Food safety is one of the major concerns in every country regardless of the economic and social development. The frequent occurrence of food scandals in the world has led the Chinese government to implement several strategies to fortify the food supply system to a high food safety standard. This relies heavily on laboratory testing services but conventional methods for detection of food contaminants and toxicants are limited by sophisticated sample preparation procedures, long analysis time, large instruments and professional personnel to meet the increasing demands. In this review, we have incorporated most of the current and potential rapid detection methods for many notorious food contaminants and toxicants including microbial agents, toxic ions, pesticides, veterinary drugs and preservatives, as well as detection of genetically modified food genes and adulterated edible oil. Development of rapid, accurate, easy-to-use and affordable testing methods could urge food handlers and the public to actively screen for food contaminants and toxicants instead of passively relying on monitoring by the government examination facility. This review also provides several recommendations including how to encourage the public to engage in the food safety management system and provide optimal education and financial assistance that may improve the current Chinese food safety control system.

To investigate the prevalence, correlates, attitude and treatment seeking behavior of erectile dysfunction （ED） in type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM） patients in the primary care setting, a multi-center cross-sectional survey using a structured anonymous self-administered questionnaire was performed in 10 general outpatient clinics. Of the 603 subjects （91% response rate）, the prevalence of ED men, as defined by the International Index of Erectile Function, was 79.1%. Most subjects had mild ED （28.9%）, followed by mild-to-moderate ED （27.9%）, then moderate ED （13.4%） and severe ED （9%）. Nearly 55% of those with ED did not consider themselves as having ED. Less than 10% of them had ever sought medical treatment, although 76.1% of them wished to receive management from doctor（s） should they be diagnosed with ED. They considered the most important management from doctors to be clinical assessment （41.7%）, followed by management of potential underlying cause （37.8%）, referral to specialist （27.5%）, education （23.9%）, prescription of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors （16.9%） and referral to ~：ounseling service （6.7%）. The prevalence of ED was strongly associated with subjects who thought they had ED （odds ratio （OR） = 90.49 （20.00-409.48, P 〈 0.001）） and were from the older age group （OR = 1.043 （1.011-1.076, P = 0.008））. In conclusion, ED is highly prevalent among T2DM men. The majority of them wanted management from doctors should they have ED, but only a minority would actually voice out the request. Screening of ED among T2DM men using structural questionnaire allowed the diagnosis of more than half of the ED cases, which otherwise would have gone undiagnosed.

omprehensive Summary,Polymetallaynes are a promising branch of metallopolymers,in which the introduction of metal building blocks to organic conjugated backbones leads to their unique skeletons and versatile ***,the chemical structures,geometric configurations and functional properties in these organometallic systems can be adjusted flexibly by the appropriate selection of metal centers,auxiliary ligands,or bridging *** recent years,both one-dimensional and two-dimensional polymetallaynes have attracted considerable attention owing to their excellent electronic,optical and magnetic ***,the studies on molecular metallaynes provide substantial insights for the exploration of the structure-property-activity relationships in these organometallic acetylide-containing *** recent research progress of polymeric and molecular metallaynes containing platinum,mercury and gold is discussed in this article.A series of functional properties have been realized in these acetylide-containing compounds by the rational structural design and refined synthetic strategies,leading to their emerging applications including energy conversion,nonlinear optics,data storage and memory,as well as chemo/biosensing.

Background: Programmed cell death protein 4(PDCD4) is a novel tumor suppressor protein involved in pro?grammed cell death. Its association with cancer progression has been observed in multiple tumor models, but evidence supporting its association with solid tumors in humans remains controversial. This study aimed to determine the clinical signiicance and prognostic value of PDCD4 in solid ***: A systematic literature review was performed to retrieve publications with available clinical informa?tion and survival data. The eligibility of the selected articles was based on the criteria of the Dutch Cochrane Centre proposed by the Meta?analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology group. Pooled odds ratios(ORs), hazard ratios(HRs), and 95% conidence intervals(CIs) for survival analysis were calculated. Publication bias was examined by Begg's and Egger's ***: Clinical data of 2227 cancer patients with solid tumors from 23 studies were evaluated. PDCD4 expression was signiicantly associated with the diferentiation status of head and neck cancer(OR 4.25, 95% CI 1.87–9.66) and digestive system cancer(OR 2.87, 95% CI 1.84–4.48). Down?regulation of PDCD4 was signiicantly associated with short overall survival of patients with head and neck(HR: 3.44, 95% CI 2.38–4.98), breast(HR: 1.86, 95% CI 1.36–2.54), digestive system(HR: 2.12, 95% CI 1.75–2.56), and urinary system cancers(HR: 3.16, 95% CI 1.06–9.41).Conclusions: The current evidence suggests that PDCD4 down?regulation is involved in the progression of several types of solid tumor and is a potential marker for solid tumor prognoses. Its clinical usefulness should be conirmed by large?scale prospective studies.

Objectives To assess the association of socioeconomic indicators with various chronic and acute illnesses and the utilization of public health care in a new town in hong Kong, China. Methods Illness experience and socioeconomic and demographic data of 7570 residents from 2022 randomly selected households were collected through telephone interviews. The relationships between socioeconomic indicators and illnesses/choice of health care were explored using stepwise logistic regressions after adjusting for sex and age. Results Significant positive associations were noted between low household income and diabetes mellitus, any chronic illnesses among adults and flu among younger subjects; low educational level and accident-related illness among adults; being born in Chinese mainland and flu, any acute illness in adults. Chronic hepatitis B(CHB)-related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a major health problem in AsianPacific *** therapy reduces,but does not eliminate the risk of *** would be a heavy financial burden in most low and middle economic countries if all CHB patients received antiviral therapy and HCC ***,there is a need for accurate risk prediction to assist prognostication,decisions on the need for antiviral therapy and HCC surveillance.A few wellestablished risk factors for HCC,namely advanced age,male gender,high viral load,cirrhosis etc.,are the core components of three HCC risk scores:CU-HCC,GAGHCC and REACH-B *** 3 scores were confirmed to be accurate in predicting HCC up to 10 years in treatment-na ve *** validity and applicability have recently been demonstrated in a large cohort of entecavir treatment patients.A decrease in risk scores after antiviral therapy translates to a lower risk of *** findings support the application of HCC risk scores in all CHB *** levels of care and different intensities of HCC surveillance should be offered according to the risk profile of *** at risk of HCC should undergo regular HCC surveillance,even when they are receiving antiviral treatment.

Although lanthanide double-decker complexes with hetero-macrocyclic ligands as functional luminescent and magnetic materials have promising properties,their inferior water solubility has negated their biomedical ***,four water-soluble homoleptic lanthanide(Ln=Gd,Er,Yb and La)sandwiches with diethylene-glycoldisubstituted porphyrins(DD)are reported,with their structures proven by both quantum chemical calculations and scanning tunneling *** findings demonstrate that the near-infrared emission intensity and singlet oxygen(1O2)quantum yields of YbDD and GdDD in aqueous media are higher than those of the reported capped lanthanide monoporphyrinato analogues,YbN and GdN;the brightness and luminescence lifetime in water of YbDD are greater than those of *** work provides a new dimension for the future design and development of molecular theranostics-based water-soluble double-decker lanthanide bisporphyrinates.
