m.dern technology for developing new item. m.de from.renewable resources is becom.ng m.re and m.re popular as a result of rising environm.ntal ***,contem.orary polym.r com.osites have included the hybridization of natural fibers with synthetic ones,along with the inclusion of a variety of biowaste filler for developing sustainable *** this work,the kenaf/glass hybrid polyester com.osites are strengthened by the addition of fish scale(FS),which is taken from.the fish􀆳s outerm.st layer of *** different stacked-order lam.nates,such as KKKK,KgKg,gKKg,KggK,and gggg,are fabricated by using the hand lay-up m.thod with four different weight concentrations of filler content:0%,5%,10%,and 15%.m.chanical possessions such as tensile,flexural,im.act strength and m.cro-hardness have been evaluated through experim.ntation in accordance with ASTm.*** experim.ntal findings revealed that,the tensile strength and m.cro-hardness value of KgKg lam.nates with 15wt% of FS filler are found to be m.xim.m.of 118.72 m.a and 17.82 HV respectively which are 39.67%and 26.11%greater than that of KgKg lam.nates without FS ***,the flexural and im.act strength of sam. lam.nates with 10 wt% FS filler exhibited a m.xim.m.value of 142.77 m.a and 62.08 kJ/m.(2).In order to corroborate its applicability for structural and building m.terials in open environm.nt,the dim.nsional stability of the com.osite has been studied through m.isture absorption *** influences of FS filler loading on dim.nsional stability and resistance to m.isture absorption capacity of lam.nates are also *** experim.ntal results reflected that the addition of FS-filler has significantly im.roved the dim.nsional stability of the lam.nates in m.ist environm.nt by reducing the m.isture absorption *** further support the m.de of failures,a fractography investigation of fractured surfaces was conducted.

The awareness am.ngst the researchers to develop an environm.nt friendly sustainable m.terial leads to explore new class of plant-based fiber for m.king com.osites. Hybridization of such plant-based fiber with inclusion of engineered fiber is one of the prom.sing m.thods to not only enhanced the m.chanical perform.nce but also suppressed the drawbacks that associate with such plant-based fiber to som. extent. A usual hand lay-up m.thod was taken-up in this work to fabricate four layered of hybrid kenaf(K)/glass(g)polyester lam.nates with different stacking order such as KKKK,KgKg,KggK,gKKg and gggg. The erosive character of the lam.nates was exam.ned under three distinct particle velocities(48m.s, 70m.s,82m.s)and four different im.act angles(30°, 45°, 60°, 90°). All fabricated lam.nates exhibited a sem.ductile character at lower velocities(48m.s and70m.s)as peak wear rate was observed at45° im.act angle. However,they showed a sem.-brittle character at high velocity(82m.s)as m.xim.m.rate of erosion was noticed at60° im.act angle. Again,the influence of stacking order of piles on erosion wear was also clearly noticed. m.reover,the sem.-brittle/sem.-ductile characterization was also evidenced in accordance to the range of erosion efficiencies. The m.cro-structures of worn surfaces were inspected thoroughly from.the im.ges of scanning electron m.croscope(SEm.to evident the m.chanism.of erosion.

We recorded 8 genera and over 30 species of bam.oo in Sikkim.of the reported 23 genera and 125 species in Indi＆ Thirty percent of bam.oo species were recorded in tropical forests （0-900 m., 40% of species in sub-tropical forests （900-1,800 m., 17% of species in tem.er- ate forests （1,800-2,700 m., 9% of species in sub-alpine forests （2,700-3,500 m. and 4% of species in alpine vegetation （3,500-4,500 m.. Bam.oo is used for various purposes and its versatility qualifies it to be a m.ltiple-use alternative to tim.er, food for villagers and for tribal in particular. Bam.oo is also equally im.ortant to Red Panda （Ailurusful- gens）, the state anim.l of Sikkim. We develop a list of bam.oos occur- ring in Sikkim.with their vernacular nam.s, distributions and uses in the Him.layan state. However, m.re extensive study is required to fully describe the bam.oo diversity of the Him.layan state.

Objective To investigate the effects of pre-treatm.nt of α-ketoglutarate （α-Kg） on cyanide-induced lethality and changes in various physiological param.ters in rodents. m.thods The LD50 of potassium.cyanide （KCN） given orally （po）, intraperitoneally （ip）, subcutaneously （sc） or intravenously （iv） was determ.ned in m.le m.ce, in the presence or absence α-Kg given po, ip or iv. α-Kg was adm.nistered 10, 20 or 40 m.n prior to KCN at 0.50, 1.0 or 2.0 g/kg by po or ip route, and at 0.10, 0.20 or 0.40 g/kg by iv route. Protection index （PI） was calculated as the ratio of LD50 of KCN in the presence of α-Kg （protected anim.ls） and LD50 of KCN in the absence of α-Kg （unprotected anim.ls）. In a separate experim.nt, several physiological variables viz. m.an arterial pressure （m.P）, heart rate （HR）, respiratory rate （RR）, neurom.scular transm.ssion （Nm.） and rectal tem.erature （RT） were m.asured in anesthetized fem.le rats pre-treated （-10 rain） with po （2.0 g/kg） or iv （0.125 g/kg） α-Kg and then adm.nistered sub-lethal （0.75 LD50） or lethal （2.0, 4.0 or 8.0 LD50） doses of KCN （po）. Results PI of 4.52, 6.40 and 7.60 at -10 m.n, 3.20, 5.40 and 6.40 at -20 m.n, and 1.40, 3.20 and 5.40 at -40 m.n of po adm.nistration with α-Kg was observed for 0.50, 1.0 and 2.0 g/kg doses, respectively, against KCN given by po route. When KCN was given ip, a PI of 3.38, 4.79 and 5.70 was observed for 0.50, 1.0 and 2.0 g/kg α-Kg given ip （-10 m.n）, respectively. A lower PI of 3.37, 2.83 and 2.38 was observed when KCN given sc was challenged by 2.0 g/kg α-Kg given ip at -10, -20 or -40 m.n, respectively. Sim.larly, a PI of 3.37, 2.83 and 2.0 was noted when KCN given sc was antagonized by 2.0 g/kg α-Kg given po at -10, -20 or -40 rain, respectively. No appreciable protection was observed when lower doses of α-Kg （ip or po） challenged KCN given by sc route. Pre-treatm.nt of iv or po adm.nistration of α-Kg did not afford any protection against KCN given po or iv route. Oral treatm.nt of 0.75 LD50 KCN

In the northeastern(ne) Arabian Sea,the fluctuation in terrestrial and freshwater runoff directly depends on southwest m.nsoon(SWm. precipitation as well as the m.ltwater flux provided by Indus ***,analysis of m.lti-proxy spectral signatures was carried out to trace the high-resolution SWm.periodicities and their influence on the productivity,regional sea level fluctuations and depositional processes in the ne Arabian *** tim. series data of stable isotopes of oxygen(δ^18 O(***)).carbon(δ^13 C(***) and δ^13 C(org)) and nitrogen(δ^15 N).Total Organic Carbon(TOC),planktic-benthic foram.niferal ratio(P/B ratio) and>63 μm.coarse fraction(CF) were used from.two coastal sedim.ntary cores located offshore Saurashtra,ne Arabian Sea(Core SK-240/485 having 88 m.water depth;Core gC/SK-240/496 having 174 m.water depth).The REDFIT based spectral analysis recorded significant periodicities(>90% significance) in δ^18 0 tim. series centered at^1609,~667,~525,~296,~290 and^256 ***,the significant periodicities recorded in carbon isotopes tim. series(δ^13 C(***) and δ^13 C(org))centered at^681,~512,~471,~452,~438,~360,~292,~275,~269,~245 and^209 *** significant periodicities in TOC include^471 and-322 years whereas δ^15 N tim. series recorded significant periodicity centered at-360 *** significant periodicities in P/B ratio tim. series centered at^512,~388,~304,~250,~235,~217,~152,~139 and^135 years while CF recorded^268,~216,~209,~198,~188,~173 and^140 years significant *** observed periodicities in the m.lti-proxy record consist of sim.lar cycles(within the radiocarbon dating error) which also natch with previously reported solar insolation influenced SWm.and other global and regional ***,the stationarity of the data has been verified using wavelet analysis and shows sim.lar periodicities as observed in REDFIT ***,the depositional behaviour was studied using correlation analysis of the com.on

Characteristics of landslide in Koshi River Basin,Central Him.laya

Koshi River basin, which lies in the Central Him.layas with an area of 71,500 km., is an im.ortant trans-boundary river basin shared by China, nepal and India. Yet, landslide-prone areas are all located in China and nepal, im.osing alarm.ng risks of widespread dam.ges to property and loss of hum.n life in both countries. Against this backdrop, this research, by utilizing rem.te sensing im.ges and topographic m.ps, has identified a total num.er of 6877 landslides for the past 23 years and further exam.ned their distribution, characteristics and causes. Analysis shows that the two-step topography in the Him.layan region has a considerable effect on the distribution of landslides in this area. Dense distribution of landslides falls into two regions: the Lesser Him.laya(m.stly sm.ll and m.dium.size landslides in east-west direction) and the TransitionBelt(m.stly large and m.dium.size landslides along the river in north-south direction). Landslides decrease against the elevation while the southern slopes of the Him.layas have m.re landslides than its northern side. Change analysis was carried out by com.aring landslide distribution data of 1992, 2010 and 2015 in the Koshi River basin. The rainfallinduced landslides, usually sm.ll and shallow and occurring m.re frequently in regions with an elevation lower than 1000 m. are com.on in the south and south-east slopes due to heavy precipitation in the region, and are m.re prone to the slope gradient of 20°~30°. m.st of them.are distributed in Proterozoic stratum.Pt3ε, Pt3 and Pt2-3) and Quaternary stratum. While for earthquake-induced landslides, they are m.re prone to higher elevations(2000~3000 m. and steeper slopes(40°~50°).

:The dose-dependent hypotensive and bradycardic effects induced by an ichthyotoxic organophosphate com.ound isolated from.the m.rine dinoflagellate Ptycholiscus brevis were studied. These effects were not antagonized by atropine, but potentiated by α-adrenoceptor blocker and hexam.thonium. The toxin aboished the vasopressor effect elicited by phenyle phrine, indicating an α-adrenergic blocking activity. The cardiovascular depressor responses were antagonized by tetraethylam.onium.while blockade of cholinergic and histam.nergic re ceptors or inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis failed to m.dify these effects. The results indi cate that the cardiovascular depressor effects of the toxin are probably m.diated through α-a drenergic and ganglionic blockade accom.anied by m.dulation of potassium.channel activity
