Cellular immune depression is linked to high mortality in sepsis, but has yet to be systematically analysed in liver cirrhosis. The aim of the present study was to directly compare functional immune parameters in patients with acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF), severe sepsis, and non-decompensated cirrhosis. Patients with ACLF (n=27) were investigated at admission to a medical ICU. Patients with stable liver cirrhosis (n=24) and severe sepsis (n=31) served as control groups. In all subjects, serum levels of IL-6 and IL-10, ex vivo production of TNF-αin a whole blood assay, and monocyte surface hLA-DR expression were determined. In patients with ACLF or sepsis, ex vivo TNF-αproduction and hLA-DR expression were severely decreased compared to subjects with stable cirrhosis (both Pevels were highest in septic patients, followed by subjects with ACLF and cirrhotic patients (both Pe dysfunction in ACLF was independent of aetiology of liver cirrhosis and associated with high mortality. Patients with ACLF and severe sepsis show a similar degree of cellular immune depression. The reduced cellular immune function in subjects with ACLF might contribute to the increased infectious morbidity of these patients and provide a rational basis for prevention strategies.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAhs)are ubiquitous environmental contaminants of growing concern due to their potential ecological and human health *** study presents a comprehensive assessment of PAhs contamination in the surface sediments of Burullus Lake,a vital and second largest delta lake in *** aim was to evaluate the eco-toxicity and potential health risks associated with the presence of these *** seven sediment samples were collected from various drains in the southern part of Burullus *** extraction method was employed to extract PAhs(16PAhs)from the sediment ***,target compounds were located using *** results showed that samples contained PAhs levels ranging from 0.038×10^(-6)to 0.459×10^(-6),which is considered heavily polluted by the european standard for PAhs ***,there was no apparent source of PAhs in the elKhashah drain or the Brinbal Canal,as hPLC found none of the *** most prevalent compound in sediment samples along the study area was *** diagnostic indices in the present study indicated that the hydrocarbons in the region originated from pyrolytic and man-made sources along the drains of Burullus *** principal component analysis(PCA)and diagnostic ratios revealed that coal combustion and pyrolytic sources were responsible for the PAhs contamination in the surface *** non-carcinogenic risk(hI),which is the product of the hQs for the adult and child populations,respectively,was *** values under 1,therefore,demonstrated that they had no carcinogenic effects on human *** and MeQs in the sediments of Burullus Lake do not have a cancer-causing impact on *** the safety of nearby wildlife,aquatic life,and people,all activities that raise petroleum hydrocarbon levels in Burullus Lake must be adequately regulated and *** to the ecological risk assessment,there is little chance that PAhs will be found

The oxidation behavior of Ni-based superalloy Gh4742 exposed to water vapor was investigated at 900-1100℃for 50 h in Ar+20%h_(2)O,with Ar+20%O_(2)included for *** presence of h_(2)O is adverse to formation of continuous Cr_(2)O_(3)oxide layer but contributes to generation of big *** on this,Ni^(2+)and Co^(2+)are more easily to diffuse towards the outermost oxide layer(OOL),forming non-protective Ni-and Co-rich oxides with high *** leads to a higher weight gain in Ar+20%h_(2)O than that in Ar+20%O_(2).At elevated temperatures,the spallation of oxide scale occurs while the consumption of Cr is reduced in Ar+20%h_(2)O,and the contents of Ni-and Co-rich oxides at this moment are reduced in the *** oxidation mechanism was also discussed.

This editorial elaborates on the current and future applications of linear endoscopic ultrasound(eUS),a substantial diagnostic and therapeutic modality for various anatomical *** scope of endosonographic assessment is broad and,among other factors,allows for the evaluation of the mediastinal anatomy and related pathologies,such as mediastinal lymphadenopathy and the staging of central malignant lung ***,eUS assessment has proven more accurate in detecting small lesions missed by standard imaging examinations,such as computed tomography or magnetic resonance *** focus on its current uses in the mediastinum,including lung and esophageal cancer staging,as well as evaluating mediastinal lymphadenopathy and submucosal *** editorial also explores future perspectives of eUS in mediastinal examination,including ultrasound-guided therapies,artificial intelligence integration,advancements in mediastinal modalities,and improved diagnostic approaches for various mediastinal lesions.
