Using rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE)-PCR,two full-length cDNAs encoding putative seven-transmembrane receptors (designated Gh7TMpRI and Gh7TMpR2) were cloned from cotton *** blot and an ApaL1 restriction site polymorphism analyses revealed that Gh7TMpRI was derived from the ancestral A diploid genome,while Gh7TMpR2 was from the D subgenome. Northern blot hybridization indicated that both Gh7TMpR1 and GhTTMpR2 were expressed preferentially in the elongation phase of fiber *** of the Gh7TMpRl proteins were located within the membrane structure and displayed a punctuate pattern of *** of Gh7TMpR1 in fission yeast disrupted the polar growth and caused the formation of rounded cells. These results suggest that GhT7MpRl may play a critical role in cotton fiber development,perhaps as a signaling receptor that is involved in controlling fiber elongation.

Light-harvesting and Photo-protection of Green Plants

＜正＞Light harvesting is the primary process in photosynthesis. In green plants, the function of harvesting solar energy is fulfilled by a series of light-harvesting complexes in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts. LHC-Ⅱ, the most abundant integral membrane protein in chloroplasts, exists as a trimer and binds half of the thylakoid chlorophylls. Besides the light-harvesting function, LHCⅡ has also been shown to function in the non-radioactive dissipation of excess excitation energy formed under highlight conditions. It has a crucial role in minimizing the damaging effects of excess light by operating this photo protective mechanism as light intensity becomes over-saturated. Moreover, LHC-Ⅱ also takes part in regulating the distribution of excitation energy between photosystem Ⅱ and Ⅰ.

Role of Transcription Factor OsSal1 in Rice Stress Tolerance

Plant productivity is greatly affected by environmental stresses such as drought, high-salt, and freezing. Transcription regulation is one of the most important aspect of plant stress responses. AP2 (APETALA2) transcription factors play important roles in plant stress tolerance. In our experiment, the salt tolerant upland rice variety IAPAR 9 was used to identify the genes differentially expressed in NaCl-treated roots and non-treated ones by SSH method. 94 up-regulated clones under salt stress were identified. OsSall is one of the most markedly up-regulated clones. OsSall gene encodes an AP2 domain-containing protein. Northern blot results showed that expression of OsSall was induced in rice by low temperature, drought, and abscisic acid (ABA) treatment both in roots and leaves. Functional analysis showed that OsSall was a transcriptional activator, capable of activating the transcription of the his3 and lacZ reporter gene and forming dimmers in yeast. Expression of OsSall -GFP fusion proteins in transgenic rice showed that OsSall localized in nucleus. The result of gel overly assays showed that OsSall can interact with calmodulin in vitro under high Ca2+concentration. Over-expression of OsSall in rice led to enhanced tolerance to salt, drought, and low temperature, and overdose expression of OsSall resulted in abnormal roots formation and more tillers in transgenic plants. These results suggest that OsSall may play important roles both in plant stress tolerance and its development process.

＜正＞All animals are able to perceive space and *** behaviors in space and physiological processes fluctuate to adapt approximately to the 24-hour day/night cycle created by the self-rotation of our *** mammals including humans,this circadian biorhythm is entrained mainly by daily changes in ambient luminance detected by newly-found intrinsically photoreceptive retinal ganglion cells,which project to several brain regions including the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus and the thalamic lateral geniculate *** multiunit and brain slice recordings have revealed a circadian oscillation of suprachiasmatic activity,but our knowledge is completely lacking about whether and（if yes）how single thalamic cells would synchronize their firing rates to external light/dark cycles. Here we show by single-cell recording from the pigeon that there exist light-activated and light-inhibited neurons in the nucleus opticus principalis thalami,homologue of the lateral geniculate *** photosensitive thalamic neurons not only change firing rates in synchrony with the luminance level of light/dark cycles with various periods applied to the viewing eye but also memorize their own entrained firing pattern and replay spiking rhythmically for up to hours under constant photic *** light that maximally activates intrinsically photoreceptive retinal ganglion cells is much more potent than achromatic light for photoentrainment of thalamic *** cells as master clocks also possess such photoresponse *** results shed new light on the neural principle with which external light/dark cycles are translated into an internal rhythm in the organism and strongly support involvement of luminance encoding thalamic cells in biological rhythmicity.

For the first time, fluid-melt inclusions are found in fluorite of the Huanggangliang skarn iron-tin deposit (HSID). The fluorite was formed in the main stage of mineralization, named the hydro-skarnization stage. The inclusions contain various components such as Fe, Mg and Cr from deep sources. The melts of primary inclusions are mainly Ca- and F-rich and those of secondary inclusions tend to become Si-rich. During this evolution process, the melts and iron daughter minerals decreased and even vanished. These facts reveal that the evolution of the primary mineralizing fluids and the differentiation of the fluids and melts are the main factors leading to the deposition of Fe, Sn and other elements. This discovery confirms the magmatic genesis of the HSID and has filled in the gaps in the research of magmatogenic skarn deposits and furnished new methods for such research. Furthermore, it has enlarged the scope of the research on fluid inclusions.
