The impetus for buildings to decarbonize and move towards radical energy and water efficiency is increasingly strong and identified as a priority within the green building *** tiny house movement offers an opportunity to both address the challenges of affordable housing and contribute to residential building *** houses de-emphasize mass consumption and excessive belongings and have potential to address equity issues such as gentrification by providing living spaces to low-income residents in desirable housing *** paper analyzes the Tiny House in my Backyard(THimBY)project,investigating building sustainability concepts through the design-build-occupy process in a three-year-old *** demonstrates energy and water efficiency technologies inside an award-winning small living space(18.5 m^(2)).THimBY was designed to reduce energy and water use by 87 and 82%compared to California residential *** practice,it has reduced site energy by 88%and has emitted 96%fewer carbon emissions than a 2100 square foot California Energy Commission 2016 Title 24 minimally compliant *** discuss the differences between design and performance of energy and water systems,which we find offer important lessons for the further expansion of the tiny house movement and other alternative and micro green housing *** find that optimizing such houses through integration of energy and water saving technologies,home energy management systems,and strong communication between modelers,builders and occupants will be essential to achieving dramatic energy(87%),water(82%),and carbon(96%)savings.

Flat spectrum radio quasars(FSRQs) and BL Lacertae objects(BL Lacs) are powerful jet producing active galactic nuclei associated with supermassive black holes accreting at high and low Eddington rates, respectively. Based on the millennium Simulation, Gardner & Done have predicted their redshift distribution by appealing to ideas from the spin paradigm in a way that exposes a need for a deeper discussion on three interrelated issues:(1) an overprediction of BL Lacs compared to FSRQs;(2) a difference in FSRQ and BL Lac distributions;(3) a need for powerful but different jets at separated cosmic times. Beginning with Gardner & Done's determination of Fermi observable FSRQs based on the distribution of thermal accretion across cosmic time from the millennium Simulation, we connect FSRQs to BL Lacs by way of the gap paradigm for black hole accretion and jet formation to address the above issues in a unified way. we identify a physical constraint in the paradigm for the numbers of BL Lacs that naturally leads to separate peaks in time for different albeit powerful jets. in addition, we both identify as puzzling and ascribe physical significance to a tail end in the BL Lac curve versus redshift that is unseen in the redshift distribution for FSRQs.

Acute ischemic stroke(AiS) is a common medical problem associated with significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. A small proportion of AiS patients meet eligibility criteria for intravenous thrombolysis(iVT) with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator, and its efficacy for large vessel occlusion is poor. Therefore, an increasing number of patients with AiS are being treated with endovascular mechanical thrombectomy when iVT is ineffective or contraindicated. Rapid advancement in catheter-based and endovascular device technology has led to significant improvements in rates of cerebral reperfusion with these devices. Stentrievers and modern aspiration catheters have now surpassed earlier generation devices in the degree and rapidity of revascularization. This progress has been achieved with no concurrent increase in risk of major complications or mortality, both when used alone or in combination with iVT. The initial randomized controlled trials comparing endovascular therapy to iVT for AiS failed to show superior outcomes with endovascular treatment, butkey limitations of each trial may limit the significance of these results to current practice. while endovascular devices and operator experience continue to evolve, we are optimistic that this will be accompanied by improvements in patient outcomes. This review highlights the major endovascular devices used in current practice and the trials which have investigated their efficacy.

Epstein Barr virus （EBV） positive mucocutaneous ulcers（EBVmCU） form part of a spectrum of EBV-associatedlymphoproliferative disease. They have been reportedin the setting of immunosenescence and iatrogenicimmunosuppression, affecting the oropharyngeal mucosa,skin and gastrointestinal tract （GiT）. Case reports andseries to date suggest a benign natural history respondingto conservative management, particularly in the GiT. wereport an unusual case of EBVmCU in the colon, arisingin the setting of immunosuppression in the treatment ofCrohn＇s disease, with progression to Hodgkin lymphoma18 mo after cessation of infliximab. The patient presentedwith multiple areas of segmental colonic ulceration,histologically showing a polymorphous infiltrate withEBV positive Reed-Sternberg-like cells. A diagnosisof EBVmCU was made. The ulcers failed to regressupon cessation of infliximab and methotrexate for 18mo. Following commencement of prednisolone for herCrohn＇s disease, the patient developed widespreadHodgkin lymphoma which ultimately presented as alife-threatening lower GiT bleed requiring emergencycolectomy. This is the first report of progression ofEBVmCU to Hodgkin lymphoma, in the setting of ongoingiatrogenic immunosuppression and inflammatory boweldisease.

This paper is based on an invited speech presented at the 14 th Symposium on Functional Linguistics and Discourse Analysis on "Language Teaching and Language Learning: in Celebration of Professor m.A.K. Halliday’s 70 th Year of Teaching and Researching Chinese", co-organized by the School of Foreign Languages and the School of Chinese as a Second Language, Sun Yat-sen University, on 13 may, 2015. The paper gives a review of the three histories of Professor Halliday as learner, teacher and grammarian. For Halliday, language is meaning potential. Learning language is learning how to mean, and learning how to mean means learning the grammar. An interest in how language works threads through these three histories of Halliday as learner, teacher and grammarian. in all three histories, the past is always present: the grammarian never stopped being a teacher, and the teacher never stopped being a learner. m.A.K. Halliday has been and will always be learner, teacher and grammarian.

土地利用/覆盖分类是研究海岸带动态变化过程、理解滨海社会-生态系统作用机制和支持可持续发展的重要基础.中国海岸带土地覆盖复杂多样,以往全国海岸带土地覆盖遥感制图产品严重依赖人工目视解译,缺乏涵盖中国重要海岸带地物类型的标准化自动制图产品.结合多套中国海岸带地区公开发表的遥感数据产品,本研究建立了包含12个类型的中国海岸带土地覆盖样本库,基于谷歌地球引擎平台,采用2019~2021年哨兵主被动遥感数据构建光谱特征和纹理特征,联合基于像素和面向对象的分类方法得到10米分辨率的中国海岸带土地覆盖产品.分析结果表明,2020年中国海岸带土地覆盖遥感自动制图结果的总体精度达到79.3%,制图产品涵盖重要的中国滨海湿地类型且优于同期全球土地覆盖分类数据.本数据产品将为海岸带环境评估和监测提供重要依据,为中国海岸带综合保护和规划提供科学支持.

in 1958, a demonstrational cutting trial totaling 22.2 ha was established in a northern hardwood forest in Alberta, mi. Eight different treatments were installed, including four diameter-limit treatments (56 cm, 41 cm, 30 cm, and 13 cm), three single-tree selection treatments with residual basal areas of 21 m2·ha–1, 16 m2·ha–1, and 11 m2·ha–1, and an uncut control. within each treatment, a 0.4-ha permanent plot was established and subdivided into 0.04-ha square subplots. Harvests have been implemented every ten years with the most recent harvest occurring during the winter of 2008 - 2009. we quantified ground layer vegetation response before and after the most recent harvest. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NmS) ordination showed a very distinct separation between the most intensive management treatment (13-cm diameter-limit treatment) and the uncut control. Compositionally, the diameter-limit treatments moved with greater directionality and magnitude towards the 13-cm diameter-limit treatment following harvest, while compositional change in the residual basal area treatments was less pronounced and lacked strong directionality. Herbaceous species percent cover generally decreased with increasing residual overstory basal area across treatments. weedy and early successional species were most abundant under lower residual basal area and diameter-limit treatments. Results based on 50 years of continuous management suggest that diameter-limit harvests likely have a greater impact on the herbaceous community than single-tree selection or no management.
