BACKGROUND Hepatitis B cirrhosis(HBC)is a chronic disease characterized by irreversible diffuse liver damage and aggravated by intestinal microbial imbalance and metabolic dysfunction.Although the relationship between certain single probiotics and HBC has been explored,the impact of the complex ready-to-eat Lactobacillus paracasei N1115(LP N1115)supplement on patients with HBC has not been determined.AIM To compare the changes in the microbiota,inflammatory factor levels,and liver function before and after probiotic treatment in HBC patients.METHODS This study included 160 HBC patients diagnosed at the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University between October 2018 and December 2020.Patients were randomly divided into an intervention group that received LP N1115 supplementation and routine treatment and a control group that received routine treatment only.Fecal samples were collected at the onset and conclusion of the 12-wk intervention period.The structure of the intestinal microbiota and the levels of serological indicators,such as liver function and inflammatory factors,were assessed.RESULTS Following LP N1115 intervention,the intestinal microbial diversity significantly increased in the intervention group(Pmatory factors(Pmatory factor levels.

Immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)therapy for cancer has achieved great success both in clinical results and on the market.At the same time,success drives more attention from scientists to improve it.However,only a small portion of patients are responsive to this therapy,and it comes with a unique spectrum of side effects termed immunerelated adverse events(irAEs).The use of nanotechnology could improve ICBs’delivery to the tumor,assist them in penetrating deeper into tumor tissues and alleviate their irAEs.Liposomal nanomedicine has been investigated and used for decades,and is well-recognized as the most successful nano-drug delivery system.The successful combination of ICB with liposomal nanomedicine could help improve the efficacy of ICB therapy.In this review,we highlighted recent studies using liposomal nanomedicine(including new emerging exosomes and their inspired nanovesicles)in associating ICB therapy.

The fatigue damage caused by flow-induced vibration(FIV)is one of the major concerns for multiple cylindrical structures in many engineering applications.The FIV suppression is of great importance for the security of many cylindrical structures.many active and passive control methods have been employed for the vibration suppression of an isolated cylinder undergoing vortex-induced vibrations(VIV).The FIV suppression methods are mainly extended to the multiple cylinders from the vibration control of the isolated cylinder.Due to the mutual interference between the multiple cylinders,the FIV mechanism is more complex than the VIV mechanism,which makes a great challenge for the FIV suppression.Some efforts have been devoted to vibration suppression of multiple cylinder systems undergoing FIV over the past two decades.The control methods,such as helical strakes,splitter plates,control rods and flexible sheets,are not always effective,depending on many influence factors,such as the spacing ratio,the arrangement geometrical shape,the flow velocity and the parameters of the vibration control devices.The FIV response,hydrodynamic features and wake patterns of the multiple cylinders equipped with vibration control devices are reviewed and summarized.The FIV suppression efficiency of the vibration control methods are analyzed and compared considering different influence factors.Further research on the FIV suppression of multiple cylinders is suggested to provide insight for the development of FIV control methods and promote engineering applications of FIV control methods.

Rodent pests not only cause severe agricultural loss but also spread zoonotic pathogens to human beings.Antico-agulant rodenticides are widely used to decrease the population densities of rodents but often lead to the spillover of ectoparasites becausefleas and ticks may gather on surviving rodents.Therefore,it is necessary to killfleas and ticks before culling rodents to minimize the risk of pathogen transmission.In this study,we used a mixture of ivermectin(an antiparasitic drug)and bromadiolone(an anticoagulant rodenticide)to control both rodent andflea/tick abundances.We found that in a laboratory test,0.01%ivermectin bait was not lethal for greater long-tailed hamsters after 7 days of treatment,while 0.1%ivermectin bait was lethal for approximately 33%of treated rodents.In afield test,bait containing 0.001%,0.005%,0.01%,and 0.05%ivermectin decreased the number offleas per vole of Brandt’s voles to 0.42,0.22,0.12,and 0.2,respectively,compared with 0.77 in the control group,indicating that 0.01%ivermectin bait performed best in removingfleas.In another laboratory test,bait containing a 0.01%ivermectin and 0.005%bromadiolone mixture caused the death of all voles within 6–14 days after the intake of the bait.In thefield test,the bait containing 0.01%ivermectin and 0.005%bromadiolone reduced the average number offleas per vole to 0.35,which was significantly lower than the 0.77 of the control group.Our results indicate that a 0.01%ivermectin and 0.005%bromadiolone mixture could be used to control both rodents andfleas to minimize the spillover risk of disease transmission when using traditional rodenticides.

Diabetic osteoporosis(DOP)is a significant complication that poses continuous threat to the bone health of patients with diabetes;however,currently,there are no effective treatment strategies.In patients with diabetes,the increased levels of ferroptosis affect the osteogenic commitment and differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs),leading to significant skeletal changes.To address this issue,we aimed to target ferroptosis and propose a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of DOP.We synthesized ferroptosis-suppressing nanoparticles,which could deliver curcumin,a natural compound,to the bone marrow using tetrahedral framework nucleic acid(tFNA).This delivery system demonstrated excellent curcumin bioavailability and stability,as well as synergistic properties with tFNA.Both in vitro and in vivo experiments revealed that nanoparticles could enhance mitochondrial function by activating the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2(NRF2)/glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4)pathway,inhibiting ferroptosis,promoting the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs in the diabetic microenvironment,reducing trabecular loss,and increasing bone formation.These findings suggest that curcumin-containing DNA tetrahedron-based ferroptosissuppressing nanoparticles have a promising potential for the treatment of DOP and other ferroptosis-related diseases.

Currently,the microwave absorbers usually suffer dreadful electromagnetic wave absorption(EMWA)performance damping at elevated temperature due to impedance mismatching induced by increased conduction loss.Consequently,the development of high-performance EMWA materials with good impedance matching and strong loss ability in wide temperature spectrum has emerged as a top priority.Herein,due to the high melting point,good electrical conductivity,excellent environmental stability,EM coupling effect,and abundant interfaces of titanium nitride(TiN)nanotubes,they were designed based on the controlling kinetic diffusion procedure and Ostwald ripening process.Benefiting from boosted heterogeneous interfaces between TiN nanotubes and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS),enhanced polarization loss relaxations were created,which could not only improve the depletion efficiency of EMWA,but also contribute to the optimized impedance matching at elevated temperature.Therefore,the TiN nanotubes/PDMS composite showed excellent EMWA performances at varied temperature(298-573 K),while achieved an effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)value of 3.23 GHz and a minimum reflection loss(RLmin)value of−44.15 dB at 423 K.This study not only clarifies the relationship between dielectric loss capacity(conduction loss and polarization loss)and temperature,but also breaks new ground for EM absorbers in wide temperature spectrum based on interface engineering.

The present study was to explore the Ile requirement of piglets fed 18% crude protein(CP) diets. Two hundred and fifty 28-day-old Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire piglets(8.37 ± 1.92 kg) were randomly divided into 5 dietary treatments(10 piglets per replicate, 5 barrows and 5 gilts per replicate) with 45%,50%, 55%, 60%, 65% standardized ileal digestible(SID) Ile-to-Lys ratios, and the SID Lys was formulated to1.19%. The experimental design consisted of two phases(d 1 to 14 and d 15 to 28). Results showed that average daily gain(ADG) had a tendency to quadratically increase as the SID Ile-to-Lys ratio increased(P = 0.09), and the optimum SID Ile-to-Lys ratios required to maximize ADG were 48.33% and 54.63% for broken-line linear model and quadratic polynomial model, respectively. Different SID Ile-to-Lys ratios had no significant effects on average daily feed intake and gain-to-feed ratio. Dry matter(P matter(P < 0.01) digestibility increased quadratically. Serum total cholesterol levels decreased linearly(P = 0.01) and quadratically(P < 0.01); aspartate aminotransferase(P < 0.01), interleukin-1β(P = 0.01), and tumor necrosis factor-a(P < 0.01) levels decreased quadratically; immunoglobulin G(P = 0.03) and immunoglobulin M(P = 0.01)concentrations increased quadratically. Serum Ser levels decreased linearly(P < 0.01) and quadratically(P = 0.01); Glu(P = 0.02), Arg(P = 0.05), and Thr(P = 0.03) levels decreased quadratically; Gly(P < 0.01)and Leu(P = 0.01) levels decreased linearly; Ile(P < 0.01) concentration increased linearly. Duodenal villus height(P < 0.01) and villus height to crypt depth ratio(P < 0.01) increased quadratically. The deficiency or excess of Ile decreased short chain fatty acid-producing bacteria abundance and increased pathogenic bacteria abundance. Overall, taking ADG as the effect index, the optimum SID Ile-to-Lys ratios of piglets offered 18% CP diets were 48.33% and 54.63% based on two different statistical models

Predicting PM_(2.5) Concentration in the Yangtze River Delta Region Using Climate System Monitoring Indices and machine Learning

Changing meteorological conditions during autumn and winter have considerable impact on air quality in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)region.External climatic factors,such as sea surface temperature and sea ice,together with the atmospheric circulation,directly affect meteorological conditions in the YRD region,thereby modulating the variation in atmospheric PM_(2.5) concentration.This study used the evolutionary modeling machine learning technique to investigate the lag relationship between 144 climate system monitoring indices and autumn/winter PM_(2.5) concentration over 0-12 months in the YRD region.After calculating the contribution ratios and lagged correlation coefficients of all indices over the previous 12 months,the top 36 indices were selected for model training.Then,the nine indices that contributed most to the PM_(2.5) concentration in the YRD region,including the decadal oscillation index of the Atlantic Ocean and the consistent warm ocean temperature index of the entire tropical Indian Ocean,were selected for physical mechanism analysis.An evolutionary model was developed to forecast the average PM_(2.5) concentration in major cities of the YRD in autumn and winter,with a correlation coefficient of 0.91.In model testing,the correlation coefficient between the predicted and observed PM_(2.5) concentrations was in the range of 0.73-0.83 and the root-mean-square error was in the range of 9.5-11.6μg m-3,indicating high predictive accuracy.The model performed exceptionally well in capturing abnormal changes in PM_(2.5) concentration in the YRD region up to 50 days in advance.

Gut-liver-brain axis is a three-way highway of information interaction system among the gastrointestinal tract,liver,and nervous systems.In the past few decades,breakthrough progress has been made in the gut liver brain axis,mainly through understanding its formation mechanism and increasing treatment strategies.In this review,we discuss various complex networks including barrier permeability,gut hormones,gut microbial metabolites,vagus nerve,neurotransmitters,immunity,brain toxic metabolites,β-amyloid(Aβ)metabolism,and epigenetic regulation in the gut-liver-brain axis.Some therapies containing antibiotics,probiotics,prebiotics,synbiotics,fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT),polyphenols,low FODmaP diet and nanotechnology application regulate the gut liver brain axis.Besides,some special treatments targeting gut-liver axis include farnesoid X receptor(FXR)agonists,takeda G protein-coupled receptor 5(TGR5)agonists,glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)receptor antagonists and fibroblast growth factor 19(FGF19)analogs.Targeting gut-brain axis embraces cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT),antidepressants and tryptophan metabolism-related therapies.Targeting liver-brain axis contains epigenetic regulation and Aβmetabolism-related therapies.In the future,a better understanding of gut-liver-brain axis interactions will promote the development of novel preventative strategies and the discovery of precise therapeutic targets in multiple diseases.

Dimerized small-molecule acceptors(Smas) built by the conventional connection of terminal groups of monomers have contributed to exciting long-term stabilities of organic solar cells(OSCs). However, device efficiencies, especially fill factors(FFs), still need to be improved. This probably originates from unsymmetrical molecular structure/conformation-determined less compact/ordered molecular stackings, such as ineffective stackings of constraint terminals. Herein, an exotic dimerized Sma of BC-Th is established by bridging the branched groups(BC-type, branch coupling) of two monomers rather than conventional terminal units(TC-type, terminal coupling). Benefiting from the three-dimensional conformation and more uncurbed terminals,BC-Th exhibits multiple molecular orientations along with a larger dielectric constant and electron mobility compared with TCTh. Finally, an efficiency of 17.43% is achieved by BC-Th-based OSCs, along with the highest FF of 79.13% among all dimerized Smas-based OSCs to date. When introducing L8-BO as the third component, overall enhanced efficiency of 18.05%and FF of 80.11% are further afforded. Contrarily, TC-Th-based OSCs exhibit much inferior PCE of 16.29% and FF of 74.81%,demonstrating the great advantages of “branch coupling” over “terminal coupling” when building dimerized Smas.
