decreased oil temperature,and enhanced valve hall temperature will lead to more serious electric field distortion,and unacceptable dielectric stress may occur.More attention should be paid to the design and operation of bushing for DC applications.

Hydrogen-rich saline protects against ultraviolet B radiation injury in rats

Exposure of skin to solar ultraviolet（UV） radiation induces photo-damage.Ultraviolet B（UVB） is the major component of UV radiation which induces the production of reactive oxygen species（ROS） and plays an impor-tant role in photo-damage.Hydrogen gas reduces ROS and alleviates inflammation.In this study,we sought to demonstrate that hydrogen-rich saline has the effect on skin injuries caused by UVB radiation.UVB radiation was irradiated on female C57BL/6 rats to induce skin injury.Hydrogen-rich saline and nitrogen-rich saline were ad-ministered to rats by intraperitoneal injection.Skin damage was detected by microscope after injury.UVB radia-tion had a significant affection in tumor necrosis factor alpha,interleukin（IL）-1β and IL-6 levels,tissue superox-ide dismutase,malondialdehyde and nitric oxide activity.Hydrogen-rich saline had a protective effect by altering the levels of these markers and relieved morphological skin injury.Hydrogen-rich saline protected against UVB radiation injury,possibly by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

Iron ore tailings used for the preparation of cementitious material by compound thermal activation

In the background of little reuse and large stockpile for iron ore tailings, iron ore tailing from Chinese Tonghua were used as raw material to prepare cementitious materials. Cementitious properties of the iron ore tailings activated by compound thermal activation were studied. Testing methods, such as XRD, TG-DTA, and IR were used for researching the phase and structure variety of the iron ore railings in the process of compound thermal activation. The results reveal that a new cementitious material that contains 30wt% of the iron ore tailings can be obtained by compounded thermal activation, whose mortar strength can come up to the standard of 42.5 cement of China.

Onshore-offshore wind energy resource evaluation based on synergetic use of multiple satellite data and meteorological stations in Jiangsu Province,China

The demand for efficient and cost-effective renewable energy is increasing as traditional sources of energy such as oil,coal,and natural gas,can no longer satisfy growing global energy demands.Among renewable energies,wind energy is the most prominent due to its low, manageable impacts on the local environment.Based on meteorological data from 2006 to 2014 and multi-source satellite data (i.e.,Advanced Scatterometer,Quick Scatterometer,and Windsat)from 1999 to 2015,an assessment of the onshore and offshore wind energy potential in Jiangsu Province was performed by calculating the average wind speed,average wind direction,wind power density, and annual energy production (AEP).Results show that Jiangsu has abundant wind energy resources,which increase from inland to coastal areas.In-onshore areas, wind power density is predominantly less than 200 W/m^2, while in offshore areas,wind power density is concentrates in the range of 328-500 W/m^2.Onshore areas comprise more than 13,573.24 km^2,mainly located in eastern coastal regions with good wind farm potential The total wind power capacity in onshore areas could be as much as 2.06×10^5 GWh.Meanwhile,offshore wind power generation in Jiangsu Province is calculated to reach 2×10^6 GWh, which is approximately four times the electricity demand of the entire Jiangsu Province.This study validates the effective application of Advanced Scatterometer,Quick Scatterometer,and Windsat data to coastal wind energy monitoring in Jiangsu.Moreover,the methodology used in this study can be effectively applied to other similar coastal zones.

An Effective Method to Prepare Polymer/Nanocrystal Composites with Tunable Emission over the Whole Visible Light Range

Materials with emission over the whole visible range(400-800 nm)have been obtained through incorporating single-colored CdTe nanocrystals(NCs)into a poly(p-phenylene vinylene)(PPV)precursor[the sulfonium polyelectrolyte precursor of PPV].Firstly,the quantum yield(QY)of the PPV precursor was improved to~50%via heat treatment of a mixed solution of the PPV precursor and poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)at 100°C for 3 min.Then,single-colored CdTe NCs were incorporated into the mixed solution.The introduction of the PVA was necessary to reduce the electrostatic interaction between the PPV precursor and CdTe NCs,which improved their compatibility.The reduced electrostatic interaction eliminated Förster resonance energy transfer(FRET)processes between NCs,as well as between NCs and the PPV precursor,which allowed the functional integration of the polymer and NCs.Consequently,polymer/NC composites with almost any Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage(CIE)coordinates can be achieved by simply changing the size and amount of the NCs.In particular,when the emission wavelength of the CdTe NCs was 559 nm,a pure white-light emitting material with CIE coordinates(0.337,0.332)was obtained.

Effects of pneumoperitoneum of laparoscopic cholecystectomy on the coagulation system of patients： a prospective observational study

BacKground Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been widely used in clinical practice during the recent decades; however, the effects of pneumoperitoneum and the surgery on the coagulation system are largely unknown. This clinical study aimed to observe any possible effects of pneumoperitoneum and the surgery on the coagulation system of patients. Methods This was a prospective observational study. The inclusion criteria included （1） patients with chronic cholecystitis and/or cholecystic polyps and （2） patients in the relief stage of acute cholecystitis. The exclusion criteria included （1） patients in the episodic stage of acute cholecystitis and those complicated with cholangiolithiasis; （2） patients with concomitant hematologic diseases, damages to the liver function, malignant tumors or immune system diseases, or patients complicated with thrombotic or hemorrhagic disorders; and （3） patients who had taken anticoagulant medication within a week before surgery. Fifty patients who were hospitalized into our department for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy between November 2011 and February 2013 were eligible and enrolled into this study. Of the 50 patients, 22 were male and 28 female. The age of the patients ranged from 29 to 78 （mean 56.7±11.5） years. The surgery for each of the 50 patients was performed with the same equipment and conditions. The surgeries for all the patients were performed under general anesthesia with the patients in a 30-degree head-up tilted posture, and the pressure of pneumoperitoneum was maintained at 13 mmHg. Venous blood specimens were taken from each patient before and at the end of pneumoperitoneum （i.e., 0 hour after surgery） and at 8 hours after surgery for determination of prothrombin time （PT）, activated partial thromboplastin time （APTT）, fibrinogen （Fib）, thrombin time （TT）, and D-dimer （DD）. Synthesis and Magnetic Properties of Polyamide Complex Containing Bithiazole Moieties

A new polyamide containing bithiazole moieties （PTA） was synthesized by the polycondensation of 2, 2＇-diamino-4, 4＇-bithiazole （DABT） and oxalyl chloride. The polymer complex was prepared from PTA and NdC13 in DMSO. They were characterized through IR and elemental analysis. The preliminary magnetic properties of the complex PTA-Nd^3＋ was investigated, it was found that the material is a ferromagnet at low temperature.

Identification of micro RNAs in six solanaceous plants and their potential link with phosphate and mycorrhizal signalings

To date, only a limited number of solanaceous miRNAs have been deposited in the miRNA database. Here,Rgenome-wide bioinformatic identification of miRNAs was performed in six solanaceous plants（potato, tomato, tobacco,eggplant, pepper, and petunia）. A total of 2,239 miRNAs were identified following a range of criteria, of which 982 were from potato, 496 from tomato, 655 from tobacco, 46 from eggplant,45 were from pepper, and 15 from petunia. The sizes of miRNA families and miRNA precursor length differ in all the species.Accordingly, 620 targets were predicted, which could be functionally classified as transcription factors, metabolic enzymes, RNA and protein processing proteins, and other proteins for plant growth and development. We also showed evidence for miRNA clusters and sense and antisense miR NAs.Additionally, five Pi starvation- and one arbuscular mycorrhiza（AM）-related cis-elements were found widely distributed in the putative promoter regions of the miRNA genes. Selected miRNAs were classified into three groups based on the presence or absence of P1BS and MYCScis-elements, and their expression in response to Pi starvation and AM symbiosis was validated by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction（qRT-PCR）. These results show that conserved miRNAs exist in solanaceous species and they might play pivotal roles in plant growth, development, and stress responses.
