Macromineral requirements of Dorper×thin-tailed Han crossbred female lambs

A comparative slaughter trial was conducted to determine the net mineral requirements for maintenance and growth of Dorper crossbred female lambs raised from 20 to 35 kg of body weight（BW）.Thirty-five Dorper×thin-tailed Han crossbred female lambs of（20.3±1.14） kg BW were used： 7 lambs were randomly chosen and slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment as the baseline group for measuring the initial body composition; another 7 lambs were randomly chosen and offered a pelleted mixed diet ad libitum and slaughtered at（27.0±0.73） kg BW; the remaining 21 lambs were randomly divided into 3 groups of 7 animals each and subjected to the same diet either ad l ibitum or at 70 or 40% of ad libitum *** 21 lambs were fed in 7 slaughter groups, with each group consisting of one lamb from each treatment（ad libitum, 70 or 40% of ad libitum intake）.The 3 groups were slaughtered when the sheep fed ad libitum attained（33.8±0.52） kg of *** body composition of five minerals（Ca, P, Na, K, and Mg） was *** net mineral requirements for maintenance were 35.01, 25.18, 9.30, 31.35, and 2.03 mg kg–1 empty BW（EBW） for Ca, P, Na, K, and Mg, respectively, and the net growth requirement per kg of EBW gain ranged from 9.73 to 8.87 g of Ca, 5.83 to 5.27 g of P, 1.73 to 1.63 g of Na, 3.73 to 4.08 g of K, and 0.26 to 0.25 g of Mg for Dorper crossbred lambs in China, *** estimates of mineral requirements with Dorper crossbred lambs in the current study were not consistent with the recommendations from previous studies.

Global water security is a severe issue that threatens human health and well-being. Finding sustainable alternative water resources has become a matter of great urgency. For coastal urban areas, desalinated seawater could serve as a freshwater supply. However, since 20%-30% of the water supply is used for flushing waste from the city, seawater with simple treatment could also partly replace the use of freshwater. In this work, the freshwater saving potential and environmental impacts of the urban water system （water-wastewater closed loop） adopting seawater desalination, seawater for toilet flushing （SWTF）, or reclaimed water for toilet flushing （RWTF） are compared with those of a conventional freshwater system, through a life-cycle assessment and sensitivity analysis. The potential applications of these processes are also assessed. The results support the environmental sustainability of the SWTF approach, but its potential application depends on the coastal distance and effective population density of a city. Developed coastal cities with an effective population density exceeding 3000 ***-2 and located less than 30 km from the seashore （for the main pipe supplying seawater to the city） would benefit from applying SWTF, regardless of other impact parameters. By further applying the sulfate reduction, autotrophic denitrification, and nitrification integrated （SANI） process for wastewater treatment, the maximum distance from the seashore can be extended to 60 km. Considering that most modern urbanized cities fulfill these criteria, the next generation of water supply systems could consist of a freshwater supply coupled with a seawater supply for sustainable urban development.

AIM: To complete the data of ocular trauma in central China, as a well-known tertiary referral center for ocular trauma, we documented the epidemiological characteristics and visual outcomes of patients hospitalized for ocular trauma in this ***: A retrospective study of patients hospitalized for ocular trauma in central China from 2006 to 2011 was performed.· RESULTS: This study included 5964 eyes of 5799 patients. The average age was 35.5 ±21.8y with a male-to-female ratio of 2.8:1. The most common age was 45-59 y age group. Most patients were farmers and workers(51.9%). The most common injuries were firework related(24.5%), road traffic related(24.2%), and work related(15.0%). Among the most common causative agents were firecrackers(24.5%), followed by metal/knife/scissors(21.4%). Most injuries occurred in January(14.2%),February(27.0%), and August(10.0%). There were 8.5%patients with ocular injuries combined with other *** incidence of open ocular injuries(4585 eyes, 76.9%)was higher than closed ocular injuries(939 eyes, 15.7%).The incidences of chemical and thermal ocular injuries were 1.2% and 0.6%. Ocular trauma score(OTS)predicted final visual acuity at non light perception(NLP), 20/200-20/50 and 20/40 with a sensitivity of 100%,and light perception(LP) /hand motion(HM) and 1/200-19/200 with a specificity of 100%.· CONCLUSION: This study provides recent epidemiological data of patients hospitalized for ocular trauma in central China. Some factors influencing the visual outcome include time interval between injury and visit to the clinic, wound location, open or closed globe injury, initial visual acuity, and OTS.

This study semi-quantitatively analyzed the effects of *** with moderate or severe lacunar infarction were found to exhibit low scores on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale （F=12.02,P=0.000）,and prolonged P300 Cz2.0 latency （F=16.04,P=0.000）.Correlation analysis revealed that the occurrence of leukoaraiosis was negatively correlated with Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores （r=-0.416,P=0.000）,and positively correlated with P300 Cz2.0 latency （r=0.538,P=0.000）.These findings indicate that leukoaraiosis aggravates cognitive impairment in patients with lacunar infarction,such that more severe leukoaraiosis is associated with more severe cognitive decline.

Stylet penetration behaviors of Bemisia tabaci biotype B on two transgenic cotton lines ＂GK12＂ and ＂GK19＂ expressing Bt toxic protein CrylA （Bt cotton） and a non-Bt conventional cotton line ＂Simian-3＂（CK cotton） were recorded with the direct current electrical penetration graph （DC-EPG） technique. Our results suggested that EPG waveform patterns, types and characteristics [non-probe （NP）, pathway （C）, potential drops （pd） and phloem phase （E（pd））] ofBemisia tabaci biotype B were very similar on the three cotton lines. There were no obvious differences of pathway variables among whiteflies on the three cotton lines. Some phloem variables related to E（pd）l differed. Duration of 1st E（pd）l and mean duration of E（pd）l on both GK12 and GK19 were significantly shorter than that on CK cotton （P 〈 0.05）. Fewer whiteflies on GK have long E（pd）l. Other phloem variables including total duration of E（pd） summed, mean E（pd） duration and percentage of whiteflies reaching the phloem phase were similar among the three cotton lines.

Monognnic diabetes is often misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes due to overlapping characteristics. This study aimed to discover novel causative mutations of monogenic diabetes in patients with clinically diagnosed type 2 diabetes and to explore potential molecular mechanisms. Whole-exome sequencing was performed on 31 individuals clinically diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. One novel heterozygnus mutation （p^la2Thr） in INS was identified. It was further gnnotyped in an additional case-control population （6523 cases and 4635 controls）, and this variant was observed in 0.09% of cases. IntraceUular trafficking of insulin proteins was assessed in INSl-E and HEK293T cells, ***2Thr preproinsuUn-GFP was markedly retained in the endoplasmic reticulum （ER） in INS1-E cells. Activation of the PERK-elF2a-ATF4, IREla-XBP1, and ATF6 pathways as well as upregulated ER chaperones were detected in INS1-E cells transfected with the ***2Thr mutant. In conclusion, we identified a causative mutation in IN5 respon- sible for maturity-onset diabetes of the young 10 （MODYIO） in a Chinese population and demonstrated that this mutation affected 13 cell function by inducing ER stress.

Background:The adjustment of sex ratios in birds can occur at the egg and nestling stages. Previous studies showed that the sex ratio was affected by environmental factors and parental condition; it may result in seasonal and ecosystem ***:In this study, the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia(Prinia flaviventris) in the Nonggang area, Guangxi, southwestern China, was investigated during the breeding season from May to June in 2013 using PCR amplification from whole-genome DNA extracted from blood samples. A total of 31 nests of Yellow-bellied Prinia, including 132 brood fledglings and 31 pairs, were ***:The results showed that the brood sex ratio of the Yellow-bellied Prinia was 1:1, and sex ratios of different nests were evenly distributed within the study area. No significant relationship was found between parental quality and nest characteristics with the brood sex ***:The present study indicated that no brood sex ratio bias in the Yellow-bellied Prinia highlighted the complexity of sex ratio adjustment in birds. In spite of our negative results, the lack of an association between brood sex ratio and parental quality and environmental factors in the Yellow-bellied Prinia provides valuable information on the adjustment of sex ratios in birds.

We sought to assess the effect of progestin on the apoptosis of epithelial ovarian cancer cell line SKOV-3 and via regulation of phosphorylation signaling in. Epithelial ovarian cancer cell line SKOV-3 was treated with me- droxyprogestogen, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor LY294002 and vehicle control. Akt, phospho-Akt, Bcl-2 and phospho-Bad proteins were examined by immunoblotting assays. Medroxyprogestogen-induced apoptosis was assessed by MTT assays and Annexin V apoptosis assay. We found no significant difference in Akt and Bad expression in both the medroxyprogestogen groups and the control group. The levels of phospho-Akt, Bcl-2 and phospho-Bad were decreased in all the medroxyprogestogen groups and significantly decreased in the high dose mitogen-activated protein （MAP） group （10 gmol/L）. Viability of SKOV-3 was reduced and apparent apoptosis of SKOV-3 cells was observed with increased doses of MAP. The findings suggest that medroxyprogestogen can induce SKOV-3 cell apoptosis by inhibiting Akt phosphorylation.
