Brown carbon(BrC)is one of the important light absorption substances that have high light absorption ability under short wavelength light.However,limit studies have focused on the BrC emission from ships.In this study,size-segregated particulate matters(PM)were collected from three different types of ships,light absorption characteristics and size distribution of methanol-soluble BrC and water-soluble BrC in PM from ship exhausts were investigated.Results showed that four-stroke low-power diesel fishing boat(4-LDF)had the highest mass concentrations of methanol-soluble organic carbon(MSOC)and water-soluble organic carbon(WSOC),followed by 2-stroke high-power heavy-fuel-oil vessel(2-HHV),and fourstroke high-power marine-diesel vessel(4-HMV).While 2-HHV had obviously higher light absorption coefficients of methanol-soluble BrC(Abs365,M)and water-soluble BrC(Abs365,W)in unit weight of PM than the other two types of ships.The tested ships presented comparable or higher absorption efficiency of BrC in water extracts(MAE365,W)compared with other BrC emission sources.Majority of BrC was concentrated in fine particles,and the particle size distributions of both Abs365,Mand Abs365,Wshowed bimodal patterns,peaking at0.43–0.65μm and 4.7–5.8μm,respectively.However,different particle size distributions were found for MAE365,Mbetween diesel and heavy fuel oil ships.Besides,different wavelength dependence in particles with different size were also detected.Ship exhaust could be confirmed as a non-ignorable BrC emission source,and complex influencing factor could affect the light absorption characteristics of ship emissions.Particle size should also be considered when light absorption ability of BrC was evaluated.

The interfacial characteristics of the Li metal anode(LMA)play a crucial role in its overall performance.Despite various materials being applied to modify the interface,a comprehensive understanding of their specific mechanisms remains to be investigated.Herein,we have prepared carbon cloth(CC)frameworks with their surfaces modified using ferromagnetic metal/LiF heterogeneous films(T^(M)-LiF-CC)as the substrate for LMA,which exhibit superior electrochemical performance.Utilizing ferromagnetic Co as a representative example,our study demonstrates that the enhanced performance of Co-LiF-CC,compared to bare CC,is attributed to the spinpolarized interface contributed by the Co/LiF heterostructure.Co and LiF play individual roles in redistributing electrons and Li^(+)to promote homogeneous Li deposition.Co nanoparticles play a crucial role in generating strong surface capacitance by storing electrons in spin-split bands,while LiF,with low surface diffusion barriers,ensures fast transportation of Li^(+).The Co-LiF-CC@Li electrodes deliver long lives of 7400 and 3600 h at 1 and 2 mA·cm^(-2)in symmetric cells,respectively;moreover,they enable full batteries with high and durable capacities,particularly when the N/P ratios are low(3.3 or even 1.7).

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC)ranks among the most prevalent malignant tumors globally.Recent reports suggest that Fusobacterium nucleatum(F.nucleatum)contributes to the initiation,progression,and prognosis of CRC.Butyrate,a short-chain fatty acid derived from the bacterial fermentation of soluble dietary fiber,is known to inhibit various cancers.This study is designed to explore whether F.nucleatum influences the onset and progression of CRC by impacting the intestinal metabolite butyric acid.AIM To investigate the mechanism by which F.nucleatum affects CRC occurrence and development.METHODS Alterations in the gut microbiota of BALB/c mice were observed following the oral administration of F.nucleatum.Additionally,DLD-1 and HCT116 cell lines were exposed to sodium butyrate(NaB)and F.nucleatum in vitro to examine the effects on proliferative proteins and mitochondrial function.RESULTS Our research indicates that the prevalence of F.nucleatum in fecal samples from CRC patients is significantly greater than in healthy counterparts,while the prevalence of butyrate-producing bacteria is notably lower.In mice colonized with F.nucleatum,the population of butyrate-producing bacteria decreased,resulting in altered levels of butyric acid,a key intestinal metabolite of butyrate.Exposure to NaB can impair mitochondrial morphology and diminish mitochondrial membrane potential in DLD-1 and HCT116 CRC cells.Consequently,this leads to modulated production of adenosine triphosphate and reactive oxygen species,thereby inhibiting cancer cell prolif-eration.Additionally,NaB triggers the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)signaling pathway,blocks the cell cycle in HCT116 and DLD-1 cells,and curtails the proliferation of CRC cells.The combined presence of F.nucleatum and NaB attenuated the effects of the latter.By employing small interfering RNA to suppress AMPK,it was demonstrated that AMPK is essential for NaB’s inhibition of CRC cell proliferation.CONCLUSION F.nucleatum can promote cancer progression through

Introduction:The Shengxian decoction(SXT),a Chinese herbal medication used to treat heart failure,is composed of Astragali Radix,Anemarrhenae Rhizoma,Bupleuri Radix,Cimicifuage Rhizoma,and Platycodonis Radix.Knowledge of the excretion of the active compounds in this herbal medication is vital for investigating the underlying mechanisms behind its compatibility.However,this remains unclear.Methods:Liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was performed in both positive and negative modes to assay 18 constituents of SXT from rat urinary,fecal,and biliary samples.Results:The methodology was validated and showed good linearity(r≥0.9),precision,stability,repeatability,and recovery.The relative standard deviations and relative errors for the precision and accuracy did not exceed 15%.The recoveries of all the compounds ranged from 77.37%to 114.82%,and the matrix effect was between 82.53%and 105.71%.The results suggested that,when combined with Platycodonis Radix,the levels of 14 constituents from the four herbs were reduced in the urine,while the levels of six constituents were reduced in the feces.Conclusions:The comparative excretion results indicated that Platycodonis Radix reduced the excretion of compounds in SXT,demonstrating the compatibility mechanism and holistic properties of these compounds,favoring the pharmacological effects of SXT.

An empirical method for joint inversion of wave and wind parameters based on SAR and wave spectrometer data

Synthetic aperture radar(SAR)and wave spectrometers,crucial in microwave remote sensing,play an essential role in monitoring sea surface wind and wave conditions.However,they face inherent limitations in observing sea surface phenomena.SAR systems,for instance,are hindered by an azimuth cut-off phenomenon in sea surface wind field observation.Wave spectrometers,while unaffected by the azimuth cutoff phenomenon,struggle with low azimuth resolution,impacting the capture of detailed wave and wind field data.This study utilizes SAR and surface wave investigation and monitoring(SWIM)data to initially extract key feature parameters,which are then prioritized using the extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)algorithm.The research further addresses feature collinearity through a combined analysis of feature importance and correlation,leading to the development of an inversion model for wave and wind parameters based on XGBoost.A comparative analysis of this model with ERA5 reanalysis and buoy data for of significant wave height,mean wave period,wind direction,and wind speed reveals root mean square errors of 0.212 m,0.525 s,27.446°,and 1.092 m/s,compared to 0.314 m,0.888 s,27.698°,and 1.315 m/s from buoy data,respectively.These results demonstrate the model’s effective retrieval of wave and wind parameters.Finally,the model,incorporating altimeter and scatterometer data,is evaluated against SAR/SWIM single and dual payload inversion methods across different wind speeds.This comparison highlights the model’s superior inversion accuracy over other methods.

Mobile Edge Computing(MEC)is a promising technology that provides on-demand computing and efficient storage services as close to end users as possible.In an MEC environment,servers are deployed closer to mobile terminals to exploit storage infrastructure,improve content delivery efficiency,and enhance user experience.However,due to the limited capacity of edge servers,it remains a significant challenge to meet the changing,time-varying,and customized needs for highly diversified content of users.Recently,techniques for caching content at the edge are becoming popular for addressing the above challenges.It is capable of filling the communication gap between the users and content providers while relieving pressure on remote cloud servers.However,existing static caching strategies are still inefficient in handling the dynamics of the time-varying popularity of content and meeting users’demands for highly diversified entity data.To address this challenge,we introduce a novel method for content caching over MEC,i.e.,PRIME.It synthesizes a content popularity prediction model,which takes users’stay time and their request traces as inputs,and a deep reinforcement learning model for yielding dynamic caching schedules.Experimental results demonstrate that PRIME,when tested upon the MovieLens 1M dataset for user request patterns and the Shanghai Telecom dataset for user mobility,outperforms its peers in terms of cache hit rates,transmission latency,and system cost.

Coilia nasus,a migratory fish species found in the middle and lower reaches of the yangtze River and along offshore areas of China,possesses considerable aquacultural and economic potential.However,the species faces challenges due to significant variation in the gonadal development rate among females,resulting in inconsistent ovarian maturation times at the population level,an extended reproductive period,and limitations on fish growth rate due to ovarian prematurity.In the present study,we combined genome-wide association study(GWAS)and comparative transcriptome analysis to investigate the potential single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)and candidate genes associated with population-asynchronous ovarian development in C.nasus.Genotyping of the female population based on whole-genome resequencing yielded 2120695 high-quality SNPs,39 of which were suggestively associated with ovarian development.Of note,a significant SNP peak on LG21 containing 30 suggestively associated SNPs was identified,with cpne5a determined as the causal gene of the peak.Therefore,single-marker and haplotype association analyses were performed on cpne5a,revealing four genetic markers(P0.9)significantly associated with the phenotype.Comparative transcriptome analysis of precociously and normally maturing individuals screened out 29 and 426 overlapping differentially expressed genes in the brain and ovary,respectively,between individuals of different body sizes.Integrating the GWAS and transcriptome analysis results,this study identified genes and pathways related to hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis hormone secretion,extracellular matrix,angiogenesis,and gap junctions involved in population-asynchronous ovarian development.The insights gained from this study provide a basis for a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying ovarian development in fish and may facilitate the genetic breeding of C.nasus strains exhibiting population-synchronous ovarian development in the future.

Mutual regulation of microglia and astrocytes after Gas6 inhibits spinal cord injury

Invasive inflammation and excessive scar formation are the main reasons for the difficulty in repairing nervous tissue after spinal cord injury.Microglia and astrocytes play key roles in the spinal cord injury micro-environment and share a close interaction.However,the mechanisms involved remain unclear.In this study,we found that after spinal cord injury,resting microglia(M0)were polarized into pro-inflammatory phenotypes(MG1 and MG3),while resting astrocytes were polarized into reactive and scar-forming phenotypes.The expression of growth arrest-specific 6(Gas6)and its receptor Axl were significantly down-regulated in microglia and astrocytes after spinal cord injury.In vitro experiments showed that Gas6 had negative effects on the polarization of reactive astrocytes and pro-inflammatory microglia,and even inhibited the cross-regulation between them.We further demonstrated that Gas6 can inhibit the polarization of reactive astrocytes by suppressing the activation of the Yes-associated protein signaling pathway.This,in turn,inhibited the polarization of pro-inflammatory microglia by suppressing the activation of the nuclear factor-κB/p65 and Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription signaling pathways.In vivo experiments showed that Gas6 inhibited the polarization of pro-inflammatory microglia and reactive astrocytes in the injured spinal cord,thereby promoting tissue repair and motor function recovery.Overall,Gas6 may play a role in the treatment of spinal cord injury.It can inhibit the inflammatory pathway of microglia and polarization of astrocytes,attenuate the interaction between microglia and astrocytes in the inflammatory microenvironment,and thereby alleviate local inflammation and reduce scar formation in the spinal cord.

Objective: This study aimed to explore andrographolide's mechanism of action and its protective effect on noise-induced hearing loss(NIHL). Materials and Methods: A mice animal model for NIHL was established through exposure to broadband noise at 120 d B sound pressure level for 4 h. Transcriptomics analysis and pharmacodynamic experiments were carried out. Results: Andrographolide enters the inner ear and effectively prevents hearing damage following noise exposure in the mice model for permanent hearing loss. Moreover, treatment with andrographolide inhibited the excessive activation of inflammatory factors in the cochleae of noise-exposed mice. Conclusion: Andrographolide might be a promising candidate for auditory protective drug investigation.
