Prediction of the undrained shear strength of remolded soil with non-linear regression,fuzzy logic,and artificial neural network

This study aims to predict the undrained shear strength of remolded soil samples using non-linear regression analyses,fuzzy logic,and artificial neural network modeling.A total of 1306 undrained shear strength results from 230 different remolded soil test settings reported in 21 publications were collected,utilizing six different measurement *** water content,plastic limit,and liquid limit were used as input parameters for fuzzy logic and artificial neural network modeling,liquidity index or water content ratio was considered as an input parameter for non-linear regression *** non-linear regression analyses,12 different regression equations were derived for the prediction of undrained shear strength of remolded ***-Forward backpropagation and the TANSIG transfer function were used for artificial neural network modeling,while the Mamdani inference system was preferred with trapezoidal.a.d triangular membership functions for fuzzy logic *** experimental results of 914 tests were used for training of the artificial neural network models,196 for validation and 196 for *** was observed that the accuracy of the artificial neural network and fuzzy logic modeling was higher than that of the non-linear regression ***,a simple and rel.a.le regression equation was proposed for assessments of undrained shear strength values with higher coefficients of determination.

The occurrence of pharmaceuticals in water bodies and drinking water poses risks for the envi-ronment and human health,thus it is necessary to study methodologies that allow the efficient removal of these *** this work,corn cob-derived biochar was obtained by ZnCl_(2)-activation,and subsequent carbonization at 700℃.The effect of contact time,temperature,pH,and initial concentration on the adsorption capacity of acetaminophen(ACE)and amoxicillin(AMX)was determined through batch *** addition,the kinetics,isotherms,and ther-modynamics parameters were *** activated biochar exhibited a maximum adsorp-tion capacity of 332.08 mg/g for ACE and 175.86 mg/g for *** adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm of ACE corresponded to the pseudo-second order and langmuir model,***,pseudo-first-order kinetics and the Freundlich isotherm model were well-fitted to AMX *** ACE and AMX co-adsorption had a synergistic effect on AMX but an antagonistic effect on ACE removal.a.hieving a maximum adsorption capacity of 193.51 and 184.58 mg/g,*** the other hand,fixed-bed column experiments showed that the adsorption capacity depends on the influent concentration,and the breakthrough curve fits the Thomas and Yoon-Nelson *** mechanism adsorption studies showed that surface inter-actions(hydrogen bonding formation and n-𝜋interactions)are the main driving forces for the adsorption process,and pore filling is the rate-limiting *** this way,the prepared biochar exhibits a high potential for the adsorption of pharmaceutical compounds from water.

Eval.a.ion of the Oxidation Reactivity and Behavior of Exhaust Soot Particles from Diesel Engines with Different Emission levels

The aim of this study was to investigate the oxidation reactivity and behavior of exhaust particulate matter(PM)from diesel *** samples from two diesel engines(1K,CY4102)with different emission levels were collected by a thermophoretic system and a quartz *** oxidation reactivity,oxidation behaviors,and physicochemical properties of the PM samples were analyzed using thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry(FTIR),and Raman *** results showed that there was a great difference in the oxidation reactivity of soot particles emitted by the two different diesel engines.A qualitative analysis of the factors influencing oxidation reactivity showed that the nanostructure,degree of graphitization,and relative concentration of aliphatic C—H functional groups were the most important factors,whereas no significant correlation was found between the primary particle size and activation energy of the diesel *** on the oxidation behavior analysis,the diesel soot particles exhibited both internal.a.d surface oxidation modes during the oxidation *** oxidation was dominant during the initial stage,and as oxidation progressed,the mode gradually changed to internal *** oxidation mode of soot particles from the 1K engine was significantly higher than that of CY4102.

Metabolic col.a.oration between cells in the tumor microenvironment has a negligible effect on tumor growth

The electrocatalytic oxidation of biomass-derived furfural(FF)feedstocks into 2-furoic acid(FA)holds immense industrial potential in optics,cosmetics,polymers,and ***,we fabricated Co O/Ni O/nickel foam(NF)and Cu_(2)O/Ni O/NF electrodes via in situ pulsed laser irradiation in liquids(PlIl)for the bifunctional electrocatalysis of oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and furfural oxidation reaction(FOR),*** oxidation of NF surface to NiO and deposition of CoO and/or Cu_(2)O on NF during PlIl offer distinct advantages for enhancing both the OER and ***/NiO/NF electrocatalyst provides a consistently low overpotential of~359 m V(OER)at 10 m A/cm^(2),achieving the maximum FA yield(~16.37 m M)with 61.5%selectivity,79.5%carbon balance,and a remarkable Faradaic efficiency of~90.1%during 2 h of FOR at 1.43 V(*** hydrogen electrode).Mechanistic pathway via in situ electrochemical-Raman spectroscopy on CoO/NiO/NF reveals the involvement of phase transition intermediates(NiOOH and CoOOH)as surface-active centers during electrochemical *** carbonyl carbon in FF is attacked by hydroxyl groups to form unstable hydrates that subsequently undergo further oxidation to yield FA *** method holds promise for large-scale applications,enabling simul.a.eous production of renewable building materials and fuel.

Major vol.a.ic eruptions(MVEs)have attracted increasing attention from the scientific *** studies have explored the climatic impact of MVEs over the past two ***,proxy-based reconstructions and climate model simulations indicate divergent responses of global.a.d China’s regional climates to ***,we used multiple data from observations,reconstructions,simulations,and assimilations to summarize the historical facts of MVEs,the characteristics and mechanisms of their climatic impact,and directions for future *** reviewed vol.a.ic datasets and determined intensive MVE periods;these periods corresponded to the years 530–700,1200‒1460,and 1600‒1840 *** tropical MVEs,a substantial cooling effect is observed throughout the globe and China on the interannual-interdecadal time scales but an inconsistent cooling magnitude is detected between reconstructions and *** the first summer after tropical MVEs,a decrease in global.a.d monsoonal precipitation is *** reconstructions and simulations,an increased precipitation is seen for the Yangtze River Basin,while large uncertainties in precipitation changes are present for other regions of *** drought can be induced by frequent eruptions and vol.a.ism superimposed on low solar irradiation and internal *** affect climate directly through the radiative effect and indirectly by modulating internal variability,such as the El Niño‒Southern Oscil.a.ion(ENSO)and Atlantic Multidecadal Oscil.a.ion(AMO).However,changes in the phase,amplitude,and periodicity of ENSO and AMO after MVEs and the associated mechanisms remain controversial,which could account for model-reconstruction ***,other internal variability,uncertainties in reconstruction methods and aerosol‒climate models,and climate background may also induce model-reconstruction *** gaps and directions for future research are also discussed.

Effect of low concentration electrolytes on the formation and corrosion resistance of PEO coatings on AM50 magnesium alloy

In this paper,the formation process,morphology,and electrochemical performance of PEO coatings on AM50 magnesium alloy prepared in low concentration phosphate,aluminate,and phosphate-aluminate electrolytes were systematically *** results show that the coatings prepared from the phosphate electrolytes have a higher thickness and better corrosion resistance properties compared to the other *** coatings prepared from low concentration phosphate-aluminate mixed electrolytes have slightly thinner thickness,a similar coating structure and an order of magnitude lower value of electrochemical impedance compared with phosphate electrolyte *** Coatings prepared from low concentration aluminate electrolytes have the lowest thickness and the worst corrosion resistance properties which gets close to corrosion behavior of the bare AM50 under the same test *** application,coatings prepared from single low concentration phosphate electrolytes and low concentration phosphate-aluminate electrolytes have greater potential than single low concentration aluminate ***,reducing the electrolyte concentrations of coating forming ions too much has negative influence on the coating growth rate.

Wildfire severity alters soil microbial exoenzyme production and fungal.a.undances in the southern Appalachian Mountains

Climate change has increased drought frequency and duration that are exacerbated by increased temperatures globally. This effect has, and will continue,to increase fire occurrence across many regions of North America. In the southern Appalachian Mountains, wildfires with high burn severity occurred in 2016due to increased drought and human activity. To investigate the effects of burn severity on soil physicochemical properties, microbial extracellular enzyme production, and microbial.a.undances in a temperate region, surface soils (0–15 cm) were collected from two sites (the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee and the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina, USA) spanning lightly, moderately, and severely burned areas, accompanied by adjacent unburned locations that act as controls. The soil samples were collected at three time points between 2017 and 2019 (i.e., 0.5, 1, and 2.5 years post-fire)among burn severity plots. Total hydrolytic enzyme production varied over time, with severe burn plots having significantly lower enzyme production at 2.5years post-fire. Individual enzymes varied among burn severities and across time post-fire. light burn plots showed greater carbon-specific (β-glucosidase and β-xylosidase) and phosphorus-specific (acid phosphatase) enzyme activities at 0.5 years post-fire, but this effect was transient. At 2.5 years post-fire, theβ-xylosidase and acid phosphatase activities were lower in severe or moderate burn plots relative to the controls. In contrast, the activity of nitrogen-specific enzyme leucyl.a.inopeptidase was the lowest in severe burn plots at 0.5 years post-fire, but was the lowest in light burn plots at 2.5 years post-fire. The fungi:bacteria ratio declined with burn severity, indicating that fungi are sensitive or less resilient to high burn severity during recovery. These results suggest that wildfires alter trajectories for soil microbial structure and function within a 2.5-year timeframe, which potentially
