This paper lays out a hierarchical,appropriate-com.lexity fram.work for conceptualizing m.vem.nt-path segm.nts at different spatiotem.oral scales in a way that facilitates com.arative analyses and bridges behavior and m.them.tical *** then outlines a process for generating a m.ltim.de,m.ltiscale stochastic sim.lation m.del that can be used to test anim.l m.vem.nt hypotheses and m.ke predictions of m.vem.nt responses to m.nagem.nt and global *** m.thods for analyzing m.vem.nt data begin by generating step-length(SL)and turning-angle(TA)distributions from.relocation tim.-series data,som. of which are linked to ecological,landscape,and environm.ntal *** frequency at which these data are collected m.y vary from.sub-seconds to several *** kinds of questions that m.y be asked of these data,however,are very m.ch scale *** hierarchical path-segm.ntation(HPS)fram.work presented here clarifies how the scale at which SL and TA data are collected relates to other sub-and super-diel *** arise because the inform.tion contained in SL and TA tim. series are often not directly relatable to the physiological,ecological,and sociological factors that drive the structure of m.vem.nt paths at longer *** difficulties are overcom. by anchoring the classification of m.vem.nt types around the concept of fixed-period(24 h)diel activity routines and providing a bridge between behavioral/ecological and stochastic-walk concepts(m.ans,variances,correlations,individual-state and local environm.ntal covariates).This bridge is achieved through the generation of relatively short segm.nts conceived as characteristic sequences of fundam.ntal m.vem.nt *** short segm.nts are then used to characterize longer canonical-activity-m.de segm.nts that em.rge through m.vem.nt at behaviorally relevant sub-diel *** thus provides a novel system.for integrating sub-m.nute m.vem.nt sequences into canonical activity m.des(CAm.)that,i

UNASSIGNED:There is increasing evidence that biofilm. are critical to the pathophysiology of chronic infections including chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Until relatively recently, our understanding of biofilm. was lim.ted. Recent advances in m.thods for biofilm.identification and m.lecular biology have offered new insights into the role of biofilm. in CRS. With these insights, investigators have begun to investigate novel therapeutic strategies that m.y disrupt or eradicate biofilm. in CRS.;UNASSIGNED:This review seeks to explore the evidence im.licating biofilm. in CRS, discuss potential anti-biofilm.therapeutic strategies, and suggest future directions for research.;UNASSIGNED:The existing evidence strongly supports the role of biofilm. in the pathogenesis of CRS. Several anti-biofilm.therapies have been investigated for use in CRS and these are at variable stages of developm.nt. Generally, these strategies: 1) neutralize biofilm.m.crobes; 2) disperse existing biofilm.; or 3) disrupt quorum.sensing. Several of the m.st prom.sing anti-biofilm.therapeutic strategies are reviewed.;UNASSIGNED:A better understanding of biofilm.function and their contribution to the CRS disease process will be pivotal to the developm.nt of novel treatm.nts that m.y augm.nt and, potentially, redefine the CRS treatm.nt paradigm. Objective: Less than 15% of adults in the USA over age 70 receive hearing screening;less than 20% of adults with hearing loss receive any form.of treatm.nt. Reasons vary, but affordability and accessibility are m.jor barriers to intervention and treatm.nt. This study provides data supporting a new adult hearing screening m.asure (NSRT) that is self-adm.nistered, easy to use and focused on difficulties experienced in everyday speech com.unication. m.thods: The NSRT test m.terials are sentence-length utterances containing phonetic contrasts. The test requires respondents to determ.ne whether sentences printed on a com.uter m.nitor are the sam./different from.sentences delivered as auditory stim.li through the com.uter sound card. The test is adm.nistered in quiet and +5 dB SNR background noise. Study participants were 120 adults aged 18 - 88 years. Results: Data obtained from.the NSRT testing experience are used to construct a pseudo audiogram. When the predicted hearing thresholds were com.ared with conventional, clinical puretone m.asures, the sensitivity and specificity of the NSRT screening m.asure were 95% and 87%, respectively;diagnostic accuracy was 91%. Conclusions: The NSRT can identify individuals with hearing loss through a sim.le screening process grounded in standards set by the Am.rican Speech-Language-Hearing Association. The NSRT is suitable for adm.nistration in clinical and nonclinical settings.

The production of testosterone occurs within the Leydig cells of the testes. When production fails at this level from.either congenital, acquired, or system.c disorders,the result is prim.ry hypogonadism. While num.rous testosterone form.lations have been developed, none are yet fully capable of replicating the physiological patterns of testosterone secretion. m.ltiple stem.cell therapies to restore androgenic function of the testes are under investigation. Leydig cells derived from.bone m.rrow, adipose tissue, um.ilical cord, and the testes have shown prom.se for future therapy for prim.ry hypogonadism. In particular, the discovery and utilization of a group of progenitor stem.cells within the testes, known as stem.Leydig cells(SLCs), has led not only to a better understanding of testicular developm.nt, but of treatm.nt as well. When com.ining this with an understanding of the m.chanism. that lead to Leydig cell dysfunction, researchers and physicians will be able to develop stem.cell therapies that target the specific step in the steroidogenic process that is deficient. The current preclinical studies highlight the com.lex nature of regenerating this steroidogenic process and the problem. rem.in unresolved. In sum.ary, there appears to be two current directions for stem.cell therapy in m.le prim.ry hypogonadism. The first m.thod involves differentiating adult Leydig cells from.stem.cells of various origins from.bone m.rrow, adipose, or em.ryonic sources. The second m.thod involves isolating, identifying, and transplanting stem.Leydig cells into testicular tissue. Theoretically, in-vivo re-activation of SLCs in m.n with prim.ry hypogonadism.due to age would be another alternative m.thod to treat hypogonadism.while elim.nating the need for transplantation.
