Residual Feed Intake as a Measure to Select Genetically Productive Beef Cattle: A Review

Measures such as residual feed intake(RFI)have been increasingly considered to select cattle with superior feed efficiency,as it is a characteristic of feed efficiency calculated as the difference between observed intake and estimated intake considering metabolic weight and the weight *** feed intake is obtained through the multiple regression equation of observed consumption on metabolic mean live weight and weight *** standard was shared among animals into one herd selected for low RFI(high efficiency)and compared to the one selected for high RFI(low efficiency).There was no correlated response in weight per year and in weight gain,and the effectiveness of low RFI selection in reducing feed costs was proven without affecting ***,selection of animals with negative RFI is not done by selecting animals directly according to the size of the viscera,rather it is done indirectly,that is,when selecting the most efficient animals and normally these animals already have the smallest viscera *** RFI is a trait that presents genetic variability,selectable to improve and has moderate heritability,between 0.30 and *** RFI is important because it reduces the direct economic impacts of reduced feed intake,as well as the effects of environmental impact on reducing methane emissions from enteric fermentation of ruminants.

The objective of this review was to address the stress effects on meat quality considering the main attributes that involve meat *** protein production has been increasing with global demand for meat with meat quality a major concern,especially for more demanding consumers who are looking for quality products to meet their *** quality of the meat is the result of what happened to the animal throughout the production chain,that is,good rearing conditions result in a better meat *** types of stress can be harmful to animals due to inadequate or improper animal handling on farms,inadequate transport conditions,poorly maintained trucks and roads,and conditions that agitate animals can lead to bruising,thermal *** stress in animals occurs when they are in adverse conditions and can significantly compromise meat quality *** an example,stress can significantly affect meat quality parameters as drip loss(DL),meat color,change ultimate pH and cause meat *** the main parameters of evaluation used for meat quality are color,characterized by luminosity(L^*,a^*,b^*),lipid and protein oxidation,pH,water holding capacity(WHC)and *** and processing high-quality meat is a challenge since it is necessary to apply methods that promote comfort in a complete sense,in a way that minimizes inducing significant *** on the results presented it is remarkable that stress alters the meat quality,compromising the main attributes that involve it,like color,pH,WHC,Warner-Bratzler shear force(WBSF),lipid oxidation,among others andis necessary to avoid or reduce stress caused during the production of the animals to ensure a high-quality meat,resulting in greater profitability for the producer.

Background: Pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA) is an unusual finding and its association with left main coronary (LMCA) compression is even more infrequent. Cardiac CT evaluates of presence and size of PAA and the degree of LMCA compression. The aim of this study is to describe two cases of adults with compression of LMCA with PAA associated with PDA and pulmonary hypertension. Case presentation: The first case is a 27-year-old man with PAA (78 mm diameter) and LMCA compression of 70% between the aortic sinus and the PAA. He presented angina as a manifestation of the LMCA compression. During follow-up the patient died. The second case is a 28-year-old man with PAA (110 mm diameter) that compresses LMCA in 55%, he rejected surgical treatment, but he is in close follow-up with medical treatment. Conclusion: Cardiac computed tomography played an important role both in the diagnosis and identification of high-risk PAA patients.

The fishing and ostreiculture activities practiced in the coast of the Eastern Amazon in the state of Pará,Brazil,became important to be inserted in rural ***,this literature review aimed to realize a brief theoretical discussion about the important aspects of rural education in promoting the development of fishing and *** the accomplishment of the literary research it was sought to explain the definition in education;rural education and valorization of the rural environment;environmental education as a transversal theme;fishing and aquaculture as a teaching strategy;considerations of fishing and ostreiculture;challenges and perspectives of the teaching of fishing and aquaculture in education;and booklet as a pedagogical tool in *** conclusion,the use of fishing and ostreiculture as a strategy for rural schools through environmental education is important to foster fishing activity in communities,as well as the sustainable use of natural resources.

On the north coast of present-day Peru, between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean, prospered approximately between 1000 BC and 1375 AD, several relevant cultures: Chavín (1000-200 BC), Vicús and Frías (200 BC - 300 AD), Moche (400 BC-700 AD), Sicán (700-1375 AD). These cultures are interconnected and characterized by a high metallurgical ability, demonstrated by the presence of beautiful artifacts on gold, silver and copper alloys. More than hundred metal artefacts from these cultures were analyzed with a portable equipment which uses the non-destructive and non-invasive technique of energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). Following objects were analyzed: (1) gold, silver and copper objects from the Chavín culture (Museo Municipal of Piura and and Museo Enrico Poli in lima); (2) gold and silver objects from the Vicús and Frías cultures (Museo Municipal of Piura); (3) gold, silver and copper objects from the Moche culture ("Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipán", "Museo de Sitio de Huaca Rajada" in Lambayeque and Museo Enrico Poli in lima); (4) gold, silver and copper objects from the Sicán culture (Museum of Sicán, Ferra?afe). Portable equipments were employed, mainly composed of a small size X-ray tube and a thermoelectrically cooled, small size, Si-PIN or Si-drift X-ray detectors. The main characteristics of the EDXRF-technique is of being non destructive and multi-elemental. Standard samples of gold and silver alloys were employed for calibration and quantitative analysis. The aims of this campaign of analysis were: (1) to analyze a large number of objects; (2) to differentiate gold, gilded copper and tumbaga (this last being a poor gold alloy enriched at the surface by depletion gilding); (3) to correlate, when possible, composition of analyzed alloys to the specific culture; (4) to determine a possible evolution of metallurgy; (5) to better determine characteristics and beginning time of tumbaga production. Punica granatum *** known antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory *** of different parts of this plant have been commonly used in the folk medicine to prevent and treat infections;and studies have supported the use of *** extracts for this ***,little is known of the effects of ***-derived fractions in severe infectious diseases such as ***,we investigated the actions of the hexane fraction(HF),rich in lipophilic compounds,obtained from the leaves of this plant,in a murine model of polymicrobial *** pre-treatment with HF increased mortality in septic *** same animals presented with lower levels of interleukin-6,nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide in their peritoneal lavage samples than vehicle *** also increased polymorphonuclear cell accumulation in to the peritoneum of mice with ***-derived nitric oxide upon lipopolysaccharide stimuli was markedly reduced by incubation with ***,triterpenes,phytosterols,vitamin E and ascorbyl palmitate were detected in the *** results indicate that *** leaf lipophilic fractions may worsen sepsis *** effect may be associated with its bioactive compounds which act synergistically or not,increasing sepsis mortality in vivo.

Studies about the parasite fauna of marine fish highlights as an important problem for public health with zoonotic parasites or affecting the fish ***,this study evaluated the parasite fauna of Lutjanus synagris commercialized in the fish market from Braganç*** laboratory,58 fish were measured,weighted and conducted to parasitological analysis to determine parasitological indexes and relative *** parasite was fixed and identified until to the lowest taxonomic *** the parasitological analysis,it found Cymothoidae,Digenea,Cucullanus *** Procamallanus(Spirocamallanus)sp.,with total prevalence 67.24%.Digenea showed the highest prevalence and mean intensity *** nematode,Cucullanus *** the greater prevalence and relative dominance,while Procamallanus(Spirocamallanus)*** the greater mean intensity and *** showed the lowest prevalence and mean intensity *** conclusion,the parasite fauna of *** has been noted with low diversity,reporting the nematode occurrence Procamallanus(Spirocamallanus).

The cryptic lifestyle of most fungi necessitates molecular identification of the guild in environmental *** the past decades,rapid development and affordability of molecular tools have tremendously improved insights of the fungal diversity in all ecosystems and ***,in spite of the progress of molecular methods,knowledge about functional properties of the fungal taxa is vague and interpretation of environmental studies in an ecologically meaningful manner remains *** order to facilitate functional assignments and ecological interpretation of environmental studies we introduce a user friendly traits and character database FungalTraits operating at genus and species hypothesis *** the information from previous efforts such as FUNGuild and FunFun together with involvement of expert knowledge,we reannotated 10,210 and 151 fungal and Stramenopila genera,*** resulted in a stand-alone spreadsheet dataset covering 17 lifestyle related traits of fungal and Stramenopila genera,designed for rapid functional assignments of environmental *** order to assign the trait states to fungal species hypotheses,the scientific community of experts manually categorised and assigned available trait information to 697,413 fungal ITS *** the basis of those sequences we were able to summarise trait and host information into 92,623 fungal species hypotheses at 1%dissimilarity threshold.
