Tumour response following preoperative chemotherapy is affected by body mass index in patients with colorectal liver metastases

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent malignancy globally and ranks second in cancer-related mortality,with the liver being the primary organ of metastasis.Preoperative chemotherapy is widely recommended for initially or potentially resectable colorectal liver metastases(CRLMs).Tumour pathological response serves as the most important and intuitive indicator for assessing the efficacy of chemotherapy.However,the postoperative pathological results reveal that a considerable number of patients exhibit a poor response to preoperative chemotherapy.Body mass index(BMI)is one of the factors affecting the tumori-genesis and progression of colorectal cancer as well as prognosis after various antitumour therapies.Several studies have indicated that overweight and obese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer experience worse prognoses than those with normal weight,particularly when receiving first-line chemotherapy regimens in combination with bevacizumab.AIM To explore the predictive value of BMI regarding the pathologic response following preoperative chemotherapy for CRLMs.METHODS A retrospective analysis was performed in 126 consecutive patients with CRLM who underwent hepatectomy following preoperative chemotherapy at four different hospitals from October 2019 to July 2023.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were applied to analyse potential predictors of tumour pathological response.The Kaplan-Meier method with log rank test was used to compare progression-free survival(PFS)between patients with high and low BMI.BMI<24.0 kg/m^(2) was defined as low BMI,and tumour regression grade 1-2 was defined as complete tumour response.RESULTS Low BMI was observed in 74(58.7%)patients and complete tumour response was found in 27(21.4%)patients.The rate of complete tumour response was significantly higher in patients with low BMI(29.7%vs 9.6%,P=0.007).Multivariate analysis revealed that low BMI[odds ratio(OR)=4.56,95%confidence interval(CI):1.42-14.63,P=0.011],targeted therapy with bevaciz

Design and assembly of a nested imaging X-ray telescope for the Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor mission

The Hot Universe Baryon Surveyor (HUBS) mission will carry a nested X-ray telescope capable of observing an energy range from 0.5 keV to 2 keV to study hot baryon evolution. In this paper, we report the latest progress in the design and construction of nested X-ray telescopes which were designed to use a three-stage conic-approximation type assembly to simplify the manufacturing process. The mirror substrate is made using the thermal glass slumping method, with mirrors characterized by a root-mean-square roughness of 0.3 nm, with expected high reflectivity and good thermal stability. We also discuss methods of telescope construction and conduct a deformation analysis of the manufactured mirror. The in situ measurement system program is developed to guide the telescope assembly process.

PVP/PAN-derived porous carbon fiber for zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors

Porous carbon fibers are promising cathodes for zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors（ZHSs） owing to their abundant active sites,great conductivity,and stable physical and chemical properties.However,designing a proper preparation technique to regulate the microstructure of carbon fibers still remains a great challenge.Here,a poly vinylpyrrolidone/po-lyacry lonitrile（PVP/PAN）-derived porous carbon fiber is developed via the PVP/PAN blend electrospinning and hydrothermal selective PVP removal strategy.The hydrothermal selective PVP removal strategy can effectively avoid a cross-linking between PVP and PAN during the traditional stabilization at air atmosphere.In PVP/PAN-derived porous carbon fiber,the sufficient micropores provide abundant space for the Zn2+storage,whereas the proper mesopores contribute to the fast ion transfer.These hierarchical porous structures endow ZHSs with high specific capacity and high-rate performance.The ZHS assembled with the optimal PVP/PAN-derived porous carbon fiber（PVP-PANC-0.8） displays an outstanding specific capacity of 208 mAh·g-1,high rate capability（49.5%） from 0.5 to 5 A·g-1,and 72.25% capacity retention after 10,000 cycles at 0.5 A·g-1.

WTEYE:On-chain wash trade detection and quantification for ERC20 cryptocurrencies

Wash trade is a common form of volume manipulation used to attract investors into the market and mislead them into making wrong investment judgments.Wash trade transactions are even more prominent in ERC20 cryptocurrencies.In this paper,we proposed two kinds of algorithms to reserve direct evidence of wash trade based on the on-chain transaction data of ERC20 cryptocurrencies.After labeling the wash trade,we continued to obtain features of the wash trade and quantify the volume of the wash trade.Our experiments show that for most ERC20 cryptocurrencies,the rate of wash trade reached over 15%.Specifically,over 30%of UNI token transactions were labeled as wash trade.It is demonstrated that the activations of most ERC20 cryptocurrencies are unreal,and restoring real data is necessary for market regulation.

A blockchain-based transaction system for private data sharing and trading

To address the private data management problems and realize privacy-preserving data sharing,a blockchain-based transaction system named Ecare featuring information transparency,fairness and scalability is proposed.The proposed system formulates multiple private data access control strategies,and realizes data trading and sharing through on-chain transactions,which makes transaction records transparent and immutable.In our system,the private data are encrypted,and the role-based account model ensures that access to the data requires owner’s authorization.Moreover,a new consensus protocol named Proof of Transactions(PoT)proposed by ourselves has been used to improve consensus efficiency.The value of Ecare is not only that it aggregates telemedicine,data transactions,and other features,but also that it translates these actions into transaction events stored in the blockchain,making them transparent and immutable to all participants.The proposed system can be extended to more general big data privacy protection and data transaction scenarios.

This paper provides data envelopment analysis methods based on partially ordered set theory.These methods reveal the special relationships between two decision making units from the perspective of mathematical theory and offer the classification,projection and improvement methods of decision making units.It is proved that an efficient decision making unit must be a maximal element of the related poset,and the maximal element may not be efficient.For this,we introduce the concepts of minimum envelope and efficiency envelope which further reveal the special relationship among efficient and inefficient decision making units.Compared with the previous methods,this method not only reveals theoretically the complex relationship among decision making units and the causes of the ineffectiveness,but also gives a new importance and competitiveness measurement method to each decision making unit.Finally,related algorithm and examples are given for the application of these methods to complex decision making problems.

Geometry and formation mechanism of tension gashes and their implication on the hydrocarbon accumulation in the deep-seated strata of sedimentary basin:A case from Shunnan area of Tarim Basin

With the theoretical and technological developments related to cratonic strike-slip faults,the Shuntuoguole Low Uplift in the Tarim Basin has attracted considerable attention recently.Affected by multi-stage tectonic movements,the strike-slip faults have controlled the distribution of hydrocarbon resources owing to the special fault characteristics and fault-related structures.In contrast,the kinematics and formation mechanism of strike-slip faults in buried sedimentary basins are difficult to investigate,limiting the discussion of these faults and hydrocarbon accumulation.In this study,we identified the characteristics of massive sigmoidal tension gashes(STGs)that formed in the Shunnan area of the Tarim Basin.High-resolution three-dimensional seismic data and attribute analyses were used to investigate their geometric and kinematic characteristics.Then,the stress state of each point of the STGs was calculated using seismic curvature attributes.Finally,the formation mechanism of the STGs and their roles in controlling hydrocarbon migration and accumulation were discussed.The results suggest that:(1)the STGs developed in the Shunnan area have a wide distribution,with a tensile fault arranged in an enéchelon pattern,showing an S-shaped bending.These STGs formed in multiple stages,and differential rotation occurred along the direction of strike-slip stress during formation.(2)Near the principal displacement zone of the strike-slip faults,the stress value of the STGs was higher,gradually decreasing at both ends.The shallow layer deformation was greater than the deep layer deformation.(3)STGs are critical for connecting source rocks,migrating oil and gas,sealing horizontally,and developing efficient reservoirs.This study not only provides seismic evidence for the formation and evolution of super large STGs,but also provides certain guidance for oil and gas exploration in this area.

Parkinson's disease(PD)is characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta(SNpc),accompanied by severe locomotor deficits[1].Deep brain stimulation(DBS)mainly targeting the subthalamic nucleus and the internal segment of the globus pallidus has now been clinically used to improve the motor symptoms of PD patients.However,these targets do not relieve the serious postural instability and freezing of gait.The mesencephalic locomotor region(MLR)plays a key role in controlling locomotion[2,3].

Dimensionality reduction model based on integer planning for the analysis of key indicators affecting life expectancy

Purpose:Exploring a dimensionality reduction model that can adeptly eliminate outliers and select the appropriate number of clusters is of profound theoretical and practical importance.Additionally,the interpretability of these models presents a persistent challenge.Design/methodology/approach:This paper proposes two innovative dimensionality reduction models based on integer programming(DRMBIP).These models assess compactness through the correlation of each indicator with its class center,while separation is evaluated by the correlation between different class centers.In contrast to DRMBIP-p,the DRMBIP-v considers the threshold parameter as a variable aiming to optimally balances both compactness and separation.Findings:This study,getting data from the Global Health Observatory(GHO),investigates 141 indicators that influence life expectancy.The findings reveal that DRMBIP-p effectively reduces the dimensionality of data,ensuring compactness.It also maintains compatibility with other models.Additionally,DRMBIP-v finds the optimal result,showing exceptional separation.Visualization of the results reveals that all classes have a high compactness.Research limitations:The DRMBIP-p requires the input of the correlation threshold parameter,which plays a pivotal role in the effectiveness of the final dimensionality reduction results.In the DRMBIP-v,modifying the threshold parameter to variable potentially emphasizes either separation or compactness.This necessitates an artificial adjustment to the overflow component within the objective function.Practical implications:The DRMBIP presented in this paper is adept at uncovering the primary geometric structures within high-dimensional indicators.Validated by life expectancy data,this paper demonstrates potential to assist data miners with the reduction of data dimensions.Originality/value:To our knowledge,this is the first time that integer programming has been used to build a dimensionality reduction model with indicator filtering.It not only has applications in life expec

Preliminary results of the global ocean tide derived from HY-2A radar altimeter data

The HY-2A satellite,which is equipped with a radar altimeter and was launched on August 16,2011,is the first Chinese marine dynamic environmental monitoring satellite.Extracting ocean tides is one of the important applications of the radar altimeter data.The radar altimeter data of the HY-2A satellite from November 1,2011 to August 16,2014 are used herein to extract global ocean tides.The constants representing the tidal constituents are extracted by HY-2A RA data with harmonic analysis based on the least squares method.Considering tide aliasing issues,the analysis of the alias periods and alias synodic periods of different tidal constituents shows that only the tidal constituents M_(2),N_(2),and K_(2)are retrieved precisely by the HY-2A RA data.The derived tidal constants of the tidal constituents M_(2),N_(2)and K_(2)are compared to those of tidal gauge data and the TPXO tide model results.The comparison between the derived results and the tidal gauge data shows that the RMSEs of the tidal amplitude and phase lag are 9.6 cm and 13.34°,2.4 cm and 10.47°,and 8.1 cm and 14.19°for tidal constituents M_(2),N_(2),and K_(2),respectively.The comparisons of the semidiurnal tides with the TPXO model results show that tidal constituents have good consistency with the TPXO model results.These findings confirm the good performance of HY-2A RA for retrieving semidiurnal tides in the global ocean.
