Potential of the Integrated Control of Cucumber Root Rot Using Natural, Biological and Chemical Methods

Over the few last years, cucumber （Cucumis sativus L） root rot disease became common and inflicted marked losses to yield in Fayoum. Isolation trails from infected cucumber roots revealed that Thielaviopsis basicola and Fusarium moniliforme were the main cucumber root rot pathogens. The isolation trials from the rhizosphere of healthy cucumber plants revealed that two fungal isolates and four bacterial isolates had antagonistic effects against cucumber root rot fungi. All the tested biocontrol agents reduced the radial growth of all the tested root rots fungi in dual cultures. However, all culture filtrates of the tested biocontrol agent significantly reduced radial growth of all the tested pathogenic fungi, except that T. harzianum. Under field conditions, soil treatment with any of T. harzianum and B. subtilis BI and BF, significantly reduced percentages of infected plants and significantly increased percentages of survived plants and fruit yield compared with the control. Application of the commercial product Harpin protein （Messenger）~ product, as a resistance inducer at 0.3, 0.5 and l g/L significantly reduced the percentage of infected plants under greenhouse and field conditions. Field experiments indicated that the average percentage of infected plants after 90 days significantly decreased. The percentage of the survived plants as well as fruit yield increased by using integrated disease management （IDM） package, including the most effective treatments： tolerant cultivar, Trichoderma harzianum granules formula as soil treatment, Purging cassia plant extract, Harpin protein, and a half dose of Vitavax/thiram comparing with the treatment recommended by the Ministry of Agricultural or applied treatments individually.

2-（Hydrazinecarbothioyl）-N-substituted hydrazinecarbothioamides react with 2,3,5,6-tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone in high yields in a novel fast and facile method to give 5-unsubstituted-1,3,4-thiadiazole-2-amine *** synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods and confirmed by using X-ray crystallography.A rationale for the formation of the products is presented.

Treatment success of transobturator tape compared with tension free vaginal tape for stress urinary incontinence at 24 months: A randomized controlled trial

Objective: To compare the long term efficacy of transobturator Tape (TOT) with tension free vaginal tape (TVT) at 24 months postoperatively. Patients & Methods: 160 women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) were randomly allocated to either TVT or TOT procedures and reviewed at 24 months after surgery. The primary outcomes were objective cure (a negative cough stress test, and a negative 1-hour pad test), and subjective cure (defined as “very much better” or “much better” improvement in the Patient Global Impression of Improvement scale). The secondary outcomes included incontinence related quality of life (using Urogenital Distress Inventory Questionnaire, and Incontinence Impact Questionnaire), and complications. Results: No statistical difference was reported in objective and subjective cure rates between both groups. Objective cure rate was 85.6% and 81.6% in the TOT and TVT groups respectively (P = 0.55). Subjective cure rate in the TOT and TVT groups were 87% and 83% respectively (P = 0.68). There were no significant differences in postoperative complications and incontinence related quality of life. However, the operating time was significantly shorter in the TOT group compared with the TVT group (22.6 ± 3.9, 27.1 ± 3;respectively, P < 0.001). Conclusion: TOT and TVT procedures were equally efficient and safe for treatment of SUI, with maintenance of high objective and subjective cure rates for 24 months. Longer follow-up is needed to confirm these results.

Bach-Einstein Gravitational Field Equations as a Perturbation of Einstein Gravitational Field Equations

The Bach equations are a version of higher-order gravitational field equations, exactly they are of fourth-order. In 4-dimensions the Bach-Einstein gravitational field equations are treated here as a perturbation of Einstein’s gravity. An approximate inversion formula is derived which admits a comparison of the two field theories. An application to these theories is given where the gravitational Lagrangian is expressed linearly in terms of R, R2, |Ric|2, where the Ricci tensor Ric = Rαβdxαdxβ is inserted in some formulas which are of geometrical or physical importance, such as;Raychaudhuri equation and Tolman’s formula.

Utility of 2-Methyl-quinazolin-4(3H)-one in the Synthesis of Heterocyclic Compounds with Anticancer Activity

Quinolino[2,1-b]quinazolines 3 and 4, pyrrolo[2,1-b]quinazoline 5 and various substituted 2-(4-chlorostyryl)quinazoline derivatives including: 4-amino derivative 8, 4-hydrazino derivative 9, thiourea derivative 10, thiosemicarbazide derivative 19, 4-benzylidene hydrazinyl derivative 21, 4-amino thiazolidene derivatives 11, 12, 13, 22, imidazoquinazolines 15, 16, quinazolinium chloride 14, triazino[4,3-c]quinazolines 17, 18, tetrazino[1,6-c]quinazoline 20, 4-amino azetidinyl derivative 23, triazolo[4,3-c]quinazoline 24, 4-amino substituted quinazolines 25, 26, 27, 29 and quinazolino quinazoline 28 were synthesized through different chemical reactions. The obtained compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antitumor activity against HEPG2 and MCF-7 cell lines compared to the reference drug (doxorubicin). Compounds 18, 19, 20, 23 and 24 were found to be the most active against both cell lines exhibiting IC50 values ranging from 10.82 - 29.46 μM/L and 7.09 - 31.85 μM/L against Hep-G2 and MCF-7 cell lines, respectively, in addition to docking study of these five compounds against thymidylate synthase and dihydrofolate reductase enzymes active sites.

Trends and outcomes of pancreaticoduodenectomy for periampullary tumors: A 25-year single-center study of 1000 consecutive cases

AIM To evaluate the evolution, trends in surgical approaches a n d r e c o n s t r u c t i o n t e c h n i q u e s, a n d i m p o r t a n t lessons learned from performing 1000 consecutive pancreaticoduodenectomies(PDs) for periampullary *** This is a retrospective review of the data of all patients who underwent PD for periampullary tumor during the period from January 1993 to April 2017. The data were categorized into three periods, including early period(1993-2002), middle period(2003-2012), and late period(2013-2017).RESULTS The frequency showed PD was increasingly performed after the year 2000. With time, elderly, cirrhotic and obese patients, as well as patients with uncinate process carcinoma and borderline tumor were increasingly selected for PD. The median operative time and postoperative hospital stay decreased significantly over the periods. Hospital mortality declined significantly, from 6.6% to 3.1%. Postoperative complications significantly decreased, from 40% to 27.9%. There was significant decrease in postoperative pancreatic fistula in the second 10 years, from 15% to 12.7%. There was a significant improvement in median survival and overall survival among the *** Surgical results of PD significantly improved, with mortality rate nearly reaching 3%. Pancreatic reconstruction following PD is still debatable. The survival rate was also improved but the rate of recurrence is still high, at 36.9%.
