The Golden Jackal (Canis aureus Linnaeus, 1758), which belongs to the Canidae f.mily, is an opportunist carnivore in the Gaza Strip (365 square kilometers). The current study aims at giving notes on the occurrence and some ecological aspects of.the species in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. The study, which lasted 14 years (2007-2020), is descriptive and cumulative in its style. It was based on f.equent f.eld visits, direct observations and meetings and discussions with wildlif. hunters, f.rmers and other stakeholders. The f.ndings of.the study show that Gazans are f.miliar with the Golden Jackal to the extent that a Gazan f.mily holds the Arabic name of.the animal, which is “Wawi”. The Golden Jackal was sometimes encountered and hunted in the eastern parts of.the Gaza Strip, which are characterized by the presence of.wilderness areas, intensive agriculture, poultry pens and solid waste landf.lls. Like other a f.w mammalian f.unas, the adult Golden Jackals enter the Gaza Strip through gaps in or burrows beneath the metal borders separating the Gaza Strip f.om the rest of.the Palestinian Territories and Egypt. Gaza zoos were f.und to harbor tens of.Golden Jackals trapped or hunted by clever wildlif. hunters using dif.erent means such as wire cages known locally as “maltash” and f.othold traps with metal jaws that may cause lesions to the trapped animals. Poisoning and shooting were also common methods used to control the jackals and other carnivores causing harm to agriculture and livestock. The animal was known among the Gazans as an omnivore, f.eding on wild and domestic animals in addition to plant materials, garbage and carrions. In conclusion, the study recommends the need to raise ecological awareness to preserve the Golden jackal and to adopt saf. control measures f.r jackals and other carnivores, including the construction of.protective f.nces f.r agricultural f.elds and animal pens.

Bird f.una checklists are important tools in ecology, biology, and conservation planning f.r scientists, stakeholders, and decision-makers. Despite its small area, the Gaza Strip (365 km2) has a relatively large variety of.resident and migratory bird f.una. Theref.re, the current study aimed to provide an updated checklist of.all bird f.una living in or inhabiting the Gaza Strip. Direct f.eld observations using binoculars, continuous visits to zoos, pet stores and biology museums, discussion with bird hunters, f.llow-up of.news and social networking sites, review of.scientif.c publications and photography were the main tools to satisf. the purpose of.the study. At least 250 bird species collected f.om dif.erent sources occur in the Gaza Strip and are included in the checklist. This list will not be static, but is inevitably subject to additions and changes in the f.ce of.times. The current 250 bird species of.the Gaza Strip represent 45.4% of.the 551 species of.birds living in Palestine. The bird species were f.und to belong to 21 orders and 61 f.milies. The Passerif.rmes (passerines) represented the largest order with 96 species of.birds (38.4%), f.llowed by the Charadriif.rmes 54 (21.6%), the Accipitrif.rmes 18 (7.2%), Anserif.rmes 17 (6.8%) and Pelecanif.rmes 14 (5.6%), while the other orders represented the remaining percentage (20.4%). With regard to f.milies, the Scolopacidae represented the largest f.mily with 22 species of.birds (8.8%), f.llowed by the Anatidae and Accipitridae 17 f.r each (6.8%), the Muscicapidae 16 (6.4%) and Chariidridae and f.ingillidae 11 f.r each (4.4%), while the other f.milies represented the remaining percentage (62.4%). According to the IUCN regional threat categories, 226 species (90.4%) were Least Concern (LC), 12 (4.8%) were Near Threatened (NT), 6 (2.4%) were Vulnerable (VU), 4 (1.6%) were Endangered (EN) and 2 (0.8%) were Critically Endangered (CR). Classif.cation of.edge-on galaxies is important to astronomical studies due to our Milky Way galaxy being an edge-on ***-on galaxies pose a problem to classif.cation due to their less overall brightness levels and smaller numbers of.*** the current work,a novel technique f.r the classif.cation of.edge-on galaxies has been *** technique is based on the mathematical treatment of.galaxy brightness data f.om their images.A special treatment f.r galaxies’brightness data is developed to enhance f.int galaxies and eliminate adverse ef.ects of.high brightness backgrounds as well as adverse ef.ects of.background bright stars.A novel slimness weighting f.ctor is developed to classif. edge-on galaxies based on their *** technique has the capacity to be optimized f.r dif.erent catalogs with dif.erent brightness *** the current work,the developed technique is optimized f.r the Ef.GI catalog and is trained using a set of.1800 galaxies f.om this *** classif.cation of.the f.ll set of.4458 galaxies f.om the Ef.GI catalog,an accuracy of.97.5% has been achieved,with an average processing time of.about 0.26 seconds per galaxy on an average laptop.

Absolute Stability of.Nonlinear Systems with Two Additive Time-varying Delay Components

In this paper, we present a new suf.icient condition f.r absolute stability of.Lure system with two additive time-varying delay components. This criterion is expressed as a set of.linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）, which can be readily tested by using standard numerical sof.ware. We use this new criterion to stabilize a class of.nonlinear time-delay systems. Some numerical examples are given to illustrate the applicability of.the results using standard numerical sof.ware.

Electron Acceleration by Microwave Radiation Inside a Rectangular Waveguide

Electron dynamics in the f.elds associated with a transverse magnetic （TM） wave propagating inside a rectangular waveguide is analytically studied. The relativistic momentum and energy equations f.r an electron are solved, which was injected initially along the propagation direction of.the microwave. Expressions of.the acceleration gradient and def.ection angle are obtained. In principle, it is shown that the electron can be accelerated in this condition and there is no def.ection when the electron is injected f.om the centre of.the waveguide f.ont. However, it is f.und that the acceleration gradient and def.ection angle depend strongly on the parameters of.the microwave （intensity, f.equency, etc.） and the dimensions of.the waveguide.

Inf.rmation security is one of.the most important methods of.protecting the conf.dentiality and privacy of.internet *** greater the volume of.data,the more the need to increase the security methods f.r protecting data f.om *** task can be challenging f.r researchers in terms of.managing enormous data and maintaining their saf.ty and *** of.digital content is a major issue in maintaining the privacy and secrecy of.*** this end,digital watermarking is based on the concept of.inf.rmation security through the insertion and detection of.an embedded watermark in an ef.icient *** methodologies in the research on digital watermarking result in data distortion af.er embedding the *** scenario can reduce the ef.iciency of.detecting watermarks as well as violate data *** study adapts a robust reversible histogram shif.ing(HS)technique f.r textual data in relational ***,the study presents a digital watermarking scheme intended f.r document copyright protection and proof.of.*** major advantage of.the proposed watermarking scheme is that it can protect digital data and preserve data *** the best of.our knowledge,this research methodology is promising f.r use in the HS expansion model f.r watermarking data on nonnumeric *** addition,the results showed that despite exposing the database to an insertion attacks at 50%and 75%of.the watermark,the proposed algorithm can recovermore than half.of.the embedded watermark in all addition and alteration attacks *** a result,the watermark inf.rmation can be retained and restored completely.

Vertical load capacities of.roof.truss cross members

Trusses used f.r roof.support in coal mines are constructed of.two grouted bolts installed at opposing f.rty-f.ve degree angles into the roof.and a cross member that ties the angled bolts together. The load on the cross member is vertical, which is transverse to the longitudinal axis, and theref.re the cross member is loaded in the weakest direction. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine the vertical load capacity and def.ection of.three dif.erent types of.cross members. Single-point load tests, with the load applied in the center of.the specimen and double-point load tests, with a span of.2.4 m, were conducted. f.r the single-point load conf.guration, the yield of.the 25 mm solid bar cross member was nominally 98 kN of.vertical load, achieved at 42 cm of.def.ection. f.r cable cross members, yield was not achieved even af.er 45 cm of.def.ection. Peak vertical loads were about 89 kN f.r 17 mm cables and67 kN f.r the 15 mm cables. f.r the double-point load conf.gurations, the 25 mm solid bar cross members yielded at 150 kN of.vertical load and 25 cm of.def.ection. At 25 cm of.def.ection individual cable strands started breaking at 133 and 111 kN of.vertical load f.r the 17 and 15 mm cable cross members respectively.

Power swing and voltage collapse identif.cation schemes f.r correct distance relay operation in power system

The new techniques were presented f.r preventing undesirable distance relay maloperation during voltage collapse and power swings in transmission grids. Initially, the work f.cused on the development of.a f.st detection of.voltage collapse and a three-phase f.ult at transmission lines by using under impedance f.ult detector (UIf.) and support vector machine (SVM). Likewise, an intelligent approach was developed to discriminate a f.ult, stable swing and unstable swing, f.r correct distance relay operation by using the S-transf.rm and the probabilistic neural network (PNN). To illustrate the ef.ectiveness of.the proposed techniques, simulations were carried out on the IEEE 39-bus test system using the PSS/E and MATLAB sof.ware.

Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))capture and sequestration through CO_(2)enhanced oil recovery(EOR)in oil reservoirs is one of.the approaches considered to reduce CO_(2)emission into the *** injection of.CO_(2)into a subsurf.ce geological f.rmation may lead to chemical reactions that may af.ect the f.rmation pore structure and *** this study,the ef.ect of.CO_(2)ebrineerock interaction on the rock petrophysical properties and mineral volume f.action was numerically investigated during CO_(2)injection into a chalk reservoir rock.A 3D numerical modeling and simulation were conducted using COMSOL®Multiphysics commercial sof.ware of.computational f.uid dynamics(Cf.)to simulate CO_(2)ebrine core f.ooding process in a chalk *** model was validated against a coreescale experimental data f.om *** dif.erential pressure data matched the literature experimental data closely and consistently indicating good agreement between *** ef.ect on the perf.rmance of.CO_(2)ebrineechalk sequestration was also evaluated in the present *** indicated that porosity was only slightly af.ected by temperature increase during CO_(2)injection in contrast to permeability that was substantially af.ected by ***,chemical reactions enhanced as temperature increased leading to signif.cant increase in ***,carbonated brine sequestration excelled at elevated temperature due to increased acidity which governs the sequestration *** developed model maybe considered as a reliable tool to optimize various operating parameters of.CO_(2)ebrine sequestration.

BACKGROUND:Liver transplantation currently represents the ultimate therapy f.r bleeding esophageal varices in patients with liver *** is the only therapy that cures both portal hypertension and the underlying liver *** outcome of.liver transplantation is thought to be correlated with several *** this study,the clinical outcome of.living-related liver transplantation(LRLT) was evaluated in patients with variceal bleeding,and the prognostic indicators of.short-term survival in these patients were identif.ed. METHODS:We reviewed retrospectively 121 patients with a history of.variceal bleeding who had received LRLT f.om 1998 to *** clinical outcomes were analyzed,and the risk f.ctors f.r short-term survival were def.ned. RESULTS:The 3-month survival rate of.patients with variceal bleeding was 83.4%,while that of.non-bleeders was 87%.Sepsis was the commonest cause of.death in both *** vein diameter and blood transf.sion were the only independent prognostic f.ctors f.r short-term survival among variceal bleeders. CONCLUSION:The outcome of.LRLT in recipients with variceal bleeding is based on the improvement of.portal hemodynamics,by minimizing intraoperative blood loss and subsequent blood transf.sion.
