Drinking water is supplied through a centralized water supply system and may not be accessed by communities in rural areas of *** study investigated the performance of a low-cost, self-prepared combined activated carbon and sand filtration(CACSF) system for roofharvested rainwater and lake water for potable use. Activated carbon was self-prepared using locally sourced coconut shell and was activated using commonly available salt rather than a high-tech procedure that requires a chemical reagent. The filtration chamber was comprised of local,readily available sand. The experiments were conducted with varying antecedent dry intervals(ADIs) of up to 15 d and lake water with varying initial chemical oxygen demand(COD) concentration. The CACSF system managed to produce effluents complying with the drinking water standards for the parameters p H, dissolved oxygen(DO), biochemical oxygen demand(BOD5), COD, total suspended solids(TSS), and ammonia nitrogen(NH_3-N). The CACSF system successfully decreased the population of Escherichia coli(E. coli) in the influents to less than 30 CFU/m L. Samples with a higher population of E. coli(that is, greater than 30 CFU/m L) did not show 100% removal. The system also showed high potential as an alternative for treated drinking water for roof-harvested rainwater and class II lake water.

The current study modifies the representation of the Shields parameter using turbulent strength,*** root-mean-square(rms) fluid *** were done under a steady,uniform flow using eight sediment sizes with particle Reynolds numbers(Rep) ranging between 1.0(fine sediment) and 183.4(coarse sediment).Utilising the peak rms horizontal(u) values,the critical Shields parameter,θ,was calculated and a trend similar to the well-established Shields curve was *** analysis was extended to the Shields curve obtained based on the critical shear velocity,Reynolds shear stress,and data extracted fro m the oscillating grid-turbulence *** show that turbulent fluctuations are crucial for the incipient sediment motion and are essentially better predictors than the commonly used critical shear velocity.A quadrant analysis to identify the role of turbulent bursting events in incipient sediment motion also was done where sweeps and ejections are dominant for finer and coarser sediment sizes,respectively.

Concrete is a major material used in the construction of buildings and structures in the *** and sand are the major ingredients of concrete but are non-renewable natural ***,the utilisation of palm oil clinker(POC),a solid waste generated from palm oil industry is proposed to replace natural aggregate in this research to reduce the demand for natural *** mix of ordinary concrete as control concrete;while four mix proportions of oil palm clinker concrete were obtained by replacing 25%,50%,75%,and 100%of gravel and sand of control concrete with coarse and fine oil palm clinker respectively by volume,with same cement content and water cement *** strength test was carried out of concretes with different percentages of oil palm clinker;whereas water absorption tests according to respective standard,were carried out to determine the durability properties of various *** on the results obtained,the study on the effect of percentage of clinker on strength and durability properties was *** to ACI classification of light weight concrete only the 100 percentage replacement can achieve the definition of light weight concrete since its density is less than 1,900 kg/m3 and strength larger than 17 *** the 25%replacement of the normal aggregate by the OPC will improve the strength and durability of the concrete.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the vasorelaxant activities of 50 common traditional herbal prescriptions(THPs)on isolated rat aortic ***:An electric extractor was used to extract *** aortic rings were precontracted using phenylephrine in organ chambers containing Krebs-Henseleit *** of THPs were added in increasing concentrations(10-1000μg/mL)to investigate vasorelaxant *** vasorelaxant effects of THPs were calculated as percentage of contraction in response to ***:Several THPs such as Tianwangbuxin Dan,Banxiaxiexin Tang,and Mahuang Tang,significantly relaxed precontracted aortic *** contrast,Xiaochaihu Tang,Shensuyin,and Guizhifuling wan significantly contracted aortic ***,these THPs increasingly relaxed or contracted aortic rings relaxed by ***:Our findings suggest that hypertension can be treated using *** some THPs can counteract treatment of *** studies should be developed on use of THPs for treatment of hypertension are critical,and guidelines for use of traditional herbal medicines to treat hypertension.
