Chitosan and chemically modified chitosan beads for acid dyes sorption

The capabilities of chitosan and chitosan-EGDE （ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether） beads for removing Acid Red 37 （AR 37） and Acid Blue 25 （AB 25） from aqueous solution were examined. Chitosan beads were cross-linked with EGDE to enhance its chemical resistance and mechanical strength. Experiments were performed as a function ofpH, agitation period and concentration of AR 37 and AB 25. It was shown that the adsorption capacities of chitosan for both acid dyes were comparatively higher than those of chitosan- EGDE. This is mainly because cross-linking using EGDE reduces the major adsorption sites -NH3＋ on chitosan. Langmuir isotherm model showed the best conformity compared to Freundlich and BET. The kinetic experimental data agreed very well to the pseudo second-order kinetic model. The desorption study revealed that after three cycles of adsorption and desorption by NaOH and HCl, both adsorbents retained their promising adsorption abilities. FT-IR analysis proved that the adsorption of acid dyes onto chitosan-based adsorbents was a physical adsorption. Results also showed that chitosan and chitosan-EGDE beads were favourable adsorbers and could be employed as low-cost alternatives for the removal of acid dyes in wastewater treatment.

Effect of alloying on the carrier dynamics in high-performance perovskite solar cells

High-efficiency solar cells often require light absorbers prepared from alloys, such as Cd Te_(1-x)Se_(x),CuIn_(x)Ga_(1-x)Se_(2), Cu_(2)ZnSnS_(4-x)Se_(x), and(Cs_(x)FA_(1-x))Pb(I_(1-y)Br_(y))_(3). However, how alloying affects solar cell performance is poorly understood, and determining common features associated with alloying is of significant interest. Herein, we studied the correlation between the A/X site compositional ratio and the photogenerated carrier dynamics using mixed halide perovskites(Cs_(x)FA_(1-x))Pb(I_(1-y)Br_(y))_(3)as *** molecular dynamics calculations demonstrated that charge carrier recombination is highly sensitive to the compositional ratio at the A/X-site. The enhanced lifetime is attributable to the suppression of atomic fluctuations, the weakening of electron-phonon coupling, and a reduction in the electrontransition probability between band edges. The optimal Br concentration was determined to be ~18%, in agreement with experimental observations. This study not only advances our understanding of why mixed perovskites usually exhibit superior experimental photoelectric properties, but also provides a route for optimizing the carrier lifetimes and efficiencies of perovskite solar cells.

Background:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a liver disorder characterized by the accumulation and degeneration of fat in the liver cells,a condition that may further deteriorate and lead to cirrhosis and liver *** studies showed that metabolic dysfunction can promote NAFLD *** Zhugan Decoction(LGZGD)has therapeutic effects on *** mechanism of LGZGD still remains *** study was to examine the impact of LGZGD on the metabolic processes involved in the development of ***:A mice model of NAFLD was treated with *** therapeutic potential of LGZGD was evaluated by assessing the activity of transaminases,lipids levels of blood,and pathological changes in the liver of the mice model of ***,this study also evaluated the influence of LGZGD on liver inflammation and oxidative ***:The results of untargeted metabolomics analysis showed that LGZGD reduced the disordered lipid metabolism in NAFLD *** improved the oxidative stress and also reduced the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the *** metabolomics analysis of liver samples revealed that LGZGD treatment improved metabolic disorders,including alanine,aspartate,glutamate,glycerophospholipid metabolism,and citrate *** RT-qPCR and Western blot results showed that LGZGD could regulate the expression of key enzymes in the metabolic pathway of the citrate cycle,including ATP-citrate lyase(ACLY),alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase-2(AGXT2),phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase(PEMT),and succinate dehydrogenase(SDH).Conclusion:We found that LGZGD can treat NAFLD by reducing inflammatory responses,inhibiting oxidative stress,regulating alanine,aspartate,glutamate,and glycerophospholipid metabolism,and citrate cycle pathways.

The latest business practice in the Chinese venture capital(VC)market involves the active participation of non-financial firms,as limited partners,in VC *** a unique hand-collected dataset from China,we find that economic policy uncertainty is positively related to the propensity of firms to participate in VC ***-sectional tests show that the positive effect of policy uncertainty on the likelihood of participating in VC funds is enhanced by industrial growth ***,economic consequence tests show that participating in VC funds is conducive to improving investment efficiency,increasing innovation performance and promoting product *** study advances our understanding of firms’investment decisions and the VC industry development amid economic policy uncertainty.

Modifications of ALPPS–from complex to more complex or from complex to less complex operations

BACKGROUND: Associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) has recently been developed to induce rapid liver hypertrophy to reduce the chance of post-hepatectomy liver failure in patients with borderline or insufficient future liver remnant. ALPPS is still in an early developmental stage and its techniques have not been standardized. This study aimed to review the technical modifications of the conventional ALPPS procedure. DATA SOURCES: Studies were identified by searching MEDLINE and PubMed for articles published from January 2007 to December 2016 using the keywords 'associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy' and 'ALPPS'. Additional articles were identified by a manual search of references from key articles. RESULTS: There have been a lot of modifications of the conventional ALPPS. These are classified as: (1) modifications aiming to improve surgical results; (2) modifications aiming to expand surgical indications; (3) salvage ALPPS; (4) ALPPS using the minimally invasive approach. Some of these modifications have made the conventional ALPPS procedure to become even more complex, although there have also been other attempts to make the procedure less complex. The results of most of these modifications have been reported in small case series or case reports. We need better well-designed studies to establish the true roles of these modifications. However, it is interesting to see how this conventional ALPPS procedure has evolved since its introduction. CONCLUSIONS: There is a trend for the use of minimally invasive procedure in the phase 1 or 2 of the conventional ALPPS procedure. Some of these modifications have expanded the use of ALPPS in patients who have been considered to have unresectable liver tumors. The long-term oncological outcomes of these modifications are still unknown.

Spatial Variability of Soil Organic Carbon and Related Factors in Jiangsu Province,China

Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays a key role in the global carbon *** this study,we used statistical and geostatistical methods to characterize and compare the spatial heterogeneity of SOC in soils of Jiangsu Province,China,and investigate the factors that influence it,such as topography,soil type,and land *** study was based on 24 186 soil samples obtained from the surface soil layer (0-0.2 m) and covering the entire area of the *** values of SOC density in the surface layer,obtained by kriging based on a spherical model,ranged between 3.25 and 32.43 kg m *** highest SOC densities tended to occur in the Taihu Plain,Lixia River Plain,along the Yangtze River,and in high-elevation hilly areas such as those in northern and southwest Jiangsu,while the lowest values were found in the coastal ***,slope,soil type,and land use type significantly affected SOC *** slope tended to result in SOC *** between elevation and SOC densities was positive in the hill areas but negative in the low plain areas,probably due to the effect of different land cover types,temperature,and soil *** SOC densities were usually found in limestone and paddy soils and low densities in coastal saline soils and alluvial soils,indicating that high clay and silt contents in the soils could lead to an increase,and high sand content to a decrease in the accumulation of *** densities were sensitive to land use and usually increased in towns,woodland,paddy land,and shallow water areas,which were strongly affected by industrial and human activities,covered with highly productive vegetation,or subject to long-term use of organic fertilizers or flooding conditions.
