Characterization of NDM-5-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates from retail grass carp(Ctenopharyngodon idella) and evidence of blaNDM-5-bearing IncHI2 plasmid transfer between ducks and fish

We aimed to characterize NDM-5-producing Enterobacteriaceae from aquatic products in Guangzhou,China.A total of 196 intestinal samples of grass carp collected in 2019 were screened for carbapenemase genes.Characterization of bla_(NDM-5) positive isolates and plasmids was determined by antimicrobial susceptibility testing,conjugation experiments,Illumina HiSeq,and Nanopore sequencing.One Citrobacter freundii and six Escherichia coli strains recovered from seven intestinal samples were verified as bla_(NDM-5) carriers(3.57%,7/196).The bla_(NDM-5) genes were located on the lncX3(n=5),lncHI2(n=1),or lncHI2-lncF(n=1)plasmids.All bla_(NDM-5)-bearing plasmids were transferred by conjugation at frequencies of~10^(-4)-10^(-6).Based on sequence analysis,the lncHI2 plasmid pHNBYF33-1 was similar to other bla_(NDM-5)-carrying lncHI2 plasmids deposited in GenBank from Guangdong ducks.In all lncHI2 plasmids,bla_(NDM-5)was embedded in a novel transposon,Tn7057(IS3000-△ISAba125-IS5-△ISAba125-bla_(NDM-5)-bleMBL-trpF-tat-△dct-IS26-△umuD-△ISKox3-IS3000),which was identical to the genetic structure surrounding bla_(NDM-5)found in some IncX3 plasmids.The lncHI2-lncF hybrid plasmid pHNTH9F11-1 was formed by homologous recombination of the bla_(NDM-5)-carrying lncHI2 plasmid and a heavy-metal-resistant IncF plasmid through△Tn1721 To the best of our knowledge,this is the first report on the characterization of bla_(NDM-5)-bearing plasmids in fish in China.The lncHI2 plasmid pHNBYF33-1 may be transmitted from ducks,considering the common duck-fish freshwater aquaculture system in Guangdong.Tn7051 is likely responsible for the transfer of bla_(NDM-5) from lncX3 to lncHI2 plasmids in Enterobacteriaceae,resulting in the expansion of transmission vectors of bla_(NDM-5).

During a 2018 antimicrobial resistance surveillance of Escherichia coli isolates from diarrheal calves in Xinjiang Province,China,an unexpectedly high prevalence(48.5%)of fosfomycin resistance was observed.This study aimed to reveal the determinants of fosfomycin resistance and the underlying transmission mechanism.Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)screening showed that all fosfomycin-resistant E.coli carried the fosA3 gene.Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE)and southern blot hybridization revealed that the 16 fosA3-positive isolates belonged to four different PFGE patterns(i.e.,A,B,C,D).The fosA3 genes of 11 clonally related strains(pattern D)were located on the chromosome,while others were carried by plasmids.Whole-genome and long-read sequencing indicated that the pattern D strains were E.coli O101:H9-ST10,and the pattern C,B,and A strains were O101:H9-ST167,O8:H30-ST1431,and O101:H9 with unknown ST,respectively.Among the pattern C strains,the blaCTX-M-14 gene was co-localized with the fosA3 gene on the F18:A-:B1 plasmids.Interestingly,phylogenetic analysis based on core genome single nucleotide polymorphisms(cgSNPs)showed that the O101:H9-ST10 strains were closely related to a Australian-isolated Chroicocephalus-origin E.coli O101:H9-ST10 strain producing CTX-M-14 and FosA3,with a difference of only 11 SNPs.These results indicate possible international dissemination of the high-risk E.coli clone O101:H9-ST10 by migratory birds.

High-precision and real-time diagnosis of sucker rod pumping system(SRPS)is important for quickly mastering oil well operations.Deep learning-based method for classifying the dynamometer card(DC)of oil wells is an efficient diagnosis method.However,the input of the DC as a two-dimensional image into the deep learning framework suffers from low feature utilization and high computational effort.Additionally,different SRPSs in an oil field have various system parameters,and the same SRPS generates different DCs at different moments.Thus,there is heterogeneity in field data,which can dramatically impair the diagnostic accuracy.To solve the above problems,a working condition recognition method based on 4-segment time-frequency signature matrix(4S-TFSM)and deep learning is presented in this paper.First,the 4-segment time-frequency signature(4S-TFS)method that can reduce the computing power requirements is proposed for feature extraction of DC data.Subsequently,the 4S-TFSM is constructed by relative normalization and matrix calculation to synthesize the features of multiple data and solve the problem of data heterogeneity.Finally,a convolutional neural network(CNN),one of the deep learning frameworks,is used to determine the functioning conditions based on the 4S-TFSM.Experiments on field data verify that the proposed diagnostic method based on 4S-TFSM and CNN(4S-TFSM-CNN)can significantly improve the accuracy of working condition recognition with lower computational cost.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first work to discuss the effect of data heterogeneity on the working condition recognition performance of SRPS.

A boundary mode localized on one side of a finite-size lattice can tunnel to the opposite side which results in unwanted couplings.Conventional wisdom tells that the tunneling probability decays exponentially with the size of the system which thus requires many lattice sites before eventually becoming negligibly small.here we show that the tunneling probability for some boundary modes can apparently vanish at specific wavevectors.Thus,similar to bound states in the continuum,a boundary mode can be completely trapped within very few lattice sites where the bulk bandgap is not even well-defined.More intriguingly,the number of trapped states equals the number of lattice sites along the normal direction of the boundary.We provide two configurations and validate the existence of this peculiar finite barrier-bound state experimentally in a dielectric photonic crystal at microwave frequencies.Our work offers extreme flexibility in tuning the coupling between localized states and channels as well as a new mechanism that facilitates unprecedented manipulation of light.

Clustering for Bivariate Functional Data

In this paper,we consider the clustering of bivariate functional data where each random surface consists of a set of curves recorded repeatedly for each subject.The k-centres surface clustering method based on marginal functional principal component analysis is proposed for the bivariate functional data,and a novel clustering criterion is presented where both the random surface and its partial derivative function in two directions are considered.In addition,we also consider two other clustering methods,k-centres surface clustering methods based on product functional principal component analysis or double functional principal component analysis.Simulation results indicate that the proposed methods have a nice performance in terms of both the correct classification rate and the adjusted rand index.The approaches are further illustrated through empirical analysis of human mortality data.

Enhancing the Interaction of Carbon Nanotubes by Metal-Organic Decomposition with Improved Mechanical Strength and Ultra-Broadband EMI Shielding Performance

The remarkable properties of carbon nanotubes(CNTs)have led to promising applications in the field of electromagnetic inter-ference(EMI)shielding.However,for macroscopic CNT assemblies,such as CNT film,achieving high electrical and mechanical properties remains challenging,which heavily depends on the tube-tube interac-tions of CNTs.herein,we develop a novel strategy based on metal-organic decomposition(MOD)to fabricate a flexible silver-carbon nanotube(Ag-CNT)film.The Ag particles are introduced in situ into the CNT film through annealing of MOD,leading to enhanced tube-tube interactions.As a result,the electrical conductivity of Ag-CNT film is up to 6.82×10^(5) S m^(-1),and the EMI shielding effectiveness of Ag-CNT film with a thickness of~7.8μm exceeds 66 dB in the ultra-broad frequency range(3-40 GHz).The tensile strength and Young’s modulus of Ag-CNT film increase from 30.09±3.14 to 76.06±6.20 MPa(~253%)and from 1.12±0.33 to 8.90±0.97 GPa(~795%),respectively.Moreover,the Ag-CNT film exhibits excellent near-field shield-ing performance,which can effectively block wireless transmission.This innovative approach provides an effective route to further apply macroscopic CNT assemblies to future portable and wearable electronic devices.

Frequency and associated factors of accommodation and non-strabismic binocular vision dysfunction among medical university students

AIM:To investigate the frequency and associated factors of accommodation and non-strabismic binocular vision dysfunction among medical university students.METHODS:Totally 158 student volunteers underwent routine vision examination in the optometry clinic of Guangxi Medical University.Their data were used to identify the different types of accommodation and nonstrabismic binocular vision dysfunction and to determine their frequency.Correlation analysis and logistic regression were used to examine the factors associated with these abnormalities.RESULTS:The results showed that 36.71%of the subjects had accommodation and non-strabismic binocular vision issues,with 8.86%being attributed to accommodation dysfunction and 27.85%to binocular abnormalities.Convergence insufficiency(CI)was the most common abnormality,accounting for 13.29%.Those with these abnormalities experienced higher levels of eyestrain(χ2=69.518,Phe linear correlations were observed between the difference of binocular spherical equivalent(SE)and the index of horizontal esotropia at a distance(r=0.231,P=0.004)and the asthenopia survey scale(ASS)score(r=0.346,Phermore,the right eye's SE was inversely correlated with the convergence of positive and negative fusion images at close range(r=-0.321,Phe convergence of negative fusion images at close range(r=-0.294,Phe vergence facility(VF;r=-0.234,P=0.003),and the set of negative fusion images at far range(r=-0.237,P=0.003).Logistic regression analysis indicated that gender,age,and the difference in right and binocular SE did not influence the emergence of these abnormalities.CONCLUSION:Binocular vision abnormalities are more prevalent than accommodation dysfunction,with CI being the most frequent type.Greater binocular refractive disparity leads to more severe eyestrain symptoms.

Dear Editor,Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease,the most common inherited peripheral neuropathology,is highly heterogeneous among patients and associated with mutations in~100 different genes at an incidence of at least 1:2,500[1].Over 30 mutated genes have been identified in CMT2,which is characterized by peripheral axon degeneration and distal deficits in motor function[2].The aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase is the largest family in CMT2 and includes tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase(YARS,tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase).
