Osteoid Osteoma of the Second Metatarsal: An Exceptional Localization and Unusual Clinical Features

Osteoid osteoma of the foot can be difficult to diagnose, the clinical presentation may be mimicking other local pathologies leading to a considerable delay in diagnosis. We report an exceptional localization of osteoid osteoma in the second metatarsal in a 30-year-old patient, expressed for 3 years by metatarsalgia, with no clinical and radiological architecture defect of the foot. After discovering the nidus, the patient underwent surgical excision with an excellent outcome.

In hybrid wireless sensor networks composed of both static and mobile sensor nodes, the random deployment of stationary nodes may cause coverage holes in the sensing field. Hence, mobile sensor nodes are added after the initial deployment to overcome the coverage holes problem. To achieve optimal coverage, an efficient algorithm should be employed to find the best positions of the additional mobile nodes. This paper presents a genetic algorithm that searches for an optimal or near optimal solution to the coverage holes problem. The proposed algorithm determines the minimum number and the best locations of the mobile nodes that need to be added after the initial deployment of the stationary nodes. The performance of the genetic algorithm was evaluated using several metrics, and the simulation results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can optimize the network coverage in terms of the overall coverage ratio and the number of additional mobile nodes.

A Comparative Study between Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrecomy and Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass in Management of Morbid Obesity

There are several surgical techniques for management of obesity, the most commonly used management strategies were;laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrecomy, both techniques have advantages and drawbacks. But there are few published studies which clarified such issue and compare between both management strategies. We aimed in the present study to compare laparoscopic sleeve gastrecomy and laparoscopic gastric bypass as management surgical strategies of morbid obesity regarding technical success, degree of weight loss, degree of weight loss maintenance, postoperative and long term morbidities and degree of presence or absence of nutritional deficiencies. Patients and Methods: This is a prospective study which included a cohort of 100 patients with morbid obesity 50 of them underwent Laparoscopic gastric bypass and performed 50 underwent Laparoscopic sleeve gastrecomy with a five-year follow-up. Results: We showed that weight loss was higher in the laparoscopic sleeve gastrecomy group initially (p = 0.002), then after 2 years total weight loss was higher in the laparoscopic assisted gastric bypass group (p = 0.004). Diabetes, dyslipidemia and hypertension resolution was more common after laparoscopic assisted gastric bypass than after laparoscopic assisted sleeve gastrecomy. Occurrence of nutritional deficiencies was less commonly happened after laparoscopic assisted gastric bypass than after laparoscopic assisted sleeve gastrecomy. Conclusions: We showed a similar rate of weight reduction and resolution of nutritional deficits initially in both between laparoscopic assisted sleeve gastrecomy and laparoscopic gastric bypass maintenance of weight reduction was found more in laparoscopic assisted sleeve gastrecomy but rates of nutritional deficits were higher in such procedure.

Additive manufacturing(AM)technologies such as fused deposition modeling(FDM)rely on the quality of manufactured products and the process ***,the dimensional accuracy and stability of any AM process is essential for ensuring that customer specifications are satisfied at the highest standard,and variations are controlled without significantly affecting the functioning of processes,machines,and product *** study aims to investigate the effects of FDM fabrication conditions on the dimensional accuracy of cylindrical *** this study,a new class of experimental design techniques for integrated second-order definitive screening design(DSD)and an artificial neural network(ANN)are proposed for designing experiments to evaluate and predict the effects of six important operating *** determining the optimum fabrication conditions to obtain better dimensional accuracies for cylindrical parts,the time consumption and number of complex experiments are reduced considerably in this *** optimum fabrication conditions generated through a second-order DSD are verified with experimental *** results indicate that the slice thickness,part print direction,and number of perimeters significantly affect the percentage of length difference,whereas the percentage of diameter difference is significantly affected by the raster-to-raster air gap,bead width,number of perimeters,and part print ***,the results demonstrate that a second-order DSD integrated with an ANN is a more attractive and promising methodology for AM applications.

Characterization of Household Solid Waste and Management in Tripoli City—Libya

Waste stream characteristics must be understood to tackle waste management problem in Tripoli city, Libya. It is recognized that information on both quantity and composition of generation waste is important for the effective planning of household waste handling infrastructure. So, this study is aimed to evaluating the generation, composition and density of household solid waste in Tripoli city, Libya. The study is carried out according to the Annex 2.1 of: WHO 1996. It was conducted during one week in summer, autumn and winter 2011/2012. The daily household solid waste generation assessment has been carried out for 150 Libyan families where 947 people in three main parts of Tripoli city have been chosen randomly. A questionnaire was prepared according to Buenrostro et al. 2001 and Raje et al. 2001 using door-to-door surveying. The result showed that the average of total generation quantity, daily generation rate, total volume and density were 1415 kg, 0.64 kg/person/day, 19.3 m3 and 74.4 kg/m3 respectively in Tripoli city. Household solid waste contains 36.3% organic matter and 32.5% recyclable materials (glass, paper, plastic, metals). The total generation quantity, daily generation rate, total volume and density were in Tripoli city agreed with those for African and Arabic countries. But the problem is that Tripoli suffers from insufficient municipal solid waste management and lack of sanitary landfills.
