Neurotransmitter-initiated signaling pathway were reported to play an important role in regulating the malignant phenotype of tumor cells.Cancer cells could exhibit a"neural addiction"property and build up local nerve networks to achieve an enhanced neurotransmitter-initiated signaling through nerve growth factor-mediated axonogenesis.Targeting the dysregulated nervous systems might represent a novel strategy for cancer treatment.However,whether intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)could build its own nerve networks and the role of neurotransmitters in the progression ICC remains largely unknown.Immunofluorescence staining and Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay suggested that IcC cells and the infiltrated nerves could generate a tumor microenvironment rich in acetylcholine that promotes IcC metastasis by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT).Acetylcholine promoted iCC metastasis through interacting with its receptor,alpha 5 nicotine acetylcholine receptor subunits(CHRNA5).Furthermore,acetylcholine/CHRNA5 axis activated GSK3β/β-catenin signaling pathway partially through the influx of Ca^(2+)-mediated activation of Ca/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases(CAMKll).In addition,acetylcholine signaling activation also expanded nerve infiltration through increasing the expression of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor(BDNF),which formed a feedforward acetylcholine-BDNF axis to promote ICC progression.KN93,a small-molecule inhibitor of CAMKIll,significantly inhibited the migration and enhanced the sensitivity to gemcitabine of ICC cells.Above all,Acetylcholine/CHRNA5 axis increased the expression ofβ-catenin to promote the metastasis and resistance to gemcitabine of ICC via CAMKIl/GSK3βsignaling,and the CAMKIl inhibitor KN93 may be an effective therapeutic strategy for combating ICC metastasis.

This paper presents a numerical study to improve the understanding of the complex subject of penetration and perforation of concrete targets impacted by low-velocity projectiles.The main focus is on the damage mechanisms and the major factors that account for the target resistance of the concrete.An improved continuous surface cap model recently proposed was employed.The model was first equipped with element erosion criteria and was adequately validated by comparisons with ballistic experiments.Comprehensive numerical simulations were carried out where the individual influence of tensile,shear,and volumetric behaviors(pore collapse)of a concrete target on its ballistic performance was investigated.Results demonstrated that cratering on the front face and scabbing on the rear face of the concrete target were mainly dominated by its tensile behavior.The major target resistance came from the second tunneling stage which was primarily governed by the shear and volumetric behaviors of the concrete.Particularly,this study captured the pore collapse-induced damage phenomenon during the high-pressure tunneling stage,which has been extensively reported in experiments but has usually been neglected in previous numerical investigations.

The urgent demand of extreme(ultra-high/low)thermal conductivity materials is triggered by the high-power device,where exploring the theories and mechanisms of regulating thermal transport properties plays a key role.Herein,we elaborately investigate the effect of vertical(out-of-plane)piezoelectric characteristics on thermal transport,which is historically undiscovered.The different stacking-order(AA and AB)bilayer boron nitride(Bi-BN)in two-dimensional(2D)materials are selected as study cases.By performing state-of-the-art first-principles calculations,it is found that the polarization charge along the out-of-plane orientation ascends significantly with the increasing piezoelectric response in AB stacked Bi-BN(Bi-BN-AB)followed by the enhanced interlayer B–N atomic interactions.Consequently,the amplitude of phonon anharmonicity in Bi-BN-AB increases larger than that in the AA stacked Bi-BN(Bi-BN-AA),resulting in the dramatic weakening of the thermal conductivity by 20.34%under 18%strain.Our research reveals the significant role of the vertical(out-of-plane)piezoelectric characteristic in regulating thermal transport and provides new insight into accurately exploring the thermal transport performance of 2D van der Waals materials.

Cryopreservation of red blood cells(RBCs)provides great potential benefits for providing transfusion timely in emergencies.High concentrations of glycerol(20%or 40%)are used for RBC cryopreservation in current clinical practice,which results in cytotoxicity and osmotic injuries that must be carefully controlled.However,existing studies on the low-glycerol cryopreservation of RBCs still suffer from the bottleneck of low hematocrit levels,which require relatively large storage space and an extra concentration process before transfusion,making it inconvenient(time-consuming,and also may cause injury and sample lose)for clinical applications.To this end,we develop a novel method for the glycerol-free cryopreservation of human RBCs with a high final hematocrit by using trehalose as the sole cryoprotectant to dehydrate RBCs and using core–shell alginate hydrogel microfibers to enhance heat transfer during cryopreservation.Different from previous studies,we achieve the cryopreservation of human RBCs at high hematocrit(>40%)with high recovery(up to 95%).Additionally,the washed RBCs post-cryopreserved are proved to maintain their morphology,mechanics,and functional properties.This may provide a nontoxic,high-efficiency,and glycerol-free approach for RBC cryopreservation,along with potential clinical transfusion benefits.

Curve interpolation with B-spline is widely used in various areas. This problem is classic and recently raised in application scenario with new requirements such as path planning following the tangential vector field under certified error in CNC machining. This paper proposes an algorithm framework to solve Hausdorff distance certified cubic B-spline interpolation problem with or without tangential direction constraints. The algorithm has two stages: The first stage is to find the initial cubic B-spine fitting curve which satisfies the Hausdorff distance constraint;the second stage is to set up and solve the optimization models with certain constraints. Especially, the sufficient conditions of the global Hausdorff distance control for any error bound are discussed, which can be expressed as a series of linear and quadratic constraints. A simple numerical algorithm to compute the Hausdorff distance between a polyline and its B-spline interpolation curve is proposed to reduce our computation.Experimental results are presented to show the advantages of the proposed algorithms.

Hepatectomy is still the major curative treatment for patients with liver malignancies.However,it is still a big challenge to remove the tumors in the central posterior area,especially if their location involves the retrohepatic inferior vena cava and hepatic veins.Ex vivo liver resection and auto-transplantation(ELRA),a hybrid technique of the traditional liver resection and transplantation,has brought new hope to these patients and therefore becomes a valid alternative to liver transplantation.Due to its technical difficulty,ELRA is still concentrated in a few hepatobiliary centers that have experienced surgeons in both liver resection and liver transplantation.The efficacy and safety of this technique has already been demonstrated in the treatment of benign liver diseases,especially in the advanced alveolar echinococcosis.Recently,the application of ELRA for liver malignances has gained more attention.However,standardization of clinical practice norms and international consensus are still lacking.The prognostic impact in these oncologic patients also needs further evaluation.In this review,we summarized the principles and recent progresses on ELRA.

This paper investigated average cluster sizes （ACS） and cluster size distributions （CSD） at different shear rates by Brownian dynamics in non-, bi-, and uni-polar systems with partly charged superfine particles, The investigation indicates that clusters in non- polar systems are the weakest and easiest to be damaged by increasing shear stresses; charged particles play important and different roles： in bi-polar system, it intends to strengthen clusters to some extent provided that the sign-like ions homogeneously arranged; in uni-polar system charged particles cracked the clusters into smaller ones, but the small clusters are strong to stand with larger shear stress. The relationship between ACS and shear rates follows power law with exponents in a range 0.18-0.28, these values are in a good agreement with experiment range but at the lower limit compared with other systems of non-metallic cluster particles.

The low-wavenumber components in the gradient of full waveform inversion(FWI) play a vital role in the stability of the inversion. However, when FWI is implemented in some high frequencies and current models are not far away from the real velocity model, an excessive number of low-wavenumber components in the gradient will also reduce the convergence rate and inversion accuracy. To solve this problem, this paper firstly derives a formula of scattering angle weighted gradient in FWI, then proposes a hybrid gradient. The hybrid gradient combines the conventional gradient of FWI with the scattering angle weighted gradient in each inversion frequency band based on an empirical formula derived herein.Using weighted hybrid mode, we can retain some low-wavenumber components in the initial lowfrequency inversion to ensure the stability of the inversion, and use more high-wavenumber components in the high-frequency inversion to improve the convergence rate. The results of synthetic data experiment demonstrate that compared to the conventional FWI, the FWI based on the proposed hybrid gradient can effectively reduce the low-wavenumber components in the gradient under the premise of ensuring inversion stability. It also greatly enhances the convergence rate and inversion accuracy,especially in the deep part of the model. And the field marine seismic data experiment also illustrates that the FWI based on hybrid gradient(HGFWI) has good stability and adaptability.

Transnasal endoscopic repair of acquired posterior choanal stenosis and atresia

Background There are congenital and acquired choanal atresias and many approaches have been used for their repair. We assessed the clinical effect of power instrument, endoscopic repair of acquired choanal stenosis and atresia. Methods Nineteen patients, aged from 32 to 61 years, with acquired choanal stenosis and atresia （from trauma in 5 cases and from radiotherapy after nasopharyngeal carcinoma in 14; 6 bilateral and 13 unilateral cases）, underwent transnasal endoscopic repair of choanal stenosis and atresia. No patient had stenting. Antibiotic and local glucocorticoid were administered postoperatively.Results Eighteen patients remained free of symptoms for 12-40 months after the surgery, and the diameter of the neochoana was more than 1 cm after the procedure. One patient required revision surgery and recovered completely with no restenosis at 12 months after the second surgery. There were no postoperative complications. Histology of the resected tissue revealed respiratory epithelial-lined stromal tissue with chronic inflammation, edema and fibrosis, but no tumor cells.Conclusions Transnasal endoscopic approach is a useful procedure for the repair of acquired choanal stenosis and atresia： it is highly successful, safe and effective with swift recovery and short time of hospitalization. It is very important in postoperative care to remove any granulation or polyps at the site of the neochoana at that time.
