Objective: To evaluate normal spermatozoa morphometry and ultrastructure in estuarine crocodile (Crocodylus porosus). Methods: Four adult male crocodiles aged between 12-15 years, with an average snout to tail length of (3.15±0.01) m were selected for this study. Manipulation of the phallus digitally from the base of the penis was performed on four adult male crocodiles to facilitate the flow of semen to the sulcus. Semen was collected from all individuals for spermatozoa morphometry and ultrastructure study. Morphometry analysis was performed from eosin-nigrosin stained spermatozoa sample. Scanning electron microscopy was conducted to observe the surface ultrastructure of spermatozoa. Results: The morphology of crocodile spermatozoa was made up of acrosome, head, and tail which corresponded to (5.55±1.20) μm, (12.74±1.57) μm, and (70.67±4.40) μm, respectively. The total length of spermatozoa in estuarine crocodile was measured at (88.96±0.52) μm. The most common spermatozoa abnormalities found in the samples were cytoplasmic droplets. Conclusions: normal morphology, morphometry of spermatozoa in estuarine crocodile which are vermiform shaped-head with a long tail along with questionably high cytoplasmic droplets count are described in this study.

BACKGROUND Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis remains a major problem due to its high incidence,high risk,and high cost.One of the aims of the management in scoliosis is to correct the deformity.Many techniques are available to correct scoliosis deformity;however,they are all far from ideal to achieve three-dimensional correction in scoliosis.AIM To develop a set of tools named Scoliocorrector Fatma-UI(SCFUI)to aid threedimensional correction and to evaluate the efficacy,safety,and functional outcome.METHODS This study consists of two stages.In the first stage,we developed the SCFUI and tested it in finite element and biomechanical tests.The second stage was a single-blinded randomized clinical trial to evaluate the SCFUI compared to direct vertebral rotation(DVR).Forty-four subjects with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were randomly allocated into the DVR group(n=23)and SCFUI group(n=21).Radiological,neurological,and functional outcome was compared between the groups.RESULTS Finite element revealed the maximum stress of the SCFUI components to be between 31.2-252 MPa.Biomechanical analysis revealed the modulus elasticity of SCFUI was 9561324±633277 MPa.Both groups showed improvement in Cobb angle and sagittal profile,however the rotation angle was lower in the SCFUI group(11.59±7.46 vs 18.23±6.39,P=0.001).Neurological and functional outcome were comparable in both groups.CONCLUSION We concluded that SCFUI developed in this study resulted in similar coronal and sagittal but better rotational correction compared to DVR.The safety and functional outcomes were also similar to DVR.

Cardiovascular risk factors among older persons with cognitive frailty in middle income country

BACKGROUND Cognitive frailty,characterized by the coexistence of cognitive impairment and physical frailty,represents a multifaceted challenge in the aging population.The role of cardiovascular risk factors in this complex interplay is not yet fully understood.AIM To investigate the relationships between cardiovascular risk factors and older persons with cognitive frailty by pooling data from two cohorts of studies in Malaysia.METHODS A comprehensive approach was employed,with a total of 512 communitydwelling older persons aged 60 years and above,involving two cohorts of older persons from previous studies.Datasets related to cardiovascular risks,namely sociodemographic factors,and cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes,hypercholesterolemia,anthropometric characteristics and biochemical profiles,were pooled for analysis.Cognitive frailty was defined based on the Clinical Dementia Rating scale and Fried frailty score.Cardiovascular risk was determined using Framingham risk score.Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 21.RESULTS Of the study participants,46.3%exhibited cognitive frailty.Cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension(OR:1.60;95%CI:1.12-2.30),low fat-free mass(OR:0.96;95%CI:0.94-0.98),high percentage body fat(OR:1.04;95%CI:1.02-1.06),high waist circumference(OR:1.02;95%CI:1.01-1.04),high fasting blood glucose(OR:1.64;95%CI:1.11-2.43),high Framingham risk score(OR:1.65;95%CI:1.17-2.31),together with sociodemographic factors,i.e.,being single(OR 3.38;95%CI:2.26-5.05)and low household income(OR 2.18;95%CI:1.44-3.30)were found to be associated with cognitive frailty.CONCLUSION Cardiovascular-risk specific risk factors and sociodemographic factors were associated with risk of cognitive frailty,a prodromal stage of dementia.Early identification and management of cardiovascular risk factors,particularly among specific group of the population might mitigate the risk of cognitive frailty,hence preventing dementia.

Malaria remains a public health problem in many parts of the world.It is a disease that can endanger human life if left untreated,especially among young children and pregnant women.In Malaysia,the number of malaria cases has decreased significantly since the introduction of the Malaria Elimination Program in 1961 in Malaysia Borneo,and in 1967 in Peninsular Malaysia.Since 1988,malaria has been on the notifiable disease list under the Communicable Diseases Act of Malaysia that mandates notification within 7 days.The significant progress towards the national elimination programme and effective disease notification on malaria has resulted in zero indigenous human malaria cases in 2018[1].

PoIR: A Node Selection Mechanism in Reputation-Based Blockchain Consensus Using Bidirectional LSTM Regression Model

This research presents a reputation-based blockchain consensus mechanism called Proof of Intelligent Reputation(PoIR)as an alternative to traditional Proof of Work(PoW).PoIR addresses the limitations of existing reputationbased consensus mechanisms by proposing a more decentralized and fair node selection process.The proposed PoIR consensus combines Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(BiLSTM)with the Network Entity Reputation Database(NERD)to generate reputation scores for network entities and select authoritative nodes.NERD records network entity profiles based on various sources,i.e.,Warden,Blacklists,DShield,AlienVault Open Threat Exchange(OTX),and MISP(Malware Information Sharing Platform).It summarizes these profile records into a reputation score value.The PoIR consensus mechanism utilizes these reputation scores to select authoritative nodes.The evaluation demonstrates that PoIR exhibits higher centralization resistance than PoS and PoW.Authoritative nodes were selected fairly during the 1000-block proposal round,ensuring a more decentralized blockchain ecosystem.In contrast,malicious nodes successfully monopolized 58%and 32%of transaction processes in PoS and PoW,respectively,but failed to do so in PoIR.The findings also indicate that PoIR offers efficient transaction times of 12 s,outperforms reputation-based consensus such as PoW,and is comparable to reputation-based consensus such as PoS.Furthermore,the model evaluation shows that BiLSTM outperforms other Recurrent Neural Network models,i.e.,BiGRU(Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit),UniLSTM(Unidirectional Long Short-Term Memory),and UniGRU(Unidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit)with 0.022 Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE).This study concludes that the PoIR consensus mechanism is more resistant to centralization than PoS and PoW.Integrating BiLSTM and NERD enhances the fairness and efficiency of blockchain applications.

Controlled C-N configurations,i.e.,pyrrolic-N,pyridinic-N,and graphitic-N,are promising strategies to tailor the carbon dots’(CDs)optical properties into the first near infrared(NIR)window(650-900 nm),a responsive range for biomedical application.However,a deep understanding of the role of the C-N configuration in the CDs’properties is still challenging and thoughtprovoking owing to their complex structure.Here,an underlying pyrrolic-N concentration and position effect on the pyrrolic-N-rich CDs’absorption was comprehensively elucidated based on the integrated experimental and computational studies.The assynthesized pyrrolic-N-rich CDs exhibit a first NIR window absorption centered at 650 nm with high photothermal conversion.Pyrrolic-N concentrations from 1.4%to 11.3%and positions(edge and mid-site)were systematically investigated.A mid-site pyrrolic-N was subsequently generated after the pyrrolic-N concentration more than 10%.Edge-site pyrrolic-N induces a frontier orbital hybridization,reducing bandgap energy,while mid-site pyrrolic-N plays a critical role in inducing a first NIR window absorption owing to their high charge transfer.Also,pyrrolic-N-rich CDs inherit a bowl-like topological feature,elevating the CDs’layer thickness as much as 0.71 nm.This study shed light on the design and optimization of pyrrolic-N on CDs for the first NIR window responsive materials in any biomedical application.

Scanometry as microplate reader for high throughput method based on DPPH dry reagent for antioxidant assay

The stable chromogenic radical 1,1'-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) solution was immobilized on the microwell plate as dry reagent to construct a simple antioxidant sensor. Then, a regular flatbed scanner was used as microplate reader to obtain analytical parameters for antioxidant assay using one-shot optical sensors as scanometry technique. Variables affecting the acquisition of the images were optimized and the analytical parameters are obtained from an area of the sensing zone inside microwell using the average luminosity of the sensing zone captured as the mean of red, green, and blue(RGB)value using Image J~program. By using this RGB value as sensor response, it is possible to determine antioxidant capacity in the range 1–25 ppm as gallic acid equivalent(GAE) with the response time of 9 min. The reproducibility of sensor was good(RSD<1%) with recovery at 93%–96%. The antioxidant sensor was applied to the plant extracts, such as sappan wood and Turmeric Rhizome. The results are good when compared to the same procedure using a UV/Vis spectrophotometer.

The Indonesian version of the Premature Infant Pain Profile-Revised:Translation and adaptation of a neonatal pain assessment

Purpose: Pain assessment is a key component of good pain management in hospitalized infants.This study aimed to translate and adapt a version of pain measurement in infants,the Premature Infant Pain Profile Revised (PIPP-R) into Indonesian.Method: The adaptation process of the measuring instrument used a modified Brislin method which included forward translation,back translation 1,group discussion 1,back translation 2,group discussion 2,and pilot testing on neonatal nurses: feasibility test,inter-rater reliability using intraclass correlation (ICC),and internal consistency using Cronbach's α coefficient.Results: The PIPP-R version in English has been translated into Indonesian.In general,nurses assessed this measuring instrument as feasible.The inter-rater reliability showed a high agreement (ICC =0.968,P=0.001) and this measuring instrument had good internal consistency (Cronbach's α=0.856).Conclusion: The Indonesian version of PIPP-R is easy to use and shows good psychometric properties.The use of this measuring instrument will help nurses and researchers obtain accurate infant pain intensity measurement values.

Enhancing of nominal characteristic trajectory following control for motion systems

The goal of this paper is to enhance a practical nominal characteristic trajectory following(NCTF) controller that is specifically designed for two-mass point-to-point positioning systems. A nominal characteristics trajectory contained in the NCTF controller acts as movement/motion reference and a compensator is utilized to force the object to detect and follow the reference/desired trajectory. The object must follow and track closely and should be as fast as possible. The NCTF controller is designed with two different intelligent based compensator approaches which are fuzzy logic and extended minimal resource allocation network. The proposed controller which is NCTF are compared with the conventional proportional integral compensator. Then the results of simulation are discussed for the positioning performances. The inertia variations due to the effect of the design parameters are also assessed to see the robustness of controllers. The results show that the NCTF control method designed from an intelligent based compensator has a better positioning performance in terms of percentage of overshoot, settling time, and steady state error than the classical based compensator.

Application of Cow Manure Combined with Rice Husk Ash to Increase Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr) Production in Indonesia Ultisol

This study aims to determine the ability of CM(Cow Manure)combined with RHA(Rice Husk Ash)to provide a significant effect on the growth and production of soybean planted in an ultisol.It was conducted in a pot experiment at the Experimental Site of the Faculty of Agriculture,Sriwijaya University,Indralaya,Indonesia between September 2019 and February 2020 using completely randomized design factorial with two factors which were two rate levels of RHA at 3.75 and 7.5 tons·ha^(-1) and three rate levels of CM at 0,10,and 20 tons·ha^(-1).It is important to note that each combination was repeated three times,thereby,leading to a total of 18 pots.The variables studied were plant growth and yield which are represented by plant height,the total number of pods,number of filled pods,seed weight per plant,and soybean produced.The results showed that CM combined with RHA was effective in increasing nutrient availability and reducing soil acidity.It was discovered that CM had a significant effect on soil pH,plant height,the total number of pods,number of filled pods,seed weight per plant,and soybean produced while RHA did not have any significant difference on all the variables observed.However,the combination of 10 tons·ha-1 CM with 3.75 tons·ha-1 RHA was observed to be the best combination treatment to increase the growth and production of soybean in ultisol as indicated by its ability to produce 2.58 tons·ha^(-1) soybean.
