The effects on finishing pigs(80-100 kg BW) fed diets supplemented with oil sources containing different ratios of unsaturated to saturated fatty acids(UFA:SFA ratio) were evaluated in 15 barrows and15 gilts(Duroc × Large White × Landrace). Three experimental diets were evaluated using a randomized complete block design, with broken rice, soybean meal and rice bran as the main feedstuffs in the control diet. Diets 2 and 3 consisted of the control diet supplemented with 3% oil, with UFA:SFA ratios of 2.5:1 and 5:1, respectively. Overall, there was no significant difference(P> 0.05) found in the average daily gain(ADG) of the pigs fed the treatment diets; however, the pigs fed the control diet and diet 3 had better(P 0.05)among the treatment groups with regard to the carcass quality of the pigs; however, it was found that the gilts had greater(P < 0.01) loin eye areas than the barrows fed diets 2 and 3 and the loin eye area of pig fed diet 2 was the largest(P < 0.05); In the case of the meat quality parameters, it was clearly found that the pigs fed the control diet had a greater(P < 0.05) lightness(L~*) in the meat colour, and the lowest cooking loss was found in the pigs fed the diet supplemented with fat containing the UFA:SFA ratio of 5:***, the dietary treatment did not significantly affect the drip loss, thawing loss and shear force of the pork. Growth performance,meat quality, and bone-breaking strength in broilers fed dietary rice hull silicon

Bone problems have been a key issue that perilously affects broilers’ health and welfare, resulting in severe economic loss. The present study was aimed at investigating the influence of dietary rice hull silicon(RHS) on the performance, meat quality, and bone-breaking strength of broilers. One hundred 10-day-old Arbor Acres chicks were used in the study. The birds were divided into 5 groups: one group was kept as the control, and other groups were provided with 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, and 10.0 mg/kg dietary RHS along with their basal diets. Results showed that diets containing various levels of dietary RHS did not adversely affect(P> 0.05) the body weight, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio, Drip loss of thigh meat showed a reduced value in the group supplemented with 7.5 mg/kg dietary RHS compared with other groups(P < 0.05), and the lowest thawing loss was observed in the same group;however, it showed no significant difference among other groups;Similarly, thawing loss of breast meat tended to decrease in the dietary RHS groups and significantly decreased(P < 0.05) in the 7.5 mg/kg RHS group. The shear force of breast meat was higher in all RHS groups, and the highest was in the 7.5 mg/kg RHS group(P < 0.05).Although tibia breaking strength increased significantly(P < 0.05) in the 7.5 mg/kg RHS group(P < 0.05),but a significant difference in femur breaking strength was not found among groups. In conclusion,dietary RHS can be used as a natural mineral supplement for improving bone-breaking strength and reducing drip and thawing loss of breast and thigh muscles;particularly RHS at a level of 7.5 mg/kg in broiler diets.

An aerobic composting method is studied to reuse organic waste from rubb er factory waste as soil fertilizer and to study the effect of cellulolytic microbial activator （CMA） as the activator in the rubber factory waste composting. The performance of the composting process was monitored as a function of carbon and organic matter decomposition rate, temperature and moisture content. The results indicate that the rubber factory waste is best composted with water hyacinth and sludge than composted alone. In addition, the CMA is more aft^ctive when mixed with the rubber factory waste, water hyacinth and sludge since a good fertilizer is achieved. When adding CMA into the rubber factory waste composted alone, the finished product does not achieve a standard of fertilizer, especially the C/N ratio. The finished products （both CMA and without CMA）, can be an environmental friendly alternative to solve the disposal problems of rubber factory waste, Since the C/N ratio, pH, moisture content, temperature, and nutrients of the finished products are acceptable for agriculture use.

Evaluation of Recombinant <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i>Antigens MPT64, CFP10, and ESAT6 for Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity Responses in Guinea Pigs

The tuberculin Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) skin test is widely used;however, the results are often inaccurate. Positive results can be observed in patients with active tuberculosis (TB) as well as in BCG-vaccinated persons and individuals who are infected with mycobacteria but have not developed the disease. MPT64, an antigen secreted from actively growing Mycobacterium tuberculosis and some strains of M. bovis BCG such as BCG Tokyo and BCG Russia, is immunogenic and elicits delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) in guinea pigs and humans. This antigen has been used to develop a new skin test for the diagnosis of active TB infection. Two of the antigens encoded by the M. tuberculosis-specific region of difference 1 (RD1, deleted in M. bovis BCG strains), CFP10 (culture filtrate protein 10) and ESAT6 (early secreted antigenic target-6), also induce M. tuberculosis-specific DTH responses. The aim of this study was to investigate the DTH responses in guinea pigs infected with M. tuberculosis or M. bovis BCG Tokyo elicited by three purified recombinant proteins (rMPT64, rCFP10 and rESAT6) compared to those elicited by PPD. In this study genes encoding MPT64, CFP10, and ESAT6 were cloned and expressed as recombinant proteins with the addition of a C-terminal His6 tag for ease of purification by Immobilized Metal ion Affinity Chromatography (IMAC). The recombinant proteins (rMPT64, rCFP10, and rESAT6) were purified to homogeneity and were used to elicit DTH responses in guinea pigs infected with M. tuberculosis or M. bovis BCG Tokyo. The results showed that rMPT64 elicits a DTH response comparable to that of PPD in M. bovis BCG Tokyo-vaccinated animals. However, M. tuberculosis-infected animals show less reactivity to rMPT64 than they do to PPD. Although single rCFP10 or rESAT6 did not readily elicit a DTH response in M. tuberculosis-infected animals, combining these antigens with rMPT64 led to an increased DTH response, thus enabling the detection of TB infection.

Objective:To analyze antioxidant and antibacterial properties of selected weeds commonly found in Northeast Thailand including Ageratum conyzoides L.,Alysicurpus vaginalis L.,Commelina bengalensis L.,Euphorbia hirta L.,Hyptis suaveoleiis L.,Parthenocissus quinquefolia L.,and Trianthema portulacastrum ***:Ferric reducing antioxidant power and radical scavenging activity of the aqueous and ethanol weed extracts were *** screening,total phenolic and Havonoid contents were *** activity against Aeromonas *** caviae,Edwardsiella tarda,Plesiomonas shigelloides,Ralstonia spp.,Xanthomonas campestris ***,Salmonella *** Shigella *** performed by disc diffusion ***:The results showed that Euphorbia hirta extract had the highest total phenolic contents and was the most effective against most of the test organisms compared to the other weed *** suaveoleiis ethanol extract weakly inhibited Ralstonia *** Salmonella spp.(10.42%and 9.84%inhibition,respectively).Trianthema portuiacastrum ethanol extract had20.10%inhibition against Shigella *** quinquefolia aqueous extract strongly inhibited Aeromonas caviae and Aeromonas hydrophila with 55.90%and 59.68%inhibition,***:These weeds may be serving as a potential source of antibacterial agents.

The plant secondary metabolites （PSM） are highly sought compounds for use as an alternative to conventionally used feed additives in animal production these days; Siamese neem leaf （Azadirachta indica A. Juss. var. siamenses Valeton） and Zanthoxylum pods （Zanthoxylum piperatum） are known to contain numerous such *** objectives of this study were to determine effects of feeding Siamese neem leaf and Zanthoxylum pods as feed additives on dry matter intake （DMI）, dry matter digestibility （DMD） and milk production and milk composition. Lactating Thai Holstein cows （n = 8） were arranged in two replicates of 4 x 4 Latin square designs, housed in individual stall, treatments consisted of Siamese neem 0.5 and 1.5 g kgl dry matter （DM）, ZanthoxylumO. 1 and 0.5 g kg1 DM added to the total mixed ration （TMR）. TMRand drinking water were provided ad lib. There were no significant differences （P 〉 0.05） in DMI and crude protein （CP）, acid detergent fiber （ADF）, neutral detergent fiber （NDF） digestibility, milk production and composition among the ***, significant difference （P 〈 0.05） was observed in dry matter （DM） and ether extract （EE） digestibility. Though statistically non-significant, Zanthoxylum at higher dose level tended to show low DMI （14.85 kg） in cows, while promotingmarginally higher milk （14.18 kg） production as compared with lower dose levelwhere DMI and milk production were 16.14 kg and 13.83 *** indicated that Zanthoxylum has a potential to improve feed digestion in dairy cows when used as additives.
